Looks like the afternoon…

Looks like the afternoon will be rough there. Weather.com predicts that the storm will finish passing through before kickoff.

Many interesting points…

Many interesting points already. I think another factor is that Jim Harbaugh has learned what it takes to run an elite college football program, whereas in the NFL there are fewer obstacles to developing and maintaining excellence. The unique circumstances that factor into building and maintaining an elite college program are maybe not so evident or transparent...

- building your playbook and schemes to expose rivals' weaknesses (this weighted approach is very different than the weekly grind of the NFL)

- recruiting and culture building (can't get it done just with old dudes as your assistant coaches -  need to be able to relate to the players and retain them in your program)

When he arrived at Michigan, it seems like there unfortunately wasn't much of a blueprint for staffing a modern recruiting department, a world class gym, or how to approach rivals. Jim needed to learn these important college-specific things that weren't such a prerequisite at Stanford, where it was easier to rise to the top of the conference.

Ryan Day’s coaching is…

Ryan Day’s coaching is inferior to Urbana’s, also. One of the brilliances of Urban & Saban’s coaching is that they will call whatever takes advantage of weaknesses on the field. Harbaugh, on the other hand, is incredibly stubborn with his approach and rarely adjusts for on field weaknesses. Seems like in the tail end of the 3rd quarter, Day is finally giving in and doing what is working (running up the gut). Urban would’ve been happy to call the same play over and over again if it worked.

Just adding to the narrative that Covid hits people in different ways: I don't know if I'm young (I'm 37), but my Myocarditis didn't materialize and cause me problems until a month after my positive Covid test. Now a few months later, it's improved and I can exercise alright (with reduced intensity) but I'm not yet able to drink alcohol without my heart intensifying.

University administration…

University administration won’t prevent a coach from being effective. Michigan’s hockey and basketball programs don’t seem to be suffering from your conspiracy theory at the moment. Similarly, Notre Dame doesn’t seem to be preventing Brian Kelly from having success. If you’re good at your job and popular enough with fans, you’ll be given plenty of opportunity to succeed.

Indeeed. If they can't cover Buckeyes, maybe we should pursue a cornerbacks coach that can recruit. Yet again, our top cornerback targets on the recruiting trail are committed or trending elsewhere.

I got myocarditis weeks after recovering from covid. It’s very scary, and I’m a 37-year-old in good shape. Glad I wasn’t playing football at the time; sitting still was hard enough. Thankfully, the herbal supplement Astragalus helped me recover and I’m back to running a couple weeks later.

Yes, and the Vancouver Canucks also have Wolverines alum Tyler Motte as a hustler on their 4th line. Despite his small stature, Motte often leads the team in shots blocked, hits, and general killing of penalties.

Indeed. The only criticisms…

Indeed. The only criticisms I've read of the Finale (or season 8 at large) are that certain details aren't realistic. But it was all great storytelling, and did an impressive job of reflecting our government and foreign policies. If you missed seasons 4-7, I think you can jump back in at season 8 without missing too much.

Harbaugh addressed the fact…

Harbaugh addressed the fact that we were at a schematic disadvantage trying to defend against the Ryan Day-era Buckeyes by hiring 2 coaches with DC experience to help out Don Brown. Our previous defensive assistants were good recruiters but didn't seem to influence the structure of the defense. We'll know if this was a good decision by December.

Movies are bad these days…

Movies are bad these days because the big production houses are pressured to make films that will make tons of $ all over the world and that pressure is passed on from executives to the filmmakers, stifling creative freedom and opportunities for risk taking. So, talented filmmakers are choosing to enter the streaming "television" game instead. Way more creative freedom with Netflix, Showtime, HBO, etc.

If you want to make a movie adaptation of a beloved story, musical, etc. for Disney, you're gonna have a roomful of executives telling you what does and doesn't work, and each decision will get focus grouped to death. That's how you end up with Disney's versions of "Into the Woods," "Nutcracker & the Four Realms," etc. total crap that offends no one...

Being clutch isn't

Being clutch isn't necessarily something that can be taught. In the spring game, Peters played his best when the outcome of the game was in balance. On the other hand, Speight got worse as it went along. That doesn't have anything to do with experience. There's no reason to believe that Speight won't also choke away the big games again in 2017.
