In non-scoring meets they do In non-scoring meets they do not worry what place everyone is coming in. So, everyone is still timed but you don't know which place you came in. Normally you'd get your card and turn it in so they can add up your team points. In cross country you just add up the top 5 finishers from each team to see how many points they have, so lowest score wins. The lowest you can get is 15 (1,2,3,4,5 places). In a non-scoring meet they don't keep track of what place everyone comes in, so even though you have a good idea which teams did well you don't know exactly what each team's score was.
