But at this level he's getting away with it. He won't at the next level. But most of what I see in the tape is him running 'by' the block. You can only really assess him by seeing game film when the competition isn't a team that you build your highlight film from.
If he gets good coaching applies to DPL kids, not these power house Catholic schools. He probably gets good coaching. When I saw St. Eds, Kettering Alter, etc. play, they are fundamentally sound kids, with basically college staffs and facilities. So when you see a 4 star kid from a school like this, vs. a 4 star kid from say, Cass Tech, I always believe the Cass Tech kid has the higher ceiling. That isn't a knock on the schools like Cass and Coach Wilcher, they just don't have the funds or support to run similiar programs.
That being said, this kid does run around most blocks, and why shouldn't he? There isn't enough here with him taking on blockers to know. I'm assuming our coaches have seen game film, and not just highlight clips, or at least I would hope.

They are desperatlely thin on OL numbers, especially given the fact that a couple they took last year were stretches. They also are thin at DB, listening to them, and I am not seeing many of those. They have a more DE's than can play on the field, and I believe took two last year. Throw in an extremely overrated DT, and I'm not that impressed. It's almost like Meyer came in and said I know what we need, but we are just going to swing for the fences with 5 star guys, and figure out how to convert them to OT at a later date. On signing day, we will be back in front of them, on paper and on the field.

All of their gear is supplied by the University, and needs to be returned when they are done, including shoes, gloves, jersey's, all of it. I don't think Tate was ever #3 based on talent. Having those other things out of the way, he is back where he belongs(ahead of a freshman), and looking good. What a great thing to have. Had the chance to ask a UM coach about Navarre and the batted ball syndrome, and he commented that at the time the crossing routes that UM ran were 5-7 yards shorter than most teams ran, by design, thus resulting in less room to 'float' a ball in. Big jump for beating a 1-3 byu team. So big wins over byu and cal, both with losing records. Just seems like a big jump.
