Speights Arm Strength

Does it seem to anyone else that Speight's arm strength/spiral haven't been the same since the shoulder injury?

Agreed. I thought the ball

Agreed. I thought the ball was coming out before Peppers lowered the murderation.

Definitely a tax play.

Definitely a tax play.

Nice location

Very convenient for me - I work next door.  Thanks UMCGC!

"Satellite" Camps

Teams go south for Spring Break to practice all the time in a number of sports, and no one has ever cared.  The Michigan crew team routinely headed south (went to Tampa when I was on it) for Spring Break practices to be able to row outside instead of being stuck inside on the machines.  Other sports do as well.

It's an admittedly brilliant move to hold the practices at IMG, but it's no difference to say you want the football team to practice outside than it is for the crew team to want to be on the water or your baseball team to be outside.

Think @Bry_Mac is spot on the Streisand effect as well (move is (partially) designed to create attention so complaining about it only feeds the fire).

Dude

You're complaining about a free site.  The best Michigan site on the internet, and you get it for free.

But yeah, I can see how it could ruin your day to encounter an advertisement.  Thank god only Mgoblog has this type of reprehensible behavior.  Fortunately for the children, the rest of the internet would never, ever sink low enough to * gasp * advertise.

Awesome. Thank you!

Much appreciated.

Setup

These look delicious and I am excited to try them - so many toppings options...

However, my thought train was interrupted by that last pic - that is a sweet setup.  Do you have pics/drawings/plans so that I can shamelessy copy? (Are those two tables, one on top of the other?)  Did you build from scratch?

Do Want.  Please share!

Relative

I think part of the hype is that it is (or is viewed as) better than MSU's normal/recent recruiting classes.

Great Idea

It could be like the fan-owned sports teams.  I would happily frame my dividend checks rather than cashing them.  I would also happily pay up to be an owner of MGoBlog.

I also don't think that it would necessarily mean the Brian would have to give up control.

While I don't know that going public is necessary - the SEC filings will kill you - I could get behind an equity offering.

y'all realize it's not pure profit, right?

It's not like the amount over the funding amount is straight cash,  There are marginal expenses - printing, shipping, etc.

Brian and the MGo team deserve a payday, and I think they should get it.

But let's not pretend that he gets to take the entire $38K and put it in his pocket, and that with the profit from HTTV he is now Brewster from Brewster's Millions.  Although that would be awesome.

Double Post

whoops.

Nobody has a problem with

Nobody has a problem with that at the undergrad level.  Why would anyone care if it happens at the grad level, after they have a Bachelor's (as opposed to a HS degree)?

If he want's that boy's

If he want's that boy's soul?

Phrasing.

Cat Eyes.

From elsewhere on the internet

Read this somewhere on the interwebz, don't remember where...

The guy set his WiFi to "Hack If You Can".  Next day he goes to log on, and his Wifi is called "Challenge Accepted".

Zak's Shot

One man's opinion and memory on Zak's shooting this year.

Started out outrageously hot (see Europe trip).

Then in one of the early non-conference games (I'm struggling to remember which one), he had a breakaway layup on which the other team undercut him (I thought viciously).  He landed on his elbow and hurt it.

His shooting the rest of the game was terrible, and he seemed to struggle the rest of the year.

Neither Zak nor Beilein ever tried to put his shooting on the elbow injury, but at the time I thought (and still do)  it was pretty clear.

I see you Adam Jacobi.

I see you Adam Jacobi.

Organ Donor

I'd give him mine...but then he'd be really slow.  And wouldn't be able to jump.  Probably not what you're looking for.

Rorschach Test

So watching a Michigan QBs practice is like a Rorschach test, where it doesn't really tell you about the QBs, but rather reveals insight into the viewer?  I like.

I agree with you 100% that

I agree with you 100% that Spike is too small to inbound the ball against a pressure defense.  However, I think Bielfeldt's ole "throw the ball directly out of bounds on the inbounds play" last night probably is not going to help our cause in Beilein's mind.

#teamhavealargepersoninboundtheball

#teamlet'susereallylonghashtagsthataresilly

Still a huge Beilein fan.

Hypocrisy

So you can only be in movies that espouse your beliefs?

Is Denzel a hypocrite for starring in American Gangster, or is it totally consistent because he's pro gangster?

Is Clive a hypocrite for starring in Inside Man, or is he totally a fan of bank robberies?

Double Post

Nothing to see here

To Be Fair,

He did post it as a rumor, not an e-fact.

PCU

Extremely underrated movie.

My Take

Hoke should have either (i) called for the timeout earlier in the play clock, or (ii) not at all.

As I recall it, there were about 25 seconds left, and PSU had a 4th and 1 on their own side of the field.  If you call timeout with 25 seconds left, they are likely to punt, and you give Fleet a chance to return it and/or run a couple of plays yourself.

If you don't call timeout, clock expires and everybody goes to halftime.

However, with 3 seconds left, you give them a chance at a hail mary, and don't really get anything in return except for a (in my opinion, extremely small) chance at a pick-six.

My problem with the timeout is not that he took it, it's when he took it.

Pace

So, to be clear, we play at a slower pace than Wisco (and every other team in the B1G other than Northwestern)?

?!?

Oof.

Overreaction

Agreed.  Not nearly enough overreaction.  I mean, clearly the reason Courtney Avery has been moved to safety is not because Jarrod Wilson is struggling, but because Channing Stribling has already earned a starting corner spot.  Lock to red shirt, ha!

There, I feel much better.

(Actually reminding myself: small sample size and selection of only a few plays over and over).

Dining Hall v. Training Table

I agree, Michigan's dining halls are probably below average when it comes to schools.  However, don't forget that football players get training table, which is significantly better than the dining hall.

Not sure how UM's training table compares to other schools...unfortunately, I was never allowed to partake.

Obvious approval

is obvious.

Dawson

Ace has told us not to worry about David Dawson.  So I won't.  Or I'll try not to.

I will say this however.  Despite having no knowledge whatsoever about offensive lineman skills, potential, etc., David Dawson has quickly become the offensive line recruit I am most excited about.

This is likely due to the fact that there has been more out there about Dawson, (and exciting tidbits like the coach using Dawson as an example to the others over and over to teach technique at the one camp, which seems like a real indication of skill, as opposed to a review, somehow).  Magnusson or Kalis may be better, but we just haven't heard as much about them.

That said, it's sunk in, and I'm now convinced David Dawson is awesome and the best ever.

So please don't break my heard Mr. David Dawson.

That is all.

Tom and Silas

I actually was fortunate enough to row with both Tom, and his pair partner, Silas, at different times in my career.

They're both great guys, and deserve everything they get.  Best of luck to them this summer - I'll be rooting hard.

Go Blue, Go Card, Go U.S.

Ham

What's with all the ham references?

Whoa

With Devin's back already seriously injured, we can't risk him playing.

We also wouldn't want to risk him losing his (ahem) medical redshirt.  But that's insifignificant compared to our concern for Devin's health.  His back is very, very, injured.

But Tate (or anyone else, Avery?) can have as much back-up time as they want.

FO S&P+ Offensive Ratings

List us at #3.  Seems about right.

List Oregon at #24.  WHA!?!?!

Grain of Salt

It's from the Monday Presser

The video is available on Mgoblue.com

Hemingway's Catch and Run for the Touchdown

It was third (fourth?) and short, Denard rolls left, has TONS of space for an easy first down, and chose to gun it to Hemingway.

Then Hemingway, waited, waited, juked and went for the touchdown.  So it all worked out.

But as Denard was throwing it, I was incredulous.  We had a guaranteed first down, and probably another easy ten yards if Denard just ran.  But he chose to make a relatively difficult throw across his body.

And this wasn't a case of going for the home run.  It wasn't like the first play of the game where no one was between Roundtree and the endzone.  There were three Illinois defenders around Hemingway to make the tackle.

When Denard chose to throw, he gave up a guaranteed 15 yards and a first down for a chance at completing a 25 yard pass.

Even though we got the touchdown, I really wish he'd run for the first down in these cases.

Now that's some new math

Rich Rod can fit 10,000 words into a 1,000 word picture.

On Taking Other Votes Into Account

I agree with you.  Other people's votes shouldn't matter.  I also rarely vote, saving my votes for the best (and worst) comments.

However, I do take votes into account when I feel that somebody has made a valid point and is getting negged unfairly.  In that case, I almost always give the post an upvote (even though if there had been no negative votes, I would not have voted).

Cowherd is an Asshat

Who gets everything wrong.  Just today, Bethlehem Shoals of Free Darko fisked him for his comments on John Wall.

http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/11/04/the-works-john-wall-dances-and-a-foo…

Good read, except thinking about Cowherd's asshattery gets me furious.

Math

You have Black +6.5 -1 = 1.  Something is wrong.

Oh wait, we already knew something was wrong.  Damn.

EDIT: Bouje and Blue-Chip are much faster than I.

I don't get the hate

They added an interesting and competitive team to their schedule.  That's a good thing.

I don't know why everybody wants to hate on State for this, especially while D'Antonio is currently demonstrating his patented "Zero Tolerance Policy" as a means of effectively molding young men into upstanding individuals.

I'm all for hating on State.  But for scheduling Boise State?  Relax people.

Mouton

I recall something about Mouton battling an injury in this game.  Maybe this explains some of Brian's ire?

Haloscan

I feel like people claiming "first" happened a ton during the old Haloscan days.  This was when I just lurked, and long before I ever registered.

Back when people besides "The Knowledge" got handle-jacked.

Oh, the good ole days.  Sigh.

While I would hate to denigrate any form of the Bake,

I must respectfully disagree.

When I attended UMich (02-06), West Quad was on the Blue menu while South Quad was on the Maize menu.  At South Quad, the Chicken Broccoli Bake was the only entree requiring rice, and the sauce was cooked with the rice.  This resulted in rice that had enough time to properly soak up the greasy goodness.

The Blue Menu on the other hand served the Bake with another entree which required rice.  Therefore, West Quad cooked the Chicken Broccoli Bake sauce separately from the rice.  This resulted in a runnier sauce and the rice did not have time to properly soak it up.  Further, it always seemed less greasy than South Quad's.

Shall we settle the matter with pistols at dawn?

Damn you're smart

and good looking too!

Devin Wants

Soo, Devin shouldn't be redshirted if he doesn't want to?

The internets have been up in arms about how Tate needs to shut up, learn to be a teammate, and do whatever Rodriguez wants him to do in order to be team player.

But we shouldn't redshirt a freshman (or sophomore) qb just because he doesn't want to?

It seems like a double standard to me.

(I know you didn't say anything about Tate.  I was just using this as a point of comparison.)

Your name suits you.

Your name suits you.

Shoe

As I recall, Schilling just called him "Shoe" in one of the videos.

Picks

Denard's first pass to Stonum in the UConn game scared the bejeezus out of me.  A half second later and it was a pick six.

But otherwise, I generally agree with you.
