Maybe this is too much for…

Maybe this is too much for your family, but as a senior member of the Michigan alumni, I'll offer my recommendation.

Not to suggest any of the already mentioned vacation destinations are good or bad, all are special in their own way.  Even the worst is better than anywhere in Ohio!

But for those reading this, let me suggest something completely different.

Drive north to  the Mackinac Bridge and stop for a day trip to the island.  Where else can you spend a day in a place frozen it time, with no motorized vehicles allowed (Just a fire truck and ambulance).

Then visit Colonial Michilimackinac in Mackinaw City, and let your kids wander the fort.

Next cross the bridge and go east on route 134, to Detour Village.

Drive onto the ferry boat and cross over to Drummond island.

Call Drummond Island Yacht Haven https://www.diyachthaven.com/ and rent a cottage on Potagannissing Bay (pronounced pah tah guh NEES ing).  Also rent a pontoon boat!

This is an out of the way, fresh water, Michigan destination that will be remembered forever.

One thing I have to admit is that I have never done this trip but I know Its parts intimately.

For the last 35 years I have spent my summers on board my sailboat, with my family.

We visit all of these places and the Canadian North Channel.  We are normally on the water for 6 to 9 weeks and keep our boat in Mackinaw City.

Whatever you do, Pure Michigan is the best.

I lost my dad 21 years ago…

I lost my dad 21 years ago this past spring, my mom, 20 years ago this past summer.

I think about them almost every day.

Like others, I struggle with the loss.

But over these many years I have come to a realization that has helped me and I'll share with you.

Your dad and mom are still here, you see them every time you look in the mirror, every time you see yourself doing or saying something, that they did or said. Every time you think about them.

You carry them in you and in your children if you are lucky enough to have children.

I see my mom and dad in my grand children also.  It is plainly obvious.

So its OK to feel loss and to miss them, but they ARE with you now and always.

Embrace their departure, talk to your mom and dad, share everything you think they would want to hear.

I still miss mom and dad, but I know where they are.

I saved the life of a young…

I saved the life of a young boy.

While tied up at Mackinaw Island marina on my boat, strong waves caused by the ferry boats, knocked a young boy into the water.

I got to him in time to grab him by the hair as he bobbed between his boat and the dock.

The look on his moms face as I pulled him out of the water, was all the thanks I needed.

Lock him up, lock him up,…

Lock him up, lock him up, lock him up!

AZBlue, the math is right,…

AZBlue, the math is right, as I said, you have to look at your specific use.

I am retired and spend the winter in Florida, I spend the summer on my sailboat in Canadian waters of the North Channel.  So the car sits unused for 5-6 months a year.

Low mileage is a fact of my life, and has been for many years. It's not an ideal car for everyone.

The electric car isn't my only car, so for long trips to Florida or Northern Michigan to the boat, I have a gasoline powered SUV.

Walmart is 2.5 miles away from my Michigan home, Meijers, 4.5 miles away, Home Depot, 6 miles and Lowes, 5 miles.  Dr's office 3 miles.  My Leaf, qualified for the $7500.00 tax credit and DET energy installed the car charging station for free, as an early adopter.

They also have electric car users on a special meter and rate as long as I charge between 11 P.M. and 9 AM.

I figure that if everyone who's living style is like mine, uses electric vehicles, we reduce our gasoline consumption and keep the price low. Reduce our need for foreign oil and help to nullify the influence of the oil producing countrys.

It’s all good.

I bought my Leaf, all…

I bought my Leaf, all electric car in 2012.

I have put 20,000 miles on it and it’s is still a “kick” every time I drive it.

I have heard all of the complaints about battery costs, environmental costs,

life of the car costs, on and on and on.

For me, my grandchildren who have all ridden in the electric car, all of their lives,

they will always live in a world where an all electric car is completely normal. Unlike my generation.

Electric cars are not for everyone. Just like a school bus, or dump truck, or a van, isn’t for

everyone.

But if you drive 20 or 30 miles shopping or running here and there every day, it’s great!

Charges up while I sleep, costs about 4 cents a mile to drive it.

My electric car bill is around $18.00 a month.

Never had a repair, just new tires.

Best car I have ever owned, flat out!

Set you faucets to a slow…

Set you faucets to a slow drip, all of them, hot water and cold.

Open all doors, bedrooms and closets, to get warm air flowing throughout the house.

Stop all thermostat programs that go to a cool down mode. Set your home temperature and select "hold".  Now is not the time to save a buck on heat.

If you can, turn off all exterior faucets, from inside the house.  If you get a frozen pipe, at least you won't flood the house.

If your car battery or antifreeze isn't up to the task, sorry.

I suggest we all take a…

I suggest we all take a moment to chill out about the Washington move.

The Washington family is a participant in a business my wife own's.

We have an intimate knowledge of the Washington situation.

The had a new baby this past fall, the move to Columbus will put them 20 minutes from Al's parents and less than an hour from his wife's family.

He will get a big raise and move back to their home with family and friends.  It's a dream come true for them.

Which one or us wouldn't do the same thing at the same time in our lives?

We need to "move along" there isn't anything to see here.

What I miss

I miss the 100+ foot wall with the running water in the moat, that was the men's urinal in the north endzone bathroom!

That was an amazing experience..

Their Spring Game

Just a show for the OSU fools.

Tigers

I’m in Florida right now and had the chance to watch the Tigers play Baltimore a couple weeks ago.  Tigers lost 4-2 and left 17 men on base.

But the best was on a routine ball hit to third base, whoever was playing third base, threw the ball over the head of the second base umpire, who was between 1st and second base instead of throwing to first base.

Someone decided the Tigers spring uniform would be black tops and bottoms so they look like the umpires.

That should sum up the Tigers season pretty well.

Bang Me!!

Nope

That dive is a "Canopener" kids.

New Baby

Everything that has already been said already BUT......

One shocking piece of news for you.

Remember all the single, married and pregancy stuff,   THAT was the good (easy) times!

The rest of everything that is about to come will change your life, for the rest of your life, in so many ways it's impossible to list them.

You will long for the past, forget it and look to the future.

Because what you have done (bring a new life into this world) is FOREVER.

But keep up the hope, one day if your are lucky, you will have grandchildren.  Then you will understand why you are alive.

hey don

I went out of my way to wish Sparty a "Happy Sparty Football Day" on the 24/7 web site yesterday.

They "Banned Me" !!!

Can you believe it?

How about a bang for my effort ?

Great Win

Now lets hear from the fire Beilein fans.

A coach is a teacher, and this coach shows excellent teaching skills.

What a pleasure to watch this team learn and grow!!!

Go Blue!!

More bang!!

Bang the crap out of me please!!

Thank You

for shairing that. I had always wondered.

Any Michigan football

news in this time of the year, is good, ballz or no ballz.

Oh, you mean Brady, (NTB)  :)

Oh, you mean Brady, (NTB)  :)

Tom Brady

MICHIGAN MAN

I am suprised

no one mentioned the Sklar brother that rolled off the couch onto the floor.

It was just a little fun but it could have been a serious fall.  I'm glad he wasn't hurt.

Urban Meyer

(ytum) played defensive back at the University of Cincinnati, go figure.

Yep, happens all the time.

Great News

Can't have too many Harbaughs in Ann Arbor.

No better place in the world, for the little guy than U of M, Ann Arbor!

I leave Ann Arbor in one month

for a 2 month stay in Florida. I watch the Michigan basketball and girls baseball by way of chromecast.

It's great to know the day winter ends for me and my wife.

Got to go with Clemson

The wonderful ass kickin they gave the Buckeyes, earned them a friend in me..

2016 was such a bad year for me but that crotch grabing beat down, on national television, was wonderful..

Then the 11W melt down, that is still going on, is been the tonic I neded !!!!

Go tigers

Who

works harder than Coach Harbaugh?

Count me in

I poke the bear over at 11W also.

They are in a foul mood the past few days.

I saw the pass on television

and I actually thought the same thing, at the time.

NO NO NO

OSU still has to play Northwestern and Nebraska.

Wisconsin and Penn State have shown everyone the way to beat OSU.

OSU could still loose again, if JT Barrett goes down, it will be over for them.

I'm not worried a bit about what Ohio look's like because of the loss to Penn State

My parents

taught me to be silent if I don't have anything nice to say.

Crickets.......

Duluth Trading

My wife and I shopped at the Duluth Trading company store in Duluth, Minnesota this summer. Everything was expensive but I had to try something. I purchased 3 different style pairs of briefs just for the heck of it. They are the best underwear I own. At $20.00 each they are also the most expensive briefs that I own. $70.00 for a flannel shirt made in Vietnam, didn’t keep me in the store very long. To each his own.

The football camp has expanded

to host 600 campers!

Had to expand the camp to a Community College, across the street.

Follow the link, it's worth the read.

Who's got it better than us?

Manos The Hands of Fate

Most of you are too young to know really trashy movies.  Most of these I have seen posted are just kids stuff.

For my money, Mystery Science Theater 3000 made a multi year run showing the worst movies ever made.

The absolute worst is "Manos, The Hands of Fate.

Wikipedia says;

"Manos: The Hands of Fate is a 1966 American low-budget horror film written, directed, produced by, and starring Harold P. Warren. It is widely recognized to be one of the worst films ever made."

Unbeatable in my opinion.

Your best friend

Your story of your dad being your best friend is really great. I am glad you shared that with us.

I lost my dad 17 years ago this month. it still hurts me.

I have spent a lot of time thinking about him wondering why he isn't with me any more.

Several years ago I realized that he isn't really gone, mom isn't gone either.  They are both right in my mirror, I see them all the time.  They are in me!

I carry both of them and can see them in my children and grandchildren.

I talk to them in my private moments, I share everything on my mind.

I find that as long as I keep them in my life, they are with me every day.

As long as you keep their memory live, they will never die.

Can't really remember

But I think it was Cheep Thrills, "Big Brother and the Holding Company".

Well maybe I'm missing something

perhaps you can help me understand where I have gone wrong.

Michigan gas tax is .19 cents a gallon.

Michigan Republicans impose a $200.00 road use tax on electric cars.

Deviding $200.00 by .19 cents means the law makers think I use 1052 gallons of gas a year.

Multiply that by an average 20 miles a gallon for a ICE car equals 21052 miles.  So "to be fair" so that all drivers pay for our roads, I an expected to drive 21,052 miles a year. (Well that seems reasonable) /s

Now in my real world, I just turned 15,000 miles on my 2012 Leaf.  So I drive about 4000 miles a year.  Lets see, 4000 miles divided by 20 miles a gallon (for an average car mpg) that 200 gallons of gas.  Multiply 200 galons of gas times my fair share of tax thats $38.00.

So I'm pissed but I shouldnt be, help me what am I missing?

In June of 2012

I bought a Nissan Leaf, I'm proud to say I was one of the early owners who helped get this second coming of the electric car going.

I am 65 years old and have owned a lot of cars in my life.  Today, sitting in Florida, I am getting ready to return to my home in Ann Arbor next week.

One of the things I am most looking forward to, is driving my Leaf again.

It is without a doubt, the best car I have ever owned and it gives me a kick every time I get to drive it. It has never been in the shop for any repair.

It is quick, deathly quiet, and at about 3 cents a mile to power, I laugh at the average $18.00 a month electric bill.

(Only about $5.00 of the $18.00 is electricity, the rest is taxes and fees tacked on to our electric bill)

I knew the Leaf would look like old technology one day and better electric cars would come, but I have no regrets.

One day, many of you will get your chance to buy or lease an electric car. I am excited for you!

Since we are not allowed to comment politically on this board, I can't tell you what I think of the Michigan Republican Legislature's road tax on electric cars. But, I do have a strong opinion about them.

Look good but

it would limit our scoreboard to the size it is now.  NOOOOO  I'm looking for the day we have a scoreboard the whole width of the open end zone.

Now if you could add seats the whole width and a Yuge, scoreboard on top!

Lets see a photoshop of that!

11W had a forum entry, but killed it

I saw the story about Urban planning to have a spring Florida football practice, I even replied to the story, but it has been completely deleted in favor of another version of the story.

A little touchy about following Coach Harbaugh, I guess.

Yep

Works for me , all the time!

Perhaps it's your Internet provider?

FCB

BFD

Just imagine

what a great group of players Coach Harbaugh is leaving for the next coach when he goes back to the NFL. /s

(11 Warriors hopes, prays)

College Football today

is a big mans game, it isn’t the same game of Bo.  Coach Harbaugh says Michigan needs to be physically and mentally tough and it requires a coach to be just as tough. For me, I completely trust Jim Harbaugh. End of discussion!

Go Blue

Maybe but

LSU and all their talented kids couldn't keep Nick Saban as their coach.

Would any other MGoBlog follower

agree with me that Michigan, sometimes has recruited players who (seem) to feel that getting into the Michigan Football team is all they need to do?

Take the recently departed Mr. 5* Green. Came into camp out of shape and over weight. Never fought for a spot on the team, just acted like playing for Michigan was the goal.

Look back and you will see others who fit this same pattern. We call them “entitled” team members.

I strongly suspect that these Michigan coaches give all new recruits a strong metric of physical conditioning to follow and goals to meet. Were I a football coach, I know I would have a full slate of goals and I'd follow up on the progress the recruit is making toward those goals.

Until I learn otherwise, I say let the underachievers walk, give the spot to someone willing to work.

OhioBBall

Let me help Ohio out, I'll start  "Fire Thadd"!!!!!

Spring Football in Florida!

I'll be there all February, March, half of April.

Come on Downnnnnnnnn!!!!!

About the fans

I would say the Ohio fans had about 20,000 seats out of the 111,800+ at the game today.  Less than 20%, that's just about what you can expect every time we play Ohio.  Last home game against Ohio had many more Ohio fans than this year in my opinion.

I am a season holder for 24 years, I've see all the big plays, and the painful plays.  I saw the "horror" live and I've seen Harbaugh, Brady, Griese, Woodson, Howard, Bbiakabutuka, Weatley,(on and on) play for their whole careers at home.

Michigan fans are smart students of the game of football, they understand the game very well. Ohio took the crowd out of the game with their run game.  Just as simple as that.

They were better than us, thats all.

We had a hell of a season, to even imagine that we could take last years 5-7 team to a 9 or 10 win team this year is everything I hoped for, last December, when Jim Harbaugh came home.

I am disapointed, sure, frustrated at Ohio's record against us, sure, but I can tell you because I have lived through it, this too shall pass.

Remember, this is Brady's team not Harbaugh's team playing Meyer's team.  Give it some time.

Relax, enjoy the post season bowl game.

Go Blue
