|3 days 10 hours ago||Wait now, I remember our last Big Ten Championship!||
It's only been...*counts on fingers*... uhh guys, i'm gonna run out of fingers here pretty soon
|3 days 11 hours ago||Because some people||
can't recognize false hope when they see it...
|3 days 11 hours ago||You keep bringing this up as if the situations are identical||
If that's the case we should expect to see a Big Ten Championship next year, or at least 11 wins, right? Is that what you're expecting in 2014?
The situations are not the same and it's pointless to compare them.
|3 days 12 hours ago||Just once I want the look at the MGoBoard and see good news||
Just once! All we get now is bad recruiting news, "what if" games lamenting our hearbreaking losses, and OSU vs. MSU BTCG prediction threads......
|3 days 13 hours ago||I realize Michigan fans have seen some rough transitions||
what with RR and now 2013 being a de facto "first year" according to Borges, but why is it that so many other programs can pick up a new guy and not skip a beat. OSU picks up Meyer and boom they're 25-0. Wisconsin's entire staff has been turned over and yet their running game is as sound as ever. Nobody is talking about dropping Borges and picking up a spread guy.
Doesn't matter though because there is zero chance that this rumor is true.
|3 days 15 hours ago||Oh c'mon, Urban Meyer has principles||
Hall will most definitely not appear until the third play.
|3 days 15 hours ago||but but||
the interior line is young! We just didn't execute properly! It's Rich Rod's fault! We were almost 11-1!
|3 days 16 hours ago||I'm not as sure about that...||
I realize this is debated all the time, but it's hard to compare the '80s and '90s to the past decade. Winning 11 Big Ten Championships and 3 Rose Bowls in 18 years, including the first National Championship in 49 years, improved the aura surrounding Michigan football dramatically - not to mention the domination of OSU during that span as well.
But then came the turn of the millenium...
OSU has Michigan's daddy basically since 2001, and we haven't won a Big Ten Championship in 9 years. That's pretty much '50s and '60s levels of mediocrity. And in case anyone forgot, Michigan football was nothing in the years before Bo got here.
The AD seems to have forgotten that, or else maybe they believe that somehow it's different this time, and people will continue to flock to Michigan football indefinitely.
|3 days 16 hours ago||Well not exactly||
I haven't really heard anyone complain about the AD bureaucracy not having enough top level-admins. And it seems to me most of the MGoBlog community would be thrilled if they stopped this crazy marketing campaign where were have to sit through fifteen ads about weddings in the Big House every game. And what's with all of the spending on food, hosting, and special events?
People complained that we didn't bring in top level coordinators for RR. That's about all I heard. And the massive increase in spending is not explained by Mattison's salary.
|3 days 16 hours ago||Not happening||
A more likely scenario is: Ohio wins BTCG and goes to the national championship to face FSU, while MSU goes to the Rose Bowl to face Stanford. It is then discovered that Jameis Winston is actually Jack the Ripper and the Tallahasee PD has been hiding it for 150 years. OSU stomps Winston-less FSU and wins the MNC. Meanwhile, Sparty obliterates #5 Stanford and wins the Rose Bowl, legitimizing themselves on the national stage.
As Michigan fans, this is our lot in life.
|3 days 16 hours ago||double post||
first one ever! What should I do with it?
|3 days 20 hours ago||sounds like a good set of rules||
BBrown has undersevedly had to take a lot of crap, and this will likely stop it.
On a side note i always wondered how that guy got so many mgopoints...
|3 days 20 hours ago||well, to some extent||
I mean if the US goes 1-1-1 in group play and doesn't advance, people will be complaining about the draw, no doubt. And the complaints will be pretty legitimate.
|3 days 21 hours ago||He's barely worth 24 million a year as of now||
and yet that's what he's going to be paid at the ripe old age of 40.
|3 days 21 hours ago||Jokes on you, rest of the world...||
because America still doesn't care about soccer!
Okay maybe some people do. And for them, this admittedly sucks. Though if the US actually made it out of this group it'd be pretty sweet indeed.
|4 days 13 hours ago||I agree wholeheartedly||
posting an interview is one thing. Posting a texting "converstion" (in quotes because 1 word answers are usually not indicative of an actual conversation going on) in which it is clear the guy is just annoyed at this point, is quite another.
|4 days 14 hours ago||Sorry but I don't see the point in posting this...||
It doesn't respect the guy's privacy and it doesn't provide any new information. We already knew McDowell had gone somewhat cold on Michigan.
The only thing this does is set Brandon up to be able to say "I told you so" when McDowell commits elsewhere.
|5 days 10 hours ago||After hearing the rumors tonight...||
Winston is toast as of 2:00pm tomorrow. Duke over FSU, Auburn over Mizzou, MSU over OSU, and 'Bama wins the MNC. Book it.
|5 days 11 hours ago||C'mon, Alabama could still win the MNC this year...||
Sure it's unlikely but it's definitely possible. No way this rumor is valid and Saban agreed to a contract with Texas in the first week of December.
|5 days 15 hours ago||not quite "just" a victory||
That would have been the greatest upset in 134 years of Michigan football
|5 days 17 hours ago||Would have been the greatest Michigan upset ever||
And I would take that over any bball win. Urban Meyer will never enter Michigan Stadium with a 23 game winning streak again.
|6 days 13 hours ago||this is complete||
bull. Every call to Duke. Every single one.
|6 days 23 hours ago||well you guys are an optimistic bunch||
No one is concerned that Hoke has not won a game on the road against a team that finished above .500, in THREE years?
We'll be on the road against our two Rivals who combined have one loss in 2013. MSU has eaten Borges's lunch three years straight and OSU may still be undefeated under Meyer and the reigning national champs...
Not trying to be a negative Nancy, but when your OC has had like, 10 games under 300 yards and like, 5 games without TDs... and the head coach is HAPPY with the job the guy is doing... well, what can you expect really.
My prediction is that the line still sucks, and Space Coyote will have to explain to everyone how you have to wait for that magical year when all 5 of your offensive linemen are 5* RS Seniors with three years starting experience in order to average above 3 yards/attempt. It would not shock me if we lost all of our road games, though I will probably still go to at least 3 of them.
|1 week 1 day ago||Don't see where you're coming from||
First off I'm not saying to run it down to nothing. If we had run a huddle there at 40 seconds the play would have ended with 25 seconds left at least. This is plenty of time to run 3 more plays, especially given we still had 1 timeout left.
Now, if you're saying that we needed to leave enough time to drive the field after recovering the onside... consider that the success rate for onside kicks is ~18%. Meanwhile, the success rate for a 2-pt conversion is 45%. We'll say the time required to drive within field goal range is 25% for both teams. So in that situation, the scenario where we take the lead but leave enough time for OSU to drive into field goal range is over four times as likely (11.25%) as the scenario where we miss the 2-pt conversion, recover the onside, and then drive into field goal range ourselves (2.5%). In reality, 25% is being way too generous to our defense. C'mon, 37 seconds for 40 (their 35 to our 25) yards with Urban Meyer's offense? That's just too much time.
|1 week 1 day ago||If you're so upset about this single play||
consider the fact that OSU still would have had 37 (!) seconds to get like, 35 yards and get into field goal range for the win. This is due to the complete and utter incompetence of our staff in spiking the ball on the five yard line with 45 seconds to go.
This scenario would have been even worse than the one that played out, and the way our defense was playing who's to say it wasn't likely to happen? Wile had already kicked the last ball out of bounds.
|1 week 1 day ago||But Auburn actually made changes to the coaching staff||
Which is something that in all likelihood Michigan will not do. Also, they won two of their games on some of the most miraculous plays in all of college football history. That's not likely to happen for us.
|1 week 1 day ago||C'mon, do you really believe that?||
MSU has eaten Borges's lunch the past 3 years. OSU will probably go out and get a top of the line defensive coordinator.
Weak interior O-line or no, Borges has not shown himself capable of beating competent DCs in either play-calling or game-planning. Even in 2011, when we had the best center in the country and Two redshirt junior guards, we still had games in which the offense just totally wet the bed. Why should we believe that will change next year?
|1 week 1 day ago||Would have been Michigan's greatest upset of all time||
Just remember, you are not alone... Doing my best to try to get over it, but fate has been so cruel to Michigan for so long now...
|1 week 1 day ago||It seriously boggles my mind that people still support him||
A careful analysis of the past 3 seasons says he should be toast. But instead, people are content on claiming one outlier performance in a game that we lost as evidence that he shouldn't be sent packing.
|1 week 1 day ago||This came up immediately in the live blog||
and was confirmed by the OSU players in the post game press conferences... Even when he seems to be on his game Borges is perfecty capable of having a complete brain fart. And some people want to keep the guy.
