This was my first thought…

This was my first thought when I heard the news. I’m not sure if that says more about me, Norm, or OJ.

So what I’m seeing is it…

So what I’m seeing is it took a Canadian school president to make the push? There’s some poetry in that.

You mean they were both…

You mean they were both offensive coordinators?...

Speculating here but is it…

Speculating here but is it possible that JJ was coached to take the sack every time rather than throw a 50/50 ball that might get picked. Iowa's defense is known to be good. Their secondary is excellent. It might have been a feature and not a bug, that JJ was given a little rope to see if he can create something but then eat the sack and do not risk the INT.

This is the very definition of a "Punting is Winning" strategy and Michigan's staff said "BET!"

I understand what you're…

I understand what you're saying about potential conflicts (though I think such conflicts are largely waivable and, as for agency concerns, attorneys have a duty to the bar above any duty to an employer...yes, I know how that often goes) but you realize that all enrolled students are eligible for legal representation through UMich's Student Legal Services right? Not just for lease disputes and MIP tickets? So the NCAA is actively preventing Michigan athletes from receiving a benefit that any other student can receive.

Tuesdays and Fridays…

Tuesdays and Fridays. Rotating three distinct cut patterns so you don’t wear a pattern into the grass.

Has anyone ever commented on the fact that anyone born between 1967 and 2000 was raised by parents with PTSD who projected that downward on their offspring?…

Yeah, I don’t think we want…

Yeah, I don’t think we want any of the baggage that comes with Andrew Jackson. Best to let him shine elsewhere…

You're telling me this guy…

You're telling me this guy played THREE TIMES as much as Barnes and you're trying to equate the two?!?! How can you possibly draw that sort of comparison?

Sincerely,

Someone on the NCAA staff

Dude… I’m legitimately considering starting a petition to get you a B1G championship ring for the last two years. Your incredibly shitty sacrifice should be rewarded.

Well my wife went to Tulane…

Well my wife went to Tulane and her dad went to Southern Cal so 12/31 is going to be a riot.

It’s true. I had it on good…

It’s true. I had it on good authority that everyone was terrible and Michigan was barely a middle of the pack team in the MAC. Who are you going to believe? Your lying eyes or the hive mind?

Circa 2001-2, we had a squirrel that used to walk in our open front door, hop up on the back of the couch, and watch Sportscenter with us. We never gave him any food, but I'd like to think we nourished his soul with our camaraderie...

Brian Ellerbe. That guy just does not know when to quit.

I, too, am waiting for the…

I, too, am waiting for the extensive front page post of all the players who either refused to sign or bailed because of this. I’ve heard from several posters now that the list is shockingly long and a virtual who’s who of the blue chip recruits.

Pure speculation here: I…

Pure speculation here: I wonder if Petras was ever really ok after Hawkins crushed him. Maybe it just took until halftime-ish for the adrenaline to wear off and the effect to set in.

This might have been an…

This might have been an attempt at humor and, if I missed it, I apologize. But I don’t think Brian “didn’t love Michigan at its worst.” Have you been reading this blog? He loves it so much it broke him. Just like it broke a lot of other people on this message board. Hell, I’ve been a worse human sometimes because I take these sports too seriously. Which reflects poorly on me but I’m willing to bet a lot of people here could stand to look in the mirror a bit too.

Have you seen how people treat each other here? And we’re supposedly a group of people with a common interest. This place is downright vicious and brutal at times. When we’re allegedly on (or on board with) the same team.

So no, this has nothing to do with Brian not loving Michigan at its worst. Whether he takes on the UFR or not, he has decided to keep this space alive for all of us and allowed us all to watch him go through the wood chipper for our entertainment. Celebrate the win or don’t. Be mad that they didn’t win in 2019 or don’t. Be miserable that they might not win again next year or don’t. The choice is yours. But be a better human. Spare us how Brian failed you while you’re typing that on the platform he provides you.

I love what Seth has done…

I love what Seth has done this year, and I will be happy with whatever the MGoBlog staff decides, but I would humbly request that Brian gets these UFRs if he feels up to it.

Ancestors is commonly…

Ancestors is commonly defined as relatives from the past, more distant than grandparents, from whom one is descended. If any of his "ancestors" are at this game, its probably a felony...

I came here specifically…

I came here specifically seeking this comment. Take your +1.

Here’s the true Michigan…

Here’s the true Michigan experience. No matter how good something might turn out, never forget that something horrible was lurking under the surface. I look forward to to winning a championship and seeing the comments about how unlikely it may be to repeat and the talent we might lose so we should probably fire everyone. This is true of all sports.

And usually indoors!

11 punts! Nearly 500 yards! See, look at all these guys that leave Michigan and do WAY better than the guys that stay. Our punters didn't do squat this week. How could we let Hart leave?!?!?

Seriously though, maybe he should check into some NIL action with Icy Hot or someone who makes a copper hip brace or something...

A very apt comparison. From…

A very apt comparison. From the thread title, I could instantly hear both Cole and Jackson in my head. One sounded like college football, the other very much like hockey. And they always will in the soundtrack of my mind.

This is "Eleven Swans"…

This is "Eleven Swans" territory writing. Thank you for giving that event and this team its due.

I'd like to think the text on the team warmup shirts reads "ALWAYS DRIPPING" and it was the greatest inside joke ever...

Great call on the jazz…

Great call on the jazz musicians. George Benson is the real deal. Him, Metheny, Carlton, etc. are among those that would play a line and make you stop in your tracks to make sure you really just heard that.

Just a general “wow” event…

Just a general “wow” event there today. I know Hopkins is down at the moment, but Michigan winning AT Homewood is something all these kids are going to remember. Hopefully it provides a bit of a spark heading toward the conference tournament as well.

Is now when some folks begin…

Is now when some folks begin to realize that Bill Martin didn’t “miss” a call from Les/his agent?

Actually he's not wrong…

Actually he's not wrong. This kid is from Tennessee. LSU is in the Top 10 twice. Once because LSU, and once to piss off Ole Miss. His final 3 hats on the table will be Michigan, LSU, and LSU, the second LSU narrowly edging out UT after they've fired their coach for the third time since this thread...

My mind went there too. My…

My mind went there too. My initial thought was: sorta, yes...

True story: when I was in…

True story: when I was in 4th or 5th grade, I was marked down on a spelling test for writing "theatre" as the answer. This is 100% the fault of CBC since I was pretty much immersed in Hockey Night in Canada and all the corresponding advertising.

And so perhaps I should have written "Grade 4 or 5" above. Such is the drawback of being bilingual...

Yeah, they’re not saying he…

Yeah, they’re not saying he opted out due to Covid19. This is either due to him testing positive or having a traceable exposure...so...not great?

Edit: I realize the above comments are discussing the relative merits of him opting out so maybe my clarification is more for the overall thread. It’s just the origin of this news item isn’t that Stafford opted out...yet.

That was #10 in your…

That was #10 in your programs but #1 your heart, walk on kicker, Troy Nienberg. He was dating a friend of mine at the time. Really nice dude. But that was not a highlight reel moment.

It was the day after my 21st…

It was the day after my 21st birthday. The day prior I had lunch with my parents at Charlie's before they wisely left the area code. I had then spent a long night at Mitch's and finally returned to the house to keep the festivities rolling. It was hot. I had a hangover that could have started a war. Standing for 3 hours that afternoon was a struggle. Then I was physically hit by a soundwave unlike anything I'd ever heard before. Then we went back to the house and tapped the keg before heading to Mitch's...

The collision of images in…

The collision of images in my head which saw Wilford Brimley checking out manscaping was way too much for a Monday morning. Need more warning. The coffee hasn’t fully kicked in yet.

That’s a shockingly rational…

That’s a shockingly rational take. It’s almost as if the guy is deciding between spending a year in college for a job that doesn’t require a degree and traveling abroad for the year for a paid internship in his chosen profession. It’s easy for us to armchair QB this and explain why he’ll be so much better off having to trudge up the stairs of Dennison at 8 in the morning, but he has a legitimate decision to make and both answers could actually be right.

But none of those 349 teams But none of those 349 teams are worse than Villanova, they just didn’t scout them well enough, right?
Not so fast... Not to throw a bucket of ice water on this one, but the lawsuit is being widely misreported in news coverage and there is a single, throwaway paragraph in the 72 page Complaint that relates to MSU. They certainly have their plates full there but this is not on it. Also, the legal theory here is fascinating (not to takeaway from the fact that the underlying actions are despicable). This is not a case directly seeking damages for those who were abused. This is a class action business/contract lawsuit. The broad brush claim here is: the named plaintiff is the mother of a former youth volleyball player coached/trained by Butler who now claims fraud, unjust enrichment, and several statutory claims. The underlying theory is: if he had notified the mother of his earlier criminal deeds, she would not have entered into business with him - i.e. she should not have paid him to coach/train her child. The putative class would be comprised of anyone who paid this guy or his business to coach/train them. Really interesting collateral attack. Especially in an instance where statute of limitations has expired on many of the abuse claims.
