Not a new thought, I know, but it's as if Hoke is an actor trying to play Schembechler, reading from a script written in 1985.

I'm befuddled by the number of people on this board with no sense of humor. I really shouldn't be.

I agree that the endowments for the coach/AD/OC are stupid. But the money is in the bank. Not so easy to just drop it.

I can't see why anyone would choose to do it this season, but each of the last three times we've played at Michigan State, tickets have been released the night before through Michigan State's website. I figured this was the same thing, but whoa. I guess both fanbases are completely apathetic about this game.

Seriously, I think Bob Stitt would be a great candidate for OC. It's nearly identical to the situation when Chip Kelly went to Oregon. It makes so much sense that it makes me cry because we'll probably hire a cro-magnon OC.

Re: the ability to secure 10 together from the school. Either people just weren't interested in the game at all, or you have impeccable timing and put your order in right when Penn State returned its unused tickets/Michigan released tickets being held for VIPs/recruits/families that aren't coming.
That said, the surge in trying to compel people to show up has everything to do with fear that the 100k streak is going to fall at the most embarrassing possible time: the night game, which is supposed to be an attraction unto itself.

Funny, I took my wife to see Gone Girl and DVR'd the game. Came home midway through the fourth to find out that my DVR fucked up and recorded only 25 seconds of it some time in the second quarter. Turned out to be an okay Saturday night after all.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the move to the spread (sorry, Indiana Blue, S.H.I.E.L.D.) punt formation was in the Iowa game in response to problems in the earlier games. And they looked like they installed it in the pregame walkthrough and never practiced against live competition.

Once ESPN Plus started carrying the crap games regionally in the early 1990s, they've all been on TV somewhere. Last one I recall not being on TV was 1991 at Minnesota, played on a Friday night because of the Twins/Braves World Series. It is possible that there was one since, but it would have been a MACrifice.

It's not the same crime. Goodell's crime (probably) is that he seems to have completely underestimated the public's distaste for brutal domestic violence and gave Rice a complete slap on the wrist after, at best, the most cursory of investigations that featured Goodell interviewing the victim in the presence of her attacker. In the face of public scrutiny, the league officials, including Goodell, have offered up versions of what happened that are all over the place. Goodell's official position was that the league officials never received, let alone saw, the tape, which has been proven to be false. So there appears to be either i) a massive case of institutional incompence, or ii) a massive institutional cover-up. Either way, Goodell is in charge.
A couple of years ago, Goodell threw the book at Sean Payton over Bountygate, saying publicly that "ignorance is no excuse." Here, he's using ignorance as an excuse. Goodell needs to go.
P.S. Whether Goodell is the commissioner or not, the NFL will go on and this challenge to his leadership has no bearing on whether you continue to "f@cking love football."
P.S.S. I'll leave this right here:

I don't hate our band at all. I just feel like it's at its worst when it a) tries to do comedy (because it's awful at it and it's embarrassing to make fun of schools that we have beaten once in seven years), and b) dances. It does both way too often.

It's probably just based on your experience as a fan of one of the schools that you view them to be so different from each other. Both are well funded, big time traditional college football programs with top notch facilities. I think the experience for the recruit/player is likely very similar. Probably the same for ND/PSU.

Trust me when I say that the NCAA doesn't give a shit about what you, I, the media or anyone else thinks. You can stop patting yourself on the back.
My theory is that this is a quarantine move. The Power 5 have a massive antitrust problem when it comes to football. By separating them from the remaining schools, the NCAA can limit its damage to the past (because the remaining conferences may have TV deals but they aren't nearly as lucrative as the Power 5) and potentially ensure its continued existance no matter of how a court rules (although the NCAA basketball tournament contract is still problematic).
Under this theory, the Power 5 are taking most of the antitrust liability, which they would have the power to rectify economically in a way that doesn't require Sun Belt and MAC schools' approval and wouldn't drive them into massive deficits.
