Remember when he had the best YPA and QB rating in the B1G? That wasn't that long ago. It's not Gardner's fault he's regressed to this point. It's not the receiver's fault we won't be playing in a bowl. The team has fallen apart due to lack of accountability on sooo many levels. This is just flat out a bad team coached by a bad coach.

doesn't mean you condone their actions in any way. Or that you feel less sorry for their victims.
There's no shame in feeling bad for the fact that there are millions of young children out there who witnessed domestic violence growing up - or were themselves the victims of abuse - who are now passing that violence on to the next generation. Frank Clark may be one of them. Just because a football player was given lots of opportunities to correct their wrongs at the age of 18 (by the time their personality traits are already formulated) doesn't mean they're playing on the same level as those who grew up in much better living situations.

become equivalent to condoning their actions?

we haven't even sniffed a Big Ten Title game appearance let alone a conference championship.

please show me some actual data that shows there is a correlation between socioeconomic status and football success that is independent of fundamental disparities in genetically-based athletic characteristics between different racial groups.

Makes it seem like he has some special insight on the topic, which after reading the actual comments, does not appear to be the case.
Instead he's just spouting off opinions, which don't seem to be very carefully evaluated. I mean, our problem is recruiting too many "trust fund babies"? Really? Our 2012 and 2013 recruiting classes were ranked #7 and #5, respectively, on Rivals. These players were highly touted coming out of high school. I'm thinking the problem has more to do with what they do once they get here rather than their socioeconomical status (and I highly doubt that matters in any case). Sounds more like Larry is trying to rationalize the scenario in a way that subscribes to his preconceived worldview, rather than critically evaluating the facts.

but the text of that petition falls a little short. I mean, aside of the the copious grammatical errors, I thought everyone had agreed by now that the "Michigan Man" term has to go away.
|1 week 6 days ago||I didn't even make the comparison really...||
johnthesavage did and I just commented on it. He said he'd take Kelly over Hoke but prefers Harbaugh over both. Reader71 said he hopes that kind of thinking is in the minority amongst Michigan fans... I took that to mean that Reader71 values a coach's demeanor above their W/L record, meaning I have to assume he prefers Hoke over Harbaugh.
|1 week 6 days ago||I mean, I want a coach who "does it the right way"||
just as much as the next guy. But then how long do we have to sit here waiting, watching the entire world pass us by?
|1 week 6 days ago||You hope that people who want a winner as a HC||
are in the minority? I agree that Brian Kelly is awful (and perhaps deserves to be arrested for the crane in the wind incident) and I wouldn't want him either, but how could you possibly prefer a well-mannered coach who loses (i.e. Hoke) vs. a guy like Jim Harbaugh?

The coaches are responsible for how the players play. It starts at the top.

Brandon = oliphaunt
mgoblog = Theoden
spear-thrower = WD

just like Brady Hoke's tenure at Michigan...

thank you very much. FWIW he said Peppers is transferring to MSU and Hoke and Brandon just got 15-year extensions.

Oh c'mon, they won the Rose Bowl and beat Urban Meyer in the BTCG. Their success goes beyond Michigan's decline at this point.

The fact that Dantonio made that joke about the stake without even cracking a smile is about as Dantonio as it gets.
|3 weeks 5 days ago||The fact that it is still pissing them off||
The fact that it is still pissing them off seven years down the road continues to amaze me. They won the Rose Bowl and yet they are still fixated on this just as much as when it started. Stabbing a stake in the ground "is a product of their program"? No, no it's not. It's 20 year olds being silly. Was MSU planting their flag at ND back in 2004 or whatever a product of their program?
Everyone associated with the organization at the time the phrase was first uttered is gone. Dantonio is the guy who refuses to speak to his family for 40 years over something no one else even remembers.

When I read that comment... Hoke has Meyer's number about as much as Carr had Tressels number, which is to say, not at all.
|4 weeks 9 hours ago||It really amazes me how we treat these booth people like gods||
They sit up there completely invisible and make decisions in utmost secrecy (we don't even have any idea WHO actually is making these decisions) and we peons just accept it. No explanations necessary. I mean how about some freaking accountability? These guys are fools and completely incompetent. It's not brain surgery - how do you mess up an obvious call like this (or the Rutgers one) unless you're just completely incapable of being a replay official?
|4 weeks 9 hours ago||Yes what a special moment for Devin||
getting steamrolled by his in-state rival.That's exactly what I was thinking too. (Not that I blame Devin entirely, he was awful but the whole football organization is just incompetent and terrible)

|4 weeks 5 days ago||Still, it's hard to say we didn't have it coming...||
I mean, it's not as if we had been utterly dominant over that 6-win streak. Michigan could have pretty easily been 2-4 instead.
Under the same reasoning, it seems the data we have now indicates at least another 5/6 for Sparty :( except instead of nailbiters, most of them will just be pummelings. Alright time for me to stop wallowing... Maybe we'll at least reverse the downward trend in points this year?
|4 weeks 5 days ago||I never said it surprised me||
and the players themselves will always talk smack. But as fans we skating on thin ice - on the heels of quite a streak of luck that for some reason we thought was utter domination. Only two wins in our stretch of 6 straight could even remotely be called convincing - 2002 and 2006. The 2003 game took a heroic effort from Perry, 2004 was the Braylonfest OT miracle, 2005 was another OT nailbiter, and 2007 required a 10 point comeback in the final 10 minutes.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Carr was a very good coach...||
but Tressel ultimately did him in. At the end of the day though, I'd say his biggest flaw was failing to set up a suitable replacement ahead of time, and not embracing the role of "caretaker of the football program" like Bo did. When Michigan needed a strong leader more than ever Carr was nowhere to be seen.
Also if there is any truth at all to the rumor that he vetoed Les Miles that's just infuriating.

Before the CFP people were saying "Trust us, it'll never get past 4 teams, 4 is really just the perfect number." Well, we haven't even been one year in the new system and there are already people howling that 8 is the perfect number. It'll change, but then everyone will be saying why not 12 teams like the NFL?
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Any chance of 3 SEC teams in the CFP?||
Would probably have to entail a 2 loss team getting in which seems unlikely... but the SEC love is about as high as it can possibly get this season
