I got my copy in the mail on Friday from Barnes and Noble -- don't know why . In any event, I'm about 375 pages into the book -- I was so engrossed I missed Arrieta's no-hitter last night (and I write about baseball).
A couple of notes that I haven't seen elsewhere (although I could have missed them):
-- All the stuff about Brady Hoke taking the job without knowing how much he would be paid was pretty much staged by Brandon who wanted to replicate some Bo quotes. Also because it was handled that way, Hoke's agent was able to get hundreds of thousands more, since Brandon pretty much had to give Hoke what he wanted at that point.
-- One of Hoke's first questions to Brandon after accepting the job was about Tate Forcier's situation. He wanted to use Forcier at QB and move Denard off the position. Doesn't that pretty much tell you why the offense deteriorated.
-- You will have an even better appreciation of Devin Gardner after reading this book and seeing how poorly he was treated by Hoke/Borges and to some extent Nussmeier.
Lots of great stuff (although there is some repetition and a number of typos I would have expected to have been cleaned up by the editiors).

Lamarre profiles as a #4 or #5 outfielder: good glove, good speed, shaky bat. Here's what baseballhq.com said about him this morning:
After the Marlon Byrd trade, the Reds called up former 2nd-round pick Ryan LaMarre to make his major league debut. The 26-year-old has had his share of injuries over the past few seasons, everything from plantar fasciitis to hernias and a stress fracture in his left tibia leading to surgery. That slowed his climb through the minors, but now the 6'1", 205-pound outfielder has made it to the majors. He brings speed and a little power, with a decent OBP, though his batting eye this year has taken a step back and his BA has suffered. Defensively he plays the outfield well. He has good instincts and a solid arm. Off the bench he can provide a bit of pop, a chance to get on base and steal second, but probably with a low batting average. He might make a decent late-inning defensive replacement or pinch runner. In six minor-league seasons LaMarre has produced a batting line of .261/.340/.372 in 2008 AB.

On the Gentry to tight end rumor, at a DC alumni function last night, Brian indicated he was pretty sure that wasn't happening (at least not for a couple of years and then only if Gentry was pushed down the QB depth chart).

I've got relatives in Livonia so I stay at the Marriott there -- it's way cheaper than anything in A2 or remotely close to A2. Then it takes 20 minutes to drive down and I park in one of the lots on Main Street and walk the 15+ minutes to the stadium. On the way out of town, you're already close to the expressway so traffic isn't much of an issue. Besides if you want to walk around campus and the town after the game, you can moot the traffic issue that way. The Livonia Marriott is a standard Marriott, but it does have a nice restaurant and it's attached to a small mall that's got a couple more restaurants and an M Den if you need some last minute paraphernalia.

One of my favorite experiences at an MLB ballpark involves Moby Benedict -- sort of. It was 1972 and I decided to go to Wrigley Field by myself -- my then wife was working on a Saturday afternoon. Since I was alone, getting bleacher seats didn't seem like a wise idea -- going to the bathroom or getting something to eat meant potentially losing your seat. Thus, I bought a reserved seat that turned out to be in the first row behind the first base bullpen. I was early, and the area around my seats was filled with kids who were yelling, "Are you going to play today" at former Michigan infielder Ted Sizemore. I decide to shout out, "Hey, Teddy, what do you think of Moby Benedict?" Sizemore looked into the stands; pointed at me; I nodded, and Sizemore came over and talked with me about Michigan and Michigan baseball for about 20 minutes.

I'll throw another name out: Florida. I know a Florida alum who has ties to the athletic department. He indicated that they feel that they're at a disadvantage in the SEC because of, well should we say, shady practices and have quietly explored options. Florida's academic reputation is on the rise. A nice little dig at the SEC would be to bring in Florida and Vandy. The latter is N'western in football, but a legit basketball contender.

I'm told that the campus is about a mile from the Metro and it may not be something you want to walk to at Midnight. Also Metro on the weekends is prone to very long waits.
|6 weeks 1 day ago||I recognize that most of us||
I recognize that most of us never saw a Michigan game before Bo's arrival, but so far the only game mentioned pre-Bo is the Snow Bowl game. If I remember correctly, Michigan won a few National Championships before Bo; won some Rose Bowls along the way; had a Heisman Trophy winner named Harmon; and a quarterback named Friedman who would have won at least one Heisman if the award existed when he played. I've gotta believe there were at least a couple of games that warrant inclusion -- recency bias be damned.

As for baseball, Richard's been mostly an innings eater -- not that that's terrible in the big picture of things. He's been very effective this year at Triple-A, but his weakness -- an inability to miss bats -- showed. While he's demonstrating great control, he's striking out less than five batters per nine innings.
