According to Rittenberg on…

According to Rittenberg on twitter:  ""no further game restrictions will be served by anyone who is still on the U-M staff."  So the school at a one-year show cause for guys who are in the NFL this year anyway because that's a meaningless penalty.

We already had Glenn…

We already had Glenn Robinson III and Tim Hardaway Jr like ten years ago.

Been expecting Scottie to…

Been expecting Scottie to run away with it a couple times and he just doesn't.  About to drop into a three-way tie.

This job must be awful.  I…

This job must be awful.  I have to assume Lindenwood (and Stonehill) has hugely fewer resources than anyone else in college hockey.

Some non-traditional markets…

Some non-traditional markets work -- Vegas and Tampa for whatever reason seem to -- but Phoenix was a failure from the start and only Bettman's intransigence prevented this from happening 15 years ago.  I personally would have preferred either something in hockey's homeland (Quebec City ideally), but just cutting bait on Arizona is good progress for the league.

I am not a total NIT hater. …

I am not a total NIT hater.  It has a lot of history and particularly for good mid-majors that get upset in their conference tournament I think it's great.  What Indiana State is doing, for instance, is awesome.  The sub-NIT tournaments are all obviously preposterous, but this one in particular by reserving spots for the dregs of the power conferences.  In a world where those teams have started turning down even the NIT, though, why does this tournament think they would attend?  They must plan to blast some serious money.

Opening with a ten minute…

Opening with a ten minute discussion of the walkability of exurban Missouri.  Someone is trying to suck up to Brian.

Not even really "accused,"…

Not even really "accused," there's no suggestion Alabama is doing anything wrong, it's just part of the story with the explanation that sign stealing is ubiquitous.  Just incredible that they spun this into two months of hysterics for us.  And absolutely impossible to believe the difference is that our stupidest staffer had his friend take grainy iphone video rather than that it was a hit job because a lot of people in CFB personally dislike Jim Harbaugh.

There are four people on the…

There are four people on the roster we could still lose more (one of the four is Jace).  Four is, notably, fewer than five.  We need to be in the portal just for bodies at this point.

This is a good reality check…

This is a good reality check for the corner of the fanbase that thinks we can hire Tony Bennett/Nate Oats/the Ghost of Red Auerbach.  Quinn's take that Shaka Smart is an almost certain no is a surprise to me and I thought I was on the more realistic end of the fanbase.

Officially announced he's…

Officially announced he's gone.  I know we all hate on Warde, but credit where credit's due for making this decision quickly.

Why would any of these…

Why would any of these people leave their current jobs?

Coaches are already getting…

Coaches are already getting fired, so let’s make a decision here Warde instead of waiting until all the good and gettable options have already been snapped up.

Lol had that exact…

Lol had that exact experience.  "What do you mean this isn't included in my package?"

Ugh I thought this was on…

Ugh I thought this was on real BTN.  Ironically I can get everything under the sun on ESPN plus (St. Lawrence/Yale, Canesius/Holy Cross) but can't watch this.

Every single person …

Every single person (including the coach) is cyan'ed except for one with a brick icon and one who spent half the season academically suspended.  That's got to be a record for bleakest lineup card ever.

Last year who exactly needed…

Last year who exactly needed to see if Penn State or Iowa was the best team in the country?  This is why it never should have gone past four, it's just going to metastasize until the regular season turns into an exhibition.

Currently 14 which would be…

Currently 14 which would be the last team in if there are no conference tournament upsets so the only autobids are Atlantic Hockey and CCHA.

Is this showing gymnastics…

Is this showing gymnastics to everyone else?

College football is getting…

College football is getting a less pleasant place to coach I don't doubt, but I am actually surprised you havent' see these kinds of moves more often.  If you just want to coach ball a lot of the stuff that has been part of college coaching for 100 years also seems not that fun.  I can't imagine spending half my working hours sucking up to 17-year-olds, for example

You don’t want to end up…

You don’t want to end up like A&M or Miami, who notably both suck, but you have to find a happy medium.  When the best player at the most important position grows up down the road and he goes to play for Brian Kelly 2000 miles away because you won’t even engage on money, something needs to change.

Outside of the Godfather…

Outside of the Godfather sense, there is no offer he can’t refuse.  If he gets an NFL job and decides he wants to be an NFL coach a million dollars on the margin isn’t going to make a difference.

Yeah on the one hand $53,000…

Yeah on the one hand $53,000 struck me as really low especially for how much media hype this is getting (it has a TV deal!).  On the other hand you're right that minor league football has repeatedly failed, and the only reason the minor leagues in other sports survive is huge subsidies from their parent major league.

I know nothing of Minter…

I know nothing of Minter specifically, but I feel like 9 guys out of 10 would take an NFL job for the same salary, if only because recruiting seems like miserable work to me.

I'm not saying JH would have…

I'm not saying JH would have asked him to take the interview as a sham, but Rooney Rule gamesmanship has been pretty well known for decades and a guy who left Stanford because he resolutely failed to adapt to the last 15 years of offensive trends would be a bizarre choice to actually hire.

What was Saban thinking…

What was Saban thinking having him throw 12 garbage time passes over the course of 5 games in 2019?  That's awful redshirt management.

I think like most people I…

I think like most people I heard the word “UMass” and assumed he wouldn’t have the physical tools to compete at the top level.  For him to finish the year shutting down Ohio State, Alabama, and Washington and probably getting drafted is beyond my wildest dreams.

Stunned no one has mentioned…

Stunned no one has mentioned Lance Leipold yet.  He's had success at every step including in arguably the worst job int he P5.

Flight Aware shows two Atlas…

Flight Aware shows two Atlas 747s (the plane they took down) going from Houston to Detroit, one landing at 540 and one at 740.  I don't know which one the team will be on (nice to have a non-coaching search reason to fire up the flight tracker).

I'm not going to complain…

I'm not going to complain about what we're wearing in the national title game (you know, because we're in the national title game) but I would absolutely have preferred the classic look.

They've had the advantages…

They've had the advantages of a) infinity money and b) being the flagship school in the most talent-rich state forever and this is the first time in a decade they've been particularly great.  Maybe moving to the SEC is a game changer, I guess.

No.  I don't want to play a…

No.  I don't want to play a road game, I think Texas is probably better at most positions and Washington will need a transcendent Penix performance to win.  And while far less important, a guarantee of a northern team winning the title (first non-Ohio State team to do so since we did in 1997!) is great.

The Ohio State fans I saw on…

The Ohio State fans I saw on twitter want him to play guard, where I guess he wouldn't have to snap the ball.  Idk.

A good way to identify if an…

A good way to identify if an article about Michigan is written by a moron is if it has the word "cheating" in the url.

The big ten champion is…

The big ten champion is playing the pac twelve champion.  Yes they are.

For more short term money. …

For more short term money.  It may be a monetary disaster in the long term.  How many people watch AAA baseball or the G League or the AHL?  Or for that matter the USFL or XFL? Somewhere in the neighborhood of zero.  People might always watch their alma maters, but if college football becomes the-NFL-but-worse its hard to see it sustaining the current level of interest.

Yeah, UNC is (was?) up there…

Yeah, UNC is (was?) up there with Michigan as the most prestigious public school that isn't Berkeley in the country.  If their chancellor is taking a lateral move to MSU it's a measure of how absolutely poisonous politicians there have made things.

Edit: their last chancellor resigned without even lining up a new job over the Silent Sam stuff.  What a clusterfuck.

Our bench is on the side…

Our bench is on the side with the press box, which I think is the west side

I got tickets on “our side”…

I got tickets on “our side” through the Rose Bowl website a few hours ago.  They were outrageously expensive and might be gone by now, but that is, or was, an option.

Fwiw I was there and she was…

Fwiw I was there and she was walking around without a cast in the second half.  Definitely limping but it didn’t seem like a season ended for her.

Man Oklahoma State's defense…

Man Oklahoma State's defense is something else.  I guess I don't watch a lot of Big 12, but it is one of the worst units I have ever seen.

The bit about falling for…

The bit about falling for MGoBlog in the heady days of the RichRod coaching search immediately sent me back to Mason Hall and my freshman year.  Remember the dancing banana for some reason?

It’s worth noting that while…

It’s worth noting that while this is the most completely outrageous thing I’ve seen in a lifetime of watching sports, it probably has minimal impact, because most coaching is done during the week.  The PSU line has moved a half point.  The national and conference title odds have not changed.  Just win, baby.  And my god Petitti’s face if he has to give us the trophy is going to be the best thing I have ever seen.

An unfortunate fact of our…

An unfortunate fact of our system is that forum shopping works, does anyone know where this will be filed?  Both whether it will be filed in Michigan or Illinois (I would think the B1G bylaws have a forum selection clause to Illinois, but don’t know, assume M will file in Michigan if it can) and state or federal (this has to be a diversity case, and I suspect the B1G is a citizen of each state it has a member in including Michigan so state court)?

I caution people against…

I caution people against assuming this is a slam dunk.  Nothing is in litigation.  A key factor is likelihood of success on the merits, and unless you have read the Big Ten bylaws, none of us know what that is.  That Petitti is a power-drunk scumbag, or that this is outrageous, really don’t matter if he followed conference-approved procedures.  Michigan’s lawyers seem to think he didn’t but I have no idea if a judge will agree.

That would be cool, but if…

That would be cool, but if we had that why would we have let it get to this point?

I don't doubt a three game…

I don't doubt a three game suspension is "possible" and perhaps even likely.  But I also wouldn't discount that they're leaking the most severe punishment on the table for purposes of settlement negotiations.

Relatedly, if they go the…

Relatedly, if they go the indefinite route (which seems unlikely) do they have the power to suspend him for the bowl or playoff game?

Pretty much any option could…

Pretty much any option could be.  I mean the choices here are a) back down and look weak; b) go for a draconian suspension, lose in court and look weak; c) go for a draconian suspension, win in court and ensure that one of the biggest draws in the conference tries day and night to end your career.  He's painted himself into a corner.

I really don’t think this is…

I really don’t think this is to game the TRO process (which by the way we should stop thinking is going to be a slam dunk for us).  The Ockham’s razor answer is that he’s stupid, he got out over his skis and painted himself into a corner and now he has no good options and genuinely doesn’t know whether to hammer us or back down.

also yes, thamel is the biggest hack in the national media, but he’s the one who posted this and it’s news adjacent so stop being mean to op.
