The perfect fuck you to the NCAA. It takes a lot of effort for them to do anything, just a crap ton of political capital spent and back slapping and probably deal brokering. As awful as that sounds. And at the end of it, what do they have - they've blocked someone taking an innovative action. They pay a price in accusations of hypocrisy and in some quarters ridiculed (again).
They still don't realize that Harbaugh won't give in. He's in love with this conflict because it's another way to win today, for his team and himself. How many times does the NCAA want to exchange these blows? Because the answer for Harbaugh is "limitless number." They'll tire and relent, or they'll spend inordinate amounts of time chasing one man for dubious purpose. In both cases Harbaugh wins.

Assuming his friend was male, at least they're no longer aiming their knockout blows at women. Good on you NCAA.
Goddell and the NCAA are made for each other.

In strict read of the rules and application, yes. But not in a relative view against other schools and players in similar situations. In a legal arena, past case law is always cited for current disputes. The "case law" here includes Davis and Vandenberg and others cited in this thread. In a common sense arena, you can't do for one or two or a few, and not do for another. It doesn't make any sense.
Since they've already walked away from their strict read of the rules, I can't accept this in principle without knowing why the others were granted exceptions and not Clark.

I think Ryan will play well but crack and make some bad throws; Brady won't and that it'll be it.

Could have been more specific, but what I meant was Frumorgen would be as good an option as Becton. Neither are playing next year and we should be in decent shape in '18.
With no idea what happened, it's impossible for you to make any judgment on the kid at all. Lots of scenarios, including "we've got another couple guys behind him we like and he needs a fresh start", are the more probable given Sweeney's glowing comments about his character.

The Frumorgen kid from Clemson would solve this particular problem. In two years tackle should be fairly "back." And Becton wasn't going to solve this year's troubles

They blocked drivers to the hoop, either individually or with help. They worked and starved Illinois on so many posessions. Held them to 24 points in the first half? Great stuff.

Isn't this just southern protectionism, mixed in with a little jeaolousy emanating from the have-nots in the midwest (for those B1G-footprint schools who may support the ban)?

247 had an article recently to the effect of "Nebraska lands nation's top slot WR, per 247", talking about Tyjon Lindsay (I'm sure I butchered that name). We'll apparently not, per 247.

Is that from the mgoblue roster? If yes it's very possible he's put on a good amount of weight since that training camp measurement.

What is he doing grabbing the guy's arm and falling down? He pinned the arm underneath and landed with his weight on it, could have seriously hurt that Louisville player. On top of it, he's flailing around and faking for the ref, as if he's being fouled. This dumb ass acting like he was hit in the face before he's actually slapped in the face a moment later. It's so justice.

They may be looking around, realizing nobody else is coming, an see an opportunity to get in the door to an elite high school and tweak M's nose by getting a head to head "win" if Taylor ends up there.
I wonder at what point we may go back after thekid who switched to BC. Tell him LB is off the table and he's a RB. Could do that if it looks like we'll only end up with 1 RB in the class

Unrelated, seeing Darnay Holmes ballz revert all the way back to UCLA is interesting. If true, would be a long way round to the team everyone assumed in the first place
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Irresponsible speculation||
Irresponsible speculation time: any chance Asiasi moves to DT? There are precious few options on the roster for conversion, and both OL and DL are needed. The kid's already larger than Hurst, according mgoblue.
Yes, he looks like a great one at TE and Harbaugh loves his TE and he'll never move him and this will never happen. But the need at DT seems so great. And the kid's a great athlete with power and I'd bet Mattison can get him playing really well.
|3 weeks 22 hours ago||Then he's just a RB and||
Then he's just a RB and you've lost the extra blocker. You've also limited the number of plays available drastically. Do you decoy and if yes, can he pass block? That's not easy to do as we all know. If you throw to him, can he catch?
10,000 mgopoints says if Harbaugh had done this late in the year (though by this I don't know exactly what you mean), ran the plays and it got stuffed - because to my original point all our stuff got stuffed in the red zone late in the year, which is what happens when you can't run or protect - you and a dozen others would be up in arms that Harbaugh didn't run the Pepcat. "It worked against Colorado and Rutgers and yada yada, why wouldn't we krep rinning it yada yada..."

Neither Irvin nor Robinson wanted that ball on the last posession. Hot potato.
And they let a freshman future dentist beat them. Never let a future dentist beat you.

|3 weeks 1 day ago||What are the alternatives?||
What are the alternatives? Have him throw? We tried that and teams sniffed it out. Use him as a receiver and catch the ball? That takes away the man advantage and none of us know if he can catch (jugs machine video or no).
You're talking about good teams late in the year who'd seen it. Maybe you don't put Peppers in, but he's your best player. And the regular offense wasn't doing much in the red zone those games either.
I agree no coach is infallible, but what is the alternative here besides observing that it didn't work as a fan and then complaining about it. Pepcat didn't work, regular offense didn't work. I say that's due to the limitations I note in my post above (which everyone already knows). But I'm open to a suggestion of what they should have done.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||What's interesting within the||
What's interesting within the "OSU doesn't have a passing game" story line is that most blame Barret's arm. It does seem at times as if they actually don't have a passing game, meaning no route tree or priority of reads. For so long it was run, run, run, chuck it deep to wide open guy. They have plays to get a TE open or pop a screen, but on 3rd and 8 there's no deep outs or corners or other multiple read combos with QB/WR timing that can meaningfully gain that yardage. It's another disguised play to get an athlete in space on a short throw and have them gain the distance.
Woefully oversimplifying and I understand they do have a tree and routes and all that, it just sometimes appears that they don't. Certainly in a game like this. And really their last 3 games against one decent and two excellent defenses. There's only so much practice time, and it's hard to find a QB that can make excellent reads in the run game, excel in that run game, and be a downfield passer.
They'll certainly be back though.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||You acknowledge that he's too||
You acknowledge that he's too soft at RB, then suggest putting him in at flex TE? Those guys hammer block and nearly every play and get a pass once a month. If you're suggesting you wouldn't have him block in that role but merely catch passes, you are making a case to tip a passing play every time he comes in, and that he has enough value as a receiving theat to alter the whole offense.
