IMO Dantonio is the most important piece of that defense. I'm sure Narduzzi is a great DC, but Dantonio coordinated OSU's national championship defense. I bet MSU's defense stays very strong.

Strong take: Ignoring physical potential, Darboh was a better receiver by the end of the season.

I think Gardner's regression and injury may be among the biggest indictments of this staff. After playing half a season at WR he looked outstanding at QB in 2012, only to get significantly worse statistically every year. Also, I don't think the "Gardner is broken" meme is limited to his apparent PTSD. He has had erratic velocity and has not really be planting consistently all year. There seems to be a real possibility that he suffered a long-term injury in 2013.

We won. Can we stop dancing on the grave? It's not like the guy was trying to destroy Michigan. He was doing what he thought was best.

There's probably a reason athletes and coaches like Dave Brandon. You can hate him for his commodification of seemingly everything, but he raised lots of money, and it sounds like he was very, very good to all of the sports other than football. Regarding football, his biggest issue was that his coaching hire sucked.

Regardless of whether an offense is spread or pro-style, it needs to block. I don't think it really matters that much.

I am much more in the "fire Hoke" bandwagon than the "fire Brandon" bandwagon. I don't think people would care as much about Brandon's policies if we were winning football games. Frankly, his policies would lead to better facilities and more scholarships for non-revenue athletes. These are good things.
Regarding Hoke, I would like to see him be successful. If he somehow pulls 8 wins out of his butt I will be pleased and will campaign for his retention. With that said, lol not happening.

So what exactly does Hoke do on this team? Serious question.

So coach, you don't call plays, you don't do anything on offense, you don't do anything on defense, and you don't notice personnel injury issues during games. What exactly do you do here?

Utah has passed the eye test over the last couple of weeks. With that said, they return less starters than most teams in the NCAA, and they have only played cupcakes at this point. The jury is out.

And on the flip side of that, they lost more starters than almost everyone in the country according to Phil Steele

I'm glad we've seen some level of improvement from the OL. Last year's line was the worst in school history, so there simply was no way that it was going to be good at the start of the year this year. As long as we improve every week, this team might end up being stout by the end of the season.

Hey, they've won 11 games in three of the last four years. I'd be cool with that.
|19 weeks 6 hours ago||Like us, MSU changed||
Like us, MSU changed coordinators but not OL coaches. In their case, the OL got substantially better with the switch, but it happened over the course of the second season. This doesn't mean our OL will get better, but it does show that a precedent exists for retaining the OL coach and improving the OL. Young lines usually get better. The last couple years were an anomally, so hopefully Borges was the cause of the anomally.
|19 weeks 6 hours ago||I would like to present the||
I would like to present the Michigan State argument:
In 2012, MSU went 6-6 and had an offense that could do nothing. The line couldn't block at all, but they were fortunate enough to have a starting NFL back standing behind the quarterback. The offense sucked for the entire year. After the season, MSU hired new co-coordinators, but retained the same OL coach. They started out the season worse than 2012, but I think we all know what happened as the season went on. I don't expect our OL to be good at the start of the year. I expected it to be good by the end of the year.
|19 weeks 19 hours ago||I'm just hoping for||
I'm just hoping for improvement. MSU's OL was an abomination in 2012 when they went 6-6, and started last year similarly. However, with new members on the offensive staff, they improved over the course of last season.
|19 weeks 20 hours ago||How does the passing offense||
How does the passing offense look? It sounds like we are almost exclusively passing. Is that the case, or are all the runs just bad?
|20 weeks 2 days ago||For anyone panicking about||
For anyone panicking about Hoke's tragectory, this is just another piece of evidence that people should just relax a bit. Having your upperclassmen in place is important, and last year's Michigan team had the highest percentage of underclassmen of the 2000s. MSU under Dantonio struggled for a while before they started having consistently elite defenses.
