Will be happy to have some talent around that his damn strong coordinators can coach up.

A Canadian soldier died because of that "shooter".
His name was Cpl. Nathan Cirillo. He was from Hamilton, Ontario and was 24 years old.
May he rest in peace.

This was a recent Québécois convert to Islam of less than one year who had become, in the words of his family "radicalized" and was apparently known to CSIS and the RCMP. Seems he was interviewed by the RCMP recently but no chargeable offences at the time. This individual was killed by the Surete du Quebec after his cowardly attack.

Shaw had NFL buzz himself last January (Turned down Browns interview, allegedly) no way he is ever not a Head Coach going forward.
|3 days 9 hours ago||So MSU "Lives" for the game v. Michigan||
...well, over the last six years, anyway.
They were living for it less when Lloyd Carr owned them.
And before that when Bo/Mo mostly owned them as well.
You're right, wile-e8, the papers run a narrative, nothing more. If Michigan shows up like v. Ohio State last year things could go well. If not, new coach/AD sooner.

Been a while since the last "Hello" post

I mean, srsly? A head coach at a successful D1 program takes a 2 million dollar pay cut so the guy who left the school can take over again?
Not a chance.

This mindset that dismisses John Harbaugh as somehow less worthy than Jim Harbaugh is puzzling to say the least. While John Harbaugh had some great end of their career players (Ray Lewis, Ed Reed) on his Superbowl team he also had a ton of younger players and built schemes to win.
It's not like they're giving these things away:
Also, note the internal inscription. I wonder where he picked that up?
|3 days 13 hours ago||Heh.||
He could choose his own salary also. Both might be compelling reasons to move to Ann Arbor.
|3 days 13 hours ago||Free Lloyd Carr||
Mark D: "Lloyd, you guys really didn't need to put 49 on us".
Lloyd: "Listen, sooner or later, I'm going to retire. Michigan will drop Nike for Adidas and the Athletic Director will be hired away from Domino's Pizza"
Mark D: "No shit"
Lloyd: "Then, and only then will you have a chance to win games against Michigan"

If the offense could actually posess the ball and keep the defense off the field...might help with their "potential"
|4 days 1 hour ago||LOL. Wut?||
I have also become tired of this "overrated" defense that is the only thing holding back the tide given the offense underwhelming performances.
Mattison only has the defense at #10 in the nation in Total Defense. Guy should do a better job. Totally over rated.
FWIW, note who the #9 team is when you click the link...that's right, defensive genius Pat Narduzzi.
|4 days 3 hours ago||A question||
Was he a regular on Twitter pre September?
I could not follow Dave Brandon.
Then again, neither can AD success.
|4 days 3 hours ago||Justin...||
So given this criteria, I assume we can eliminate the following CC candidates as they have not been above reproach, certainly:
Pete Carroll (though he wasn't coming anyway)
Probaby some more but I was too busy over here reading my copy of "The Winner's Manual" by the disgraced Jim Tressel.
Given the Michigan criteria I will pray harder for a Harbaugh.
|4 days 4 hours ago||"Delusional Fans" Like Me||
Here's how it works: delusional fans like me stop donating money to the AD, stop buying high priced season tickets, buy them through secondary vendors and suddenly 80k fans are in the stadium and the whole thing blows the hell up.
While it is true that both programs have the ability to be successful the idea that Michigan won't return to dominance with competent coaching and administration is ludicrous. End of the day, the school leadership has to be accountable via hiring and winning to the season ticket base or their revenue goes away.
Should they be motivated to hire the best available after this season? Unless 80 k is their goal then yes. That debt servicing on the stadium improvements also exist let alone the monies spent and debt serviced on non-revenue.
Excellence is the standard and has to occur. Miles, Harbaugh(s), whomever has to make it work.
"Won't last because it can't"

New president can talk all he wants about athletics coming second. But reality sets in with millions of committed funds for new facilities etc. Revenue from football and basketball matter to the university and it's not like the guy can show up and move the direction of the university away from athletics (particularly with that cheque from the B1G coming in each year).
For right or wrong Michigan is wed to big time athletics and the sooner the new guy realizes this the better.
|4 days 4 hours ago||@Justin||
Isn't the program identity supposed to be Leaders and Best? What it's become, sadly, is moralizing elitists and emo fans over the last eight years. They could hire some real leaders, the best in their profession, the "best" but that would cost money and might upset the apple cart of an uptight cadre of fans/Michigan apologists. The same bunch that probably feels bad that Mike Hart called Sparty "little brother" and is apologist about it.
So, you're saying that supporting redemption for an elite level football coach and athletic administrator is not part of Michigan's "identity"? The guy has been a respected "leader" and he made some mistakes. He has more MNC rings than anyone around Schembechler not named Lloyd Carr.
Leaders? Hire them. Best? Pay them. Redemption? Why not Tressel; hell, why not Michigan?
|4 days 5 hours ago||Hmmmmm....||
I guess Tressel's contemporaries in honesty would be Urban Meyer (heart issues never returning to coaching), James Franklin (rape investigation), Joe Paterno (pedophile defender/facilitator), Bobby Petrino (something about girlfriends and Harleys), Nick Saban (that whole injury thing, never coaching at Alabama etc.) and on and on.
Look, the coaching profession isn't full of ethical guys. Except Lloyd Carr, perhaps...and he would have been run out of Ann Arbor on a rail in 2007 had he not walked away.
|4 days 9 hours ago||True.||
But only to 2016. One would think given his "cooperation" with the NCAA and "exemplary" behavior as an administrator etc. added to his connections that this is window dressing in front of a potential hire.
|4 days 9 hours ago||@Justin||
At what point do we stop moralizing as a fan base so we can have nice things? James Franklin rape case cover up, Joe Paterno covers for a now convicted pedophile, Brian Kelly puts a kid in a tower in 50 mph winds to film practice but the school "apologized", Mike Leach locks kids with (alleged) concussions in sheds, Nick Saban oversigns and his players get strange injuries causing them to end up at Colorado State...so does Auburn etc. etc.
Tressel was clearly a player in a very signfiicant institutionally approved series of violations over years. He was also an exceptionally good coach. He was also the coach who took the fall for that school. Not the president, the AD, compliance...nobody. Well, TP, perhaps.
The elite ones (Miles, Meyer, Harbaugh etc.) they all come with moral/ethical/behavioral issues. Why not redemption? Can we not also have nice things? Or does our "moral compass" come first. Dave Brandon could have written that last line.
|4 days 9 hours ago||Tressel...||
I've been backing Tressel throughout "the process" or whatever hell we all currently occupy with Michigan, the AD and any potential coaching search. People talk about how the next coach needs to be elite, an excellent recruiter, a national level hire etc. Tressel ticks all the boxes.
And for people who question the guy's ethics vis a vis tatgate its pretty obvious that he was the one who paid the penalty for what was clearly an institutional level compliance problem. Gee walked, Smith actually consolidated his power and tOSU moved on to Meyer. Pretty sure the NCAA would scale down his penalties.
Jim Tressel is a hell of a football coach. Period. People talk about second chances and redemption. I'd say taking over as the Ira and Nikki Harris Head Football Coach at Ann Arbor would be a start. Also, he could fire Brandon.
|4 days 10 hours ago||Well...||
|4 days 13 hours ago||Heh.||
Something about Brandon breaking down film with the coaches...
|4 days 13 hours ago||Hmmmmmm....||
There is nothing wrong with the politicking but any fan with a memory also realizes the hypocisy of his comments in light of the Stanford and Pitt ref decisions a few years back. If the vast majority of "experts" including Lou Holtz (even) identified it as a penalty and Kelly disputes it that's fine but his credibility certainly suffers.
I can't imagine committee members are moved by his politics at all. He's just playing to the angry Irish fanbase.
