I wasn't aware my humble e-pinion was literally "the justice system," nor did I make a judgment about Clark besides to point out how ludicrous this whole post is. When every other media outlet covering this story is full of SHE DESERVED IT comments, among other awful things, THIS is what Brian wants to run with? Suit yourselves.
Yea, because getting kicked off a football team is totally the same as being thrown in jail without a trial because everyone knows playing for Michigan is a constitutional right.
Is this a not-even-that-elaborate-scheme to find out just how much people will lap up whatever you put out?
If so, it's working, and if not, it's disgusting. In the case of a giant D1 defensive end carved of granite punching a woman in the face and chokeslamming her, boy howdy am I glad someone had the courage to stand up and say "hey, in the middle of all this, let's think about that poor 270 pound man." I'm really not seeing how this was worth a single electron in his defense no matter how over-the-top internet people were in villifying him.
Also, I'm not sure how your personal anecdote is suppose to show that "hey guys, anyone can beat their pregnant girlfriend of 2 years, it doesn't mean you're literally Satan!" when it just shows that maybe your "sympathy" is indicative of your own possible issues with anger (not judging, I've sought help for anger issues in the past so I know admitting isn't easy) and drawing some seriously false equivalences.
This is the icing on the shitcake and exhibit A in why so many longtime readers have been leaving, in case anyone was wondering.
If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go be angry (and calm myself down) elsewhere. Yet somehow I think I can manage the self-control to not savagely beat my defenseless pet hedgehog or my significant other because even at my most rage-filled worst I've never resorted to shit like that, and any excuses and sympathy are just weak.
I found out that MSU actually sells "recent alumni" season tickets. Reasonably priced for people who still want to sit near the student section. Brilliant, and I'm jealous.
I wonder why we can't do something like that. Trim off a section or so from the students (at this point I don't blame them for not showing up, but we should get rid of that empty spot) and charge slightly more to recent alumni, have it count toward regular season ticket points. But whatever. For the first time since I can remember, I don't think I'll be watching a single game in the stadium this season, and I live in Royal Oak. Consider how much M football makes me want to drink, I don't think I should be driving an hour each way just to be sobering up in an overpriced stadium seat rather than plunking down at a bar in walking distance.
Breast cancer is not even the most fatal cancer in women (that'd be lung cancer and digestive cancers), nor the biggest killer of women in general (that'd be heart disease) but apparently it's the sexiest. Where's the fun in informing women that their heart attack symptoms can be different from the well-known men's symptoms when we can say WEAR PINK AND SAVE TEH BEWBIES instead?
Also, in some good news, it appears that prostate cancer deaths were down to 29k in 2013:
You don't think that if the discipline was really that effective, maybe you wouldn't have needed it numerous times? Or that being subjecting to beatings at home had any influence on your fighting other kids? I got beat at home too, but I'd never call it discipline and my accomplishments are in spite of that, certainly not because of it. The only thing it did was leave me with more than my share of baggage to work through.
Also, I'm not the type of asshole to judge your situation, but plenty of people would say working through an associate's while raising a baby is not what they'd consider "turning out perfectly fine" for their kid.
That supports the argument that we need to do more in this country to properly prosecute domestic violence (yes, that includes child abuse) and cover healthy relationships and parenting in public school sex ed/health classes so that people who grew up thinking it was normal can wake the fuck up.
And clearly the only factor here is how much their parents hit them, as if you can just knock the psychosis out of someone and availability of weapons doesn't matter.
Also, in the good ol days, you'd just lobotomize your problem child and throw em in a home to rot. See, no more screwed up kids!
>Gets called out for incorrectly assuming everyone will still tune in
>Backtracks, now demands to see proof that a significant amount of people are not tuning in
As I mentioned, there are plenty of people who are tired of the NFL's shit, between Pittsburgh, Washington, Baltimore, Minnesota, and all the other shit not sitting well in the public eye. Will enough people tune out to make a dent? Who knows, but you are still wrong about "everyone will still watch."
That is known as the cycle of abuse. When you normalize violence to children who developementally cannot grasp why it is OK for mommy or daddy to hit them without assuming it's OK for them to hit others as well, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. Basic shit, and it in no way excuses the actions of the adults responsible who should know better.
Myself and plenty of other people are tired of the NFL's shit. I don't watch on Thursday, Sunday, or Monday. I'm also a Giants fan, so it's basically a win-win.
But I'm sure you're content to continue turning a blind eye and pretending no one cares.
Our high school football team was so awful that myself and another field hockey player were considering reprising our roles from 6th grade football. She's insanely strong and athletic (invited to try out for an Olympic team) and probably could've jumped right back in at RB considering our low level of competition in eastern LI, but I would've had a helluva time trying to reclaim my LG spot. Our field hockey coach didn't let us anyway. /coolstoryme
Flags are too patriarchal, that's what the burning bras are for.
Also you don't have to be a feminist (for all those people who oppose equality of the sexes?) to think that 'wifey' and 'hubby' are absolutely gag-inducingly twee.
So women are only cool if they like man things like watching football but women aren't allowed to like man things because they're for men who like boobs and the internet and feminism is ruining America. Got it.
I liked the version with slightly less rampant misogyny and slightly more evolved commenters, but hey, it's a football blog, and football is for dudes only and all dudes like boobs so why not have HOT CHIX and debates about their hawtness all over the place, right?
But if the wimminz and teh browns and teh gheys get equal treatment, that means they were taking it away from the manly white man's right to be a bigoted asshat and that is not fair!
Let's be real: This site has absolutely not welcomed women for a while, unless they came bearing T&A. Also, it's kind of sad that you should even have to appeal to some paternalistic protective nature to try to get the lowest common denominator to realize that maybe they should treat people like, ya know, people. Somehow in my 23 years I've managed to be attracted to women without making a damn ass of myself every time HAWT PICS surface on a football blog.
I, too, am concerned that somehow, someone has slipped past the MANDATORY SHEARING OF THE PUBIC HAIR which is enforced by college age guys. CAST OUT THE HIRSUTE FOR HER NONCOMPLIANCE AND MARK HER WITH THE SCARLET "H" OF SHAME.

if anyone ever wondered why I'm not around anymore... this fucking thread is a decent example

That sounds like a personal problem.
but if that's what you call 2 inches.... the jokes write themselves.
And once they process that one, maybe "toxic masculinity" is worth reviewing too
You wouldn't by chance be the same Stringer Bell throwing racist shit around on Twitter, would you?

Now extra ticked I have to be in Canada for work this Saturday.
Ratings are up != no one stopped watching. Even if I were literally the only person to stop watching the NFL, your first comment is still wrong.
But what should I expect from someone who believes there is merit in beating four-year-olds?

My boyfriend eats lemons AND limes, rind and all, like an apple, on a routine basis.
....he is refusing to let me videotape this though.
Also I really had to restrain myself from throwing in a link to the classic "Lemon Stealing Whore" film.
Never change.
