Tate showed that he is still

Tate showed that he is still a very good QB and he can deliver whenever called upon. However, the truth of the matter is that Dernard is quite possibly the most explosive player in college football and I thank god that he is playing for the maize and blue!!!

no, but he walked off the field so he should be ok. GO BLUE!!!!!

I agree that there needs to

I agree that there needs to be something done before the big 10 season starts. Banks is not getting it done and Van Bergen hasn't been playing up to his potential thus far. Let's see what the coaches come up with.

There are a lot of overrated

There are a lot of overrated teams in CFB. We will find out who is who in the coming weeks.

Well, usually you would stack

Well, usually you would stack the line with 9-10 within 5-7 yards of the line of scrimmage. The defense would then be instructed to stay in their lanes and to take good angles. This can be effective if your running QB can't throw. Since we haven't seen Shoe Lace's touch on the long ball, I suspect that ND will use this tactic. You will also see a lot of movement on the D before the snap of the ball so that the young QB can't read the D as easily. However, a bomb or two that hit their targets will render this tactic useless. That is why I honestly do not think that ND has a chance in this one. Shoe Lace is just too damn good!!

I'll bet you that he runs for 200 and throws for 300 tomorrow against the irish.

GO BLUE!!!!

No

it was not racist. I am also a dark skinned American (I hate the term Afro-American) and I didn't take any offense to it. He was just trying to find a silly looking guy with dreads to compare him to.

I gotta say, I laughed more than anything. Did anyone else get the feeling that the irish faithful are REALLY SCARED OF DERNARD!!! I will be smiling from ear to ear after Shoelace hits them with 250p-200r yards. UM-42 ND-17

I said it before the season

I said it before the season started and I will say it again, Dernard is the most electrifying runner in the Big 10 and possibly in the country! Great defenses also make mistakes and he has the type of ability to take it to the house every time he takes off no matter who is on the other side.

I for one was very surprised at how accurate he was. I hope that he will continue to be so accurate through out the season but I know that when healthy, he will continue to be a threat to take it to the house every time he tucks it. Powlus was no where near as tuff as this kid and he damn sure didn't have the natural talent that Dernard has. No comparison,GO BLUE!!!!!

Here is to hoping that he

Here is to hoping that he sees extended playing time in the fourth quarter, while the starters smile and exchanging high fives!!!

Dude, don't do it to! Check out the link above about an hour before kick off. Some of the streams are kind of shaky but most of the Michigan streams have good-very good quality.

True indeed!!!

Myp2p is the best source for finding streams.

Motivation

I agree 100%! Having a  very hard working converted FB, challenge the two ILBs with a full ride is a great way to heat up competition at a postition that proformed horribly last year. I think that big O will ultimately be the starter against UConn, with Demens taking over for the next two seasons. This competition during training camp has lit a fire under the ass's of those two and will provide depth to this physicaly demanding postion. Hats off to Mark for his effort and may the best man win!

I ran track against Kevin

I ran track against Kevin Bryant (back up WR in the 90's) as a freshman in high school and grew up playing with his little brother Ricky. Unfortunately, Rick ended up going to the O it Sucks to be U university.

I also played against Kirk Moundros (Marks older brother- walk on Fullback) in High School. He played for the North Farmington Raiders and I for the Farmington Falcons. He was a decent tailback. I did get a couple of good licks on him though in the 4 games that we played against one another.

True indeed. Defenses held

True indeed. Defenses held him in check for the most part during his FRESHMAN year but you and I where not the only ones holding our breath when he took off with the ball. I am willing to bet you that there are d. cordinators in the big ten that have lost sleep because of this guy already. He is a difference maker that could be the deciding factor between a mediocre season with 6 wins or double digits in the victory column and a prelude to a NC in 2011.

I watched the spring games in Columbus, Happy Valley and East Lansing and I didn't see anyone, on any of those teams, that has the God given natural talent that he has. I know that those where just "spring games" and that the players where not going all out but the the game at the Big House was also just a scrimage. Please name one player in the big ten, at any position, that you think is more explosive than D-Rob.

I know that he still has a lot to prove but as far as talent and explosiveness goes, he is second to none in the big ten.

I am a huge Tate Forcier fan.

I am a huge Tate Forcier fan. He is not the biggest guy in the world but he is very competitive kid who really likes to win but absolutely hates to lose. He has what it takes to lead the Wolverines to a championship.

That being said, D-Rob is the most explosive runner in the big ten and possibly the country. Even though it was just a spring scrimmage, he looked 10 times calmer in his role at qb ( he didn't hop around like a rabbit after every play like last year.) and he has in my opinion the stronger arm of the two.

When it comes down to it, D-Rob is a star in the making who will play extensive minutes. It is up to Tate to determine (through his play in training camp) at which position.

That sad to hear. I played

That sad to hear. I played football against Kirk back in Farmington. I will make sure that I keep Jon and the Moundros's in my prayers.

Don't forget.....

the kid is a junior in high school. He has plenty of time to learn the "teachable" aspects of Football like pad level. The question is does the kid have the things that you can not teach such as speed, size etc. He has those things. He looks like a DE who is going to have one hell of a senior year. It will be interresting to see how this kid develops.

Vinopal reminds me of Kovacs

Vinopal reminds me of Kovacs with speed. If Kovacs had the speed of Vinopal he would be an all american. I am confident that Vinopal will turn a lot of heads with his stellar play in the years to come.

Hey guys, acknowledgment is a

Hey guys, acknowledgment is a sense of empowerment for idiots like good ol docter sherwin. This is the first and the last bit of attention that he is going to get from me.

I don't care about the so

I don't care about the so called experts and their stars. This kid can play! It is evident that at 6'3 225 he has all of the measurables. He is also very athletic and mean. I watched Mike Taylor's(4* Fl commit) highlight tape right after watching Jake's and the only difference was that Jake is a lot bigger and more physical than Mike.
Great pick up coach!

I had the same thought before

I had the same thought before I saw that kid play. What he has going for him is the famous and elusive "it" factor. He is a winner and he will lead our favorite team to a lot of victories. That being said, he will have to bulk up considerably in the offseason. Once he does that, he will be fine and the team will follow. Go Blue!

Why??

I do not understand all of the naysayers who are painting such a dismal picture in regards to the job that he has done here so far. Yes he has lost more games in one season than any other coach but who wouldn't have? There was a glaring lack of talent on both sides of the ball the last two years. Loyd Carr would not have won more than a game or two with the talent that was there in RR's first year. Despite the losses,"the head ball coach" at Michigan has done a very good - great job of recruiting the last 2 years. His offense was almost in the explosive category with a freshman at the helm. The defense was so depleted that he had to use walkons. What part of that had anything to do with the current coach?

Give this guy a chance and he will return UofM to its rightful place; The top of college football. Now if we could only somehow promote Florida and it's 5 Star recruiting class to the NFL :-).

Blake Sims is the real deal!

Blake Sims is the real deal! He is that explosive type of athlete that would flurish in RR's system. He also has a strong arm and could possibly challenge for time at qb. Apparently he was very interested in Michigan before he commited to Alabama. He would be a great pickup for us.

I don't know but this kid

I don't know but this kid would challenge DG for playing time.He is quicker than DG and has break away speed. He also has all of the tools to be a dangerous slot/wr/kr/pr. He is a special athlete who would be perfect fit in RR's spread. It would be great to get this kid!

Good Blog

Your comments would have made for a good topic for a forum. I wonder if the coaches also use those numbers to convince recruits that the sec is not what it's cracked up to be. Maybe that is the secret ingredient in RR's beloved snake oil...lol

I wouldn't past judgement on

I wouldn't past judgement on the kid so fast. His freshman year at Michigan was like his 4th year of playing organised football. He has all of the tools to become a force in the future. I think that he will surprise a lot of people this coming season and even more so in the years thereafter!

I also Agree but....

That Michigan offense will be at it's best when the two best offensive players (tate,d-rob) are on the field together on a consistent basis. Sooner or later D-Rob will have to make a switch.

I am also interested in seeing how the coaching staff deals with this situation. Do you drive your offense in 6th gear and jepordize DG's red shirt (injury to tate) or do you keep D-Rob as your security blanket and give him sperodic carries until Gardner is a r.frosh?? My hunch is that it will take care of itself during spring ball.

I know that Florida recruited

I know that Florida recruited him to be a DB. I have also read a lot of post on this subject. Fact is, he is the most dangerous ball carrier on the team and he could potentialy extend that "best of label" to the Big 10 and possibly the country.

I believe that he would succeed at DB but he can achieve greatness on the other side of the ball. He would also be one hell of a return man.

I take it that your comment was meant as a joke...LMAO

He has the talent to make it to the NFL but he will have to switch to a position that better utilizes his set of skills. I could see him developing into a weapon comparible to Percy Harvin.

D-Rob is our most explosive

D-Rob is our most explosive player and the X-factor in this equation. He is also one of the most talented guys in the country. Sooner or later he will have to make a move to a flanker/rb/slot type. It should not be hard to sell him on the idea because his only chance of playing on Sundays hinges on him being able to play those positions. I would also like to see him become active in the return game. This development, combined with the natural progresion of Tate and the boys, will lead to Michigan being one of the most dangerous teams in the country!!!

Urban is also a human just

Urban is also a human just like the rest of us. Lets wait and see what the future brings. Hopefully this will allow us to snatch a recruit or two from Florida's grasp in the coming years.

Merry Christmas to Brian and

Merry Christmas to Brian and all of my blogger brothers!!!

Floyd and Kovacs are both way

Floyd and Kovacs are both way too slow to be productive DBs for us. Those guys will be backup DBs and quality special teams players. Look for at least one true freshman to get the nod.

He would be a great addition

He would be a great addition to this class!!!
h

Parker,Beachum,Furman and

Parker,Beachum,Furman and Grimes would make this recruiting class a top ten class in most people's books and it would greatly enhance the chance of the 2011 team bringing a NC back to Ann Arbor. (yes I am an optimist -_-)Go Blue!!!

true if you take him in the

true if you take him in the first 2 rounds. He will slip in the draft and might be available in the late 2nd or early 3rd round. He would provide that big play ability that the lions special teams desperately needs!!

BG

is a moderately undersized de with a load of talent. Due to the depth in this years draft (on his side of the ball), it is possible/probable that he will slip to an early second round pick.
The Lions do have some firepower on offense but the Mcknight pick would help them to generate a dangerous return game.
They do need o-linemen but the best teams know how to assemble a team and are able to draft good linemen in the 3rd round and beyond.
This draft should be all about the defense and the intangibles!!

dline

is a good place to "start" the building process and I think that we should be able to get Suh and BG. One other position that needs to be addressed is a big play rb/kr/pr/slot type of guy. Thats why its good that Joe Mcknight likes to drive around in expensive cars from boosters. He will more than likely lose his elgibility and also slip a round or two in the draft because of "character issues". He has big play potential, great speed and would be a welcomed addition to a Lions team that lacks a big play threat not named megatron.

Its a shame

Jefferson will be a hell of a player some day. It would have been nice to see him in maize and blue...

Why LB???

I don't care how many stars he has. I just know that he is really freakin fast! One question, why is there no talk about this kid playing wideout? I watched the highlight video posted by Brian and Furman looks like a very talented and explosive athlete, the type that we are lacking at the wr position. He is also very thin and would need a couple of years to balk up and learn a new position before he can contribute. He could be a difference maker at wr from day 1.

Smith is quick but due to his

Smith is quick but due to his funny running style, he lacks that all important closing speed. This will not be a loss for the defense. However, his special teams play was admirable and that part of his game may be missed.
