|2 weeks 2 days ago||For New England||
I can't say I'm entirely happy with what the Patriots got back, but it was pretty evident that Mallett wasn't developing at all. For all of his physical gifts, his head just isn't where it needs to be, to at least be the Patriots quarterback. The local radio hosts here called him something along the lines of a "crap Drew Bledsoe" and I think that's valid. Mallett is a player who trusts his arm more than anything. He needs to reel that in at the NFL level because the best QBs are the best decision makers. I don't think he learned that at all.
I know that preseason isn't a gauge of how good a QB is, but I think that's part of how Brady caught the eyes of the Patriots to begin with 13 years ago. Garoppolo's game management, throws and reads just seemed more on than I've ever seen from Mallett.
With that said, I wish Mallett the best of luck in Houston. I hope Bill O'Brien who I still have fond feelings towards from his time here can help turn his career around. Or I guess, better put, push him to reach his potential.

The only two things I have planned are watching Arsenal and cleaning and smashing up some pumpkins for one of the brewpubs in the area.

Looking forward to Michigan's weekend in MA. That Eichel-Larkin battle of freshmen match up is going to be great.

I liked the zone blocking drill that they showed for the Mason Cole bit.
Freddy Canteen looks like he's playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers. He looks like he's running at game speed while everyone else is running at spring practice speed. I can see why people are impressed with him and the hype matches the visuals. Also, Jungle Beats.

It's preseason in a World Cup year. I wouldn't call it an outrage if Ronaldo and Rooney are out. Bale should be available because Wales isn't Cuppin'.
I loathe both of these clubs, so I have a completely different opinion of this than all of you.
|24 weeks 6 days ago||I tend to agree with this||
I tend to agree with this assessment. I appreciate that those guys played for the Maize and Blue and wish them the best of luck, but their games weren't progressing like we needed them to. It seems like we've had a lot of players come in recently and play well as freshmen and then struggle and never make the leap that we've expected them to make. Honestly, that's what's held them back the last couple of years from the tournament. Two years, a game apiece out from making it.
It definitely frees up some space for the younger guys. I'd anticipate that this makes Copp a near lock to be captain. If Larkin is to play center, I'd guess that he'd get the second line role, or they could have him play LW with Compher who I would assume continues as our topline center. Copp's status as second or third line center would probably be contingent on that. I like the way that shapes up down the middle. Red will have options. Hopefully, it will be a team that plays to its talent.

Crushed for Stamkos. As the OP said, he is one of the most universally liked players in the league. He plays the game the right way and people respect that. It was terrible to see him suffer that freak injury and it's sad to see him miss the Olympics because, from all accounts, he did everything he could to get healthy for them.
As for who replaces him? Even though I'd love to see him there, Jumbo Joseph doesn't have the speed for Olympic ice. You've gotta think it's St. Louis or Giroux. Dark horse would be Eric Staal who has played better as of late. Not exactly slim pickens from the replacements.

Did they not insure this offer?
I remember Jordan's Furniture has done this type of thing for if the Red Sox win/won the World Series. I'm pretty sure they insure the "bet." I'm not 100% sure, but you'd be stupid not to hedge it regardless of the chances.

Man, they really could have done better than getting a midtable EPL club to play Real Madrid.
But seriously, as an Arsenal fan, I hate this. I hope the school gets a good cut of this. That's like the only good that can come out of this for me.

The weather is usually worse in February than January, at least in Boston. There's supposed to be a snowmeggedon on the horizon which should (not) be fun! I'm glad January is ending too.

TROUBA (my phone autocorrects to all caps) is on his way to being of the best US born defensemen ever (Jones is too). That's not exaggeration. He's great with his stick and can certainly be a weapon with the puck at his stick. The main thing that he'll have to work on is being stronger in front of his own net. He'll have to be able to block out opposing forwards in front of his own net. He's only 19 though. I think he and Jones represent a golden age of US defensemen.

Lashlee is young and would be a very aggressive/out there hire. I just don't see him leaving Auburn. He has strong ties to Malzahn and is still very green as far as cutting his teeth at OC. He was only a grad assistant a couple of years ago. That's not to say he can't do the job. I just think it would be a hard sell. It would probably be difficult for him to leave Gus as well. I think he cuts his teeth there for a couple more years with his mentor, takes a small SWC type job before making a big jump.
|35 weeks 6 days ago||First thing I did when I||
First thing I did when I looked at OC's was find Baylor's OC. I didn't get to read his bio (cuz I was at work), but Montgomery has been with Briles since they were at Stephenville. I wonder if Montgomery would go with Briles if Briles leaves for the NFL, or takeover at Baylor, or consider other opportunities. The unlikely third case would be the only way I'd say.
|35 weeks 6 days ago||This stinks. I'm a Patriots||
I'm a Patriots fan. I get to see McDaniels' offense up close and personal every week. Everyone hypes of the Pats offense, but a lot of that has to do with Brady. A lot of it has to do with the system. I also think that BOB had a great positive effect too.
I don't really have a lot of nice things to say about McDaniels. I think that he's a good coach, but I hate his playcalling. For me, the Pats offense is about ball control and moving the chains. While Brady has thrown for a lot of touchdown passes, most of them seem to come on long, grinding possessions, enabled by the quick passing game. McDaniels likes to take more shots down the field and for me, waste downs. I mean, it was easier when you had Gronk and killer, but you've got to adapt to your talent. I don't think he's done that very effectively.
This is why I would not have been bummed if McDaniels would have left. Yeah, I'm nitpicking on an otherwise really good OC. I'm spoiled. I'm sorry guys.
|35 weeks 6 days ago||I think Manziel will do okay||
I think Manziel will do okay in the pros as long as he can avoid the big hits. He's instrinctually a great football player, but I doubt he'll get away with throwing it up to receivers like he sometimes did with Mike Evans. He's illusive and he can extend plays.
I think the Dez Bryant comparison is good, though I think it's good for different reasons. I don't think Dez is an angel, but I do think he cares a lot about winning and is demonstrative about winning. Unfortunately, that body language is often misconstrued and he is portrayed like a miscreant. I think Mr. Football is also misunderstood and people think he's selfish or this or that. I'm not saying he isn't that. But I do think he cares deeply about winning and about football and perhaps some of that is a lack of maturity. I thought he showed some great leadership during the Chick-Fil-A Bowl.
For me, his success is contingent on the situation he walks into.

Well, I don't know Blake's situation, but he's going to be a redshirt Junior next year, so it will be his fourth year in college. He could be on the track to graduate after next year and perhaps be on the path to the NFL.
