I was watching on TV and all I saw was McCarthy say something, a flash of the crystal football going behind Jansen, and then McCarthy sitting there laughing when Jansen stopped and turned around. Didn't know "the rest of the story!" Thanks!

Favorite moment was JJ…

Favorite moment was JJ tossing the crystal football coaches trophy to Sanristil behind Jansen's back. Reminiscent of Brady's toss of the trophy to Gronk during their parade.

"...and business has been…

"...and business has been good!"

On oldest team, this does…

On oldest team, this does seem to be a significant part of being able to build a team that is successful with less than spectacular recruiting success. I believe this was part of Dantonio's success at MSU, having a lot of older/5th year players. The Washington coach in a postgame interview specifically mentioned the number of 6th year players and the effect the COVID year had to allow those players to remain, and how that wasn't going to happen again - it was like he knew a window that allowed UW to compete had closed.

I think it is hard to understate how much 23-24 year old players against 18-19 year old players is an advantage. You don't get that with the 5* that tranfer after their 1st year or even the high 4* / 5* that leaves after 3 years. But, mix in those guys with a solid base of upperclassmen and transfers in their 4th or 5th year who are looking for solid coaching and a winning culture, and I think you have what you need to beat the recruiting champions. I think it's a lot harder and more difficult to achieve, but that's why I think Harbaugh has proven he is an all time great. He changed when what he had wasn't working. That's the sign of a great leader.

Sounds like JJ has been…

Sounds like JJ has been working with Crash on his interviews. Nice job answering those questions!

I was waiting to board a flight in Chicago to Detroit and Devin Gardner was sitting in the boarding area. I believe it was after a bowl game somewhere in FL. I didn't want to bother him too much but I was wearing an M hat. I said, "Go Blue!" when I walked by him to board and he gave me the obligatory "Go Blue!" reply.

We were on Southwest and I sat in the window seat of about the 5th row. Gardner got on the plane about 10 people after me, looked over and saw me in the window seat, and then took the aisle seat. I was geeked, expecting to get to at least have a short conversation. Then, the 3rd person behind Devin, a kid about 20, climbs over Devin into the middle seat. (If you fly SWA, you know no one ever takes the middle seat until the plane is full, definitely a plane etiquette faux pas.) This kid proceeds to tell Devin how he's a student at Bowling Green and saw him play against BG, etc., and Devin smiles and sort of nods at him, and while the kid is talking, Devin slides his headphones over his ears and closes his eyes.

I got jock blocked by some kid from BG!

Sam Webb and Alejandro had…

Sam Webb and Alejandro had this discussion on their post game video. It is getting to the point where it's almost expected they're going to score on every drive, stop the other team on every defensive stand, and make every kick and return to perfection.

I remember at one point looking at the score and thinking they could get to 50, and then thinking, "They really are dominating!" I'm surprised no one has started to complain the games are boring.

I have a friend who, when going through her divorce, a graduate degree was deemed an asset and part of the division of property. How much is a graduate degree worth? It definitely was obtained during the marriage, and your sister should be entitled to half of the worth of that asset. Get a REALLY good lawyer...

I said exactly this right…

I said exactly this right after the play. It looked like the referees got together and asked each other how they could cover it up, and came up with forward progress was stopped. "Yeah! Say that! Forward progress!"

Try the 720p version. Still a great picture.

I downloaded to a USB stick, plugged into my Vizio TV, and it played. No app needed.

I haven't seen the play…

I haven't seen the play again and we were in the north end stands. However, there was a loud cheer that went up at the start of the play - literally thousands were pretty sure ILL was offsides.

I suspect coaching has also…

I suspect coaching has also rcontributed to it, with the extreme emphasis on not turning it over…so not only does he need to be perfect, but he also can’t make a mistake. And he hasn’t turned it over, either, with just two INTs in 211 attempts, and both of those were batted balls.

I think the result of this coaching is what we are seeing, it's a feature and not a flaw. When the ball is overthrown on deep throws, no one has a chance at it except the intended WR. Underthrown balls can get intercepted. I can't remember the last time I thought JJ underthrew a ball.

He had a couple of mentions…

He had a couple of mentions in the article, too - I think an INT and a PBU? Hart and Newsome were at the game, so good night for him to make some plays. From the looks of the page you linked to, he has been productive and also appears to heading to MSU regularly.

I thought the AAPD was…

I thought the AAPD was already set up for a night game with MSU?

Damn that was close!!! Roman is going to get one sooner or later!

Yes, really looks like JJ is taking what the defense gives him. Methodical, good protection.

That seemed like a quick 1Q. Corum looks GREAT! Has to be averaging 5 yards a carry.

Going off the MGoBlue…

Going off the MGoBlue profile (https://mgoblue.com/sports/football/roster/eyabi-okie/23861):

  • 2018 - Alabama (Yr 1)
  • 2019 - Red shirt
  • 2020 - Transfer year, sat out, but I think COVID gives extra year eligibility?
  • 2021 - UT Martin (Yr 2)

So, possibly this is only his 3rd year of eligibility?

It's a simply game. You hike the ball, you throw the ball, you run the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Sometimes, there's lightening strikes. Think about it.

Actually was quite the drama…

Actually was quite the drama until the superintendent reached back to Adrian to find the current coach. Maybe someone here knows more of the story, but the short story in 2019 was they hired a coach who then quit less than two months later. Current coach has done a good job, finally developing some of the kids.

I think Harbaugh did say…

I think Harbaugh did say something about playing football as long as you could and then coaching is long as you could. I would guess he's going to coach until he can't coach anymore. I hope he decides to do that at Michigan.

What Tucker did this year at…

What Tucker did this year at MSU was most remarkable...

I would say what Tucker did was remarkably LUCKY. I don't think a long term strategy of lucking into an underutilized Heisman candidate in the portal is a formula for success. Granted, MSU had a good year and Tucker gets credit for that. But, if he was being honest, and based on their performance on pass defense, I think Tucker would have to admit they are lucky to only have 2 losses with the 120th+ ranking pass defense.

I think going forward there will be annual portal gems that are uncovered in a new system, but overall I still think recruiting overall is going to be the biggest deciding factor. Like you said,

The four teams in the CFP are not heavy portal participants.

As a stop gap, yes. To fill a hole or two, yes. Long term formula for success, especially with new restrictions on number of transfers, no.

I can't remember the player…

I can't remember the player's name, but he was a UM-MSU battle, his mom wanted him to go to UM, he wanted to go to MSU, and she wouldn't sign the paperwork. From what I remember, MSU just said, "You've got a spot," and he just went without an LOI signed. So I believe it has happened before...

The tail is already wagging…

The tail is already wagging the dog...

The university already makes an exception for most athletes. As you know, getting into Michigan is extremely competitive. I would guess that well over 90% of athletic scholarships go to students that otherwise wouldn't be accepted. Why should accepting transfers be any different?

The B1G doesn't like…

The B1G doesn't like Harbaugh. From the refs to the coaches to the media, they don't like him.

Especially with RB careers…

Especially with RB careers being so short he should go to the NFL ASAP.

I remember reading something about RBs having (in general) a certain number of carries over the course of a career, with college carries included. Would make sense to go pro.

I thought the same thing, couldn't believe the WR got leveled like that. Maybe not far enough down field that the WR can still be blocked? Brutal.

...right now there isn’t a running back in the country I’d rather have in UM’s backfield than Haskins, and it’s not even close... Just a great final year for him.

I keep looking at the depth chart in the site for eligibility and it lists Haskins as a Class of 2023. But, I keep hearing this is his last year. Is the depth chart incorrect, has Haskins announced he's leaving, or is there something else going on?

It seems we have been in…

It seems we have been in this gauntlet mode regardless of performance all season.

First, it was, "Yes, we beat Western, but Washington's up next!"

Then, a similar story with Wisconsin and Nebraska.

I have no doubt it'll be the same for MSU, PSU (if they show any improvement), and OSU.

I'm hoping for the same results the team has had so far.

Watching a replay of the…

Watching a replay of the game, I probably watched this play 10.times. Ross was right behind Hill getting to Mertz, and Hutchinson was right behind Ross (actually tripped over him). Mertz never looked at Hill, and he pumps the ball once. The coverage had to be pretty good and kept that quick throw from getting out before Hill got to Mertz. Mertz looked like he was pulling the ball down as he saw Ross and Hutchinson coming in. In the end, Hill was just the guy that didn't get picked up and got there fastest, but the coverage, Ross, and Hutchinson all had a piece of that sack.

Just got canceled.

Just got canceled.

Let's hope that's part of…

Let's hope that's part of the grand scheme, and it'll be a pass for a TD or 2 pt conversion against OSU.

I have also seen the sign…

I have also seen the sign near the entrance saying this, but I always wondered if there would be a mark up on the price. Also wondering if it applies to beer and wine.

On the video where Brian…

On the video where Brian says Ruiz, "brushes by a guy who will TFL," it looks to me like that guy doesn't get the TFL. He was trailing the runner and didn't catch him, the DE made the tackle. Is it possible this wasn't a mistake for Ruiz and he was supposed to brush the guy and find someone else to block?
