"The face of the operation is Briatore (referred to exclusively in the film by his colleagues and angry, chanting detractors as "Flavio"), an anthropomorphic radish who spends most of his time at QPR plotting to fire all of the managers."

He was putting a stake in the ground. It's a pretty common phrase. "To take the first step; to make a big move to get something started. " It's not even about MSU it's about challenging his teammates. I actually like the thought and challenge. Better if they back it up, clearly but this manufactured offense that Dantonio seems to be good at is old, stale and shows some ignorance.

As a parent whose 8 yr old is at Mott being treated for the identical tumor and secondary symptoms I'm glad I wasn't the only one uncomfortable with both the original story and Brian's list. The problem is that the kids story is incomparable. To say they (I say they because knowing how my daughter's recovery is progressing she couldn't come up with an idea like this on her own) hate Michigan on a level remotely close to the cancer is unbelievable to me. There is no metaphorical link that approaches how I feel about this disease. Not OSU, not MSU, not Osama Bin Laden. Nothing. Not even close. Had Brian left off the rest of the list it would have made more sense because this is in a world of its own and you either love/respect it or it makes you sort of queasy. Count me in the latter camp.
