Michigan hockey against…

Michigan hockey against North Dakota in the 1998 NCAA tournament. With a Frozen Four spot on the line, North Dakota was favored, and took a two-goal lead in the second period. But the game was played at Yost, and the Yost crowd picked up that team in a way I've never really seen in person. Michigan won the game in OT, then went on to win the championship. I'll never forget it...

Unfortunately, that game probably helped bring about the end of on-campus regionals in hockey...

I was in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1, 1998 - my sophomore year, I stormed the field after the game, ran around hugging players, and smoked a cigar on the 50 yard line with my best friend.

Last night, I was on my couch in my living room, surrounded by my family - screaming and hugging my wife and kids with every big play, singing the Victors after the clock hit zero.

I don't know that I could pick which was the better experience. Being on the field in 97, surrounded by the team and friends, or being at home this time, surrounded by my kids. Like you said, that's parenthood.

Nope, it was a small fire pit, perfect for sitting around, drinking beer, maybe roasting marshmallows. We dug a hole for it and put concrete blocks around it. It was shockingly safe for a bunch of drunken 19-year-olds...

Then Matt Weiss' nephew discovered the crime, and decided to report him to teach him a lesson, figuring he'd just get a warning. Police surrounded Weiss' house, and the commander yelled 'Swarm, swarm' before charging inside and arresting him. As he was dragged off, Uncle Matt declared, "I'm old!"

For me, they're the dicks who busted me for an 'open fire violation' after we built a fire pit in our backyard sophomore year. Had to use the AA first-time offender program to get the misdemeanor wiped off my record (thanks Student Legal Services!)

Watching the video of the crowd giving the football team the ovation reminds me of the night in 1997 when Woodson won the Heisman - the ceremony was during a hockey game at Yost, and they announced Woodson's win and the crowd went crazy....

(sorry - double post)

I only see two SEC teams…

I only see two SEC teams getting in if LSU beats Georgia. They'll put a two-loss SEC champion in, but I don't think they'd put a two-loss team in that doesn't win the championship.

I think the speculation isn't that Edmundson's departure makes space for Moore, but Moore may have flipped, so MSU no longer has room for Edmundson, leading to the de-commit.

Not saying I believe it or not, but that makes more sense...

Which QB would give us a better chance at winning? Between Cade and JJ, Harbaugh has already made the decision for us: It's JJ. So to me, JJ needs to be above Cade.

I don't know what you're talking about. All of these guys have strong connections to China. Just look at this quote from Chelios to Reuters:

"Since we've been over here for three years you start to feel a closeness to China. We've been eating Chinese food, living the Chinese culture so there's a certain closeness you feel with China and you start to feel you want to win for them,"

He's been eating Chinese food! If that's not a strong connection, I don't know what is.

I got a few smart plugs (iris for $23, work with smartthings, supports mid-sized appliances like Windows air conditioners, and have power meters). But I haven't seen any great smart home deals, unfortunately.

I'm a former Daily editor

I'm a former Daily editor (96-00) still in journalism, and before reading that column, I never heard of the Pacemaker Award. Maybe it's new since I graduated. I will say this: there are many, many more Daily alums in prominent journalism roles right now than State News alums. And yes, in 1996-99, we were 4-0 against the State News.

I think so. I buy them in

I think so. I buy them in bulk, so they're not very expensive. I've had one box of blades for years now. Generally, they last about 5-6 shaves each.

The DE safety razor is

The DE safety razor is definitely the way to go if you have time in the morning to shave. I've used a DE razor for about seven years or so, and love it.

But I now have three kids, and my wife is traveling a lot for work, and it's incredibly difficult to take the time to shower and get a good wet shave when you have two toddlers and a screaming baby and you're by yourself in the morning. So about two months ago, I broke down and bought a Braun electric razor. On mornings that are crazy, I use the Braun so I can do it quickly and be done. When I have more time, I use the DE razor.

I get a MUCH better shave with the DE razor. With my 1964 Gillette Super Speed safety razor, a 15-cent Feather blade and a little Proraso shaving cream I can get away with shaving 2-3 times a week. With the Braun, I have to shave every day. A fresh shave with the Braun gets about as close cut as the day after a shave with the DE razor.

I used Mach 3 blades before switching to DE, and I'm amazed i ever used them. I'll never go back to those - they were bad blades that probably gave about as good of a shave as the Braun, and cost an arm and a leg.

I was actually at the game

I was actually at the game when he hit the bird. Craziest thing I've ever seen at a sporting event in person. Watching in real time, where you just see a puff of white, my first reaction was, 'holy crap, the ball just exploded. Randy Johnson threw a fastball so hard that the ball exploded.'

I often give a Go Blue, but

I often give a Go Blue, but am a little wary after my wife served on the jury of a murder trial in LA. The defendant was a member of a Crips-affiliated gang. I don't remember the gang's name, but it was named after their neighborhood, and it started with an M. Their gang clothes? Michigan gear - hats, shirts, jackets, etc - because of the block M.

My favorite Blimpy

My favorite Blimpy moment:

Old woman working the grill: What kind of cheese you want?

My friend: What kind of cheese do you have?

Woman: We have every kind of cheese. What do you want?

Friend: I'll have Mozzarella.

Woman: We don't have mozzarella! Get to the back of the line, and be ready by the time you're back here!

Classic.

Yes, you could. I took

Yes, you could. I took advantage of it the night Woodson won the Heisman.  I lived across the street from Yost, and we had a hockey game that night.  I went to the game for the first period, went home to watch the Heisman announcement, then went back to Yost for the third period, just in time to hear the Yost PA announcer give the good news. The whole place went nuts. One of my better college memories...

We named our black-and-white cockapoo Ann Arbor. We call her Annie.

That was actually my second choice. The wife rejected my first one: Lady Keith Hernandez.
