i don't think anybody is sure what postion he will play in the pros- special teams certainly, but he still need to work on pass coverage to make it at LB, SS, or Nickel. He really could benefit from an extra year in college that might prolong his career and move up a few spots in the draft, but is it really worth the risk of injury?
|1 day 20 hours ago||I am a little worried,||
I am a little worried, actually. Haven't seen much of FSU. But they do have speed.
Cook will be the best RB we've faced all year, and I believe Francois can run, too. Where Michigan has been less dominant defensively this year is on longer, sustained drives, especially later in the game- that's where they begin to look more ordinary.
I hope Michigan's offense- especially OL and WRs- show up and display that physicality they were talking about. I'd like to see Darboh and Chesson show up big time, fighting for the ball- that's something we haven't seen enough of this year, especially the last month of the season.
Should be a good, challenging game.

?? Notre Dame is about 12 miles from the border if I recall.
You can take the train from Ann Arbor to Niles, MI, and it's practically a cab ride away.

Yeah, but to be fair, unless they've watchd a few of Michigan's games, all the rest of the country knows is about Michigan is, "Really good defense. Solid DL, some CB named Jourdan Lewis who's supposed to be pretty good...and JABRILL PEPPERS!!!"

Do you bask in humidity? Mostly people just sweat. I wouldn't call that basking- but then again, I am not from the south.

In these coaching decisions, I always wonder how much the wife has to do with decisions of staying or where to go. I would say quite a lot.
Recall that Urban Meyer's wife loved their life when he was an assistant at Colorado State and wanted to live there permanently. They has an agreement that she could veto any job offer EXCEPT: Notre Dame, Ohio State...and Michigan.
Maybe Fleck's (new) wife is happy in Kalamazoo. Fleck likes to compete and coaching and I am sure he would like to compete at a "higher level", but maybe he is more into building a program to last and the community,

I expected Cincinnati to have a go at him.
He'd build up their Big XII appeal, and give alumnus Urban some recruiting competition in Ohio.
|5 days 17 hours ago||I doubt the playoff could||
I doubt the playoff could ever go beyond 8. Somebody was going to be left out, and it was bound to Michigan. When we couldn't finish against Iowa and OSU, our fate was sealed.
Wouldn't have minded quite as much if OSU had also been left out, too, though.

I asked Devin Gardner what they thought about the sattelite camps, and they said, "Oh man, i wish we could have done that for spring break, instead of sitting around home doing very little. Harbaugh's really smart doing that stuff."

OK, so he meant a guy who isn't wearing maize colored glasses- objective in the sense of not being subjectively in favor of Michigan, so his observations in our favor carry a bit weight. You know what he meant.

Was at that game. Michigan should have dominated but didn't- had a feeling all game long that it was much closer than it should have been and something might happen. Have never liked depending on the FG kicker at the end. Still, we were really shocked.
|1 week 12 hours ago||Though they might never admit||
Though they might never admit it, in the NFL coaches study how officials (and I believe how individual officials) call holding carefully, so they can go up to the limit. It wouldn't surprise me if Ohio State (and probably Michigan) do the same.
|1 week 13 hours ago||The thing is, if the playoff||
The thing is, if the playoff were 8 teams, I don't know if Michigan gets in either.
With 8 they will give an autobid to the P5 conference winners; probably one to the top ranked G5 conference winners; and two (highest ranked) at-large bids. I can easily imagine a rule against three teams from the same conference.

I would imagine for Purdue and Indiana that would be Illinois and Ohio, especially Chicago and Cincinnati, though they have a lot of higher-profile competition, obviously.

For most of the 2000s, seems like everybody wanted to hire guys from the offensive of side of the ball for HC. Maybe now the pendulum has swung back a bit.

I so very much want Les Miles coaching in the B1G, though preferably in the West division.

Was talking to a decent Buckeye fan at halftime who was saying the same thing- he HATES the alternate uniforms for The Game. He believes it ought to be a rule, a law(!) that they always wear their traditional uniforms and helmets for the game.

Was sent a pic of the T-Shirt of Harbaugh's "by that much" forming the H in OHIO.

|1 week 2 days ago||Immediately after the game||
Immediately after the game ended, that occurred to me, and I was hoping that he would do exactly that, for exactly that reason. Not that he wasn't being totally sincere- I believe he was.
You can bet that Urban Meyer would have done it had the situations been reversed to give his team a better shot at the playoffs.
Kinda sucks that it was necessary in the first place and nowadays you have to game the system that way, but with the current system, that's the way you have to play it.
|1 week 2 days ago||I can see a lot of merit to||
I can see a lot of merit to that, but with one difference: make the first round playoff game the 2nd week (or 3rd) weekend in December, not the first; likewise maybe another week between semi-finals and finals. This would give enough time to work out logistics, etc. for the visitors, and time for players to recover from injuries, as well as a few days off for academics.
It's not necessarily the length of the season in number of weeks that is the problem, it's the wear and tear and travel time away from school.
|1 week 2 days ago||"football conference games are proving meaningless..."||
"football conference games are proving meaningless except to potentially eliminate teams from the playoff conversation."
[I asume you mean conference championship games] For that matter, that's how ESPN and others treat the entire football season. From September onwards, all the conversation is about who can and can't be eliminated.
|1 week 2 days ago||conference division challenge||
Whether you keep conference champions or not, I'd like to see most or all teams a rotating conference division challenge on Week 14 or 15. One year each B1G East team would play a corresponding team from, say, the SEC West Division (#3 vs #3, #4 vs #4, etc.). The next year it would be the PAC-12 North; then the year after that the ACC Atlantic, etc. Home and visitor status would be predetermined, but who fills the visitor slots may not be determined until the end of the the regular conference season.
This would give balanced competition, as well as a better determination of SOS for any playoffs as well as the bowls, etc.

I always thought the ideal conference size was 8- enough to play a round-robin schedule, and several interesting intersectional games.

If any of us still has something to say, it will probably do a lot more good elsewhere. on more national forums rather than just among us Michigan fans anyway.
|1 week 4 days ago||Playing devil's advocate||
OK, playing devil's advocate here-
All conferences rules against criticizing officiating and escalating fines for it, and if you think about it, that makes sense. Harbaugh tells his players to let him worry about the officials, to protect them. Baseball managers do the same.You can understand the conference needing to protect their officials (at least publicly). It is a difficult job, and the fans and players are often hostile. The conference has to have their back. In the long run, protecting them is probably a good thing- you don't want Meyer and other coaches riling up fans and manipulating, politicing, and intimidating officials.
They don't want their dirty laundry aired in public. The players did their job. I assume Manuel is doing his job. Any further conversation and complaints are probably being handled in private.
The fans and the media are another matter, and the more attention can be focused on the numerous calls- not just The Spot, which most of the press seem to shrug their shoulders at- but all the holding penalties not called; the PIs; the false starts that Harbaugh was talking about; whether the penalty for throwing the playsheet was justified and proper.

I see holding that should have been called on #59, #85, and probably #88 as well.
