I thought that myself when I read that article that talked about a Data Scientist(tm)

Agree with all this. Even 17 "units" in four years should not be a barrier for anyone. Does anyone expect not to take four years of math, english, or some type of science?
I guess maybe some students that are not looking to, "play school," but it seems the bar to clear here is fairly low and we seem to have a fairly low standard of expectations for our kids. How does a university hold itself up as an academic standard bearer when they are essentially saying you can average less than 5 hours of class a day and still get into a B1G university?
|1 week 2 days ago||Actually, if you are playing||
Actually, if you are playing for the national championship, it is not overblown at all, as discussed here on MGoBlog a few times. From this article, the following:
If you want to win championships, you need to recruit top players. MSU fans can laugh about winning the recruiting championship and it not panning out on the field, but no one has gotten over the hump of not recruiting well and winning it all. Maybe with the new playoff format it will happen, but we haven't seen it so far.

This is a great point. Our 2014 D was extremely experienced, and 2015 looks to be equally experienced. This should continue to be a strength for the team, and once the special teams and offense gets going, it will only make the defense statistically that much better. (less three-and-outs, better field position, etc.)
We do need some players from this year to pan out as juniors in 2017, and for some of our current freshmen and RS FR to work out. If too much attrition happens on defense, we could have a problem, but hopefully Durkin, Mattison, or whoever will be the coach in 2017 will coach them up to Harbaugh standards.

On the plus side, Durkin and Drevno HAVE been evaluating talent (even if Harbaugh has not) this year. I am always reassured when the report is an offer went to a kid that has a relationship already with one of the assistants.

Very optimistic about the OL this year. Seven months from now I'm hoping the Utah and Oregon St games show us what upper classmen and elite OL coaching can do.

This reminds me of when Harbaugh was shown on Inside Michigan Football, first time after the announcement at Schembechler Hall, running into Pipkins. Harbaugh grabbed him and made some jabs at him, and Pipkins just backed up grinning. I don't think he had any idea what to do with this introduction!
Linkk to video, see 3:23 mark.

It's from the Harbaugh family, from when Jack Harbaugh was a child, the story passed down to emphasize the "appreciate-what-you-have" motto for the family.

Crap! Didn't think about that.... Maybe I can start the Lions defense instead of Alshon since they'll probably catch more of Clausen's passess than Alshon will.

Is there actually a buyout for a coach to go to the NCAA from NFL? It's not like any NCAA sanctions followed Carroll to the NFL - why would anything in an NFL contract follow Harbaugh to the NCAA?

No, the bar is getting yourself in n position to make a play. It is still a team sport, and just like a RB not getting yards is partly OL and QB and TE and WR responsibility, Clark not getting sacks is part the rest of the DL, the DB playing soft, etc., which is exactly what was said.

I'm hoping Peppers at Safety, Countess at nickel, Lewis starting and building on those picks in the Spring game. Of course, that assumes Peppers has the FB smarts very young to run that defense.
Nice list - thanks for posting. Obviously took some work.
|29 weeks 5 days ago||...and???||
I believe this was addressed in the article:
"The most amusing exchanges have been when NCAA witnesses have tried to warn of the potential for reforms to open the door for third parties (such as boosters) to pay players. The judge reacted to those argument with a resounding “and?” It’s sort of fun watching someone who hasn’t been bathed in NCAA hysterical doctrine reacting to such things."
What difference does it make if Denard's face sells cars for the local dealership or some other endorsement? I worked at Detroit Edison as an engineering student, and aside from getting some experience in the field I pursued, it also paid almost twice as much as the gas station where I was working midnights.
There simply is no rationale for why the players shouldn't get paid if they are able to sell their NIL, except that someone says, "I don't like it."
|31 weeks 2 days ago||I think the "unnecessary||
I think the "unnecessary burning redshirts" is over done - I checked the Depth Chart by Class and it appears 13 of the 2013 recruits took a red shirt, not counting the walk on kickers. That seems reasonable to me with overall team depth and overall youth.
