I think he's transferring to OSU with a recommendation letter from Lloyd Carr.

As a fan, I am disappointed. He'll likely be asked to follow the late show "format." Delivering a nightly monologue doesn't seem like the best use of his strengths. At the same time, maybe he's growing tired of acting in the same role nightly; I understand that going mainstream could be a professional step forward for him.

So far it's worked 12/12 times without any complication. If the choice is to worry about whether or not it works vs. guaranteed death within years, it's an easy choice.

Great post! Yes, I hear it is warmer under Columbus.
Columbus is going to have to wait a while on Horton since he's going through surgery.
The Bruins and Blackhawks are looking a bit worse to me today.
Would be happy to see the Red Wings face my hometown Canucks in the SC next year.

I would like to NOT see the whole time standing around while just a few guys are working. Perhaps that's only done when the cameras are rolling, but it does seem to be a pattern. I would like to see Brady try to maximize every kids' chance for reps, running a more differentiated practice format as often as possible.

Agreed. For me the biggest question mark is now the development of the interior linemen. I was pleased to see that the whole line seemed to improve between OSU and South Carolina. If the new guys can create holes for Derrick Green, the sky's the limit.

This is naive. If you accept that recruiting rankings matter, it has been years since Michigan got a kid that was ranked within the top 20ish at the position of wide receiver. JeRon Stokes and Jeremy Gallon (barely) fit that bill a few years ago and they were undersized for our current needs. We've had no problem getting commits rated within the top 5 or 10 at their position at every position except for WR and RB, although Derrick Green may change that for RB. As of next year, we will be relying on having Darboh or Chesson play above their rankings. And those gentlemen were rated higher than our current crop of commits.
However, a great QB can certainly get the job done with serviceable WRs and a strong line - we see this in the NFL often. The NFL's top receivers rarely seem to be playing in the Super Bowl.

I agree with you at the end there.
For years teams in the NFL like the Steelers and Bronocos have adopted an RB-by-committee approach because as long as you have a stout OL, any competent RB can hit the gaps that are created.
On 2nd and 2 or 3rd and 2, Borges should be able to call a play to put the ball in the arms of the tailback, but the play of the OL took that away.
Same as when we had Jay Hopson coaching LBs - we replaced him and Stevie Brown turned into a good LB. With our current OL coach, the same OL players that were competent last year have regressed week to week.

I think that is least relevant with the WR position. Sure, the attitude of a QB can determine much on a football team (see: Pryor, Terelle). But neither Braylong nor Manningham were "great guys," and yet they were absolutely fine at completing the task of running fast and catching balls.

Amen. Braylon was the difference between some wins and losses. We can't say for sure that a stud WR wouldn't help win some games.
Recruiting - Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Every lineup has been a bit of a let down since I went back in 2008. Can't top the headliners of Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, and Rage Against The Machine. Not just great music, but great visuals, and I've never seen anything anywhere like the energy at RATM.
|2 years 23 weeks ago||It is true that our most||
It is true that our most talented players have established a trend of leaving as soon as possible. This is discouraging because it doesn't reflect the value of staying and getting a degree from UM. Unfortunately, it contrasts with OSU's basketball program where some players have stayed longer than anticipated. I think it makes you at least question the relationship between JB and his players, and the chemistry that the players either do or don't have with one another.

I was curious to see how the younguns on the DL would do in this game - Campbell, Washington and Ash - but didn't really notice their presence while watching the game. Thoughts on them? How much PT did Washington and Ash get? Thanks.
