Bigger Picture....

Does this mean they're choosing the slots now?   Or are they not yet at that point, but Fox is announcing they're using the first pick on M-Texas?  The latter would be wild as that would mean they're passing on The Game (hello frennnnsss....3:30 CBS kick).

Where are they in the selection process?

I'm already in camp 2 and…

I'm already in camp 2 and Jim's not even out the door.

"I Pooped On Ohio Today"

"I Pooped On Ohio Today"

I have to drive from PA to Ann Arbor for the home games I attend.  I carve some time out of each of those drives up to make sure I have a healthy bowel movement in Ohio.  Part of my pre-game ritual.

Just happened to be in Ohio for work on Monday - so made sure to poop on Ohio (twice, even!) for good luck.

So yeah - I'd wear that shirt at my tailgates proudly.

Pretty close to something…

Pretty close to something that the Simpsons did put out there "A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man" - the quote on Jebediah Springfield's statue lands awfully close to the Homer quote.

Another perspective on this…

Another perspective on this is how three year cumulative runs add up.  On that metric, this three year stretch is as good as any, save maybe the Yost squads, the middle Lloyd period, and early Bo periods.

With last night's win, M is 40-3 over the past three seasons.  Compare to:

  • 2002-2004: 29-9
  • 1997-1999: 32-5 (NC & Woodson Heisman)
  • 1989-1991: 29-7 (Howard Heisman)
  • 1976-1978: 30-6
  • 1972-1974: 30-2-1 (Ten Year War)
  • 1971-1973: 31-2-1 (Ten Year War)
  • 1903-1905: 33-1-1
  • 1902-1904: 32-0-1
  • 1901-1903: 33-0-1 (First Rose Bowl)

Nowehere else were we ever at (or next to) 30 wins across three years.  1947 and 1948 yielded 19 wins (no losses) but both '46 and '49 were 6-2-1 years.   1931-1933 were 23-1-2 - they just didn't play many games back then.

Anyway: https://stassen.com/cgi-bin/records/fetch-team.pl?team=Michigan if you want to play with the numbers.

Going to break the rules - I miss the downtown (Washington & 4th) location of Metzgers.  The food's still great, the family is still awesome, and the tchotchkes are all still there, but the Zeeb Rd. experience just doesn't hit the same as when it was downtown.  Still worth the trip out 94.

1) I have a Columbia Interchange coat (zip in/out fleece liner) from 1997 which I still wear to WET winter games.

B) It's not winter yet... a Maize hoody with appropriate / multiple base layers should work in October

iii) For the November game last year against the louts from the south, I wore a thermal T, a quarterzip and a maize fleece hoody on the outside.  Never a moment of discomfort.

Think outside of the coat.

Can't say for sure, but probably; He and Tripp Welborne (3) blocked so, so many XP and FG tries between 1987 and 1990

That said, he sprayed the front row as much as Holth could.  Impressive spittle.

To be fair - at the time,…

To be fair - at the time, most chalked it up to "luck of the Irish" running out and turning on them. I don't recall much (that week) about the defense other than they did a yeoman's job.

They were much more than yeomen as it turned out.

Same thing for me with the…

Same thing for me with the 97 team, but earlier in the season.  Vs. ND - 4th Q.  Three turnovers leaving ND with no more than 30 yards to go on each possession.

Stonewalled them.  Nothing - got the ball back.  It was then I knew this defense, and team, were different.  And I didn't worry again after that (except against Iowa - Jesus that was scary)

I don't hate it.  Throw in a tie-breaker that resists rematches, and I'm for it.

Alas, that would probably just create the same results as the current East West in terms of title game.  Does help regular season variety.

As a PSU Grad, lifelong M fan, and Season Ticket Holder at both schools - yes: this is the correct analysis.  FWIW, PSU (for all the "unrivaled" crap) would lose their shit if OSU wasn't protected.  As would / should we in the interest of competitive balance.

Personally, I'd protect PSU as our third, after OSU and MSU, but know it will wind up being Jug (and that's cool - I like that game).

was an interesting 365 day stretch.  Michigan Football played in the Rose Bowl (stadium) three times in that year.  1/2/89 vs USC in the Rose Bowl, September 89 vs UCLA, and 1/1/90 in the Rose Bowl.  Won the first two, lost the last (Bo's final coaching appearance).
