No, neither team typically races at the Schuykill. The women have a home race at Belleville yet, while the men are racing at the Hooch and have a couple of other races against the Wisco frosh and against OSU, both in town.

I'd still say its unusual for a CFB game to be pre-empted by NASCAR, particularly one involving Michigan.

I don't think former players should shut their mouths, but I don't understand why you'd think they are the only ones whose opinions about these issues matter. I live in flyover country, far away from Michigan, and still have had numerous people make comments to me about "what's going on at Michigan." These issues affect all of us who are connected to the university in some way, even if its somewhat less significant compared to the former players.

I guess I don't see why it matters whether or not he ended up truly having a concussion. I would think the issue would be more that in a situation where there is any doubt (i.e. during the game), you err on the side of caution.

Of the 20 players selected in the top 10 of the past two NBA Drafts, 18 were former top 75 prospects and/or players who spent at least three seasons in college. The only exceptions? Burke and Stauskas -- both of whom enrolled at Michigan as unheralded recruits, earned Big Ten Player of the Year honors as sophomores, turned pro and were selected in the top 10 of the subsequent NBA Draft.
Not that I don't want to believe, but looking at two years with relatively small pools, doesn't that really set off your fluke filter, Brian?

They got a great draw in their semi final (Stanford, Brown, Princeton, Notre Dame and Harvard), which was an easier way to advance compared to the other semi: OSU, Cal, Washington, Virginia, USC and Indiana. OSU is #1, Cal and Washington are both fast (probably faster than UM), and Virginia and Michigan are very close, though UM won by about 1.5 seconds. To get into the A final, Michigan they had to beat three of the teams in their semi.
It was very close between the top four crews, and going into the last 500m, Michigan was in fourth but came from behind and took Princeton by about .2 of second, and barely half a second separated Stanford, Brown, Michigan and Princeton. So they'll be racing in the A final tomorrow.
Looking at the results for the two A/B semis (one two), Ohio State looks to have a clear edge since they were almost seven seconds up on the fourth place crew in their heat, meaning they likely shut it down. Cal led the first 1500m of the race, and Washington was also pretty far up on the field and their splits also seem to suggest shutting it down, so their times are likely not indicative of their full speed. In Michigan's semi, with all of the three crews being pushed to make the final the whole way down the course, no one shut it down, so these crews are close.
My guess is Cal and Ohio State will be slugging it out for gold and silver, but it will likely be a very good race for bronze, assuming all of the crews in the second semi can get back up after fighting such a hard race to get into the final. Just being in the Grand Final is a great accomplishment, though. Should be a fun race to watch tomorrow.
edit to add, here's the finish line from the semi...wow:

That was the original plan a few years ago when they first started talking about it, and the men's team raised a substantial amount of money for it, but there's been some restructuring in RecSports that makes it unlikely that the men's team will be allowed to shared facilities as they have in the past.
|21 weeks 2 days ago||There is already an||
There is already an organized, "official" championship structure, though, in the IRA. Michigan raced as a club varsity team at the IRA (against fully funded varsity teams) until 2008 when the IRA voted to exclude club teams. This is probably the biggest reason why the team has been pushing for varsity status - the team is reasonably well-funded through team dues, alumni donations and university support - but without official varsity recognition from the school, they can't race at the sport's national championship.

Its difficult to do with rowing, because the team is so big - more than 70 athletes on the roster this spring, I think. There was a plan floated a few years ago to have a core varsity program of nine scholarship athletes from the V8, and to maintain the club program along side it, but after men's lacrosse went varsity, that obviously fell by the wayside.

Isn't that the point, though? Colter's argument isn't that they're not compensated, its that they are employees and that because of that they're entitled to the same protections that employees are, including the right to form a union? People focus on football because the case for its exploitive nature is the strongest, given that the athletes are not afforded the protections of employees while working in a multi-billion dollar enterprise.

Not really - it doesn't add anything to the presentation of the data, nor it does not add any context to the story you are trying to illustrate. Keep it simple. But I'm on my little visual presentation of quantitative information soapbox.
