We can type in ALL CAPS all frustrated and it was gut wrenching watching that team on the field today. That's not the Michigan I grew up with or saw with Bo, Mo, Lloyd. That's probably the worst part for me. I feel for the athletes who are not trying to play badly. They are not trying to lose. They have been failed by the coaches who have not schemed well enough or put them in position to win.
Hoke had four years. He hasn't gotten it done. That's it. It's time to move on. Nothing more nothing less.
That said, as long as the narrative is about "how" Michigan wins (all this business about "the right way etc.) vs. simply winning then nothing will change. Michigan needs to accept elite candidates (Miles, Harbaugh etc.) with their issues, pay them whatever they need to and leave them alone (I'm looking at you AD office).

This mindset that dismisses John Harbaugh as somehow less worthy than Jim Harbaugh is puzzling to say the least. While John Harbaugh had some great end of their career players (Ray Lewis, Ed Reed) on his Superbowl team he also had a ton of younger players and built schemes to win.
It's not like they're giving these things away:

Pete Carroll (though he wasn't coming anyway)
Probaby some more but I was too busy over here reading my copy of "The Winner's Manual" by the disgraced Jim Tressel.
Given the Michigan criteria I will pray harder for a Harbaugh.
|1 week 3 days ago||"Delusional Fans" Like Me||
Here's how it works: delusional fans like me stop donating money to the AD, stop buying high priced season tickets, buy them through secondary vendors and suddenly 80k fans are in the stadium and the whole thing blows the hell up.
While it is true that both programs have the ability to be successful the idea that Michigan won't return to dominance with competent coaching and administration is ludicrous. End of the day, the school leadership has to be accountable via hiring and winning to the season ticket base or their revenue goes away.
Should they be motivated to hire the best available after this season? Unless 80 k is their goal then yes. That debt servicing on the stadium improvements also exist let alone the monies spent and debt serviced on non-revenue.
Excellence is the standard and has to occur. Miles, Harbaugh(s), whomever has to make it work.
"Won't last because it can't"
|1 week 3 days ago||Hmmmmm....||
New president can talk all he wants about athletics coming second. But reality sets in with millions of committed funds for new facilities etc. Revenue from football and basketball matter to the university and it's not like the guy can show up and move the direction of the university away from athletics (particularly with that cheque from the B1G coming in each year).
For right or wrong Michigan is wed to big time athletics and the sooner the new guy realizes this the better.
|1 week 3 days ago||@Justin||
Isn't the program identity supposed to be Leaders and Best? What it's become, sadly, is moralizing elitists and emo fans over the last eight years. They could hire some real leaders, the best in their profession, the "best" but that would cost money and might upset the apple cart of an uptight cadre of fans/Michigan apologists. The same bunch that probably feels bad that Mike Hart called Sparty "little brother" and is apologist about it.
So, you're saying that supporting redemption for an elite level football coach and athletic administrator is not part of Michigan's "identity"? The guy has been a respected "leader" and he made some mistakes. He has more MNC rings than anyone around Schembechler not named Lloyd Carr.
Leaders? Hire them. Best? Pay them. Redemption? Why not Tressel; hell, why not Michigan?
|1 week 4 days ago||Hmmmmm....||
I guess Tressel's contemporaries in honesty would be Urban Meyer (heart issues never returning to coaching), James Franklin (rape investigation), Joe Paterno (pedophile defender/facilitator), Bobby Petrino (something about girlfriends and Harleys), Nick Saban (that whole injury thing, never coaching at Alabama etc.) and on and on.
Look, the coaching profession isn't full of ethical guys. Except Lloyd Carr, perhaps...and he would have been run out of Ann Arbor on a rail in 2007 had he not walked away.
|1 week 4 days ago||True.||
But only to 2016. One would think given his "cooperation" with the NCAA and "exemplary" behavior as an administrator etc. added to his connections that this is window dressing in front of a potential hire.
|1 week 4 days ago||@Justin||
At what point do we stop moralizing as a fan base so we can have nice things? James Franklin rape case cover up, Joe Paterno covers for a now convicted pedophile, Brian Kelly puts a kid in a tower in 50 mph winds to film practice but the school "apologized", Mike Leach locks kids with (alleged) concussions in sheds, Nick Saban oversigns and his players get strange injuries causing them to end up at Colorado State...so does Auburn etc. etc.
Tressel was clearly a player in a very signfiicant institutionally approved series of violations over years. He was also an exceptionally good coach. He was also the coach who took the fall for that school. Not the president, the AD, compliance...nobody. Well, TP, perhaps.
The elite ones (Miles, Meyer, Harbaugh etc.) they all come with moral/ethical/behavioral issues. Why not redemption? Can we not also have nice things? Or does our "moral compass" come first. Dave Brandon could have written that last line.
|1 week 4 days ago||Tressel...||
I've been backing Tressel throughout "the process" or whatever hell we all currently occupy with Michigan, the AD and any potential coaching search. People talk about how the next coach needs to be elite, an excellent recruiter, a national level hire etc. Tressel ticks all the boxes.
And for people who question the guy's ethics vis a vis tatgate its pretty obvious that he was the one who paid the penalty for what was clearly an institutional level compliance problem. Gee walked, Smith actually consolidated his power and tOSU moved on to Meyer. Pretty sure the NCAA would scale down his penalties.
Jim Tressel is a hell of a football coach. Period. People talk about second chances and redemption. I'd say taking over as the Ira and Nikki Harris Head Football Coach at Ann Arbor would be a start. Also, he could fire Brandon.
|1 week 4 days ago||Well...||
|1 week 4 days ago||Heh.||
Something about Brandon breaking down film with the coaches...
|1 week 4 days ago||Hmmmmmm....||
There is nothing wrong with the politicking but any fan with a memory also realizes the hypocisy of his comments in light of the Stanford and Pitt ref decisions a few years back. If the vast majority of "experts" including Lou Holtz (even) identified it as a penalty and Kelly disputes it that's fine but his credibility certainly suffers.
I can't imagine committee members are moved by his politics at all. He's just playing to the angry Irish fanbase.
|1 week 4 days ago||Ownership isn't anything Michigan State has...||
Their delusional fanbase might parrot the talk radio but really, before their current streak who had won six straight? These people are defined by a history of being second best in the state, something of a football afterthought, Staee, Tony Mandarich and Sparty No. Maybe Mike Hart was right the whole time.
FWIW, I enjoyed the present in Michigan Stadium but two years ago when Sparty wasn't owning anything. Ulimately, Sparty fan has to acknowledge internally or otherwise the fact that over the years it's been Michigan's series. Sparty might have a period of success now and then (see the 50's) but it won't last. The reason it won't last is because it can't last. Michigan has too much institutional interest, too much money in, too much debt and too much committed to their football program being successful (see donors) not to just can Brady Hoke et al. in 3 months and hire the most expensive guy available (I mean, the new AD can hire the most expensive Harbaugh/Miles/(please be Jim Tressel) available.
If Brady Hoke/DG somehow catch lightning in a bottle this weekend like tOSU last fall then great. If not, I'm confident Les Miles fixes things. The thing is, internally or otherwise, Sparty fan is aware of this also.
|1 week 4 days ago||Jeebus.||
When they win the next 36 in a row and take the lead in the overall series then, and only then, will I stop relying on history. Don't piss on the legacy of Bo, Mo, Lloyd etc. You think those players didn't earn those wins? Should we count by decades only? Perhaps Sparty like in six year increments (unless they have lost all six of those years?). I'm tired of Michigan fans not respecting the legacy of excellence. I get it that the current AD doesn't respect it, or seem to get it for whatever reason...but as a fan I can appreciate the dominance and acknowledge that Michigan will be back (as always).
FWIW, what's going to get you your next MAC coach or keep your current one is David Brandon still running the god damned athletic department.
When 15k fans don't renew this year you'll get your 7 million dollar national hire.
|1 week 4 days ago||How I miss you, Mike Hart||

Gibson might be a better choice, sadly.
This about explains Addazio:
|1 week 5 days ago||You do not want.||
That is true.
|1 week 5 days ago||@Brodie||
I was in Philly during Addazio's tenure. Temple blogger Mike Gibson at Temple Football Forever, quite accurately, stated the following about Addazio after he left:
Truth is, Addazio is a stubborn former offensive lineman who always wants to run the ball. He was that way at Florida and (sans Scot Loeffler’s one year as OC) was that way at Temple and probably will be that way at BC.
OP's defense of/advocacy for this guy is delusional.
|1 week 5 days ago||@OP||
Addazio would be a great O-Line coach at Michigan. He is articulate at football but there was a reason why fans in both Florida and at Temple were glad to see him gone.
The guy is not in Michigan's league.
|1 week 5 days ago||Jeebus.||
Maybe you just had to actually be in a town where Addazio was head coach to not respect his capacity in that role. The guy's ceiling is maybe, maybe a poor man's Kirk Ferentz.
Addazio had excellent coordinators at Temple in Loefler and Heater. Listen, maybe he's perfect for OP's vision of Michigan: he's got the Toledo loss on his record and he's a New Mexico Bowl Champion.
Jesus Christ, Allah and the Buddah could be his coordinators and Addazio would still not offer what Les Miles, Dan Mullen, any Harbaugh bring to the table.
Aim Higher, OP.
|1 week 5 days ago||He's not a great head coach.||
Not at all.
I lived through the Addazio years at Temple. He went to a bowl with the great Al Golden's players (well, he was great when he was at Temple vs. Miami now (YTM). Addazio's offense was boring, predictable, run heavy manball on crack uninspired.
So the guy beat a depleted USC team at BC...he also managed to get lose immediately thereafter to Colorado State.
Steve Addazio, as a head coach, is a winner of the Gildan New Mexico Bowl. As a Temple alum and, sadly, a regular victim of watching his years in Philly...I'd hope Michigan aims a lot higher.

Part of Dave Brandon's vision in partnership with IMG College.
Chobani will increase its presence and products to students and fans by leveraging IMG College's access to school decision makers and its partner schools' intellectual property on campus, in local retail locations, food service, at athletic facilities and more. In addition, students will enjoy Chobani during on-campus health clinics, community events, and athletic training events.
|2 weeks 22 hours ago||Let's begin with Chobani...||
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Accessibility||
Brandon didn't resolve the accessibity issues in 2008 (he was not a Regent at that point and during his tenure as a Regent did crap all related to accessibility) which provided 329 accessible seats plus companion seats. That said, he was there to shake hands and accept the acknowledgements when the stadium improvements were made.
The accessible washrooms (which too may able bodied people still use), the wider concourses, easier accessible parking are all of benefit to every Michigan family (we're all going to get older and every family eventually has to deal with disability or mobility concerns).
I've been to most of the other new facilities and I find this standard in approach. It is a real pleasure to be able to sit with a disabled family member or friend where they can enjoy the games with dignity.

On Addazio: I had the Addazio years at Temple in Philly and the guy is not a phenomenal coach by any means. Frustrating as hell his time at TU. I didn't think it was a great move by BC to pick him up and was frankly glad to see him go. The new guy, Matt Rhule, is younger, a better recruiter and from the Al Golden line of coaches (Al Golden may not be the be all end all at YTM Miami but he his time at Temple was glorious). Addazio went to a bowl game with Golden's players then did nothing...his offense was Hoke manball brutal x50. It is true that he beat USC at home this year and then promptly lost to Colorado State.
Give me the guy who hired Bobby Petrino...hell, send me Bobby Petrino

Remember last fall when half the blogosphere had Michigan losing 56 - 6 to St. Urban and Ohio State. Then a quarterback on a broken foot put 41 on Ohio and lost not because they were not every bit the equal of that Ohio State team on that day but because they went for the win and missed the extra point.
I had me a whole giant crew of Ohio State fans around us in my section and watching them, unable to process their team not dominating because that's what 11W, MGo and the internet said was going to happen...it was awesome.
Maybe Michigan plays like Rutgers, maybe they don't. It's the game. Maybe DG plays on a god damned broken foot again, throws for 450 and Michigan wiins by 14.

The modern "Michigan Man" interpretation requiring baptism in all things Ann Arbor, a degree (minimum...but only from AA not Dearborn or Flint) etc. etc. disenfranchises what is probably the largest segment of the fanbase: the "Walverine" or "Meijerverine"
In terms of the coaching/AD it means the pool is limited to former players, former coaches in the tree of Bo, Mo, Lloyd or those similarly connected. Michigan is a school with national reach. A Michigan Man should be, simply, "Leaders and Best" which would allow for the fanbase to accept hiring of simply the best coach and not need the resume tick box "Michigan Man" as it has come to be defined.
If the Walverine side of the fanbase is disenfranchised then what of these kinds of shirts? "Michigan Man" has sadly become a limiting term.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||A few differences...||
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Heh.||
Bo would not have tolerated emo from the fanbase, that's for sure.
Imagine Bo interacting with one Brian Cook?
|2 weeks 4 days ago||WTF||
How is OP posting without gaining the vaunted "Trusted" status at 500 points? Reading this imagination driven fiction (including pretend Bo quotes) leaves me to believe the threshold needs to be much, much higher.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Agreed||
I don't get OP putting words in a dead man's mouth about Lloyd and Michigan and how "Michigan won" or how Lloyd acted as though he won etc. It's stupid conjecture.
What I know is that Lloyd ran a clean program, won B1G championships, is the coach of the 1997 National Championship team and that he served the university with dignity. He and his legacy deserve better than OP's imaginative post.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||@Brodie||
I have no problem with Miles. It doesn't really matter if your success is reliant on coordinators if you retain the right ones.
Les Miles is good at that.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Matt Wile||
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Lol. Wut?||
|2 weeks 5 days ago||@BeatOSU52||
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Tough as Hell.||
That's a leader.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Tough as Nails||
Ton of character.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||When Was the Last Time?||
Michigan benefited from a call.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||God Dammit||
I mean, God Dammit
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Hands Team||
|2 weeks 5 days ago||FWIW||
That's Wolverine Devotee level of obsessional knowledge right there
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Hmmmmmm....||
I wonder if an alternative universe a bunch of Penn State fans are freaking out about that time out and now safety.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Greg Mattison||
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Heh.||
My Temple Owls are going to pwn Penn State and Hackenberg.
State College: Can't Wait
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Hmmmmm....||
Just crushing Bill Belton tonight
|2 weeks 5 days ago||free dumb?||
Is Dave Brandon typing this?
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Well, yeah...||
But it happened to this guy...
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Signed a few pairs of pants...||
Dolla Bills, yo.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Well done Purdue||
Their QB just channeled his "inner Devin Gardner" UTL endzone pass version
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Double Post||
How about that 4th down call Sparty apologist?
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Easy tiger||
Yeah, their really, really good defense gave up 31 to this point to Purdue.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Oh Hell.||
All blue uniforms?
Also, Matt Godin cut off shirt noted.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Weeellll...||
Maybe Dantoinio/Narduzzi are not, in fact, coaching geniuses.
Purdue has been their equal, physically.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Ouch.||
Allen getting rolled up like that not cool.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Hmmmmmm....||
Can everybody get off the Michigan State defensive genius business now?
Narduzzi talked a bunch of crap about how they would beat Oregon if they played again.
Watching this game; that is obviously the most ridiculous assertion, ever.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Jeebus.||
Purdue Running Back just destroyed Hicks.
Hicks got creamed.
Then trash talked after the fact.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Hmmmmmm||
I can't get over the nut hugging from the announcers on the ND game. Well, that and the officials having Notre Dame in the pool.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Hmmmmmm....||
This looked very, very suspicious to me. That is all.
Gives ND a 1st down...odd coincidence
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Damn...||
I am completely enjoying watching North Carolina play defense against Notred Dame.
Golson getting absolutely killed. Penalties all over the place on the Irish.
Irish fan shitting the bed.
Until the refs manage to screw over North Carolina it's enjoyable to watch.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||"Roughing the Snapper?"||
What sort of bullshit call is that?
|2 weeks 6 days ago||@Thiesen||
It is still Michigan.
It will matter when Les Miles, or either Harbaugh (or my personal pick, Jim Tressel) say that.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Heisman Integrity||
Cam Newton will talk to you about integrity:
|2 weeks 6 days ago||I can't help it...||
|2 weeks 6 days ago||The new policy on integrity||
Did they consult this expert on the subject?
|3 weeks 22 hours ago||Hmmmmmm....||
Not exactly awe inspiring.
That Laurier team isn't top 20 in Canada.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||@Devotee...Wilfrid Laurier||
Canada's 7th Prime Minister, first francophone to occupy the job, a noted statesman and federalist.
This guy, recruited to Ottawa between 1896 and 1911. Five star Prime Minister.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||@Devotee...it's Wilfrid not Wilfred||
Lots of CIS teams could give Michigan a game and/or take a win.
The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks are not such a team.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Jeebus.||
Apparently if he'd just allegedly sexually assaulted a woman, stolen a bunch of crab and offended a cafeteria he'd be suspended for like, a game.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Srsly, OP?||
I read the title and I thought:
"First football is not competitive and now art at Michigan is no longer nationally relevant, damn."
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Credibility||
James Franklin has none of that.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||The answer to our recruiting issues:||
Step 1. Fire this guy (too much brand, not enough wins)
Step 2. Fire this guy also (nice guy, just in over his head)
Step 3. Hire this guy (he's qualified), or his brother, or a guy named Les Miles
Step 4. Profit with 110k + crowds
Step 5. Watch recruits commit
|3 weeks 1 day ago||srsly.||
Calm down OP
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Jeebus.||
Addazio was coaching at Temple and did okay for a year with Al Golden's talent...
Then he did basically nothing and went to Boston College.
7-6 and 3-2 at Boston College is not what Michigan needs at this point.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||@SWolverine||
was crapping on "1932" who is appRently now in Bolivian
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Free shoes?||
That's Talahassee only fella
|3 weeks 4 days ago||WTF||
Is this garbage?
|3 weeks 4 days ago||B - E - N - G - H - A - Z - I||
Legendary trolling, OP
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Unconcerned...||
Pull a few strings, call in a few favours...Tressel been minding his Ps an Qs in his new job. If Michigan wanted to make this happen the NCAA would enable it.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Decades?||
Srsly brah. Enough with the hyperbole, alum.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||By miles||
And I've been to Storrs for football
|3 weeks 4 days ago||@Yost||
I'm repping the CC on Jim Tressel all day and twice more on Sunday. Tressel is a monster hire with a proven history of recruiting prowess (with some non institutional support), player development and game day coaching ability. Michigan hasn't had a coach on his level since Bo/Mo and I'm a Lloyd guy.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||This.||
My Temple Owls rolled UConn this year...a football opportunity that job is not (post Pasquiloni)
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Troll||
Pure 100% unadulterated troll
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Srsly...||
