If a CHL player doesn't play minor league hockey or make it to the NHL they can certainly attend university in Canada (excellent schools exist in the hinterland, btw and the last number of national champions in Canada pretty much loaded up with former CHL players). CHL has a scholarship program for this purpose (but also usable for community college, trade school, firefighting schoo/EMS etc.). You can play junior hockey in the NAHL, USHL or EJHL but these are not close to the level of major junior CHL in Canada (and a bit of the north US). Pretty interesting Gare Joyce article on changes in CHL culture over time (Joyce not known to be a CHL slappy, btw). https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/juniors/chl-better-ever-players/

1 week 3 days ago | Not surprised a bit. |
I follow London Knights hockey and they are an excellent organization with a lot of resources. They also play in a great arena that feels like a mini 9000 seat NHL rink and is professionally run. They pretty much sell out every game and have been regulars, largely, in the OHL playoffs for years and certainly over-represented in the Memorial Cup. If the young man is academically inclined there is an excellent university in London as well. It is what it is; the Hunter family in London has made the Knights into a problem for any team whose player they draft. |

I guess those Sparty brahs on the internet were right. They can brag about how they outdrew Michigan at their spring game. Props to them. |

Is there an /s involved here? Maybe you were being /s and it went over my head. If so, moving along. |
1 week 5 days ago | Blashill... |
A few years back the general tone here was that Babcock didn't matter, that Blashill would be better with the young players etc. So now they resign Blashill and extend Holland. Yzerman is never coming back, either. Man, times change. |

Racist, obstructionist cheaters oppose legitimate transfer to great school by talented quarterback. Guess they really want that refund. |

Based on the number of responses this thread alone will exceed the Sparty spring game attendance |

1 week 5 days ago | MSU gonna get got |
The WWL will pursue MSU to the end of time after all the FOIA and Engler publicly criticizing their credibility and giving the the fake news treatment. This is the beginning not the end. |
1 week 5 days ago | @corundum |
Reporting sexual assault in East Lansing hasn't exactly worked out for a great many at MSU. A culture of Lothario seducers and litterers, it seems. |
1 week 6 days ago | Well... |
...you cannot deny the impacts of stretching though. Sad. |
2 weeks 1 day ago | Don't see it so much a sides |
Sparty keeps doing wrong things, wrongly covering them up and wrongly blaming victims, their advocates and anyone including the WWL who shines a light on that. I find it ironic, pathetic and sad that Sparty parses ESPN on content accuracy but gives their administration a pass on document destruction and obfuscation. |
2 weeks 1 day ago | Heh. |
World Wide Leader with the middle finger to Sparty in this paragraph... On Wednesday, Outside the Lines asked Guerrant whether Engler had any comment about whether he believes Washington is still owed an apology and whether he had anything to say regarding the alleged victim. Guerrant said Thursday that she had not had a chance to speak with Engler. |
2 weeks 4 days ago | Hmmmmmm... |
If I was the parent of the victim I'd be relatively pissed off. Is this the end of it and these idiots are going to be on the next season of Last Chance U or are they staring down some sort of civil action etc.?
|
2 weeks 6 days ago | Yep. |
|
2 weeks 6 days ago | Big if... |
Just wait for the civil litigations to start leaking. I don't expect the Denhollander family to sit idly and quiet nor many of the other gymnastics victims. How long before civil suits arise from either the Title IX content, Corley/Vance, this current situation? Death from 1000 cuts for MSU. HBO series in 2022. Deservedly. |
2 weeks 6 days ago | "they knew this wasn't going away" |
IDK. I expect everyone at MSU thought it would just go away just as, historically, everything else had just gone away under Hollis/LSA and the BoT watch. Nerd Rage beatings? Glenn Winston? Appling/Payne? LJ Scott drinking and driving (but only like 7 times) Demetrius Cooper interacting with parking officials Chris Rucker The list goes on and on... It used to go away. Then they pissed on ESPN. Pride/Fall, something, something.... |

I work for a university. None of this stuff would be hard to access. I find "another set of withheld records pertaining to his employment" pretty interesting. MSU's fight/deny everything policy against ESPN, who has all the time, money and lawyers in the world for this stuff is mind boggling (bottling in blog parlance). |

He's taken a lot of bullets though. He's here to support the survivors. |
2 weeks 6 days ago | Here's the thing... |
MSU gave the middle finger to ESPN and publicly questioned their credibility by essentially giving them the "fake news" credibility and empowering their fanbase to put voice to the same. Twitter is a gong show in this regard. Naturally, ESPN, who has waged a years long information war with MSU is going to be a) pissed off about that and b) pissed off about having their credibility challenged. The World Wide Leader has plenty of resources and all the time in the world, it would seem, to put out monthly reports on all things MSU or bi-monthly or more often as the news cycle allows. The fallout of Nassar is just beginning. These lies exposed. ESPN probably has more. You're right...as more comes out the protections that Izzo once had a MSU diminish. The loss of Hollis probably hurts both he and Dantonio in that way as well. |
3 weeks 16 hours ago | Michigan All F'n Day |
This isn't 90s Tarkanian UNLV...this is the same team that was handled by St. John's, Creighton and Butler. They are hardly unbeatable. They have not faced a defense like Michigan. Bad Boys style defensive lockdown win with Jay Wright apoplectic and their shooters frustrated. |
3 weeks 1 day ago | Hmmm... |
North Philly is certainly a unique learning environment. Temple is a great school; its environment prepared me for many things and the culture of the place was amazing. |
3 weeks 2 days ago | Villanova... |
As a Temple alum I cannot stand Villanova, their beautiful Main Line suburban campus or their greasy and debateably ethical coach Jay Wright. I mostly dislike Villanova and their 46-42 lead in the Big 5 rivalry in Philly.

Agreed. This sounds way too Sparty "football was invented in 2008" from the OP... |
4 weeks 15 hours ago | #obviously |
I don't really get the whole diminishing of that earlier era is the issue. Of course, I think everyone is looking forward to the Final 4. |
4 weeks 15 hours ago | This is revisionist and apologist bs. |
Glad the team won tonight and everyone si happy. Chris doesn't need to apologize and the legacy of the Fab 5 is cultural, social and long term both at U of M and societally. The Fab 5 transcended basketball and made a remarkable impact in the 90's influencing how teams dressed, how fans dressed but, moreso, they enabled an enthusiasm about basketball, about Michigan and about being young that I haven't seen since (of course, I got older). This includes the current team. I was at Crisler during that time and I have never felt that same energy. Proud of the current team but the sanctions on the Fab 5 and self-righteous flagellation of a segment of the fanbase in terms of apologism is ridiculous. Hang the banners. Celebrate the Fab 5. Celebrate the current team, also. |
