Why is America against letting athlete pay levels be set by the good ol' free market? If Calipari wants to pay, say, Devin Booker $250,000 for one year, why should anyone be able to stop him?

Minor leaguers are non-union. That's why they were drug tested well before the MLB players were. Also why they are paid like shit.

I agree completely about Lesnar. Only booking problem now is that they really don't have a guy to go up against him. (Just did Big Show and Henry a couple months ago.) I'd wager they'll now continue to build Roman Reigns and it'll be Lesnar v. Reigns at WM31.

I really liked the Lesnar upset, largely because of the way they sold the shit out of it. The silence after the three count was eerily remniscent of the Kordell Stewart hail mary. Letting that stunned silence hang in the air for a minute before Brock's music came on was great, and the crowd reaction shots were great as well.

Interesting idea, but I think Brandon's problem as it relates to his Domino's experience isn't the quality of the Domino's product (fast food pizza), it's that there are so many fast food pizza franchises that companies are constantly coming up with gimmicks to stand out from the competition. Michigan football/Stadium does not now nor has it ever needed such gimmickry, yet it's being treated in the same manner.
People have enjoyed it for what it is for over a century. We don't look to MSU or Eastern or really much else for alternative fall Saturday entertainment. If there's any real competition, it's the home experience, but that is only better when the live experience becomes unpleasant somehow. Brandon's answer is to "liven" up the live experience, which is seemingly becoming unpleasant to many, sending them where frankly, they can enjoy the game just fine without all the bullshit.
|7 weeks 5 days ago||To me, the gameday experience||
To me, the gameday experience has gone from tradition-based to a homogenized, corporate one. I'm not sure there's much left that doesn't happen in any other college or pro stadium, other than the songs the band plays. Rather than let new traditions develop, they cram 7NA down your throat, because Penn State does it, or hype videos, because, well, everyone's doing it.
I'm somewhat surprised we haven't gone as far as playing movie scenes from Red Dawn ("WOLVERINES!"). Then we will have gone full Sparty.
Not to say that we need to wind the clock back to 1973 or anything, but stop trying so hard to make things seem cool. Perfect example: a few years back, they used to have some texting poll to see what the band played at the end of the third quarter. Turns out that virtually every time it was an option, the Blues Brothers song won and the students did the dance. A tradition was born organically. Contrast it with the Slippery Rock thing, which was brought back with a grand announcement and video telling us how cool our parents were for loving it, then the score gets announced several times per game (even if the game was last week). The AD will say it's a tradition, but if it went away again, no one would care.

Easy on the "life altering" part, there buddy. He has a degree, he hasn't been convicted of anything, he's not on SORA or any other similar list. There's a better than average shot that all he's going to miss out on is whatever graduate credits he was completing and maybe an NFL training camp invite.

They know how many #16s were sold between 2010 and 2012. And seeing as he was the star QB, and there haven't been any other significant #16s in several years, Denard wouldn't be sharing those royalties.

It doesn't matter if people would have bought someone else's jersey. It's a hypothetical that can't be proven no matter how likely. The fact is they bought the #16, and in several different styles thanks to our AD's marketing prowess.

It's a coincidence because each of the sports he said have passed also have had free agency. Thus free agency doesn't seem to have hurt them in popularity. Thus, you really have an uphill battle to claim free agency has caused baseball's decline in popularity.
|10 weeks 6 days ago||I wouldn't think about it in||
I wouldn't think about it in terms of protecting the alleged victim or punishing the accused for a past act. Think about it more in terms of the university reviewing evidence and deciding it is more likely than not that a person committed sexual assault on another student and, therefore, moved to protect the rest of the students from that person.

Think bigger though. The reason the NCAA's system has survived without judicial scrutiny for so long is that the parties that can challenge, the "student athletes," are only in school for four years, thus, they have a hard time maintaining standing throughout the life of the case.
But if there's a union involved, there would be no standing issues. The antitrust fight could finally happen, and that's a fight the NCAA probably can't win. That's how it affects all schools, public or not.
