Taking your clues on ethical treatment of amateur athletes from the NCAA, are ya?
|2 weeks 11 hours ago||That isn't even a valid||
That isn't even a valid rationalization given in all four occasions he didn't contact or respond to the recruit regarding his scholarship status.
If your scenario was the case, the staff would have had to inform the kid that they were no longer wanted, rather than ignoring them until they went away.
He basically just fixed the glitch.

Not many. In the games Michigan lost, it was established early and often that the offense was not going to do much to win the game.
Being overly aggressive in the passing game was also absolutely not the problem.

I did some digging on that time because I was bored and because I didn't believe he was that fast after watching the tape.
That time was posted in the Randolph County Meet. All 8 runners posted their best times on the season in the sprint. Most posted their best career time in that sprint. And the majority posted their best career time by over a quarter of a second in that sprint.
Are we sure those timers were perfectly accurate?
|11 weeks 4 days ago||If your point is that Beilein||
If your point is that Beilein will take one in three of his 3* big men recruits and turn them into valuable role players, I will certainly grant that.
However, the Beilein magic we generally are referring to means taking a high 3* or low 4* and making them B1G player of the year candidates.
No big man Beilein has coached at Michigan has taken the career arc of Trey Burke, Nik Stauskas, Tim Hardaway, Darius Morris, or Caris Levert. Not even close.

Cronin didn't look like he was set to blow up, and Donnal barely saw the floor. But Doyle is looking like a quality player.
Anyways, out of the other players there, you have one that turned into a decent player, and the "poster child for Beileining" didn't even make All B1G honorable mention. Morgan was a great "glue" guy who directed the defense very well, but he never rose above "competent".

It is really hard for me to believe that the toe injury was that hindering to the guy running down an all-conference safety in that gif, or that it had much of anything to do with his dropsies. I also wonder if his catch percentage had much more to do with the complete abandonment of downfield passing (Gardner's completion percentage increased and YPA cratered last year).
Funchess may or may not excel in the pros, but his departure was met with a chorus of "meh" because he had problem maintaining any consistency of focus and effort that was indicative of the team as a whole.

Who said anything about a kid getting criticized? Point to me where Brian actually criticized the kids idea.

To those of you criticizing Brian for giving out the guy's Twitter how else would you recommend he fight this?
The way Ace did, by explaining - with humor and class - why it is a terrible idea?

And Ace's post is a fantastic contrast, showing how to react to a dumb idea without being a colossal asshole.

If you Adam Weiss was your son and your reaction to Brian's post would be to tell him that is just people reacting to his dumb idea, I'd say you are a shit parent.
As it is, you are probably just full of shit.
I like this blogs general opinion that blowing up a high school senior's twitter over a college choice makes one a scumbag, but directing a large readership towards a college sophomore's twitter is fair game.
|20 weeks 6 days ago||Well, you are missing: 1)||
Well, you are missing:
1) Stupid ideas and stupid photos on twitter do not make college sophomores "jackoffs".
2) The kid has already had to take down his twitter feed.
If Devin Funchess caught this sort of treatment for his "Wins are just a statistic" statement, Brian would have a hissy fit.

Well fuck me, here I always thought making jokes at another's expense, especially of a threatening nature from a position of power were a common bullying tactic.
I hope if your kid ever comes home from school and tells you a kid in a higher grade was making fun of him/her, you inform him that the kid wasn't a bully, he was just joking.

This year's B1G is not nearly the resume booster as last year's, and I have serious doubts whether a 19-13 team makes the tournament from the B1G.
Regardless, I don't see a remotely likely path to six additional wins in the next 11 games.
|25 weeks 8 hours ago||Drevno's not overqualified.||
Drevno's not overqualified. He has never been in a coordinator spot before, and being a coordinator and an OL coach seems like a big job, even with Harbaugh taking a big role in the offense.
|26 weeks 5 days ago||Do you really think Wheatley||
Do you really think Wheatley and Morton are probable to come in as positional coaches, considering they were positional coaches in the NFL this past season? Both would seem to be taking a step backwards on the career arc, Wheatley especially, as Drevno would be be certainly coordinating the run game.
I could still see the possibility of Morton coming on with the title of "passing game coordinator" but I'm thinking Wheatley may have stopped being at all likely once Drevno was hired.
|26 weeks 6 days ago||He didn't really report a lot||
He didn't really report a lot of details, and what he did could have easily come from the pay sites.
Wasn't he also one of the guys who completely airballed the contract figures as well?
|27 weeks 1 day ago||From my reading, that "Of||
From my reading, that "Of course" is Rapaport implying the Raiders are being a bit ridiculous in claiming to still be pursuing Harbaugh. And I don't think Rapaport will ever be following Chris Balas for his reporting.
I don't really get what is wrong with this.
|27 weeks 1 day ago||Well, one of the guys that||
Well, one of the guys that caught the most hell, Rapaport, reported early on that Ross wasn't looking to make a change at Miami and wanted Harbaugh at Michigan. He also reported early on that Chicago was a tight-ass organization and probably wouldn't spend for Harbaugh. He also reported that Arthur Blank had an affinity for Rex Ryan but not so much for Harbaugh.
So the national rumor mill had pretty much come to the conclusion that NY and the Raiders were the only possible landing spots, and both of those organizations are talent-depleted and have a track record for mistreating coaches.
Put simply, there weren't really any good available jobs. The big error the national guys made was becoming convinced Harbaugh wanted to stay in the NFL enough to take a crap job. Even Charles Woodson said at the time that it sounded like a 1 in a million chance, because that is what everyone in and around the league thought.
|27 weeks 1 day ago||At what point do you think||
At what point do you think they made shit up. Some of the guys reporting about what Michigan was doing were complete shit - FootballScoop and that Brandt guy come to mind.
However, everyone - including Charles Woodson - who knew Harbaugh professionally thought that he preferred the pro game and wanted to stay there. You can hardly blame some of these reporters who were simply passing along the overwhelming sentiment amongst Harbaugh associates around the professional ranks.
Is it really hard to believe, given that no successful professional coach has gone from an NFL team to a college team and that Harbaugh went to the NFL the last time MIchigan was looking for a head coach, that maybe Hackett brought enough money, control, and support to change Harbaugh's mind 180?
And the "No good positions were available" isn't really made up. The rumor mill suggests that the Jets, who aren't exactly treating Rex Ryan well right now, and the Raiders, who are a tire fire, are the only likely landing spots for Harbaugh.
|31 weeks 12 hours ago||Brian, When you say||
When you say this:
"Michigan has decided that they should use Hackett for a transitional period specifically because football has a hiring season and they don't want to throw a guy in right now and expect him to get the thing right."
It doesn't make sense to me.
How does "Hire a retired CEO with no AD experience at the beginning of November and ask him to hire a coach in December" not the same as "throw a guy in right now and expect him to get the thing right?"
Wouldn't Long or Bates already be largely ahead of Hackett in the decision making process, even if they hired him in two weeks?

I guess you weren't able to make the jump from "kid is committed" to "Dan Mullen offered this kid", but just so you know, Mullen did scout him and ask him to play football at MSU.
You will be hard pressed to make any sort of "he isn't good enough for MSU" argument when MSU offered him a scholarship and didn't think to rescind their offer for 6 months.
|33 weeks 15 hours ago||Brian used up several||
Brian used up several sentences defending Clark from all of the people who were glad to see him sent packing. He even went so far as to say that those "assholes" would probably have done the same thing if they had the same history.
I get the sentiment here, I understand the point.
This is a tragic story to the degree that Frank's past has turned him into the kinda man who chokes and punches his girlfriend in front of her adolescent siblings.
That said, he's the kinda man who chokes and punches his girlfriend in front of her adolescent siblings, so fuck him, background and all.
|33 weeks 15 hours ago||I was turning Brian's words||
I was turning Brian's words back against him.
Instead of publicly sympathizing with Clark and saying that we should just let those close to the victim support her, we should public support the victim and let those close to Clark sympathize for him.
|33 weeks 1 day ago||Personally, I think||
Personally, I think perpetrators of domestic abuse should get all of the scorn that can be lumped on them, if only for those like the kids who witnessed this.
And as for those defending Clark from the internet bullies, I offer you advice directly from the words of Dear Leader: "If you're ever in a position to help a person in that situation do it and if you're not then don't puff yourself up about how roundly you condemn such behavior."
