I appreciate all of your feedback, it is already helping. Obviously I have a lot to learn on the issue and didn't explain a whole lot of my own opinion, and kind of generalized my own point. I like what Purple Stuff had to say about the amateur status being lifted, and I think I'll go along that route. That point seems to make the most sense, at least to myself.
For the record, I don't believe that ALL student-athletes should be paid, as that would destroy the coffers of universities across the country, but I do think that certain players in certain money making sports should definitely be compensated.
I also go to OU. It is definitley a party school. It is a challenge to complete the Court Street Shuffle. Sadly, I cannot pay the money to go to UM. I got in though!
My first memory was going to the Michigan rally for the Rose Bowl for the 97'/98' national championship team. I was 7 at the time, and I just remember being amazed at seeing how huge all of the players were.
Dantonio definitely laid a foundation for Brian Kelly's success. I've been a season ticket holder at UC for the past 4 seasons, and its been cool to watch. Dantonio recruited a lot of the athletes that sent UC to their first BCS bowl, and Brian Kelly has really built on that, and his style of play really fit the team. I don't think UC would have won the Big East the past couple years with Dantonio though. So to answer your question, Dantonio had a hand in Cincinnati's rejuvenation, but he didn't rebuild it by himself.
I think Ryan Kelly may be a hard get for Michigan. His family have been Cincinnati season-ticket holders for many many years, and one of his good friends, Kevin Schloemer is an incoming freshman at UC in the fall. Cincinnati seems to be his top choice, but who knows. He would definitely be a great get for Michigan. He has huge upside.
I bet with all the success they had with Dempsey at striker that they just move him up there for the tourney and stick Holden out wide. Sub in Paco Torres, Gomez, and Feihaber for offensive subs.
Being a Cincinnati fan second to a Michigan fan, Brian Kelly's schemes can make any quarterback look good. Ben Mauk (a transfer from Wake Forest), Dustin Grutza(unspectacular in 3 years of playing), Tony Pike (5th string at beginning of junior year), and now Zach Collaros, an unheralded, undersized recruit. Don't count any of these guys out to put up outstanding numbers in a few years.
As I can't post my own topics, I figured a recruiting post would be somewhat relevant. Just found out that Rich Rod got into contact with Butch Jones and is getting Adrian Witty into Cincinnati this year. Nice gesture by Rich Rod, and he'll be a solid pickup for UC.
I just came across some Jibreel Black news as I was checking out the Cincinnati recruiting news, but it looks as if Black may not be visiting Michigan, Michigan State, or Iowa after his official to Cincinnati this past weekend.

Kelly didn't leave with any decency. The Cincinnati players found out he was leaving from the media. They then had to sit through the entire team banquet waiting to hear from Kelly himself, until finally being called into a room for a meeting. After hearing the first words from BK, Mardy Gilyard and a couple others left the room in disgust. Brian Kelly is a good businessman, and a good coach, not a good person. Rich Rod was painted in an awful light, and BK definitley deserves worse. And this is coming from a UC season ticket holder. I appreciate his coaching genius and the newfound success at UC, but he really stabbed the players and fans in the back. While Quinn has been with Kelly for a long time, I wouldn't say Quinn is quite the offensive innovator that you give him credit for being. Kelly is the offensive "mastermind" behind his spread attack (at least according to him, which after his lies in Cincinnati may be up for debate), and the one that called all the plays for Cincinnati. So yeah, I don't think Quinn has had a large an impact as a casual Kelly follower may think.
