1st off this is fantastic!

2nd.  Am I the only one that wants a UM onesie from 1930?  LOL

1 day 13 hours ago Wow

I love it! That's pretty hot

3 days 1 hour ago Brown & UVA

Brown has family members and coaches who went to UVA and they have been pushing him in that direction.  He is definitely not going to VT and his mom wants him close, but he isn't in love with UVA.  They are the school that has gone after him most often, and many people in his life (that he doesn't wanna dissappoint) have been pushing him, so he's entertained them.  He made a comment that Hand's visit made him take a look at Michigan..plus they have camped together for years.  Michigan with a great visit (as expected) will jump to the front fo the line.  Brown doesn't like the spotlight and is looking to end his recruitment soon

6 days 4 hours ago I think

this is good because everyone wants Morris to get a redshirt, but he isn't the last fantastic qb that will come to AA.  I live in VA, and I know coaches around the state, and Speight is legit, So is it the end of the world is Morris backs up for 2 years, and starts for 2?  with Speight starting the 2 after that. and the next qb that comes gets his 2 years after that?

6 days 4 hours ago Well...

I don't like the idea that luck plays a part.  Every team needs some luck, a bad call, or a lucky break to go undefeated.  Michigan went 11-2 with at least 3 wins that could easily have gone the other way, (Ohio, VT, ND)  and an exceptionally high and not reproducable turnover rate.  That being said...although i think Kelly is a very good coach, I am not sold on ND being able to maintain, after losing some of the guys they lost.  And don't forget the DE that was very highly rated as a frosh last year who left the program as well.  They don't have the skill position players, and last year Denard was unable to take advantage of a secondary worthy of Michigan 2009.  I expect them to have a good year, but with only 8 or 9 wins..and a huge victory vs Sparty!

6 days 22 hours ago you aren't alone!

I wouldn't mind so much either.  I liek the changes, as long as they are one-off changes.  A different uniform for some (not all) big games and bowl games is fun

1 week 2 hours ago I agree...

Greeny plays the nerd role too much, and Golic is a meathead.  some days I give it about 5 minutes then I turn to pandora or NFL network

1 week 5 days ago Fantastic point

I agree...perception is reality and ESPN/SEC gets rolling on tv, people will take their words as fact

1 week 5 days ago From what

I've heard...Brown is keeping things quiet, but plans on visiting and has serious interest. He also camps with Hand often and the two have quite the rapport

1 week 6 days ago lol

after reading this, do you wonder if his twitter was ACTUALLY verified?

I mean, he needs his own section in Twitterverse right before Conseco

1 week 6 days ago Well..

I know the whole "school" thing isn't popular, but a masters  from Michigan while getting spot duty is not a bad idea at all.  He may be realistic about his NFL future and a Michigna degree is..well..a Michigan degree.  Even Jordan Kovacs was conflicted about his NFL future because he was accepted into an excellent grad program on campus, and was advised to pursue school over the NFL, because he would've made a lot more money long term staying at school.

1 week 6 days ago Lane

is a great place to watch a game.  It's unreal how that place lights up.

What's the over/under on whether Beamer will still be coaching then?  I have him doing a Paterno and "coaching" until the end

2 weeks 5 hours ago this is more than

LOL....its closer to LOLWUT?  I guess it would help with an explanation...as in is everyone else just going to be worse? Or do they actually think MSU will be that good?  Better than Nebraska?  Michigan?

2 weeks 1 day ago There is a

misconception that the value is in the players, the value is with the university. One can function without the other.  Certain players elevate the visibility of schools, but is Trey Burke NPOY had he gone to Penn State? There are very few exceptions, but you have to wonder, does Tim Tebow have a similar following at Florida State or Miami?  College athletic fans root for players of the their favorite school, not the other way around.  How many players do you root for that decided not to go to Michigan?

2 weeks 1 day ago That's a good start

I expect for that to increase as the year progresses and he gets more comfortable in the offense...but that was about what Reggie Bush got his first couple seasons

2 weeks 2 days ago Is it just me...

or does it seem like Meyer isn't getting the great guys that everyone in Ohio seems to think he's getting?  I see a few 5 stars, but specifically the OL/WR recruiting leaves much to be desired

2 weeks 2 days ago This

needs to be on Lettermans Top Ten list...things Phil Jackson would rather do than anything involving the Pistons.

2 weeks 2 days ago I'm inclined

to agree with you, especially as a Michigan fan.  Being one of the "haves" it's easy to feel that way.  But because only 20-25 NCAA athletic departments turned a profit last year, (some notables who didn't include FSU who borrowed money from the school to balance the budget and UVA, and we've heard about Maryland's troubles causing their transition) that could essentially create 20 or so teams that are able to pay, well, and and 95 teams that cannot.

2 weeks 2 days ago Hand's visit

is no surprise.  His (new) head coach played at Auburn, and was a GA there for awhile.  His head coach doesn't have the influence necessarily that some of his position coaches and coordinators have who have been there awhile.

2 weeks 3 days ago Then

You must not have been on this blog very long.

2 weeks 4 days ago It's not wasted money

I was with D Hand on his visit and the academic team is superb. They were honest, and told him that if he's lucky, he'll play another 15 years of football and that's it. They focus on time management and they do a lot getting the athletes out to spend time with alumni who work in their desired field until they find something they truly enjoy. I asked the lady about early draftees for example and she says she works with everyone, whether they leave early, and even guys that transfer. She mentioned recently helping a former player whose NFL career was not working out, and I suspect it's Brandon Graham.

2 weeks 5 days ago Agreed

Style is most important...Reggie Bush was ideal in his role at USC...and can that holing ball back be as effective catching passes

2 weeks 5 days ago Ha!

I usually read the board before the front page

Mods feel free to delete

2 weeks 5 days ago i dont

know if any of the guys have met him, but he is the coolest coach I have ever been around.  Not what you'd expect

2 weeks 5 days ago been to a few

Sitting with the players parents is cool, right off the 50, home side, 13 rows back is fantastic, but the parents dont necessarily cheer as much as other sections do

2 weeks 5 days ago makes sense

but with the coaching staff, it's evident that this defense is about scheme and not personnel.  How many of these guys would've been projected to contribute to a top 20 defense for 2 consecutive years?  The scheme wins.  Also, you have to take into account guys like Frank Clark, Countess being a HUGE upgrade over Floyd, and the possibility of having an actual pass rush this season

2 weeks 5 days ago I'd say

the commenters

2 weeks 5 days ago really?

loaded?  With that OL?  Have you read the reports about that super hyped DL in the spring game?  and they lost Hankins and Simon?  I think Michigan is better on both lines and at worst the game is a toss up.

3 weeks 1 day ago Sounds

3 weeks 5 days ago Lmao...between that watching for Denard in the draft

Phone is long dead

3 weeks 5 days ago According to Roy Manning

They couldn't be more different guys, both very good coaches, but differing philosophies as an employer

3 weeks 5 days ago Lol

Quite true..too bad that's what sticks out about him to most fans.

3 weeks 6 days ago Manning

Met Roy during Hand's visit, and kicked it with him after he saw Deberry. He's fantastic for this staff, he's enthusiastic, loves the school obviously...but he's a real dude! He's going to be a difference maker

3 weeks 6 days ago Yeah, I think he's confused

About that...completely

4 weeks 6 days ago He's been to AA once,

And VT a few times, and they are essentially even. That's much better for Michigan, than VT IMHO.

6 weeks 6 days ago I think

Burke winning this award will be about as surprising as Auburn being hit with allegations.

8 weeks 5 hours ago I can tell you

I went with a top 5 2014 prospect to both Ohio and Michigan for a visit.  He hated Ohio because the players were indifferent to him being there, it was also the morning of the Game.  They were unorganized and the coaches didn't have much time to give him.  He actually slept during the 2nd half, and had such a forgettable time hanging with the players that "pulling an OSU" is now a thing.  When he went to Michigan, Singletary met us at the door, walked with us everywhere, for the entire weekend.  Coaches sat with him individually, he got to sit in on meetings, privte video sessions, 1 on 1 time and CONSTANT contact.  He even knew a few of the current players from the camp circuit and Twitter and after practice they were chatting it up.  He hung out with them that night and he was all smiles.  Like Ace said...it's all about attention and friendships.

8 weeks 1 day ago Do you think

that everyone views them as a bunch of cheaters?  You may be a little too immersed in your fandom. Around Michigan fans, that may be the case, but the casual basketball fan (which are a majority of the fans) view them as a cultural phenomenon.  They loved the innovation and the change they brought to the game...bucking the system and a case could be made for them being the most culturally significant TEAM in the history of their sport, if not any sport.  Has any other team, altered the culture...the uniforms...the "swagger" of their game more?  Perhaps...perhaps not.  That's what most people see...they don't even know who Ed Martin is, all they know is someone cheated and the banners came down.  But in the realm of what they accomplished, that's Jordan's gambling problem vs his greatness.

As far as acknowledging the racism, I agree that it doesn't have any place here.  This isn't the first black ball players EVER, fighting a civil rights battle.  I don't believe you acknowledge that part of the game.  Celebrate the positives, and keep it simple.

8 weeks 1 day ago I was on campus last week

In Glick on a Sunday, and Dymonte was in there with another guy (Douglas I think). Getting reps and running though drills. No coaches, no seniors, just the two of them. I love their mindset already

8 weeks 2 days ago If I could

8 weeks 2 days ago Who?

My memory and therapist say that I have never heard of that school.

8 weeks 2 days ago if i could embed

I would put up a video of Stewie...going OMG! OMG! OMG! and clapping furiously.  Thats what I did when I met Brady Hoke and Mattison last week.  They understood completely.  It was not awkward. At All.

9 weeks 3 days ago Visit

His visit was very positive. He knows a few guys from the camp circuit and Ferns came up just to meet him. He spent a good deal of time with the players, and a lot of 1 on 1 time with the coaches. The sports marketing program really piqued his interest, and the academic side was I prestige as well. He knew almost nothing about the program before visiting, so it was very enlightening. He was also thrilled to meet and talk with Denard.

10 weeks 5 days ago Man on fire

11 weeks 1 day ago I was

Thinking the same.

11 weeks 2 days ago Not

A Midwest trip, it's specifically a Michigan trip. The weather probably won't matter. He visited Columbus for the game, cold wasn't a factor there. He'll likely spend time with the players and the staff and catch the start of spring ball that Saturday. His dad may be with him as well

2. I'm not, but not opposed to it.

3. No I havent, at least not knowingly, but the NCAA 12/13 dynasty started on here and the guys from there are great.  We've had our dynasty going for 9 or so months now and are all planning to go to meet up at a game this year and tailgate.

4.  Ham...hospital across the street has a grill man that does wonders with it!

Happy Weekending everyone!

13 weeks 2 days ago How

can you not love that last picture?  especially understanding the moment.  Classic

15 weeks 6 days ago GR3

is more solidly built as well.  Certainly more athletic, and fluid.  Mentally THJ is ahead, because of age and experience.

And in baskeball, it's not always putting the best 5 on the floor at once.  Speaking of upside, Mcgary has more than Morgan, but MM brings energy off the bench that is very key to maintaining a lead or invigorating a sluggish start.

16 weeks 1 day ago The value of a college

The value of a college athlete is not what you think. There are very few that have any real monetary value and even fewer worth their scholarship. Even if you go go off the promise your value is determined by how easily you are replaced, then in the last 10 years you are looking at very few transcendent players, Tebow, Reggie Bush...Vince Young even. But there are 115 other guys who aren't worth that.

Looking at the financials, thinking that paying players is financially possible is absurd. Michigan fans are spoiled because we are always one of the money makers. Schools like FSU and UVA for example borrow money to balance their athletic budget.

If players are paid, hypothetically and lets say given a check for the value of their scholarship, how many would pan out? These college athletes are interns in a sense getting unprecedented amounts of job exposure to a potential career, while also being educated (if they choose) for another career.

16 weeks 5 days ago I agree

With you. Wealthy family, strong parental figures, plus he's not quite prepared physically or mentally for the league. He won't be projected highly, but next season could be the number 1 offensive option for the defending champs...likely a lottery pick if he progresses as expected

16 weeks 5 days ago I completely agree

And have thought so since day 1. I don't think you can assume he would've gotten into the same trouble in Ann Arbor...

16 weeks 6 days ago Yep

Think of Reggie Bush...not much bigger, was too slight to run between the tackles, few years in, he played slot, returner, and some tb and is now a solid starter. Denard has better vision running between the tackles than Bush when he came out and is more patient

16 weeks 6 days ago They are skeptical

About his size. One of those traditional beliefs that will never die. A back weighing less than 200 lbs is like picking a qb that's under 6'3. There is an over-reliance on numbers, some justified, some not.

16 weeks 6 days ago Just downloaded

Congrats on the release!

16 weeks 6 days ago While I appreciate

The confidence that Michigan isn't having home games away from Ann Arbor, I probably wouldn't wager anything of value on it. I could see Brandon doing something like this in major markets. DC, NYC, Ford...not agreeing with it, but won't be surprised when it happens.

17 weeks 5 days ago I have to agree

The league is trending back to the big two, and the recruiting ranking show that distinctly. It's not good for the league to have the second best team finish third in the conference, behind the ccg loser. And no other pair of schools is the same draw as Ohio and Michigan. There is no other matchup combination that remotely interests anyone nationally. I think having one of these teams in competition every year hurts the brand

18 weeks 6 days ago well...

I watched a few of his games this year, seeing that I live in Richmond, VA.  Many of the guys who have been around the city their entire lives aren't that impressed with him, but some of that may just be coming from all of the hype that he's been getting.  They have a very stacked high school team considering the area, yet he was really the only option they had.  Their coaches aren't very good at playcalling (think Mike DeBord) so their offense consists of 1st down: Green right.  2nd down: Green left.  He has an offensive line that is dominant in the league as well which always helps the run game.  IIRC he had one terrible game and it was the only team that keyed on him the entire game successfully, and had the talent to do so.  He ran for something like 70 yards.  The people in the area who follow (ie the grown men who go to all of their alma maters HS games) say he isn't very fast and doesn't have a lot of wiggle, but is a tough runner between the tackles.  TBH that's what I've seen while watching his tape, so I am a little more excited about Smith.

19 weeks 13 hours ago By ND?

I agree ND will not duplicate luck, but teams get lucky bounces every year. As an obvious skeptic did you expect 11-2 last season? 9-3 is decent, however there just aren't enough teams more talented on the schedule to warrant 3 losses. Everyone seems to be mixing the idea of beating obviously bad teams, and winning MAYBE 3 challenging games. That's more than enough reason to see 12-0 as a real possibility. ND loses key defensive players, returns a shaky qb, and possibly loses a coach. Ohio is legitimately a toss up, and Nebraska at home favors Michigan. Sparty will have no offensive weapons or offensive line. I understand managing expectations, but Michigan might not be a dog in any games next season

19 weeks 1 day ago Great kid

Took him to Columbus for the Game, I was the only yellow shirt in the parents section. Him and another recruit were very meh about their visit. They were obviously preoccupied with the game and seemingly unorganized getting us into the Hayes Center. He's a monster, a friend of mine is his DC and this kid lives in the gym, is very intelligent, and is seeing the game and the recruiting process very well. He has great people around him and Michigan has a great chance. He's been to VT, UNC, and Bama as well as Ohio and Michigan still made his top 5. There is a very real chance that he chooses Michigan and their shot is as good as any of the other 4 at this point.

21 weeks 6 days ago Oregon

had a great court too last year but i think they got rid of it.  it had the forest and it was like looking up through the trees.

The new Crisler is nothing to sneeze at either

now all it's missing are #'s everywhere

21 weeks 6 days ago It's hard

to be innovative and care what the public thinks.  If DB were to take the Michigan fan base into account, nothing about Michigan would ever change.  They don't care what WE think, we're already fans, read the blogs, buy the shit....they want thise who aren't fans to start buying the shit, going to games etc

21 weeks 6 days ago I dont think

he has done anything agregious just yet.  Some people don't like them, and i think there are plenty who do, may not speak up for fear or attack on here.  He's marketing the school like it's a business, in a more progressive way.  It seems liek the old marketing ploy was "its Michigan fergodsakes, that's all that needs to be said."  and that may be true for those who already love Michigan, but it's not bad to bring in newer younger fans who may have nothing to do with the school or state.  I know a number of people who are my age (32) and became Michigan fans because of the Fab Five.  They weren't very "Michigan" at the time either.  Maybe we should ave judgement for the long run and see how this turns out.

21 weeks 6 days ago and...

what;s your 40 time?  might you be 6'2 225 and a 4* recruit?  i think that would make your opinion matter more

23 weeks 15 sec ago and whats worse...

is that I was in Columbus for this years game and they CHEERED him.  I was trying to remind people that had he not done what he had, they would be playing for a shot at the title game smh

23 weeks 3 min ago i think he means...

athletically.  The schools you named are more niche than mainstream.  You are dealing with as many people under 30 as you are over it.  Do you think many people outside of the midwest have ever heard of Wayne State?  I live in Virginia and I have yet to meet anyone who knows that UD is an actual school.  W&M is nowhere near an urban area btw.  I think you bring up good exceptions, but you seem to be basing you disagreement on the exception rather than the rule.  Generally speaking, I would agree with Herm.

23 weeks 13 min ago Does anyone remember "The Program?"

Remember the linebacker in the movie, Elvin Mack?  He got his leg broken vs Iowa in the movie, and in my irrelevant opinion, he is behind AIRBHG...taking his revenge, ACL by ACL

23 weeks 17 min ago it doesnt matter if rutgers is any good

they could still try to get on in any markett they want, but the BTN makes more money if there is a school in the footprint.  There might be enough demand now in the NY area, but with a school in the footprint, the cost per subscriber goes up a dollar

30 weeks 5 days ago ehhh

I agree...go up 9.  2 scores less than a minute. If you're considering crazy things happening in that scenario, they are just as likely to happen in any other scenario.  Not a bad coaching move, but I doubt either move would've been wrong

30 weeks 6 days ago a lot of that makes

a lot of that makes sense...he seems to be doing that but everyone deals with things differently.  Thats a tough thing to go through, I was 13 at the time and cried after that lost (as well as avoided light blue for 15 years) so I can only imagine what he went through

30 weeks 6 days ago those are going to be all the

those are going to be all the names on my NCAA team this season!

30 weeks 6 days ago Certainly joking

especially since I will be a guest of his while visiting Ohio...I will have to keep the Pro-Michigan to a respectable minimum.  And to be honest, as a fan, it would be nice, but I could care less where he goes to school.  His coach however, I'm the best man in his wedding so, I don't mind doing a favor to go to my first OSU/UM game.  I will take the opportunity to say some good things from a fan perspective however, but in the end, he's a great kid, very funny, and i'll root for him ALMOST anywhere he goes lol

30 weeks 6 days ago right

he wanted to go this weekend but they have a rivarly game tonight, couldnt make it up.  And also his cousin/best friend being a package deal will help and Michigan might not take a 3* corner to get a 5*...especially if McDowell signs on.

30 weeks 6 days ago D. Hand

My best friend is his DC right now.  He is in an interesting situation.  He isn't a prima donna, he is very down to earth and a very very smart kid.  He does want an engineering degree and loves that Mattison is recruiting using the entire school and not just talking football.

He loves VT, because of Bud Foster, not Beamer.  He also has only been to schools that are within driving distance.  His head coach is a Michigan fan, and Hand is not a fan of the bias.  I am actually going to with them to Columbus Beauty School for the GAME.  I have 8 hours in a car with him to play the Victors and talk about Michigan...

for the first time in 4 years and that bothers me...

35 weeks 23 hours ago very similar

to last week...300+ passing 100+ rushing 4tds and i think he's gonna throw one clunker pick.

And I'm not sold on ND d.  they struggled against Purdue, and stopped a very one dimensional offense in Sparty.  8/9 in the box vs a 1st yr qb and Leveon Bell usually wins.

36 weeks 5 days ago actually

if it were to happen, it would most likely be in another BCS game.  USC, OU, and FSU have schedules that are easy to win out. Bama takes a loss will be ranked below them, and if any other team wins the SEC, Bama gets an at large and could get matched up against the B1G champ.  Would I like to see it?  yes, i hardly doubt the same thing would happen again, and like Mattison said, 13 offensive points after the first quarter...could easily be different.

42 weeks 5 days ago dont you mean

43 weeks 6 days ago it should come down

I like the point that it would be a constant security and liability issue.  It would need constant police presence and it's not worth in light of recent developments.

43 weeks 6 days ago lol

yes.  Those camps for qbs...apparently isnt that qb's strong point

44 weeks 1 hour ago agreed

but neither of us mentioned stats...you said Heisman, CT/NT..those players have conference titles.  Denard has everything but the accolades and its really the only thing keeping him from being in the national conversation about being one of the greatest.

44 weeks 1 hour ago all of those

are team accolades...none of the other guys on that list had awful defenses..matter of fact i think all of them had top 10 defenses at some point in their careers...and were all in RUN HEAVY/Option offenses with no coaching changes, and were only asked to throw to wide open wr's in 5 wr sets.  Denard playing 3 years under RR would be a different story

You win Heismans if your team is good (9-10 wins) same with conference titles/natl titles...By your reasoning Terrell Pryor was better as was Russell Wilson

44 weeks 1 hour ago caveats

none of those guys changes systems either....or played in a pro style..or west coast offense, they were all in run heavy option offenses their entire career under one coach with top 10 defenses.  Frazier, Crouch, Tebow, even Pat Whote can't throw as well as Denard as far as arm strength and accuracy (and accuracy isnt saying much).  Vick is probably a superior athlete, but they are remarkably similar in many ways.  As far as just individual talent, Denard would be my choice

44 weeks 1 hour ago not so much

thats not necessarily true, and it's really just as simple as adding a clause into your contract, that your employment is subject to the the university and conference morality clauses.  The schools can give the conference the power to police, and the conference would not actually be firing, rather giving the order for the school to terminate, which (if the schools agree to this) they will comply with.

Once again, the university would not allow the conference to involve themselves in trivial matters but likely more things like the Tressel siituation and obviiously Paterno.  If someone wants to blow the whistle and are stifled by the univeristy beauracracy, they would have another avenue in which to report.

That being said, i think its very tricky and will likely not pass.  Delaney will have a long sit down with his legal department before deciding that this could cost some serious dough.

44 weeks 1 hour ago i dont hate it

but i dont love it.

as far as the Penn State situation goes though, i think this gives someone involved someone else to call in the situation that no one chooses to do anything within the university chain of command.  I don't think they should have Goodell type power at all though.  Anything beyond banning a team or a coach from conference title competition, seems a bit much.

At the same time, the result would be not that much different than how people wished things were.  Had it been Tressel fired by delaney, would anyone here have objected since it was evident that anyone affiliated with Ohio wa gonna do it?  The conference stepping in to enforce morality that the university won't is not 100% bad though.  There is no need in thinking that a recruiting violation will be punished by termination, but more realistically the coaches that would get fired would be the ones that probably everyone thinks should get fired.

47 weeks 6 days ago I

completely agree.  You also look at a school liek Iowa to see how big of a difference solid coaching makes.  Comparitively speaking did the defensive players play to their expectations under Gerg or Greg? One is obviously an outlier than is possible in any system or undera ny coach.  Maybe not to the same extent, but certainyl enough to have 4 star talent playing at a 2 star level.

48 weeks 58 min ago yeah...

I agree with Colin about the fact that more teams will feel like they deserve a shot.  It's hard to argue saying someone could've been better than LSU or Bama last year, whether or not they deserved a shot...but it would be a much easier debate to say well..we beat Stanford or Wisky...or Oregon so WE should have gotten that 4th spot.

I wanna see how they break the money down for this though...

fluid however.  As you stated, luck and player development can change things considerably, and prediciting the future would be absed on an assumption of minimal (?) turnover and reasonable player development right? Could Brian Kelly not lasting past this season change ND's fortunes?  Thats a strong possibility...what about Ohio recruiting spread players that don't succeed in Minnesota in November?  I think we all know something about a spread not working in the BIG...I think just like with Iowa, the ability to get players to play beyond they rankings while difficult to predict, should be considered right?

50 weeks 22 hours ago It's odd

though that he still plans to take visits.  Officials are paid for by the schools, so why would a school fly him out across the country if they thought he was firmly committed to USC.  I'd be interested to see what the staff does in this case as they are adamant about UM recruits not taking any more visits after committing to Michigan.

On top of that Michigan isn't exactly a sexy visit, such as Florida or California...especially for a Cali kid, so if he really plans on coming I would think that there's more to it.  Could be he's trying to bring down the recruiting process tremendously or maybe it's for his cousin.

50 weeks 22 hours ago lol if Delany were in charge....

then this might be the B1G's new way of honoring legends and name the committee after 7 people.

Older coaches still sometimes see the game the way it was when they were winning titles, like Holtz and Notre Dame.  Even Bowden probbly still thinks FSU is everything CBS says they are each year.  Maybe having a Bowden on the committee would be ok, but an entire committee of coaches is ridiculous.  Not only could they show preference to their colleges and conferences, but their coaching trees.

1 year 5 days ago I think it could be big

ODU is more of a football move naturally, and teh ramifications WILL be large.  ODU has only had a team for about 5 years and they have had very successful seasons and been extremely competitive.  Thing is, in VA there are only 2 FBS schools, and neither are located in the the most fertile area of HS athletes in the state, which is Hampton Roads, or Tidewater.  Vick and Iverson hail from there and many other D1 prospects.  There is a team in Chesapeake named Oscar Smith which is usually ranked nationally.

Anyways...previously these kdis would go to VT, which is about a 5 hour drive to the other side of the state, but now many of these kids will liek the option of being able to stay home.  NC being close by, as well as Northern VA...ODU could be a solid mid major school.  With the changes and realignment taking place, they could find a home in the Big East or even ACC before its all said and done.

They also have a historically good women's basketball program FWIW

1 year 5 days ago also not a business major,

also not a business major, but with the help of a team of financial analysts, we conclude that you sir...are correct.

1 year 6 days ago thing is...

it's nto about us.  It's not about alumni or fans.  It is about the brand..and the "brand" is very much affected by football.  UVA is an academic equivalent.  Their athletics don't have the tradition that UM has, because of football.  We are here because of football.  People watch because of football.  The other sports matter to a lesser extent, but football is the reason many people first hear of the school.  So protecting and building the brand is directly tied to football.  It would be the equivalent of saying that Coca-Cola makes a lot of good products, but the "brand" isnt hinging on Coke.  Of course it does...your signature product has the biggest effect on the brand.

Regardless of whether we (fans) or alumni like whats going on, the kids do.  They are the most important people in this system and like someone so eloquently posted months ago..they are the consumers in this equation.  If kids are drawn to different uniforms, then lets do different.  Personally i prefer the variety (to a point), but with anything I don't like...I just won't buy a tacky new jersey.  I'll continue to wear my MAIZE #2.

I think at a point youc an become mired in tradition and it can become detrimental. (ND)  We are complaining about the tradition of the Rose Bowl and how it could be preventing the B1G from taking the next step nationally.  Uniforms won't prevent Michigan from becoming "bigger" per se...see Penn State.. but if it's the difference between attracting one more 4 or 5 star kid a year, what's the harm?

btw I have yet to see or hear a high school student say Oregons Unis are ugly.  But then again they also loved Maryland's...

1 year 2 weeks ago Hand

We've got a great shot with Da'shawn Hand.  Friend of mine is his DC and I get updates on who is at the school daily...people have been offering this kid for months.  Mattison has been to the school a few times.  He is a very very smart kid and he is interested in engineering.  He also loves the fact that Michigan is able to answer his questions about the campus and academics and not just football unlike Columbus Technical College and Beauty School.  VT and Bama will be contenders, VT fo rengineering, Bama cause its Bama as well as Michigan.

He is the real deal..I went to the VTO camp with Mike Farrell and saw this kid and as a soph he was DESTROYING senior linemen with legit BCS offers.  People could barely get a hand on him, much less block him.  He has great work ethic, he is very intelligent and when i talked to him a coupel weeks ago, he's got a great hold on this recruiting thing

1 year 3 weeks ago but

Who is making all this money?  There aren't many schools that operate in the black every year anyways, so the idea is ridiculous.  The only way to do it would be to create further division by creating essentially a minor league football conference for the schools that can afford to pay big bucks(...which would not include schoosl like UVA or FSU btw amongst others).  Someone should ask the scholarship players on non revenue sports who attend school because of the football money (and bball) if they think players should be paid in place of them receiving a scholarship? or their sport receiving funding.

1 year 4 weeks ago Agreed.

I have heard the same.  I have a friend that coaches 2014 Deshawn Hand who plays at Woodbridge(VA) Levenberry's rival.  My friend played LB in college and coaches DL/LB, and works with 247.  He isn't as impressed with Levenberry as he is with Gedeon.  He thinks Levenberry will end up at FSU because he might not have the talent to crack our starting lb core until a RS JR year at best.  I won't bore you with the flaws in his game, but thats just his opinion.

As far as character, he is a me first guy, with a control freak dad (who is a former cop I believe) who got into a fight at one of his sons games last year, and has been known to argue and yell at opposing high school players.

1 year 4 weeks ago I like it...

It would be nice if the LB's weren't high jumpers with more 1 handed catches than my wr's...and yes Denard should cerainly have dreads...

I like the read and react defense though, and the wr's looking for the ball.

Brian, I will excuse...but I'm just dissapointed we haven't had another 10 recruit weekend.

1 year 5 weeks ago idk if that can be a foregone conclusion

RR had won everywhere he had been as well..but Hoke didn't have nearly the career record or accomplishments.

Winning in the Mac and Big East...compared to winning on the big stage, with that pressure, the limits on players that can be brought in academically, and competing against UM, Central Columbus Tech, and Wisconsin for kids isn't helping his cause, or anyone elses.  ND hasn't been nationally relevant since the early 90's (?)  I think that's the last time they were ranked number 1.  I don't know if it's the coaches anymore, it might just be the school, the culture, and the competition.

1 year 5 weeks ago i dont think

its comparable...they arent signing a letter of intent., generally aren't recruited, and I think that sports is a different animal so analogies outside of the sports world don't alway shold true.  I think perhaps a conference ban is reasonable, EXCEPT for the players home state.  But multiple conferences and competitors is too much.

Bilas is too idealistic.  He is a former player and doesn't have much in the way of looking at the big picture.  If you notice how he falls on debateable issues, it is always on the side of the player ie pay for play.

1 year 5 weeks ago I think I might have a problem

2 years 29 weeks ago good post..i got negged for

good post..i got negged for something ridiculous and it has drastically decreased my interest in the site.  No one wants to be affiliated with people who act like that.  I go to 4 or 5 games a year, i know (personally)guys on the team, and I have plenty insight from inside the locker room.  I think the point system is out of control and only moderators should have the ability to determine someone's capability to post or not.

2 years 30 weeks ago agreed

You know, I've had this argument for years with my friends...No one could put together a team of alumni better than UM.  Offensively we are unstoppable and defensively we could shut down any number of teams.  I would move Woodson to safety though because thats mostly what he plays with the Packers and even ran it a bit with the Raidah's.    I say take the elite qb's first and work your way through O-line, wr's and tb.  Although that Oklahoma team would be tough.

2 years 30 weeks ago Really?

HCD says we have a shot at landing him?  Previously hadn't he said he was firm in his commitment to Bama?  Could D. Hart be in his ear?  He could have 3 of his current teammates with him in Ann Arbor.

2 years 30 weeks ago ...

I've been preaching..the scheme CAN work...the personnel is...not cutting it. They are almost alway sin position to mak eplays, but missing tackles and losing 1 on 1 battles are eating us alive.

2 years 30 weeks ago He's fine

i think there is something there...why would he consult with Rich Rod if he wasn't at least considering him for being there.  In talking with a few players, I get the feeling that Rich Rod is staying and the debate is more between blogs and media than internal.

2 years 31 weeks ago I agree

18 year olds are fickle...and if they see OSU has having hit a ceiling, not being able to win every game as opposed to us making a marked improvement from year to year, it sticks in their minds.  We lose games because of player mistakes, and poor execution....OSU loses plays because of conservative play-calling and being outcoached.  Most of their losses over the last 8 or 9 years, Tressel was outcoached, sometimes tremendously because he obviously has the most talent(i guess) in the Big 10.   High schoolers are looking at us and saying hey, i could've made that play and thinking they can contribute.  They might not think the same about osu.

The only problem is now that with OSU losing, which is the lesser of two evils, OSU winning the Big 10 or MSU?

2 years 31 weeks ago Good or bad?

I wonder if our defense poor play is helping us or hurting us in recruiting.

Some kids have to be looking at loads of playing time, while others may be saying they don't want to be a part of a defense that bad....

We have to show some improvement, and add a few elite players, and then many will flock over.  It would've been nice to have gotten that Cass Tech kid that is out at Oregon right now.

2 years 32 weeks ago ESPN take

This guy is a very good wide receiver. He looks just as good in person as he does on tape and he is very versatile. Moore has excellent size; he's thickly built and extremely tough. Is ultra-competitive in jump ball and contested match-ups and he has very good speed and explosiveness for his size. He can play inside or outside and is just as effective versus man coverage as he is zone. He is very smooth and fluid. Displays outstanding hands. Can consistently catch over his head. Strong hands to pluck in traffic. Can snatch the ball on the run with very little wasted motion. Extends well outside his frame and has very long arms. Is a threat after the catch. Does not possess elite initial burst, but he does display a second-gear to run away from defenders once he gets going. Sees the entire field and shows the change-of-direction ability to make sharp cuts without losing speed. Is strong and will drag some defenders for extra yards after the catch. Shows excellent open field run skills and definitely has a future as a kick return man. Top end, straight-line speed is very good and he will win footraces. Moore may not be shifty and sudden in the open field, but he is elusive and smooth and very strong-- is difficult to bring down one-on-one. Overall, Moore could be a guy that really escalates into a top flight WR at the next level and he also has upside as a redzone guy too. Excellent prospect.

2 years 32 weeks ago please!!!!????

is it disgraceful to get down on a knee and beg??

2 years 33 weeks ago hmm

Looking at DE play, secondary tackling, and outside containment...Wisconsin and MSU aren't very good. I owa is STRONG up front, but they trail off as you get deeper...and well OSU is...OSU.  But Illinois gave them trouble with a freshman in his 4th or 5th start...as opposed to Denard in his 12th? Offensivley we may gett 500 yards a game, and if we can convert more of those possessions from 3 and outs to td's, then it will certainly help our D.

2 years 33 weeks ago His facebook post is probably

His facebook post is probably a good sign...it's gonna be hard for any tb to NOT want a chance to pay in this offense.  And it helps that we are on tv every week...and the highlight reels are going crazy with our players.

I'm not saying he isn't a good back, he's a great back but he's getting a lot of attention and Mike Shaw is a damn good back ALREADY.  VIncent Smith might be the best blocking back on the team...and we haven't gotten a good look at the other 3 backs on the team...who are all big, physical runners with speed.   He's headlining our recruiting and I would rather focus our attention on a 4 or 5 star db/safety than a 4 or 5 star rb.  We should all prefer to have better secondary talent.

2 years 33 weeks ago he's not alone back there

he is also playing in the secondary with a very highly rated safety which may have affected his stars as well...he might be a step slower and not as hard a hitter and it will make him look worse since he is with Clinton-Dix

Love the profile pic, I live in RIchmond.  There is a guy in town whose license plate says FMICH.  I wasted no time calling DMV and saying I was offended by the suggested language.

2 years 34 weeks ago Wisconsin?

I'm not sold on Wisconsin either.  They haven't looked very strong against BCS level competition.  I think Miami and ASU would be a toss up game and you see how well OSU played.  I'm not saying that the Badgers are awful, but I don't see any team in the Big 10 that looks exceptionally better than us other than OSU.

Iowa has played shaky at times against BCS level competition as well, and the only explosive offense in the Big 10 other than Michgian is OSU.  Our run defense wasn't bad this weekend and Denard is a difference maker.  We are #2 in the country running the ball which is amazing.  And all things considered, we could very well go to Columbus undefeated.

2 years 35 weeks ago If we are gonna recruit...

let's do it right.  I think we should investigate the legality of Woodson and Leon Hall's NFL contracts and determine their remaining eligiblity at Michigan.  Maybe we can dig up Shazor too...hey, is Ty Law retired from the NFL too?  I'm sure he has some free saturdays...

2 years 36 weeks ago Chris Johnson..

Listening to Scott Van Pelt and RR from yesterday, made a similar comment about Chris Johnson.  No one gets clean hits so it's difficult to measure actual number of "true" hits he is taking.

2 years 36 weeks ago He's an 18 year old kid, he

He's an 18 year old kid, he is taking 2 trips to Michigan, and 2 of his close friends are headed here.  And Michigan for someone reason is a place that these Florida kids are loving.  I wouldn't say get excited, but I don't think it should be ruled out.  I'm willing to bet he is considering us, but it may hinge on FSU and Florida having better defenses.  If they play well on D, along with Bama, and he isn't presented with immediate playing time...

The good thing with all the transfers is that we are getting more available scholarships.  We are constantly in the media with a couple good wins and we are on the national radar, and we may pull in quite a few other big names.

2 years 37 weeks ago oh yeah..Purdue/ND

cant forget that one.  I might tivo it and watch later because I'll be at the Big House.  Definitely gonna tell us a lot about what to expect the following week.

2 years 37 weeks ago huge games this weekend...

I go to U of Richmond, so I will also be checking out that game against UVA.

LSU and UNC should be a great game and Boise vs VT.  Living in VA during the VT heyday if you will, I will say that Mike Vick has done more for this program, than Tebow did for Florida.  They are always overrated, they play (and win) in a weak conference but get beat consistently against top talent.  However Boise State in a a potential BCS game is a disgrace to Big 10 and SEC teams.

Naturally I'd love to see OSU fall to Marshall, but I think that would set the Big 10 perceptions back 5 years.

2 years 37 weeks ago well..

as bad as our defense is...he does have a good point.  This isn't exactly a loaded offense.  Not saying 6 points is likely but last year everyone was talking about how good a team W. Michigan was with their run game and retunring qb.  They got 7 points against a defense that is projected to be just as bad.

2 years 37 weeks ago Floyd is cool, but?

It's possible...our biggest strength on offense is speed, which happens to be ND biggest defensive weakness.  Did you see how Tate ran down the middle of that defense last year?  Sure it was a great play but Tate is a burner and the guys on the defense are slow!!!!  We have a decided offensive advantage when we have the football.  Of course our defenseive weakness is...defense so...shootout anyone?

2 years 37 weeks ago Agreed

When you (like myself) read the various breakdowns of Saturday's game, their list of strengths always include a returning (slightly less than average) quarterback, and I don't know if that should be considered a strength.  It must be noted that a lot of teams get the benefit of added experience and "another year in the system" that Michigan is rarely afforded.  People say our defense will be worse than last year but discount the fact that we are bringing back a lot of game experience.  Media says UConn with their sub-par offense last year will be better BECAUSE they have the game experience and who they are bringing back.  They lost a rb and wr from last years team who were possibly two of their top offensive talents.  Sounds similar to our defense this year.

2 years 37 weeks ago great!

lmao classic!  Im gonna use these on fb this season

2 years 38 weeks ago ncaa 10?

i'll do an ncaa 10 dynasty.  I'm on ps3 if that matters  "Canzior"

2 years 38 weeks ago I agree

I like the rivalry but its getting old and uninteresting.  I'd love more variety, more of the bigger schools, SEC and Pac-10 specifically.

And this might be a way to get them into the Big 10 if they decide to continue expanding.

2 years 38 weeks ago So...

...what?  You're not gonna watch it if it happens?  You won't watch UM/OSU in October?  You will.  Let it go. It's not that big a deal.  Tradition is overrated.  How many wins is tradition worth each year?  You're gonna be just as hyped about playing OSU if we play them 4 weeks earlier.

2 years 39 weeks ago he isn't small

he is 6'0 190 according to Scouts.  He's got good size for the position.

2 years 39 weeks ago You have to split them up.

Either way, Michigan OSU is the premier matchup in the Big 10 and one of the top 5 in all of sports.  You never want a situation where the best television teams in the conference NEVER get to play each other in a conference title game.  That may eventually replace UM/OSU as the biggest Big 10 game of the year.  But if there is never a chance that Michigan and OSU can meet in that game?  That's a bad tv decision.  Best product on the biggest stage.  Financially it makes all the sense in the world.

2 years 39 weeks ago lmao

ahh..I get it...but I'm going to the UConn game and I need to start early to keep my excitement up...

2 years 39 weeks ago ehh...we should leave it

I think a playoff negatively affects the regular season.  There would be the "resting your starters" issues that we have in the NFL.  How much would it suck for Ohio State to rest its starters against a 5 win Michigan team because they have nothing to gain by beating us?  "it's a rivalry game, that would never happen?"  Wanna bet?  All of a sudden playoffs become more important than the regular season, and college football has the most exciting regular season in all of sports.  Every week is make it or break it.  What happens if UM/OSU is a guaranteed repeat the following week regardless of the regular season winner?  (Happens often in the NFL, week 17 matchups/1st round playoff)  Does that make the !st game vanilla and bland?  There are too many things to take into account with a system that is going to be just as effective as the current one.

I mean which of the last 12 national champs do you disagree with?  1? maybe 2?  I can live with that.

2 years 40 weeks ago interesting

this looks like a very realistic starting defense...and the Offense is probably not far off as well...as a fellow Michigan football addict, thanks for the fix.

2 years 40 weeks ago well...

i have a maize Nike #2 jersey and would love to see Michigan have a 3rd Uni.  Maybe for night games only...even if we only wear it once a season or once every 2 years, i would certainly buy one.  Maize with blue pants?  sounds like a winner

2 years 40 weeks ago DG taking snaps is a good thing

You should also remember that TP2 started as a true frosh over a senior who had been in the system his entire collegiate career.  And The reviews have unanimously said that DG is a more polished quarterback and passer than TP2 was coming out of high school. (and some even say after his sophomore season based on mechanics)  So we shouldn't be worried, would you prefer he sits on the sidelines and does nothting?

2 years 40 weeks ago hey

You are every Michigan man's dream!

What did she get you for your wedding? Does she buy you horrendous gifts for the home? M-I-L doesn't have a tv in the basement? or in the bedroom for when you get a "headache"?  It's on ABC, she does have ABC.

Good luck!

2 years 40 weeks ago true..

yeah they were ranked high but part of that was the fact that the offense was a threat to score every time they touched the ball and a lot of teams were forced to pass to keep up.  However they still passed considerably less against WVU and produced about 20 fewer first downs in 100 more rushing attempts.  The defense works.

2 years 41 weeks ago very true...glad to see

very true...glad to see another Blue fan in VA, there's quite a few out here

2 years 41 weeks ago lmao...great one

lmao...great one

2 years 41 weeks ago I agree Lecter

I hear you even if no one else does.  Only one team in the Big East passed for more than 2700 yards last year, Cincy.  There were 4 schools in the Big 10 last year that were nationally recognized, Iowa, Wisconsin, OSU and PSU.  That's a tougher 4 game stretch there than in any other conference except the SEC.  Throw in a Purdue team that beat Mich and OSU, MSU that had another typically average season but can beat anyone on any given day.  And if you catch Michigan in the sunshine we'll score 32 (and give up 31).

They played 3 ranked teams...and lost to all of them.  I know you shouldn't take an opponent for granted but let's not overhype this team too much.  Would people be saying UCONN was that good if they were playing OSU?

2 years 41 weeks ago and yet again with the rankings...

Overrated is more than rankings.  All I'm saying is that public perception is more than sportswriters and coaches rankings and the national perception of Michigan has always been pretty accurate.  Excellent talent, conservative coaching, 8 or 9 wins per year MAX.  Thats what people have always thought about Michigan because that's how the program ran for 37 years.  No one other than select Michigan fans thought we would win every game, every year.  I don't see how that is overrated, expectations of this program vs how people see them has aligned well.  Take out Michigan fans because they are obviously biased.  Fans of other team think Michgian has a better brand than on the field product, and that is true to an extent.

2 years 41 weeks ago Whoa, whoa...

It seems as if there is confusion about "overrated" and "underacheiving."  They aren't mutually exclusive, there have been some exceptionally talented teams that have underacheived but that doesn't make them overrated.  Overrated suggests an undeserved bias of some sort.  07 Michigan wwas coming off an 11-2 season, and barely lost the best game played in the 06 season.  They had 8 guys currently on NFL rosters ON OFFENSE.    They deserved a top 5 ranking because anyone in the country that goes 11-2 and returns future NFL talent at every skill position will be in the same place.  In that regard you cannot say UM07 was overrated, they underachieved to proportions never before seen.

2 years 41 weeks ago lol are you serious?

Ha so you're best argument is preseason rankings? From 6 years ago?  and that makes us overrated? That's a joke.  SO anyone who doesn't finish the season higher than their media chosen preseason rankings is overrated?  Then everyone is overrated (or underrated for that matter)  And you bring up 08 and 09?  How exactly were we overrated in years that no one picked us to win anything smart guy?  Don't type shit just to put something up here, it should make sense.   Lol..

2 years 41 weeks ago true..

I agree with that...how can the perennial conf champ be overrated exactly??

2 years 41 weeks ago umm...

probably because no one has thought we were gonna win more than 6 or 7 games the last 3 years???

Now it sounds like you are talking about the program as a whole and the national perception.  Perhaps the caliber player we have put in the NFL? Perhaps it was the constant top 25 presence before the 07 season?  I challenge you to find a positive outlook on any of our past 2 seasons...and I will consider your statement with any validity.

You wanna know how Michigan is relevant?  We lose and we are still news.  When PSU was losing, no one cared.  When Iowa, Wisconsin or any other Big 10 team loses, no one notices. Michigan, OSU, USC, Texas, ND, Florida State and more recently Florida...nationally relevant programs.  Overrated should be directly tied into expectations, so if we are overrated this year, then you must think we are good for ...2 or 3 wins?

2 years 41 weeks ago MSU and Wisconsin

MSU overrated...I stated previously:

This is quite true.  Every year, there is nothing but unbridled optimism surrounding a perennial 6-6 team.  No one gets the picture that despite their "promise" (close losses to good teams) they are a team that cannot recruit nationally, and is full of 2 and 3 star recruits, with an occasional big name sprinkled in.  They have been breaking out for 10 years.  They haven't won a bowl game since Dec 01(over Fresno State), haven't won a Big 10 title in 20 years and have an eye-popping .522 winning percentage since 1995.

Iowa is up there but they are more likely to underachieve every year and it seems like Ferentz is a "hot" NFL commodity for seemingly no reason.

But Wisconsin is a good team.  They aren't a big name and don't have any national sex appeal like UM, OSU or PSU.  But they are consistent and they win games.  If they could EVER land a 5* qb they would be NC contender.

2 years 41 weeks ago I certainly agree

2 years 41 weeks ago It's up to Tate...

One thing we all know about Tate, he is affected by things that happen around him.  It's likely that Denard's acclaim since the spring has gotten in his head.  I think he is much better when he is in the light and not forced to fight for a job he might not win.  I think it's a case of RR pushing him harder because he was the starter last season and it doesn't seem like Tate is answering the bell.

As far as Troy's comments are concerned...I love it.  The seniors have had the worst UM career in about 40 years and they are responsible for this team. If you're a partner in a law firm, you most definitely call out the hot shot new Harvard grad getting complacent.  Tate can either respond by stepping up and showing his maturity or he can concede.

It has also been mentioned that BOTH of his brothers transferred schools as they fell down the depth chart...

2 years 49 weeks ago so, what can we do?

Maybe we should email the school in support of dorsey
