If you force a meme into a situation where you don't have the right players, you're really going to struggle. I suggest that perhaps we use some type of hybrid system in this case until we have a few recruiting classes completed.

Are you saying Denard and a Steve Slaton wouldn't be effective against our opponents? 28 points or more we scored vs. 10 teams in 2010 with the youngest offense in the Big Ten. I don't care where you stand with the RR...but last year's offensive system/coaching with a Junior Denard Robinson carrying 15 times instead of 20 and a Steve Slaton caliber back would melt every Big Ten DCs head next year. OSU wouldn't even stop us in the Big House. FWIW not a RR debate just a talent and system debate.

Drob had 121 rushing vs. Wisconsin (5.5 per),  191 vs. Penn State (7.1) and 105 (5.8 per) against both Iowa and tOSU and barely played half the game in both contests. These are 4 of the B1G's best defenses and he combined for 522 yards rushing against them. Even Miss. State didn't really stuff him running he just didn't run much because they didn't want him hurt, and didn't wanna burn Devin's redshirt potential (I'm guessing). Sparty is the only team that contained his running without paying horribly in the passing game for it. His red zone passing wasn't always good though.

2 years 5 weeks ago	My friend	My friend /no s intended... RR didn't get it done here (fast enough) but I don't think thats the point truss is making. He is simply saying given more time with a spread type coach and our recruiting base... 3 wins turns to 5 then to 7 then to 9 and then maybe more wins on a regular basis, and suddenly you forget the past and are thankful for what you have...a coach like Chip Kelly who does insanely innovative/exciting things offensively & can use his system to even the playing field against the elite. If folks think RR had topped out at 7 wins their batty, Mattison however is doing much better things on D hence the frustration some have is that it's a catch 22 of waiting on something exciting that takes time and maybe has too many bumps and unknowns, or going with something that has been proven to work but may not be as exciting nor have the upside that a RR type might have once things are in place. Regardless of  anyone's opinion it is hard to win with the lack of experience and depth we've had the past few years. Also, Michigan is an elite program if your definition of elite includes history, academics, having a top 15 recruiting base and a great campus. Unfortunately, tradtion alone doesn't cut it in this day and age. I'm not sure we are a truly elite program right now, nor am I sure we have been in a decade. Hopefully, we get back.

Pat White Dennis Dixon etc....4 out of the last 6 NCs ran the TRUE spread and LSU was multiple...Bama FYI is a one back zone team. There haven't been a lot of great I form teams either but the trend may reverse Anyway, there have been tons of really good spread teams so please cut the crap.

2 years 7 weeks ago	If RR...	ends up at Clemson ( I think he will by 2012) he will win. 1. It's the ACC, they suck overall and they don't have the defenses that the Big Ten does...2. RR would get a Denard /Pat White/ Shaun King type quickly and already has Spread players, so no major transition. 3. Clemson has a fantastic recruting base, and especially fantastic for hitting Florida and speed. 4. Considering the style vs. competition/weather/recruiting base/acedemic standards/expectations on the field etc. RR would be a perfect fit there and they want him BAD. My prediction is: Rich Rod goes to Clemson after Swinney gets fired this year and competes for ACC championships regularly with some very 'sexy', exciting teams that don't play very good defense.

2 years 11 weeks ago	I agree with the OP (sorta)	They are also in a different tax bracket each year. They lose about half their money to Uncle Sam. I'm sure there are tons of guys in the league who don't net anywhere near $3 million. I wouldn't say they all have my sympathy..but it is a mixed bag in any form of pro sports or entertainment. You can be "rich" and lose it all. Just take entertainment/music for example, when you are promoted you are promoted in a way to make you look like you have a certain lifestyle to appeal to the masses (by necessity). The image that is projected to the people is often not the reality. Do they have my sympathy? No, and they probably don't want it. But some of their situations certainly don't make me as overly envious as it does to other people looking at the same person(s).

2 years 16 weeks ago	The funny part	about this Mallet argument is that it really doesn't matter when it comes to on the field results. DRob will be the QB in 2011. Mallet wasn't a Wolverine in 2008. Period. Doesn't matter that "Rich Rod ran him off" as some ppl like to say. Hoke will have better talent on the offensive side of the ball than RR had in 2008 regardless of any other arguments people would like to propose.  2008-Threetidan, Freshman Concussion machine McGuffie/Minor with a broken wing, all 1st or 2nd year guys at WR with the exception of Matthews, and virtually no experience on the O line learning a radically different system than alot of them were recruited to.. after a coaching change that is usually difficult for any team in it's first year under said coach. VERSUS 2011-Robinson/ Gardner, WRs "galore", a large group of RBs who just got a year older, and a very experienced Oline. Everyone is back. Oh and did I mention Threetidan?  But anyway Mallet wasn't here and I guarantee RR didn't go after him with a stick. At this point I just want to see our current staff succeed with the players Rich Rod brought in even though I liked Rich a lot.

" I disagree for the same reason that I felt our offense would have to improve immensely in 2010 to win 7-8 games. Looking at our depth chart on defense I never thought we were going to see massive improvements this year on D from the previous years, and I don't think we would've or will see major improvements on D this upcoming season. I know I'm pulling my crystal ball out here and also being very hypothetical...but let's dig in to my take of 2011 under Rich Rod. Even if we hired a new DC and ran more 4 man fronts, and our freshmen turned into sophomores (this is usually what happens /s) I think there would still be some holes and issues on defense that would make it difficult to make any serious strides. To be even more blunt our defense isn't very talented right now and the solution is 1) Continuity 2) Better recruiting that generally follows more success on the field (thus eliminating the high amounts of negative recruiting/ bad press). I think our defense would have been middling at best in the Big Ten under Rich Rod next year, and probably far below average and our ST is a work in progress in terms of the kicking game. Our offense, however, was and still is going to be dynamic 2011. We still have A LOT of work in this are though and the offense itself would've (and still can) win us at least 9 games in 2011. Denard is absolutely fantastic as a college QB and Devin is better than Tate. Dee Hart would have been an immediate impact guy who would've complimented DRob perfectly IMHO. WRs galore and an experienced line+almost everyone back meant 9 wins to me regardless. Beating the elite is still going to be a challenge for Hoke and probably would've been for RR next year. 2010? Who knows with that murderous schedule.

The fact that Malzahn has had to adapt his playbook and playcalling to such a gifted young man means that perhaps he would have some hands-on experience and useful advice he could lend to Borges. I'm not necessarilty suggesting running a spread or a wildcat as our base offense the way Malzahn does, or using Malzahn's playbook as our entire offense but that we could learn how to more effectively use Denard by meeting with Malzahn. I think at this point we all realize there is going to be I formation and a multiple sets. I just think it could be helpful to exchange ideas with Malzahn, and also was curious if anyone had heard any news on this front.
