My son is not THAT good--i'm not sure where you got this from my post. He doesn't have the leverage of being the best player on the team. Bottom line right now: He likes soccer and wants to play. Rec was a disaster and club expects a lot of time to be on the team. Just saying that its not always the parents who are forcing kids to pick one sport.
|4 weeks 2 days ago||I'll chime in||
I don't think you can totally blame the parents for this. My guess is that you are not a parent or have kids in the 10-14 age group playing sports have no experience with this.
My experience with this: My son was not interested in sports until the World Cup in Brazil. Then for whatever reason, he really wanted to play soccer. He was 9. I signed him up for rec soccer and it was terrible. The "coach" we got was a mom who had no experience with soccer--this wasn't really the bad part. The bad part was she didn 't show up for 4 of the 8 games on Saturday mornings. She "overslept" for these games. If you can imagine, this led to many other issues.
To avoid this problem again, my son tried out for club soccer. He made the team. The thing about club soccer--and this is the point I'm getting at--is that THEY require the kid to spend a ton of time playing their sport. They are not flexible with a kid playing mulitple sports. The child has to try out every year, and if your child missed several practices because of other sports, they aren't making the team the next year--unless you have a junior Messi or something.
Speaking to other parents, most wish the club required LESS time from the kids so that kids could have other interests as well. Its not the parents pushing this from my experience.
sorry for spelling and grammar.

Good for them. But remember, slower greens is relative. Other players will also make a run as well.

|8 weeks 2 days ago||The point I'm making is that...||
No U.S. soccer or maybe no soccer player ever was an athlete like Barry Sanders. I'm not saying take Barry from the Lions and have him play on the U.S. team with no soccer experience. That's idiotic. I'm saying that the U.S. sucks at soccer because all of its best athletes, primarily black athletes, don't play soccer at an early age and continue to play it as their only sport.
And I think that's the point that everyone is making but yourself.
|8 weeks 3 days ago||You will know your son is a D1 talent when...||
He's better than every kid his age and better than every--yes, every--kid 1 and 2 years his senior (in his given sport). And this is probably D1 "talent". Not meaning he will be a D1 athlete.
And when I say every kid his age, I mean in the area you live. For example, your kid is best soccer player in Washtenaw County and Metro Detroit for all 14, 15, and 16 year olds.
|8 weeks 3 days ago||ummm...If Barry Sanders||
played soccer, he would be the best ever.

I LOL'd on this site, but the "Waluigi" reference was funny. Well played good sir.

I was a junior, he was a freshman. We had heard that Brighton had a phenom freshman. During the game, some huge kid on Brighton hit a homerun and 2 doubles off the wall. Towards the end of the game, I was like "so which is the freshman?' My coach was like "duh, the kid that is 3-3". The shortstop. The biggest kid on the team. Drew Henson.
I didn't play in the game, but my school played Albert White. He was crazy athletic.

|15 weeks 6 days ago||This is the thing that will get Harbaugh to leave||
and go back to the NFL. Maybe not this year or next year, but this is the thing. He's following the rules, the NCAA steps in and stops it while letting SEC schools just blantantly pay players. I think he'll get fed up and realize that by following the rules you will always be at a disadvantage. And when he feels that there's nothing he can do to level the playing field, he'll get frustrated and move back to the NFL. Of course I hope this doesn't happen.

LSA 2000. It was called "Oceans" in the AOSS department. Not to be confused with "Oceanography" which was kind of hard.
Oceans was a total athlete class. 90% of the students were athletes and the other 10% were people who heard of the class through athletes. Quizzes were attendance quizzes where you wrote your name on a piece of paper and handed it in. There was a special study session before exams that was only told to athletes. A baseball friend of mine told me about it and myself and another non-athlete showed up to it and the GSI was like "who told you about this?". They were just giving the answers to the test. Notes were given to you and you were only expected to listen to and watch slide shows during class.
With that being said, I really enjoyed it. You learned some cool stuff about oceans without the stress of difficult exams or taking notes. Yey!

Especially for basketball. The yellow needs to be less orangy. I like the lighter "maize". I thought the Fab Five had a good color yellow.

gotten any new exercise equipment/space etc? I was there in the late 90s and the student weight rooms were pathetic. I hope some of the school money actually goes back to students.
