This post is very racist and should be deleted

As a Grosse Pointe North parent of 3 boys I know this post to be blatantly racist.  If it did not slam Grosse Pointe South too I would have thought this post to have originated from them as slamming black students from Harper Woods seem to be their reason for everything wrong in the district.  Don't believe me watch the biased and by the way incorrect reporting by Fox News of a stupid incident at Grosse Pointe North where one student dunked over another student.  It was reported as bullying etc instead of a prank which went bad.  They interviewed two sets of Grosse Pointe South parents who went off on TV in a very reactionary manner.  My son saw the incident from across the hall.  The kid who did it came forward, apologized and was properly disciplined.

The real question to which he knew the answer to before posting was was why are the test scores of the Grosse Pointe schools going down.

A better post would be how do we educate minority students (& poor students) in our schools so that they too can achieve the test scores of Asian students and higher income white students.

I think the educational system and the cultural stereotypes perpetuated by Disney and other Hollywood TV networks "that being smart is not cool" have failed the students most at risk immensely.

FWIW as the Detroit Public Schools continue to crumble this issue will become every school districts issue.  That issue is HOW DO WE EDUCATE ALL OF OUR CHILDREN not just the wealthy children.

Perplexing a little bit

I guess I don't understand football athletes.  I could not have said yes fast enough if a former pro head coach with super bowl experience and the coaching track record he and all of his assitants have gave me an offer.  Coach H  "We want to..."  Player "YES"  Coach "Let me" Player "YES YES YES!!!"

Feels like a QB depth issue

If you have 3 scholarship QB's you are probably good taking just 1.  If you have 2 scholarship QB's you panic and grab 2 in your upcoming class

This is feeling like a 5th year senior may not be coming back and that we get the announcement upon his graduation.

IMO No later than 2nd round based on athleticism / 3rd is a lock

Frick Eric Ebron went in the first and he can't even catch the ball.  Trent Richardson went in the first and he is slow and lazy.

I would take him in the 2nd / 3rd if you have an aging star QB.  I agree that sitting behind Braxton and JT Barrett would cause problems.

It will take 2 years on the bench before he is completely ready though.  Get paid to go to NFL school.

Bigger than Kaepernick.  Stronger arm than Kaepernick.  A little slower than Kaepernick but hey they should not be running that much anyway.

Horse Racing, Boxing, WWF, NBA, NFL

The fix is in.

It is why nobody watches Horse Racing, Boxing and the WWF / WWE.

NFL lost me as a fan today.  No more tantasy.  No more wasted Sundays.  I can't trust the officiating so I can't watch

Aaron Rodgers was a JUCO

I am a big proponent of JUCO.  Especially for sports like Baseball, Football and Basketball.

Kids get injured or come from small programs and are lightly recruited.

Kids want to play right away to develop.

Way cheaper to knock out 60 college credits at a JUCO and yes you can take real courses like Calculus and statistics.

Would you rather go to a JUCO in the hopes of one day playing for a Power 5 conference program or go and play at a FCS or low D2 like EMU?

I never believed in trolls until 15 minutes ago

He has not made up his mind one way or the other.  IF HE HAD WE WOULD KNOW.

They are giving him time while simultaenously exploring plans B, C, and D.

The worst case scenario is Hackett tells everyone he tried as hard as he could but Jim wants to stay in the pros and that we should all rally around the new coach _(insert Plan B)__.

Means nothing more than Mile is not coming

Too much baggage.

Plan B is taking care of itself.

What is Plan C? Fitzgerald, Shaw, Narduzzi?

My gut is Hackett better get a Plan C going and soon.

The longer this goes the more people whisper into the ears of current players and future players.

Speculation is making me drink

OK it was actually my kids and a pension fund out of Canada that made me start drinking tonight.

1) David Shaw; 2) Les Miles; 3) Jim Mora Jr.; 4) Fitzgerald; 5) Mullen.

Since we are just throwing out names now here are my 5.

I think collectively, the Michigan coaching search has cost the world of college football an addtional 30 million in salaries per year.  Our real goal is to bankrupt all of the Power 5 schools.

Hackett is brilliant.

Second round

Most receivers take 3 years and he is no Odell Beckham Jr., Mike Evans or Kelvin Benjamin so my guess is second round - talented but needs development.

The lack of his willingness to block is going to hurt him more than the drops.

Good luck.

Hopefully we get a coach soon so they can talk anyone else out of leaving early.

Baseball takes Juco players

He came from the ACC.

How it could be handled

He tells the world he is going to take the Michigan job at the end of the NFL year and that his contract will be bought out, traded to Michigan for money whatever. He hires Mattison as his DC and any other person he would like to retain from the prior coaching staff to recruit and to keep the current players from bolting.

I think his players will play harder knowing he will be gone.

In 3 weeks when the 49ers are kicked out of the playoffs (or next week when Seattle kills them) he begins the transition.

That is if he actually wants to come back to Michigan but still show his current players that he is honoring them and their season.

I don't think he actually wants to come back though.

Bold prediction.  49ers fire him tonight after the loss to Oakland  and perhaps the GM's daughter even tweets it.

Until 7 PM today

He is not a coaching god.  He has plenty of baggage and there are other great coaches who actually want to be here.

All we are doing right now is stroking his enormously huge ego so he can say no later.

Move along.  His family is in California and he wants to be a coach in the NFL.

Mora, Pinkel, Miles.

If he wanted to be here he would have said yes.  He didn't.

The door is open

I think we need roughlyt 12 (?) scholarship players right now for this recruiting class. With attrition above and beyond normal because of the coaching change we could need 18.

I have a hunch one or more of our QB's will leave and Wilton Speight starts next year.

Lots of work to be done for the new coach so lets hope this gets done fast and not some time in January.

Just staring out of the window onto I696

I don't want to witness any car crashes so I should just go home right now.

Bourbon or Scotch?

Go D2

I don't get it unless the university president hates football.  They could have pushed down to D2 and become more "student athlete" as opposed to "athlete who might go to class".

However, first of many.   In 5years you could see EMU gone as well.  I think the lesser WAC, MAC, Conference USA etc. are all in trouble.

For that matter, watch what happens to high school hockey and then as participation fades high school football.  Very expensive hobbies when asking teachers and admins to hold the line on salaries and benefits.

OSU and MSU Trolls better watch out

Karma is a bitch

Runyan for line coach

Is it beneath his payscale?

Turmoil in other athletic programs

Firing Dave Brandon now may put the Lacrosse program in turmoil.  Also I worry about gymnastics, cross country and our Varsity bowling program.  We have some new lanes with a special wood finish that is nearing completion and firing him now may piss off the donor.

FWIW That is why the school you go to matters

How stupid are the UNC players for not taking real classes?  Football is the most brutal sport there is and you have the opportunity to come out with a world class education but don't.

Hopefully things are run differently here and our medical hardship kids come out with real degrees.

Donate $200,000,000

Tell them you want Brandon fired and a building named after you.  If they counter agree to meet in the middle with a firing of Brandon.

Cheapness

I was a guest of a colleague and was served Gordon's potato chips and stale bread in the Jack Roth Stadium club.  Umm, not what you would expect for the cost of the tickets and the price of the meal.  The hot pretzel was no Aunt Annie's either and was on par for what you would expect at a parking lot carnival.

They treat their big ticket buyers the same way they treat the students.

Look, I hate the protests only because I t hink it hurts the players today.  However, I do believe Brandon Hoke is the clown show and when the season is over (7 losses) it is time for a change.

No more factions.  Broom them all.

If I could fix one (ok two) thing (s)

1) Beg the WR coach to teach his WR's to run slants when the linebackers blitz instead of 30 yard pass routes;

2) Ban the word fuck.  It has almost no meaning anymore.  I think we are way past fuck.

Someone told him to play Morris

And he just gave that person the middle finger and risked a kids health. Fire Hoke now

Hoke wants to be fired

And he is getting Shane killed

How is he going to maintain weight?

He will need to find thousands of calories every week from someplace.  South Quad cafeteria look out.

Michigan Youth Football Development

Football participation is down heavily in my area in SE Michigan.  Most likely concussion concerns but I did not poll parents.  I know our HS was never a football powerhouse but in conversations with friends across many cities it appears youth football participation is down state wide.  The state of Michigan just does not produce enough 4 and 5 star players to be nationally competitive.  Coaches are forced to go out of state where we are competing against a player's home schools.  Alabama, Florida, OSU, Texas A & M, USC and Texas just have a huge competitive advantage.  Hoke and Co. have a tougher job than what we think.  Not excusing his record but just saying these other coaches don't have to be as good to have better records.   I think the administration knows this and to keep up appearances you see the "less than" schedule.  Here is hoping our national brand helps our national recruiting to get us better long term.  In state recruitiment is now just the gravy.

All Sport Trend

"Social media killed the sports star".  Someone should write a song.

Not making excuses

This is going to be a rebuilding year. Hopefully they will progress through the season.

Possibly

I looked at his profile in greater depth.  My guess is he is more an OF than a P.  The lefty specialist is just a bonus.  He needs to be at 85 mph to be a top tier college left pitcher.  (88 mph for a RHP)

Going back to the sophomore thing for a second.  I think offering sophomores off of their freshmen year and a camp is risky.  I can't think of another major college program that does this.

Football has measurables like speed and strength.  There is more film on a player.  Unless this kid has been seeing 88 mph fastballs with sliders and curve balls from real pitching and not a bullpen camp then this is a risk.  You have to play 18U travel ball to see this kind of piching.  High school baseball blows and the 16U tournaments don't have a high enough caliber pitching to make those determinations.

I just don't know what the hurry is.  I do get the kid from Brother Rice though.  He throws really hard and is very tall.

In terms of scholarships - most if not all of these commitments are preferred walk on status except from what I believe is the kid from Rice.  He is probably getting a half scholarship to start.

Hmmm

Offereing sophomores - especially slow throwing sophomores is super risky in baseball.

If you don't want people to think you are a clown then

Don't act like a clown.  Is it really too much to ask the athletic deparment to contact a professor or two in the communications department.

Seriously, if they just said we kicked his ass off of the team for violation of team rules and privacy rules prevent us for talking about it the first time this issue would have been dead to the fan base. Why the lie?  Now you are linked to the event and you open yourself up to the what did you know and when did you know it question.

A ton

I am excited to see what a motivated Derrick Green can do next year.

Very funny

I find the longer you do something the more you allowed to say almost anything you want.  I bet Narduzzi thought it was funny too and wished he could have said it.  I suspect there was more to the story like Narduzzi getting 30 minutes and then going over his time allotment..

No duh.

NCAA is about money not education.  Hundred million dollar stadiums are not built for amateurs and 3-5 million per year is not paid to college football coaches because they are teaching students how to be great citizens.

It is time we (nation of college football fans) all acknowledge these are semi-pro minor league teams to professional sports and stop with all this academic integrity nonsense.

Either be OK with it or drop your favorite team down to Division 2 where there is academic integrity and student athletes actually need to earn real degrees.

Good luck

Being an athlete and being a student is tough.  Way tougher than anyone realizes.

I wish them all well in their future and they will always be Michigan Men in my book.  Like mentioned above, I hope they were able to graduate or get enough credits to finish college soon.

I got blasted for mentioning this.

Rawls was the name on Talk radio 3 weeks ago that I referred to in a post as good attrition.

Good kid who was not going to play here.  He now gets a chance to play and be the big fish in the MAC pond.  If he was ever going to go to the NFL he needed to play.  We get a scholarship back.  Win Win.  Sorry it did not work out but this is major Division 1 (Semi Pro) Football.

Are we really debating the word that describes our season?

Did it feel like they were prepared for KSU?  No.  Unless Lockett is the second coming of Jerry Rice, Michigan's secondary defense was not prepared and looked lost. Moreover, our linebackers filled the wrong gaps and our linemen did not contain the QB.

The reality is that third rate football programs are stronger, more skilled and better coached than us and we are now talking about 6-7 years not one.

However, because of money owed to the coaches and the lack of direction from the AD, it is easier to make excuses.  Our players are young.  We had injuries.  Bad luck.  Bad referees.  Our kicking game let us down in the PSU OT game. The OSU defender made a great play on the two point conversion.  They hit a 61 yard field goal - who does that?  If only Joique did not fumble in the snow.  If only Stafford did not throw his 20th interception in 5 games.

Same team.  Same coaching problems.  Same upper management problems.

If we are looking for the word that describes it and we don't want to use devastating then use LIONIZED or SOL - Same Old Lions.

All I know is this.  Our players deserve better.  From all accounts they are good kids with tons of talent.  It is the adults who are letting them down.  If you are making millions of dollars per year you should be great at your job. Average or good for $4 million per year is not good enough.

Bigger Long Term Problem

The State of Michigan needs to produce more D1 4* and 5* football athletes for our program to recruit locally and to be more successful.

Recruiting is hard on a long term basis if Florida, Texas & Ohio produce the bulk of kids playing D1.  Those kids will naturally grow up rooting for a local program.

MHSAA rules really screw our state in almost every sport.  They force the private (expensive) programs to take care of development.

U of M Hospital

Has the best burn unit in the region.  Excellence is not just about football.

If only there were a couple of JUCO tackles ready to play

Oh wait, there are two 4 and 5 star JUCO tackles ready to play but they are going to Alabama and OSU.

Hemingway scores

Go blue

It did not bother me yesterday

You had to go for it.. No one was stopping their running game.

The play call was fine. Four options to win it. Better ankle he runs it and we win.

Revoke season tickets of those who sold

Lots of Red in premium seats.

Recruits & Opportunities

Honestly, outside of Alabama is anyone really playing for a national championship?  Saban is head and shoulders above everyone else including the guys over at OSU.  In fact, if you are a Freshmen or Sophomore at Alabama it will be difficult to get playing time.  Any athlete who relishes the opportunity to play and to play early in their career needs to look at a program like ours.  There are ample opportunities to compete and to play early at Michigan - especially if we tweak the coaching ranks.

Go Blue Devin

Hang in there. We all face adversity in life.

Alabama recruits jucos and just got a 5* Juco

So does Auburn, so does eveyone in the SEC.  I get it.  We don't care about national championships only fighting for the Big 10 Championship and maintaining our academic reputation.  However, if our academic reputation mattered so much answer this question.  Why did I have 20 football / basketball / hockey athletes in my summer Communications 101 class but none in any of my first year engineering classes?  Later when I transferred to LSA I did not have any athletes in my statistics classes nor in my economics / 200 level accounting classes.  They also did not exist in the 400 level economics classes.

I will tell you why.  Athletes in revenue producing sports have almost no extra time to go into Pre Med, Engineering, Pre Law or the BBA programs.  Athletics is a full time 8 hour per day job and we are kidding ourselves if we think otherwise.

Honestly, we have bigger academic problems if taking 2 or 3 Jucos per year matters academically.  Just take the Juco kids and "teach them up" so that they will do well and then go win some damn football games.  Our elitism is killing this program.

College Ball gets no support in the North

There needs to be two NCAA seasons.  One for the south and the west and another for the midwest and the northeast.  Games start in February where all the northern teams travel down south or out west.  They start games up north in the middle of March.  I assure you in the middle of April it still sucks to play travel ball in Michigan.   I have a HS sophomore catcher who has been to the camps.  Coach Bakich is a very good coach.  He seems to have some quality assistants and a good system.  Heck, I stole his baseball warmup drills from him when I managed last year.   I believe he will in a couple of years compete for a big ten title.  However, the reality is that the majority of baseball kids are trying to get south and Coach Bakich will have to continually find the diamonds in the rough and kids like this last kid who developed late or was under the radar.  The good news is baseball is a late bloomer sport so if he is good at development and looks at player development as a 3-5 year process he should compete long term.  The kids down south are all looking to blow out and go pro after 3.

What is your prediction for the fight?

Pain.

Congrats Texas A & M on getting their 33rd recruit

They have now have fully joined the SEC
