"He's a hard worker, and he watched me and Tim (Hardaway Jr.) and Nik (Stauksas) put work in to become (first-round picks), and I'm just happy he's getting better," Burke said. "It's great for the program, too. It shows what type of program the University of Michigan is and the direction it continues to go in."

You all don't understand this is planned. The falling of the sellout record and the empty seats this season are necessary for the next steps, using these empty areas as an excuse:
1. Move season ticket holder up and out further by a section, reducing the student section.
2. Replace 30-30 yd lines, first 30 rows with club boxes.
3. These will be stadium seating, not benches, with concierge service.
4. These will be bought mostly by corporations, and the wealthly.
5. These will be empty most games, and guarded from unauthorize seat movers.
6. The skybox will be fitted with an awning to cover these people eventually.
This is what happened to pro sports and is moving to college. Used to be you could walkup to Tiger Stadium or Olympia Stadium and get seats just before game time and rather affordable. Now, with the superbowlizing of all sports, new stadiums have all these mostly empty corporate boxes. College sports is just a couple decades behind the curve.

This would be my choice.
I haven't watched it since the bad boys/magic/bird days.
The NBA doesn't really play basketball anymore.

Great news for Michigan - not so much Red Wings
With the new caps and the team consisting of very young or too old and nothing in between - I think the Red Wings are 1st round outs for a number of years and Babcock knows this.
The wings are victims of their own success. The past hirings of big free agents and signing good players to long contracts was copied by everone which led to the salary inflation and the lockout. Now there are no good free agents they are all locked into long term contracts.
Why bang your head against the wall for 5 years before you get another cup shot?

We are a 1-line team, prior to tonight a 1/2-line without Hank.
Boston rolls 3-4 good lines, like we used to.
Maybe our youth will improve next year.

Michigan had $137.5 million fiscal 2013-14 athletics budget.
We have about 700 student athletes.
Assuming a $3000 stipend, a $1000 plane voucher, $3000 in health care coverage, that is $7000x700 = $4.9million.
That's a 3.6% budget increase.

Did you think this through?
What about people that work at UofM? Live in Ann Arbor? Faculty that got their degrees somewhere else? Coaches and trainers that got their degree somewhere else?
A kid with cancer in the hospital that the players visit - not a true Wolverine, I guess.
The wolverine is the state animal so anybody from the State of Michigan call call themselves a wolverine.
Someone who attends is a Univeristy of Michigan Student.
Someone who graduates is a Univeristy of Michigan Alumni.

This is what will happen. You'll receive a negotiated stipend and then your on your own. Just like kids that do work study.
A lot of the perks will disappear - tutors, free food and weight rooms etc.
|16 weeks 6 days ago||I think ticket / activity||
I think ticket / activity fees are already maxed, so when labor cost go up and you cannot raise prices - you cut costs.
This means elimination of scholarships.
Teams will become "amateur clubs" like they were 60 years ago. Everyone is a walk-on.
Which means only students that can afford college can go.
Poor kids will be relegated to the semi-pros, semi-pro football will become a reality.
Is this any different than hockey? Kids that want to go to college play college hockey. Those that don't play in the minors at 18.
This is probably how it should work, getting rid of all the phoney classes and cheating for kids that don't belong in college anyway.

Law of supply and demand. Demand (popularity) of football increases, they can charge more. Then the market makes cheaper substitutes, then the original product crashes in price.
I believe as the baby boomers retire (people that are conditioned to sit in small stadium seats and pay high prices) they will cut back and the millennials will NOT pick up the slack. This is why student sections are half empty. They were rasied in a world where everything is televised, streamed, DVR'ed - there is no special need to see it live.

These lawsuits go head to head against Title IX.
If they try to pay big men's sport players, they will have to equal pay for the womens sports.
The costs will be too prohibitive and 75% of the sports will be cut and become "amateur clubs" with no school support.
I think the lawyers will argue that they cannot pay mens players what they are worth in a competitive market because the women would be worth less and that goes directly against Title IX. Title IX will win out in the courts over anti-trust.
