Yes, if "by making certain he can't get a job" means - "he may have to try hard to get a job without his father's influence". It may mean he has to work his ass off, maybe for free as an intern to prove he isn't a jackass. That kind of effort is reasonable.
America provides lots of second chances but you have to work for them. He is not a convicted felon and has no handicaps besides being an asshole. He could work his way through it, with "work" being a key word.
Most of us have made mistakes, some more public than others. So he justs needs to shut the fuck up and go to work.

If when you are feeling down you can bring up a particularily fun, fond and positive memory use that to chase the grief, try to focus on the fun and positive. It works for me.

A group of sales people worked in a several story building. While one guy is in the bathroom they take his car keys and move his car in the parking lot. They then have someone call him posing as the assistant to a key executive he has been dying to meet saying that the executive is free to meet him in 30 minutes.
The sales person grabs his keys and heads down to the parking lot. Everyone lines the windows of the office watching him frantically try to find his car in the parking lot. After a few minutes he rushes back up to the office to borrow someones car when he gets welcomed by the whole office.
The second is a small one. We would take the cord from a corded phone handset and put a bit of clear tape on the end to prevent the headset from working. Then we would call the phone often from the next cubical and would hear "hello, hello?". Then the phone would slam down. Repeat often.

|9 weeks 1 day ago||Depends upon the IB program||
Depends upon the IB program. Not all are the same, IA West in suburban Detroit give little lift and will depress grade points. Can't speak for others. I do know they greatly oversold the upside and left out the negatives - significant more work, lower grades, difficulty with sports schedules.
|9 weeks 1 day ago||Our IB experience||
My son attended IA West in Michigan a few years ago. He has since graduated from Michigan and has been accepted to grad school at U of M. His IB school actually hurt his him as he did not get initially accepted to Michigan. IB is a challenging program and will depress your grade point. Unless it is a highly regarded established IB school the grade deflation will hurt your daughter's chances at many universities. I think my son had an ACT of 32 and a GPA slightly under a 3.7 and did not get into LS&A initially.
I believe without his IA grades he would have been accepted right out of High School. IA West made many promises but in following my friends children I don't think IA West will aid your daughter if she wants to get into Michigan. I have heard exactly the opposite about the original IA in West Bloomfield.
I did not recommend IA West to my daughter and would not recommend IA West due to the face grade deflation and programs rigor was not adequately recognized many universities including Michigan. Things may have changed since this was in the early phase of the school. Most of the people accepted into Michigan from my Son's school were from the non IB campus. He did get into Case Western and Illinois so you mileage may vary.
My son also played football and basketball and both were a pain since the IB schedule was different.

|9 weeks 6 days ago||My wish - nail Donnal to the bench until||
My wish - nail Donnal to the bench until he develops some fire. He has some talent but plays with no passion. He gets his weak layups blocked as opposed to Wagner getting a questionable offensive foul going hard to the basket. Even sweaty Doyle with his lack of ups goes hard to the rim (and misses some dunks).
If Donnel had no skill it would be one thing but he has a complete lack if fire. I don't know if he is too nice, is simply a finesse player, has no desire for contact, or ?? but I think we win if he plays fewer minutes last night.
I'm frustrated by Irvin but never question his effort or passion. Not sure why Wagner did not get more time this year, especially yesterday even with the foul trouble.
|10 weeks 1 day ago||Agreed||
Donnal was poor tonight, missed a box out on a free throw and generally did not look competitive for much of the game. He has some ability but for whatever reason seems to lack a competitive fire. I thought he was coming around but seems to have regressed again.

|12 weeks 3 days ago||Similar, with different outcome||
My 19 year old nephew was driving his mom's Jeep Cherokee between Frankfort and Crystal Lake. It was snowing and he was driving a bit too fast - it's easier to get your own kid to slow down than a nephew - we come over the crest of a hill and on the other side there is a pickup with a trailer jack knifed in the middle of the snowy road.
He swerved, over corrected and proceeded to roll the car into a ditch in the National Forest. Thankfully we did not blast a tree head-on or nail the stuck truck. We walked away fine but the car was totaled. Cop gave us a ride to the Homestead resort where we had to call a car service in TC to come to Glen Arbor and get us to the TC airport to get a rental to get back to Detroit. No cabs in that part of Michigan.
Interesting fact was that the tow company said they cannot use power saws in a national forest so thankfully they could get the car anyway, but I guess if it is totaled who cares?
|12 weeks 3 days ago||A few||
Fastest - 1985 Audi GT on 696 between Southfield and Novi - 120mph - and yes I did get pulled over. But by the time the cop could catch up and track me (he was not using radar) I was going 70 in what I think was a speed limit of 55 at the time, I was able to talk the judge down to 5 over.
Fast - My parents 1970's Old Toronado with a 455 CI V8 - about 1974. I know I was doing 110 on old US 23 between Higgins Lake and Houghten Lake.
Most rubber burned - tied between the Toronado above (lighting up the front tires) and my 1974 Firebird Formula 400. 400 CI V8 that averaged about 8 miles to the gallon.

Similar story. I had someone driving the opposite way flick a cigarette butt out their window and came through my window and landed between my back and my seat. We were both driving about 30 mph so the odds of that had to be tiny. Thankfully it only burned my shirt and seat slightly - I had on my softball jersey made out of something that melted. Glad it missed my face. Thank god there are fewer assholes throwing butts out of their cars these days.

I had broken off shovel handles in the gun rack in my truck to help deter road ragers. I guess an actual gun would have been better - or maybe worse. |13 weeks 3 days ago||Work stories||
In high school and college I worked construction with less than ideal equipment. Just some highlights:
I had the trailer hitch sheer off the truck and dump the trailer while I was hauling a loader in front of the Gandy Dancer. The same truck did not have a gas gauge so you had to pound on the gas tank to get a sense of how much gas was left. I was stranded a couple of times.
Once had to change a tire in the Ann Arbor landfill in about a foot of garbage/mud ooze.
The dump bed was so weak you and a partner had to lay on your back and give the dump bed a start with your feet.
Had a brake line burst and had to drive for a couple of miles without brakes - but with a standard shift truck going slow is was okay.
One truck had the lower door hinges rusted away so the doors were bolted shut - you had to "Dukes of Hazzard" your way into and out of the truck.

|14 weeks 4 days ago||Wow||
Not sure where you went to High School, but it was sure different than mine. I went to a large public school - Ann Arbor Huron - which for the base classes were essentially warehousing 10% of the student population who had no desire to be there. In American History I had a kid seriously ask "how could a shot be heard all around the world?"
Now the top end classes were very tough with all of the professors kids raising the bar - getting into Michigan was for the dumb kids like me - they were going to Harvard, MIT, etc.
I can't say I go much out of High School except for one class - Humanities which covered Art, Music, Philosophy and History - one of the most challenging classes I had in high school or college.
|14 weeks 4 days ago||Don - good point||
Don - good point. However when I was at Ann Arbor Huron much of the class day was wasted by fuckups who were only taking up space until the day ended - except AP classes and Humanities. No politics - but there was a real reluctance to discipline or jettison problem students in my day. As a senior I had half days since I already had enough credits to graduate. If I actually had 4 hours of challenging classes a day that would have been more than I got in my 7 hours of school time.
Not defending the model, just saying duration is not a good measure of quality when it comes to public schools. Can't speak for private schools.

They had a 916 with the same body but a Porsche engine that must have been really fun.
I wish I had had enough money at the time for a 911 but I had been working construction for years and had saved up $2500 by the end of freshman year and a 911 even used in the 70's was well beyond that. $2500 got me the 914, but even them I had to pour more money into it to keep it on the road.

When I was car shopping as a kid in the 70's I drove a MG Midget, MGB, Triumph Sprifire, Triumph TR6 and Porsche 914 (which I bought). I liked the TR6 more, a bit bigger with more motor. But I do like most british sports cars. I had a Lotus Eclat, a bit homely but fun to drive but british reliability is not for the faint of heart.

For fun to drive and good gas mileage - I'd pick a Mini Cooper S, again. Relatively cheap as well and it hauls ass and handle well. I sold mine with about 30k miles for about $10k but it was several years old. But it is unique looking and fairly small so might not fit the bill if you like the Camaro look. Lots of interior room, enough for a fat bastard like me!

My Dad went to High School at old Ann Arbor High (the Frieze building, now North Quad), U of M and had a small business near campus so he would hit up Drake's and Thano's among other campus hot spots.

in the 80's I used to think I was fairly tough and could hold my own in a fight. Then I get in West Quad and see the size of the football players and realized most of them could quite easily kill me with their bare hands. While now I know that even little guys could have kicked my ass those guys are massive, I can imagine playing against them. Before the scholarship restrictions the 4th stringers were amazing athletes. We had a guy in the dorm who never saw the field at about 6" but was well built, fast and could dunk a basketball.

It is a good show. I do like the fact that the head Nazi's son needs to be killed because he has a genetic disorder - good karma there. I was hoping more of Red Dawn aspect but the resistance seem to have little going for it. Oh and by the way, Jules is really hot. Hoping for more steam in season 2. She and Frank don't really seem to have much going on.

Alls I'm sayin is it's easier to be a bully in cyberspace than with someone standing in front of you. And as a kid in the 60's in Ann Arbor many a punch was thrown and received - it was more of a "let them work it out" era.

Sticks and stones usually referred to someone personally giving you crap, which gave you the opportunity to give said antagonist a knuckle sandwich. As a kid I had a short fuse - so lots of knuckle sandwiches were delivered and received. Gave me pause to what I said.
I agree with most of what you say but some internet snipers never see the consequences of their words and enables them to be more bold. Ann Arbor is the worst for moving violations, you were lucky. I once got pulled over 3 times in Ann Arbor in one week. I think I got one ticket in the 3 minor stops. I was once pulled over for doing 28 in a 25 - driving a beat up old truck. Everything worked except the engine compression was so bad we started rolling away from the cop because I did not set my parking brake and the truck would roll even with first gear engaged.
The cool thing about the truck is that iw would occasionally blow perfect smoke rings at idle.

|22 weeks 3 days ago||Stories like that are cool||
Stories like that are cool, especially when you learn something new and get it fixed. I have a much simpler example. Coming back from nothern Michigan we stoped for lunch in Saginaw and my Dad locked the car keys in the trunk but the doors are open. It is a Sunday so we would have been hosed waiting for a locksmith.
The power to the trunk swich is off but I notice the glovebox has a light that works without the keys in the ignition. We were able to jump power from the glovebox light to the trunk switch and get the keys out. I think I may have burned out a fuse but otherwise was able to get us on our way. Felt a bit Macgyverish with that one.

Not quite the same but I took my learner permit kids out in the snow in deserted parking lots and have them do donuts, panic stops and generally go wild so they have a better idea of how the car will handle in the snow. Eastern has historically not had much campus sprit and is often a communter campus (unlike Central or Western for example). At one point in the 80"s they were decent and drew decent crowds. But at one point in their history they had lost 27 straight.
I grew up in Ann Arbor and did not know anyone who had attended an Eastern football game.
But I was mighty excited about the prospects of the WFL Detroit Wheels who played in Rynearson Stadium and had a number of Michigan players. I would have gone to their games if they had not folded so quickly. Their coach Dan Boisture was Eastern's old football coach.
Who were the Detroit Wheels? - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit_Wheels
They were trying to create local interest by signing ex-Michigan players. Mike Taylor played linebacker for Michigan was on the team with a couple of others.

Not a fan. I have been a member and contacted them for what I thought would they would have - and valuable to me - information on how to improve the chances of acceptance into Michigan. My employer provides a college coaching service but I found the Alumi Association and the local chapters provide no guidance at all. For those of you who have children who would like to attend Michigan, expect zero helpful information, guidance, or suggestions from the Alumni Association and local chapters. I understand that they have no say in admissions decisions, but a college coaching service for Alumni would be extremely valuable especially with the difficulty in gaining admission since the common app was implemented..
btw one of my two shildren attended and graduated from U of M Ann Arbor.

My stepmom has my dad's tickets since my dad died 15 years or so ago. There are the seats I sat in as a kid and heard my parents talk about seing Roger Staubach play Michigan in the Big House so I think they got them in the early 60's. Not sure if she is interested in transferring but the cost would be:
$600 per seat transfer fee
$400 more per seat PSD per year than what I pay now
Just not sure the $2k in year 1 and $800 more per year is worth it. Great seats at about the 45 at about row 50 but I am closing in on retirement and am not sure I want to take on that load. I'm not sure my son would be able to afford them for several years.
I'm thinking of just keeping my Section 42 and forgoing Section 1. I guess I am just a cheap Fat Bastard.

I think the TV contract alone is $500 million. I's say spending 1.5% of the TV revenue would be a good investment.
