It's probably just based on your experience as a fan of one of the schools that you view them to be so different from each other. Both are well funded, big time traditional college football programs with top notch facilities. I think the experience for the recruit/player is likely very similar. Probably the same for ND/PSU.

Hall of Fame question:
Is it limited to players that actually, you know, were measurably great? Or is it open to the gritty player who grittily showed the most grit?

Trust me when I say that the NCAA doesn't give a shit about what you, I, the media or anyone else thinks. You can stop patting yourself on the back.
My theory is that this is a quarantine move. The Power 5 have a massive antitrust problem when it comes to football. By separating them from the remaining schools, the NCAA can limit its damage to the past (because the remaining conferences may have TV deals but they aren't nearly as lucrative as the Power 5) and potentially ensure its continued existance no matter of how a court rules (although the NCAA basketball tournament contract is still problematic).
Under this theory, the Power 5 are taking most of the antitrust liability, which they would have the power to rectify economically in a way that doesn't require Sun Belt and MAC schools' approval and wouldn't drive them into massive deficits.

It's just narrative based on perception. Unfortunately, we're set up as Rocky with OSU as Apollo Creed.

When this first came up, I didn't have a problem with it because I thought it was postgame. But TD fireworks? Why not just install the General Motors dancing fountain?

I don't mind it. It's the post-game version of a flyover. Most importantly, it has nothing to do with the game. Don't want to see it? You don't have to stay.

If you want to see some bullshit 40 times, watch The Opening. I stumbled upon it the other night and they were claiming guys were running 4.27s. Yeah, sure. High school kids running times faster than Chris Johnson's official NFL combine record.

I don't think it's as much "making Michigan football do what they want" as much as "if this is what you're turning it into, I'll spend my money elsewhere." Besides, assuming you're right and if that's really the aim, it's much more effective than buying tickets and not showing up, as some have suggested for the Appalachian State game.

I think we have a better shot at OSU right now because of their losses on OL, Hyde and on defense (which wasn't an exceptional defense to begin with). That said, I'm sure OSU will have both positional situations and a reasonably reliable replacement for Hyde figured out by Thanksgiving.

We used to LOL at Mark Hollis' marketing strategies. Some of them were hokey ("Michigan's silver lining" helmet decals) But hey, they play a spring game late in April that seems geared towards engaging with, you know, fans. Our game gets move up and is the world's worst football practice.
Honestly, if we were treated like this by a significant other, our friends would get us drunk and try to get us laid.
|18 weeks 13 hours ago||I wish they treated us more||
I wish they treated us more like customers. Customers patronize businesses until they feel like they get better value elsewhere and leave. Loyalty generally goes as far as it is earned. Fans, on the other hand, are fiercely loyal and often line up at the trough no matter how badly a team treats them.
Not every revenue source needs to be tapped, especially when it's almost always at the burden of your greatest resource, your fans.
Having said all that, improving internet access is a big deal and will improve the experience of attending most games, particularly the shit games where you'd almost rather be at home watching a more interesting game.
|18 weeks 4 days ago||I would describe it as the||
I would describe it as the erosion of the gameday experience. I agree that it's difficult to put a finger on exactly what it is because it's not just one thing. For me, even the ND and OSU game experiences -- both exciting games against rivals -- were lacking something for me last season (and the last couple of years). Hate to revert to cliches like the straw that broke the camel's back, but it sounds like you've had the same experience: a series of very minor gripes and inconveniences (Special K, the closing of the Yost lot to many, the banning of water bottles, "have you liked Michigan Football on Facebook?" etc. just a representative example, certainly not everything) combining to make going to games less enjoyable until, this year, I decided I just didn't enjoy the day enough to invest in season tickets anymore after 27 years.

You kind of kill your argument when you conflate Iowa, Nebraska and Penn State with MSU and OSU. I mean, Iowa is less of a rival than Minnesota (3-0). We've played Nebraska four times ever (can't really call them a rival) and Hoke's had one game against Penn State in State College. Those are just teams on the schedule -- not rivals -- to which you could also add Northwestern (3-0), Illinois (2-0) and Purdue (2-0).
