But this is crap. A large reason that this university has its insanely loyal alumni network is historic athletic superiority. Michigan is not as fine of a school as the top Ivies, but it historically went out and competed athletically on an elite basis too. It gave a unique "we're awesome at both" well deserved arrogance that made UM unique and merited the "leaders and best" tag.
Given the continued and sustained mediocrity of the football program, it's almost laughable that you can sit here and say that we're the "leaders and best" when we're not the best academic institution and have been continually getting slapped around for the last decade with our flagship athletic program. We're basically a top 20 institution with a top 20 athletic program (major sports that the public ever notice). This is fine, but this smelling-our-own-farts superiority complex has roots in football superiority, so you can't keep up this leaders and best nonsense while getting embarrassed on national TV 3-4 times per year without sounding silly.
Then again, our alumni network is 2nd to maybe Harvard, so as long as the alumni keep smelling their own leaders and best farts, I'm happy.

is going to really carve up the Houston Baptists of the NBA.
|2 weeks 10 hours ago||Yup....||
GR3 is still grossly overrated. That's a lot of talent for not being able to do anything in a moderately pressure situation. And please spare us some 10 minute stint over the course of last year's tournament where he actually did something.

This isn't Nam. It's bowling. There are rules.
|5 weeks 3 days ago||Amazing.....||
We are so so so much worse than we were last time Nebraska was here. Given the injury shitshow that is Nebraska's offense, it's not like they've taken huge steps forward since 2011.
Brady's coaching and recruiting all revolves around motivation and pulse. Those things get stale and go down the tubes really quickly after having the worst coached / under achieving team on America.

This is because our coaches are really really bad. For some reason, Michigan football player development is on the third layer of inception where reasonable player development takes 4 years where it takes other schools 6 months.
Our safety play has been so damn miserable that these coaches must really be pieces of work if they can't get a stud athlete like Dymonte on the field by this point. I think there is an element of senior loyalty, which is insanely annoying.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||Gordon||
I hate to call out individual players, but Thomas Gordon might be the worst safety in the nation. QB is running backwards under assault, heaves a ball down the middle that is in the air for no less than 3 seconds, and that guy is still 7 yards behind the play when caught.
Holy crap. No speed. No instinct. Jesus.

I woke up in AA on the morning of the 2011 Trash Game and spontaneously headed up (directionally) and down (in quality / human decency) to EL. Sparty had 1 loss at the time that year too.
Since it was too late to do stubhub, I went the scalper route. A buddy and I each paid 140 for upper level seats and it was a pretty big pain in the ass. I have to believe you can find something fairly comparable on Stubhub that doesnt come with the paper / electronic duplicate risk that comes with scalper transactions nowadays.

Give me a break. It's like watching a different sport. There are a couple of Pac 12 and ACC teams that can hack it, but there is not one team in our conference that looks half as fast and physical as 5-6 SEC teams. There is a polling bias because they deserve it.
|8 weeks 3 days ago||Stribling and Lewis....||
They're doing a fine job covering these guys, and I actually think Stribling looks great, but there's some sort of defect where we're the only team in football that allows the football to be in the air for 4 seconds and have no help even coming into the picture.

Add another one that needs to get axed after this season.
|8 weeks 3 days ago||Toussaint||
He really cannot break even the weakest of tackle attempts. It's as though he starts to fall before he even gets touched.
|8 weeks 3 days ago||Hole???||
Given that amazing hole, that was a really shitty run by toussaint. If you're not touched by anybody except a free safety 10 yards down field, that safety should not be stopping you in your tracks.
|8 weeks 3 days ago||Other concern....||
Their WR not even faking out our DB and outrunning him like a WR should outrun a DE.
|8 weeks 3 days ago||Short WRs....||
If you're a 5'8 wide receiver, you sure as hell better be able to catch wide open balls two feet off of the ground.

Phase 1: Run power. Phase 2:........... Phase 3: Gain yards.

If two NFL caliber 5th year tackles, a 5 star in his 2nd year, a 4 star in his 3rd year, and a 300 pound center cannot push around that god awful Penn State team, or even Akron for that matter, why the hell does anyone think we'll be able to manball anyone decent in 2 years? Sure, with 5 dudes in their 4th season, we might be able to push around UConn in a couple of years, but the difference in pedigree and experience between this line and the one two years from now is not so drastic that we'll go from pushing brick walls against penn state to slapping Sparty and OSU around the field.

Ummmmm....what's that guy doing back there? Those weren't exactly Tom Brady 25 yard darts.
|9 weeks 3 days ago||So.....||
We decided to no longer put pressure on the qb, not cover the sidelines, and have safeties nowhere to be seen? Interesting strategy cotton.
|9 weeks 3 days ago||Not a good combo....||
The most mental QB in the country coupled with most under achieving O-Line in history.
|10 weeks 6 days ago||FYI....||
These tanking are heavily weighted on grad programs and especially faculty research, which makes no damn bit of difference for the undergrad students. For undergrad, Notre Dame and Vandy are very very good.
|13 weeks 2 days ago||98%....||
98% of the undergrads at OSU are from Ohio. Their degree sucks and the only point of pride they have is their football team.
Let students bring beer into the stadium and schedule teams with real university names like the old days, and you might see similar passion to all of your likely selective 1980s memories.
|13 weeks 3 days ago||Yup...||
I was planning on running on the embarcadero at half time today in my Michigan shirt. That will not be happening.
|13 weeks 3 days ago||Lol||
Our D Line is astonishingly putrid. I gave them the benefit of the doubt last week, but good god.
|13 weeks 3 days ago||Weird....||
An awful lot of four / five stars in their second years on the lines that can't get any form of push on Akron. This line coaching may be a little suspect.
