You can't really say Indiana is only a bad loss for us and not for them. I do think they are ahead of us as of right now, but it wouldn't be hard for me to see us jumping them should we beat them in the BTT.

Listen, I don't know you personally or your cheer record, but if you're like the guy I replied to who stood in line for bleacher seats and went to all the games, then no I don't think anyone would say we're "better" basketball fans than you. If your point is that we think we're better basketball fans than the people who only go to one or two games a year and refuse to stand up in the upper deck, then yeah that is "undeniable" that we think we're better fans I guess.
If you want solutions, in addition to the recruitng that always occur, there have been cheer books added to each section to try to get the students on the same page. We've been trying to coordinate with the band about what songs to play and we've been trying to get "section leaders" placed into all the non-bleacher sections to encourage people to cheer and stand up. I won't say that all these ideas have worked, but to act like the core leadership is just trying to maintain a clique and not involve other students is "undeniably" false.

I really don't understand what you're trying to say.

I've been trying to be really civil about all the potshots random people have been lobbing at the Maize Rage, but really you have no clue what you're talking about. If there has been one topic that has been discussed at our meetings to death, it's been how to get more people involved and on the same page. I didn't know being a dedicated fan made you a "groupie" and I still fail to understand how someone spending time on a sports blog has the audacity to attempt to mock someone else for being "too much" of a fan.

Two things to explain the difference:
1) This data is conference only, while KenPom includes the entire season in its data set (which it should)
2) I'm fairly certain that KenPom weighs his number against strength of schedule, that is that 1.223 number is what UM would be expected to score against a hypothetical average team, not necessarily UM's season average.

Not sure I'd consider Creighton the dream matchup. They are literally the only team in the country that I think could beat us at "HORSE" as Brian puts our general strategy.

I don't put a large amount of stock in it. The only problem with not winning it is that we inevitably would have to lose to a team that is fairly beatable (Nebraska, Penn St, Minnesota, etc.) or a team I loathe greatly (Wisconsin, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Wisconsin, IU, or for the sake of argument Wisconsin) which sucks. But I really just want to win one game and escape with no major injuries.

RR is the MIchigan version of Godwin's Law. As the number of comments in a thread increasing, the probability of mentioning RR approaches 1. Also if you are the one to bring him up, you automatically lose any argument you are involved in.
|4 days 12 hours ago||I think the only issue with||
I think the only issue with going to more conference games (from NCAA rules) is that the teams would have to agree to play that many less non-conference games. If the Big Ten wanted to, they could just award their autobid to the regualr season champion and eschew the conference tournament (like the Ivy League does).
As far as the game itself, that was just an on night and Illinois has no chance. I feel as if the defense improvement is encouraging and add the Minnesota game as an additional example. We had our usual slow offensive start there, but unlike any of the other games, we didn't give up 3-4 three pointers to put us down double digits. I think playing solid defense in the beginning of games is going to be the key to how far we go in March.

|1 week 5 days ago||COOL STORY BRO TIME||
The highlight of my athletic career was my freshmen year of high school on the JV baseball team. We were tied with Lutheran North and it was the bottom of the 7th bases loaded. I came to the plate, got in my batting stance, cocked the bat on my shoulder and...left it there as the pitcher walked me for a game winning, walk-off walk. Yeah it was all down there from there.

Full Disclosure: Goblue1817 is a really good buddy of mine. I can inform you that he did not actually attend the game, but, like me, is fairly close to the core members who run the Maize Rage so he's aware of what went down. Also this thread has been taking unnecessary potshots at several of our close friends and his snark is himventing his frustration at that I actually disagree with him about adequate communication occurring (which I'll bring up at the meeting tonight). The biggest problem is that the security guards left their post at 6:45 when they were supposed to remain there until 7 so people understood they were not to line up before then.
Again I sympathize with those who got stuck in the front fo the first line (my roommates were among those) and I have no real dog in this fight as I had a non season ticket holder student seat up in sec 220.

Not sure you can say "Damn you Tim Miles" when Nebraska winning at Breslin is what's giving us a shot at an outright tittle. Plus I just find him a fairly likeable guy overall.

Yeah. Georgia won the 2008 SEC tournament after going into the tournament at 13-16. if you want to know why these tournaments happen...well schmucks like me are willing to pay money to go watch these tournaments so the conference makes a ton of money.
|2 weeks 5 hours ago||There usually isn't a set||
There usually isn't a set time the line starts for weekday games as most kids have classes and the early time seems to set itself out. There used to be no real rule against camping out (OSU two years ago I participated in one and it was great). Then last year OSU, they kicked people out who tried to camp and I think it's been frowned upon since.
For weekend games they usually set a time around 5 hours before game time to start the line up. For example, for Wisconsin the line-up was similarly allowed starting at 8 AM and being there before didn't gurantee anything Obviously less people were in the situation fo camping out for that so it didn't become the story this one did. Bottom line is that it sounds like the core leadership needs to do a better jobs not being kinda dickish at 7 in the morning and the AD needs to clarify the rules for everyone vs counting on the Maize Rage leaders to be the bad guys.

Since I've made myself an unofficial "core" representative, I won't stoop to name calling despite it being tempting in this case. All I can say is that someone who spends time on a sports blog to criticize parts of a student section for "circle jerking at student section meetings" rings extremely hollow. .
|2 weeks 9 hours ago||Alright that sounds about||
Alright that sounds about right from what I had heard about the situation. I will be bringing up tomorrow that for future marquee games if they want to do this, there need to be multiple emails more explicitly explaining the policy or they need to not do it and let people line up whenever the hell they want.
|2 weeks 10 hours ago||I'm involved pretty heavily||
I'm involved pretty heavily in the Maize Rage though I don't have season tickets (so I didn't come until later and thus missed this situation). I'd encourage anyone who has constructive comments about this situations (i.e what could be done better) to either leave their comment here so I can review and relay that information or come to our weekly meeting tomorrow at 7 PM.
From my understanding, the 7 AM time was put into place to avoid having kids camp out. It was supposed to be irrelevant what happened before then because that's when the official line would start, but then people bullrushed early (including my two roommates) and then were told they no longer had a spot. Was this information not sent out in email beforehand? Because if not that was the primary problem and should be rectificed.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||I'd think we'd probably be||
I'd think we'd probably be seeded fairly similarly to how we were in 2012 after winning the Big Ten at 13-5 at a 4. We were 24-9 before the tourney that year, this year a 13-5 finish(with say an exit in the BTT semis) would put us at 22-10, but we'd have a much better road performance track record.
