At a game back in 06 I met a guy who was an AD at a private Ohio high school, and his first move to was to change the school helmet to a winged helmet. I can't remember what school he was in, but obviously a huge Michigan fan in the heart of Ohio. He said people were sending him death threats over it.

|4 weeks 4 days ago||I was at work...||
and a female co-worker was bringing some items into the office and left her car parked in front of the building, doors unlocked. I climbed into the back seat and then called her to tell her she forgot to park her car. She came down stairs, got in the car and I grabbed her from behind the seat. Possibly my best prank ever.
|7 weeks 4 days ago||but...||
is that really a function (or result) of the AD?

I like change and I live in the DC area...it was nice that Michigan played at Maryland on my birthday weekend. I also travel to NY a few times a year so it's nice not having to travel to A2 or some relatively small midwestern town to watch a game. I would love to see the addition of any of the following(realistic or not) Oklahoma, UNC, Duke, UVA, VT, ND, GT or Texas. VT has an awesome stadium and would be a lot of fun to watch Michigan play there at night. UNC-Duke are supposed to be a package deal I think, would love to see them compete in the B1G in basketball every year.
|13 weeks 1 day ago||I mentioned this before||
but there is really a different culture at OSU and UM. It "feels" different on the campuses. Facilities aside, the vibe you get from the people, the attitude around campus...feels at home. COmpare it to a company like Deloitte or ESPN that overwork and underpay their staff, because your reward is having worked for them...opposed to tech companies that have every benefit imaginable. It comes down to preference...which is probably the most diplomatic way of putting it.
|14 weeks 11 hours ago||I agree...||
The only stories we've heard are from de-committed players and their coaches. We have no idea what was told to players and when. Let him earn his paycheck, because he's earned the right to make those choices.
Ultimately, there will never be a shortage of players who desire to play at Michigan, and if the national media continues to write bad articles...so be it. Who are the most hated football teams in America? I'd bet the Patriots and Alabama..they seem to be doing ok despite the public vitriol.
|14 weeks 6 days ago||Yeah this sucks||
because it's on the weekend. And I had tickets to see Tom Papa at the DC Improv on Saturday, which has been rescheduled.
But the grocery stores will be empty by tomorrow night and schools will be closed on Friday, for ALL of next week, because DMV does not do inclement weather well. I expect to work from home until Wed.
I'm about 15 miles (2 hours with traffic) from Downtown DC.

If he hasn't progressed on the field in 2 years, then why should he be offered a spot?
Why waste a scholarship on someone who most likely won't see the field (if what their saying is true)?
|15 weeks 2 days ago||No, it's not a violation.||
No, it's not a violation. Public or not, coaches spend time calling and contacting colleges to get their kids recruited. They don't just use Scout and 247 evals.

Babe Ruth played against fishermen and warehouse workers, and all caucasian players. It is a very legitimate argument to suggest that he wouldn't have been as good against other full-time professional baseball players. You think Ruth could hit 714 home runs on today's MLB pitchers? Seriously?
Even Joe Montana has said he couldn't compete at the same level if he played today because offenses AND defenses are much more complex than when he played. (Also, salary caps - the Dallas and SF teams of the 90's wouldn't happen today)
Being great in your era doesn't make you automatically great in any era. Similarly, there are Academy award winners who won because of a down year for movies. You're assuming the someone who was revolutionary in 1925 would be equally revolutionary in 2015? Or that a physical specimen from 1955 would stand out as much as one from today?
In the 60's NFL offensive linemen were on average 6'3 250. http://www.businessinsider.com/nfl-50s-tim-tebow-would-have-been-an-offensive-lineman-2011-10?op=1
Today that's an average TE or an undersized DE. There is nothing wrong with the game being better, faster, and smarter than it was, and it doesn't take anythign away from former greats if they couldn't compete today.
|16 weeks 11 hours ago||If I were to venture||
a guess..he does what Mike Dantonio does, but with better players. I would think there are 10 coaches who could've won a title with Bama last night. I also think if a handful of coaches were in charge of Clemson, then they could've won as well.
Brian Cook (I'm assuming)
I think Herman, Harbaugh, Kelly, and Meyer could've beat Alabama with Clemson last night. They are some of the best offensive game planners today.
Despite winning, Did anyone feel that Kiffin excelled this year as an OC considering the talent he had?
|16 weeks 1 day ago||Great Offenses are||
2 dimensional, and great defenses are always GREAT against the run, turning the offense 1 dimensional. Great defenses stop the run with a defensive line, and little else, and do no tneed to blitz to pressure the qb. If an offense can't run, and the qb has to drop back and pass 50 times a game...against 6 or 7 in coverage with no balance, how can they be successful?

|18 weeks 5 days ago||They really are different schools||
with different cultures. Everyone will say, they have a family atmosphere, but not all schools have a "friend" atmosphere. Michigan coaches and players used to hang around after practice and talk with each other, shoot the shit...no one in a particular rush to leave. I didn't notice it, but it was pointed out to me by other around me. That is unusual, because even when I played football, after the final whistle, it was a rush to go do something else.
I'll put it like this: If I wanted a more urban (no pun intended) environment, as far as the people I was around, then I would go to OSU. If I wanted a suburban private school type environment, then I would go to UM. One of the things I passed along, is that OSU has more attractive girls...the difference is at Michigan, the same girl has parents who are CEO's. Yes, it's a stereotype but it illustrates the attitude. My family friend who played at M married a girl on the softball team whose dad is the owner of a very profitable business on the west coast.
|18 weeks 6 days ago||Not so fast||
my friend. When you were 18 and a senior in high school, girls are one of the most important things in life. Getting laid by a high school girl and a college girl are different/ Don't underestimate how important it is. Every recruit I have spoken with about visits has talked about the girls.
As far as Hoke, he is a great guy. The first time I spoke with him was when he visited my friend Coach Harris, and was told that I was a big fan. So John called me, and handed Hoke the phone and he talked with me for about 10 minutes. He is everything you would expect. He is the guy you would trust your kid with, because there is no question he cares about what he does. He could succeed in a place like Wisconsin or a Notre Dame. He isn't the kind of recruiter that can outmaneuver guys like Saban, Harbaugh, or Meyer, but with a strong brand behind him, he can pull in a top 20-25 class every year.
Not that my opinion matters, but I agree with him being in over his head. Had he hired a better staff, then things most likely would be different.
|18 weeks 6 days ago||Actually true||
It could be the difference between speaking with dean of a college, and just a professor, or someone else just giving you a run-down of the program. The red carpet gets rolled out for the big time recruits. Other guys don't get as much attention.

London was underperforming at UVA, because he couldn't develop talent. They have 2 5* players on that defense and they are somehow worse than they were coming out of high school.
|19 weeks 1 day ago||I posted a breakdown||
of an OSU visit and a Michigan visit in the past. I have been to Michigan on recruiting visits twice. I have second hand knowledge on visits to Maryland, Indiana, OSU, SoCar, Florida, FSU, Clemson, Tennesee, UVA, VT, UNC, Duke etc.
First, visits during games are not ideal. There isn't enough time for coaches to spend with recruits because of game day. Keep in mind, most games are at noon or 3:30, so the kid will be lucky to talk to the coach more than 5 or 10 minutes pre-game. During the 2012 OSU/UM game, We were allowed to go to the coaches locker room with Urban for about 5 minutes, while the other recruits were eating. Our group also included the #1 player in the country, so that is unusual.
Ideally, unofficial visits take place during spring practice and you follow up with an OV during a game the following fall. It's a good opportunity to see coaches in practice, and talk with other kids and recruits. Hoke and Mattison's wives were always around. so there really was a family atmosphere.
On visits, recurits and parents will tour the campus, including the indoor facilities (M has 2 indoor fields), Schembechler Hall, another building which is a study facility for athletes. They have an M-Pact program which is used to essentially mentor kids about their future. Most senior football players will have 5 more years of football in their life. The ones that get to the NFL will have about 8. The lucky ones will have 15. What is left after that? It's eye opening for many kids who never thought about it like that. They have programs where they can pair current ahtletes with former athletes whether it is career advice or help dealig with situations. Former players actually still use the M-Pact program, including guys in the NFL or who are recently out of the NFL. Another example would be allowing a student-athlete to shadow someone in the career of their choice, to evaluate whether ther would want to pursue that career.
There is ususally a meeting with the dean of the school, that the recruit intends to major. In the evenings, recruits usually go with players and parents will hang out with a coach or other parents.
There is also a tour of the locker room, with jersey's laid out, helmets, etc and other items that recruits are interested in for photo ops. They are allowed to walk through the tunnel and out onto the field as well. VT will allow you to take a picture with anyone jersey that doesn't belong to a current player.
On UV, you must pay for everything. Even meals in the facility will be charged. We paid to eat at the buffett at OSU. (the food was meh) Maryland has a fantastic buffett and a patio on one end of the endzone where recruits can sit and watch the game. On OV, 1 hotel room for parents, and 1 for the player is paid for. Many charges are reimbursed, as opposed to paid for outright. Compliance officers are around the entire time, for example making sure that the recruit comes back to his room at some point for the night if other people are in the room with him (for example a cousin or a teammate on an UV) otherwise it could be a violation.
On day2 of a weekend visit, typically Sunday morning, recruits will meet with position coaches. They will watch film and coaches will generally show how they plan to use a particular player in their system. (For D, Hand, Mattison was showing clips of all the things he did with Terrell Suggs)
What pushes kids over vary obviously. Coaches play a huge role of course, but second to that is how much fun they have with the current players, probably more than how well they get along with other recruits in their class. For the most part, expecially for the top guys there is minimal difference between the big schools. Facilities and perks are all top notch, fans are all excited and crazy.

I'm a Michigan fan and those are the only games I EXPECT to be able to watch. Anything else I watch is a bonus. She doesn't fight much on Sundays, as I usually put Redzone on and she peruses Facebook or something. Otherwise, we will be out and I don't make a big deal, and hope I can check it out at a bar or something.
If we have plans during Michigan games, she is usually understanding as I watch it on my phone.
I used to watch a lot more, but I don't subject her to it, because she's indifferent. I would prefer for her to stay indifferent as opposed to hating it.
|22 weeks 9 hours ago||Similar incident happened at Ohio State||
when I visited with D. Hand. The coaches didn't inform the proper people, and they wouldn't let us drive to the Hayes Center to park. Even after the officers spoke with the coaches, because we didn't already have passes, we weren't allowed in. So we had to park about 2 miles away (Columbus on Michigan gameday), and pay $40 to park in someone's driveway. The weather was about 35 degrees and raining. It was the beginning of the end of his interest in OSU.
|23 weeks 1 day ago||Completely Agree...||
but, what you're failing to realize is that asking other Michigan football fans...on a Michigan football blog...in a board post is the wrong place to ask questions about where to watch Michigan games.
I have posted before looking for out of town bars, and I had a fantastic time in New Orleans at Prytania Bar, with the alumni club, and a fantastic atmosphere, despite Satan's punt.
The thing I have noticed is that people from the cities in question love answering and sharing feedback, but the snark comes from everyone else...I would imagine the people that always watch from their couch, or their bar in the city they never leave.

He's somewhat limited, but he has played for very respected coaches...NFL folks love Ferentz and obviously Harbaugh. If Harbaugh gives him a stamp of approval, then you don't think someone would take him? Is he more limited than Kirk Cousins? I think he is almost exactly Kirk Cousins.
Aside form that, does he evn have NFL aspirations? Would he rather start his medical schooling/career?

But how many players in the NFL are worth a first round pick? I'd be surprised if there were 10. So you trade away parts to build a team full of 2nd/3rd round players over a period of 3/4 years? Assuming that ALL of those guys pan out, you have a competitive team in a few years. Also assuming you find a qb during that time.
|26 weeks 10 hours ago||I concur...||
because rookie defensive ends make an immediate impact...when? I also have a very good friend who is knowledgeable (and in the know) on such things, that Bosa is not expected to be anything more than a serviceable NFL player.
|26 weeks 4 days ago||I don't know about that...||
As a coach...you teach the kids how to play within your offense, and a lot of it is predicated on simplifying things, so you can play faster. If he has too much information, or is busy reading through defenses at the college level (that are set up to p[lay mostly spread teams) then he might not be as successul. On top of that, if he is only running a couple different routes, he has no use to read defenses.
The question arises, does a coach owe it to his school to get the most out of an athlete or does a coach owe it to the athlete to make sure he has the longest career? A college coaches job isn't really based on how successful his guys are in the NFL, only how many wins he has in college right?

I have a cool story bro moment involving Green. So he went to my church when I was growing up and my mom and his wife were friends. I was at his house, I was probably 9 years old, one day playing him in Super Tecmo Bowl...he picked the Raiders, I chose the Skins. He's up 5, last play of the game, he throws a deep pass, I pick it off...with HIM, and house it for the win. I still give him a hard time for not trusting his teammates more!
|30 weeks 6 days ago||I think it's reasonable||
Clearly, I am biased as well...but if an SEC team had a strong defense, with an elite HSP, that you cannot run against...consider that with an average run game, and a moderately decent qb...then you have just about every mid-level SEC team, every year. It's Bama to a tee, Tennessee, SC, Georgia. If Michigan had the same roster, same coaching pedigree, and same schedule but played in the SEC, they might be entered into the conversation at this point.
As Scott Van Pelt would say...how good is your good?

A prep school in VA, we won 3 straight state titles, but private school caveats apply. A lot of our guys got D1 offers, our starting tb/lb got offered by UVA, Tennessee, and Stanford, chose Harvard. Vinny Testaverde went there, Eddie George, (both well before my time) and Chris Perry was a year under me. We also had a qb that I think ended up at Michigan as a back up, Shawn Cassidy I think. Also Carlos Hyde...last count had 17 players on NFL rosters, and Penn State QB Christian Hackenberg.

At some point Michigan will pull out special unis again, and I'm not any more comfortable with Nike's creative team designing them, than Adidas. With Nike, it's possible we could look like every other team on Saturday, just in different colors.

is a good guy. He's certainly a company man. He was an agent before coming back to Michigan to work. He's a point of contact for coaches and escorts players around on their tours. That being said, when I went on tours with Hand, Burrell, and Settle I wasn't impressed necessarily with his presentation. Not because he didn't do a good job, but as a lifelong fan, there are things I would've mentioned or discussed that he seemed to gloss over or ignore. We had been there the entire day, and I told Coach Hoke and Chris that we hadn't heard the fight song the entire time we were there. (Devin Gardner was in the room, and was forced to sing...and he has a great voice btw, a deep, classic musical talent that was reminiscent of....I digress)
Chris is a good guy, but I don't think he was a difference maker.

with conference pride being bullshit, however i think Kentucky taking pride in Alabama/LSU dominance is different than hoping one of your conference-mates don't shit the bed on a national scale. The perception of the B1G is already low, and if Ohio would've got smoked by Bama, then it does hurt all of us. When ranking come out next year, Big Ten teams are moved down a notch or two because they are in the B1G, not because they deserve it.

|1 year 13 weeks ago||I think there's truth to this||
There are certain things that are inherent, for example higher income genereally equals college graduates. Staistically you are more likely to go/complete college if your parents are college graduates.
There are other reasons for this. Low income areas have poorly funded educational systems, so it can be difficult to overcome, while learning good test-taking and study skills. "Poor" schools in Washington DC, or Detroit...are different than "poor" schools in suburbia. There isn't a culture of success. It's the same as a football team, part of succeeding and exceling is shedding the culture of failure.
I can see how there could be some resentment for college kids who are going to school with rich kids. At University of Richmond, the student parking ot has better cars than the faculty lot. It CAN (not necessarily does) cause a divide. If you have to work to have extra money while in school, or work during the breaks, you don't have the same experiences as those who don't have to. And people tend to gravitate towards those who share their experiences.

and as a kid, why would you not want to have that opportunity? I was closely involved with Hand's recruitment, and I went to his announcement, and the entire school was involved. The seniors and the football team all got out of class to attend, and the administrators took an opportunity to speak as well. It isn't just about the player, but the school, coaches, teachers, and students who were a part of his high school career. As a high school football coach, wouldn't you want a nationally ranked recruit to announce publicly? Even as that kid's parents, it's exciting and fun, and I don't belive it necessarily makes him a diva.

explain to me how a 20 year old can "develop" the brand of a $100 million dollar a year, hundred year old athletic program?
|1 year 16 weeks ago||Yeah...||
your points are all valid, but logistically it couldn't work. As the previous poster said, people watch the teams, not the players. So in all fairness, if the player can make money on their own, without using their affiliation to the university, than so be it. Meaning autographs are fine, as long as there is no school/conference/NCAA logo on it. Sounds ridiculous, but it shows, that the individual without the school is not marketable. The school has all the leverage, and that's ok. As someone still paying student loans off, I would love an opportunity to go to school free, regardless of the infringement upon my time. Not only going to school free, but also having an opportunity to showcase my talents to my future employers, as well as have several programs in place in case I decide or am forced to change careers. Not taking advantage or appreciating of that isn't the fault of the university. It almost sounds like you want things to be "fair." And if it's fairness you seek, is it fair that the qb would be able to generate more income than the kicker? Or center? or the right tackle? Is it fair that in paying football players, the lacrosse program is cancelled?
Keep in mind, you'll be a Michigan fan, regardless of who wears the helmet. The players aren't capitalizing on themselves, they would be capitalizing on their affiliation with the university.
Ultimately it's a choice. You want this opportunity to be not only be afforded to particular individuals, but you want it to be afforded to them in a way you think is "fair" as in a college education isn't valued as "compensation." Maybe the fact that only 28% of the US (over age 25) has a college degree contributes to the lack of importance placed on a college degree in our society.

Hackenberg will be a first rounder, Shane has the all important arm strength. But Notre Dame isn't sending them to the league like they used to either. #3 on a ND qb was like #1 at Michigan. Notice there are no Bama, OSU, LSU, or Oregon qbs starting. College dominance means nothing.

is am embarrassment to football, but they do this once a year around this time.
|1 year 34 weeks ago||Same dilemma||
I think it is better for Michigan if MSU wins, but only if Michigan beats them. I am torn, I feel dirty rooting for MSU, ND, or OSU. I kind of want MSU to get embarassed honestly. If Michigan were to get a playoff bid, they would have to go undefeated and that would give an advantage over a 1 loss team from another conference.

...I think he is a better fit, than he is a coach. Not to say he is a bad coach, but he's a great fit. NW seems a bit closer to Duke, than Stanford from a football standpoint, and I doubt any prolonged success is a reality at this time.

If for no other reason, than his punt return vs Ohio.
Returning SR QB, All conference WR, 1(?) starter lost on the defense, OSU lost their starting qb, ND lost 4 very good players and gets Golston after having a year away from the game. If Michigan goes injury free this year, and gets a couple bounces then anything can happen.
I'm almost(ed-not at all) positive that's what he was thinking as he analyzed his selection deeply and thoroughly.

I didn't feel like he was contributing as much as his predecessors. And speaking with some players he interviewed, he din't particularly leave a lasting impression. I enjoy and appreciate the work that was done, but I think the people who previously held his position were a bit more dynamic, and he wasn't around long enough to meet the standard.

he got guaranteed admission into their engineering school which UM couldn't offer. He never spoke with anyone from engineering at Michigan because he was interested in the sports management program when he visited, so he never got the engineering pitch. Essentially he was choosing a major as much as he was choosing a school. The losing didn't help obviously, but he watched 1 Michigan game and 1 Alabama game all year and those were on his visits. He isn't a college football fan, which is understandable. Saturday was his day to get away from football. It was very close between the two and there were plenty of family members close to him who expected him to choose Michigan.

coaches. We went out to eat when he came to recruit Dashawn and he is a really likeable guy who's young and down to earth and relates to these younger players on an entirely different level.
|2 years 9 weeks ago||I have debated this||
With friends the last few months. I figured you couldn't bench a player with a Legends jersey right? That's the kind of PR that DB would lose sleep over. But will a new offense even the playing field? Devin knows just as much about this offense as Speight and Morris, which takes away his biggest advantage over the other two. Then it seems to be a question of talent and decision-making. We all had moments last season where Devin would cycle around in the pocket and the we would yell at the screen "stop f---ing doing that!" If someone else is more willing to throw the ball away and take fewer risks, will they have an advantage? Not guessing, just curious, think Russell Wilson. All that being said, my original point stands, I couldn't see having the reincarnated Tom Harmon jersey wearer not starting.
|2 years 9 weeks ago||As something purely hypothetical,||
I think they are fun, I don't understand why everyone has to be so negative. If they are worn on Saturdays, then fuss, but can't everyone just be less serious?

There aren't coaches or playing situations where you live that you wouldn't prefer for your child? You aren't prioritizing athletics over education unless the education at the new school is worse. A number of times, being around Dashawn, Tim Settle, and Matt Burrell. I would have michigan on the list being a fan, but the rest of the list would be the usual suspects. It also depends on my position as well and the depth chart. I'd be a wr/cb so I'd consider fsu, Bama, lsu for cb and Michigan, fsu, USC, Clemson, and Oklahoma
|2 years 16 weeks ago||I don't get||
Why anyone is complaining about his salary. It's not like anyone here is paying it. Nothing you buy is going to his salary anyways. I'd be happy if UM paid top dollar for all of it's coaches as long as they win and maintain a good reputation.
|2 years 18 weeks ago||Yes he does. When I visited||
Yes he does. When I visited with Hand, Wellman talked about it. Not because of upper body though. His legs are powerful and it takes too long to change the plates for his reps when he lifts with the wrs. So he lifts with the OL
|2 years 20 weeks ago||I agree with that||
I tend to root for prominent Michigan players, Raiders and Packers because of Woodson, Dolphins with Henne, watching the Jags because of Denard. I don't have a favorite NFL team however, so I tend to just not root for individual players. It does make me smile though when I keep hearing Gholston referred to as a bust.

Stand up DE in a 3-4 is essentially an OLB, meaning coverage responsibility. He's talented enough, but he's a pass rush specialist, who's never lost a 1 on 1 in a camp, even as a soph vs BCS level OL prospects. It's still a position switch.
|2 years 24 weeks ago||Important to note||

|2 years 32 weeks ago||Umm||
Free market would probably look at how replaceable you are as well as how much revenue you generate. Michigan football generates money, not the players individually. Can you name 10 USC football players? How about Texas? If people who aren't fans don't know them, then they don't generate real revenue.
|2 years 32 weeks ago||The flaw in this||
Is that you feel like there is a "market" value for these players. In many cases, their true market value is less than what they are getting in tuition, room, and board. What's the value of a Richard Ash? More than $85k a year? Not likely. If you base it off of jersey sales, then there are only 4 or 5 players with any value. Ask yourself this...which players have made you MORE of a Michigan fan? Who's jersey did you have to have that you wouldn't have purchased anyways? Do you check mgo more because of Devin? Do you go to more games when Jake Ryan is back? No..they have no real Value because college fans support regardless of who's on the team and who isn't.

similar sentiments. This year the inexperience is on the inside, next year, the same things will be said about breaking in new guys on the outside. Wouldn't 2015 figure to be THE year? I guess then the question mark will be a first time stater, Jr QB Morris and whether or not he can "handle" being the guy.
|2 years 38 weeks ago||True, but||
GT and Clemson...both are with a 6/7 hour drive to the 757 area(Michigan is about 12) and Chicago didn't come out of his pocket. Insulting or not, it's the case for a lot of kids. As an apparent UVA fan, I understand you taking offense to this, but it's not about the school, it's about locale. Look at how often Ferns, Morris, Harris et al are on campus. Guys that are further away? Peppers? Hand? Once each. Speight goes to private school and his family is doing well. There is a reason most kids don't leave their areas. It is financially feasible to visit early and often. I've lived in VA for 26 years so I'm a little familiar with the state. Maybe you follow recruiting or are a coach, so I don't discount your info.
Just about everyone I hang out with coaches high school ball in VA. So I have heard different stories than you have. Brown has never been a fan of the process, combined with the desire to end it early, so his UVA commit was no surprise to anyone. He never cared for any of it, and neither did his dad once the coaches were allowed to call the house. Once again, I will give you the disclaimer: This is meaning no offense to your school, it's just how the chips fell. Even being a UVA fan, with all the hype about London going around, you know AB can go anywhere, yet he chooses to go to a school with a head coach (who I personally think is fantastic for the program) but is likely to get fired sometime during Brown's UVA career, and is a solid 2nd in the state. I think the entire state would do well to have both programs be good, because there is an immense amount of talent, and the level of high school coaching is improving.
And as of right now, Settle is coming with Da'Shawn (and possibly a 2015 OL) to the UTL II game...per the guy driving.
|2 years 38 weeks ago||His interest||
In state schools is due to his lack of opportunity to get to other schools. It's very expensive to take unofficials. A weekend in Michigan was well over $1K. That's driving, renting a car, hotel, food, gas etc. Unless you have a coach who's willing to take his personal time or a parent with free time and money...and the ability to take time off of work, then your opportunities are limited to where you can get to and back home in a day. Andrew Brown falls under that group too, committed to UVA and didn't visit any other of the big schools recruiting him. Settle went to Ohio with Hand for a camp, but hasn't seen any other major programs.
|2 years 39 weeks ago||Lmao||

On my visit to Ann Arbor we got to hang out a bit, and he swung through the Northern Va area to see D. Hand a couple months ago, and I met up with him and John Harris and grabbed a bite to eat. I won't discuss the topics, but he was very candid and open, seeing as we are all the same age and just hanging out. He loves the program, he loves the kids, he loves the coaching staff. He's a fantastic guy and just another one of the guys on the staff that you wouldn't want replaced by anyone

it's ability. He's a 5* corner for a reason, so I'm thinking from the way they play the game, they are similar...and both elite. Even getting another inch out of him, he could/will easily put on 15 lbs so a 5'11 185-190lb boundary corner and Peppers at field. I know I'm excited about that possibility..imagine how appealing it is to him? What college level qb could throw against them?

|2 years 49 weeks ago||Brown & UVA||
Brown has family members and coaches who went to UVA and they have been pushing him in that direction. He is definitely not going to VT and his mom wants him close, but he isn't in love with UVA. They are the school that has gone after him most often, and many people in his life (that he doesn't wanna dissappoint) have been pushing him, so he's entertained them. He made a comment that Hand's visit made him take a look at Michigan..plus they have camped together for years. Michigan with a great visit (as expected) will jump to the front fo the line. Brown doesn't like the spotlight and is looking to end his recruitment soon
|2 years 50 weeks ago||I think||
this is good because everyone wants Morris to get a redshirt, but he isn't the last fantastic qb that will come to AA. I live in VA, and I know coaches around the state, and Speight is legit, So is it the end of the world is Morris backs up for 2 years, and starts for 2? with Speight starting the 2 after that. and the next qb that comes gets his 2 years after that?
|2 years 50 weeks ago||Well...||
I don't like the idea that luck plays a part. Every team needs some luck, a bad call, or a lucky break to go undefeated. Michigan went 11-2 with at least 3 wins that could easily have gone the other way, (Ohio, VT, ND) and an exceptionally high and not reproducable turnover rate. That being said...although i think Kelly is a very good coach, I am not sold on ND being able to maintain, after losing some of the guys they lost. And don't forget the DE that was very highly rated as a frosh last year who left the program as well. They don't have the skill position players, and last year Denard was unable to take advantage of a secondary worthy of Michigan 2009. I expect them to have a good year, but with only 8 or 9 wins..and a huge victory vs Sparty!
|2 years 50 weeks ago||you aren't alone!||

I know the whole "school" thing isn't popular, but a masters from Michigan while getting spot duty is not a bad idea at all. He may be realistic about his NFL future and a Michigna degree is..well..a Michigan degree. Even Jordan Kovacs was conflicted about his NFL future because he was accepted into an excellent grad program on campus, and was advised to pursue school over the NFL, because he would've made a lot more money long term staying at school.

misconception that the value is in the players, the value is with the university. One can function without the other. Certain players elevate the visibility of schools, but is Trey Burke NPOY had he gone to Penn State? There are very few exceptions, but you have to wonder, does Tim Tebow have a similar following at Florida State or Miami? College athletic fans root for players of the their favorite school, not the other way around. How many players do you root for that decided not to go to Michigan?

to agree with you, especially as a Michigan fan. Being one of the "haves" it's easy to feel that way. But because only 20-25 NCAA athletic departments turned a profit last year, (some notables who didn't include FSU who borrowed money from the school to balance the budget and UVA, and we've heard about Maryland's troubles causing their transition) that could essentially create 20 or so teams that are able to pay, well, and and 95 teams that cannot.
|2 years 51 weeks ago||Hand's visit||
is no surprise. His (new) head coach played at Auburn, and was a GA there for awhile. His head coach doesn't have the influence necessarily that some of his position coaches and coordinators have who have been there awhile.

I was with D Hand on his visit and the academic team is superb. They were honest, and told him that if he's lucky, he'll play another 15 years of football and that's it. They focus on time management and they do a lot getting the athletes out to spend time with alumni who work in their desired field until they find something they truly enjoy. I asked the lady about early draftees for example and she says she works with everyone, whether they leave early, and even guys that transfer. She mentioned recently helping a former player whose NFL career was not working out, and I suspect it's Brandon Graham.

but with the coaching staff, it's evident that this defense is about scheme and not personnel. How many of these guys would've been projected to contribute to a top 20 defense for 2 consecutive years? The scheme wins. |3 years 5 weeks ago||I can tell you||
I went with a top 5 2014 prospect to both Ohio and Michigan for a visit. He hated Ohio because the players were indifferent to him being there, it was also the morning of the Game. They were unorganized and the coaches didn't have much time to give him. He actually slept during the 2nd half, and had such a forgettable time hanging with the players that "pulling an OSU" is now a thing. When he went to Michigan, Singletary met us at the door, walked with us everywhere, for the entire weekend. Coaches sat with him individually, he got to sit in on meetings, privte video sessions, 1 on 1 time and CONSTANT contact. He even knew a few of the current players from the camp circuit and Twitter and after practice they were chatting it up. He hung out with them that night and he was all smiles. Like Ace said...it's all about attention and friendships.
|3 years 5 weeks ago||Do you think||
that everyone views them as a bunch of cheaters? You may be a little too immersed in your fandom. Around Michigan fans, that may be the case, but the casual basketball fan (which are a majority of the fans) view them as a cultural phenomenon. They loved the innovation and the change they brought to the game...bucking the system and a case could be made for them being the most culturally significant TEAM in the history of their sport, if not any sport. Has any other team, altered the culture...the uniforms...the "swagger" of their game more? Perhaps...perhaps not. That's what most people see...they don't even know who Ed Martin is, all they know is someone cheated and the banners came down. But in the realm of what they accomplished, that's Jordan's gambling problem vs his greatness.
As far as acknowledging the racism, I agree that it doesn't have any place here. This isn't the first black ball players EVER, fighting a civil rights battle. I don't believe you acknowledge that part of the game. Celebrate the positives, and keep it simple.

His visit was very positive. He knows a few guys from the camp circuit and Ferns came up just to meet him. He spent a good deal of time with the players, and a lot of 1 on 1 time with the coaches. The sports marketing program really piqued his interest, and the academic side was I prestige as well. He knew almost nothing about the program before visiting, so it was very enlightening.
