the just released schedules were a flat-out statement that the B10 doesn't believe SOS will matter in playoff selection

With a Nickel able to play every down you're not relegated to playing the best four/five DB's. You will also be able to move a LB or DL out. The best 11 may be 3 DL, 3 LB's and 5 DB's or 4 DL, 2LB's and 5 DB's. |

| 7 weeks 2 days ago | Falcon, CO |
Falcon is a northern suburb of Coloraso Springs. They play in 4A, the 2nd highest classification in Colorado. It's a relatively new community and school. I've been in Colorado for 21 years and lived in Colorado Springs for a couple years when Falcon was still a praire.

| 13 weeks 4 days ago | SDE vs WDE |
SDE has to be a stud against the run as he may deal with more double teams at the point of attack. WDE, not so much. Here is decent article that explains it...kinda of: http://www.battleredblog.com/2009/7/23/958892/a-very-brief-introduction-...

| 28 weeks 4 days ago | Hoke’s Commitment Policy |
If my son or daughter is blessed to be recruited at this level as a father I would welcome Hoke's policy. Did yall read/hear about the kid from Texas that was commited to Oklahoma? The kid can't play football anymore.....OU decides to pull his scholly offer. Now before yall flame me about not being able to fulfill his end of the bargain answer this question, if the kid was commited to UM do you think Hoke pulls the offer given the same set of circumstances? |
| 34 weeks 4 days ago | WILL and MLB Reads |
Looks like Ross is taking the correct the steps based off of the Guard in front of him and RB action his way. When the game "slows" down for him i.e. more experience, he won't flow so hard with the action he is seeing causing him to be out of position. Bolden makes the correct read as well. Ideally he needs to meet the pulling TACKLE before he has a chance to square his shoulders to the line of scrimmage. When he can't meet the lineman before he squares up Bolden should have taken on the block on the outside shoulder forcing the RB inside to where the help (Ross) should be. The good behind this is: the LB's are reading and reacting to their reads and the mistakes that are made on this play are easily corrected. |

| 49 weeks 4 days ago | Deveon Smith |
Don't forget about one Mr. Smith. He was some great tools to work with and if five of the nine O-Linemen over the last to cycles work out you or I (well maybe you) might be able to gain 1,000 yards.

| 1 year 7 weeks ago | Inspired Play |
One thing Rabbit didn't mention and that is how incredibly inspired the Cadets play. It doesn't matter if they are down by 30 or up by 30, they play hard every play. What they give up in size and athletic ability they make up in playing their "roles" and knowing their responsibilities. Having played them I can tell you I feel safe knowing our country is in good hands. Thanks for servings guys.

| 1 year 34 weeks ago | TCU |
The way things are looking for the Big East right now, i would not be surprised if TCU becomes available. They would bring a huge TV market with a lot of UM fans in the area. Don't know how they stack up AAU-CIC wise, though. Plus the Big Ten gets a good Texas school with out the Texas politics. |
| 1 year 36 weeks ago | Hash-Zone Drops |
Looks like Herron may have been anticipating a different route by the reciever or he may have been going to a different (incorrect) zone and realized during the play his angle was wrong. It is encouraging to see "in" game improvements.
One other point, this particular play looks like UM is playing man coverage with inside help from Herron to the wide side and RVB on the short side. Carder makes the only right choice. From the start he reads where the pressure is coming from and gets it to the only open receiver. I do think Herron is at fault...some, but most of the credit should go to a good QB making a good read and throw.

| 1 year 36 weeks ago | Pass Coverage |
Erik, on the plays where UM blitzed, did you notice if the DB's were pressing or playing "off" their guys in coverage? Also, on the plays we did not blitz were our guys (DB's) playing closer to the line of scrimmage? Sorry for the mundane questions. I didn't see the game.

| 2 years 28 weeks ago | Couple questions for those |
Couple questions for those that want RR and GERG out: 1. If RR was hired for the University of Minnesota job after he was fired from U of M would you be worried?
2. After hearing all the rumors of RR's "medling" with the defensive schemes, not letting his DC's run the defense they are comfortable with and having a clear lack of talent how can we possibly blame the defensive fiasco on Greg Robinson? My answer to #1- I would be extremely anxious if RR went to any school in the Big Ten. Answer to #2- I don't think Greg Robinson is THE reason the Defense is bad; however, i'm not sold he is the answer either. He has way too much to overcome, lack of talent/depth and inability to run HIS defensive scheme to be judged fairly.....in my opinion. Call me an apologist, but I really think RR needs another year to truly see if the program is moving in the right direction. |
| 2 years 29 weeks ago | QB/LB isn't your typical HS |
QB/LB isn't your typical HS postion combination. The fact that he plays both means to me at least that he has a higher than average football IQ. After watching the video (I watched the one posted by Bossman on Youtube), I am convinced of three things: 1. he does have a good football IQ 2. he has the instincts needed to play LB in college (He plays down hill and he attacks the would be block and he stays behind the ball carrier as he is flowing) 3. the guy has decent footwork for a HS linebacker. I like the offer. |

| 2 years 32 weeks ago | Actually, Purdue and Illinois |
Actually, Purdue and Illinois are the teams I am most worried about because their offensive philosophy is to spread you out and make you play in space. That kind of O will really exploit our young D. The rest of the teams are going to come right at you, which gives us a better chance. |
| 2 years 32 weeks ago | We will play better!! |
An all out passing attack is tough to defend against. The rest of our schedule we will see I-formations. The schemes will be much more simple. Gerg will have the D ready. |

| 2 years 34 weeks ago | Observations of this play |
I am making the following analysis of this play based on the assumption Ezeh reads the guard in front of him (to the left of Martin) through to the action of the nearest back (ball carrier), Roh is reading the guard to Martin's right and through to the RB and Mouton is reading the same keys as Ezeh. Ezeh: has Guard action down (doubling Martin). Because Martin has already slanted to his right a nice hole opens up in front of Ezeh. Two things- Ezeh's keys tell him "run" and his first step should be forward and right; however, since Martin is slanting right his first step should be forward into the hole created by Martin's stunt and the double team block action. Roh: has Guard action at him (reach block), his first step should be right and forward attacking the guard's inside shoulder. RVB's appears to have outside contain to this side. Mouton: has same read as Ezeh. Based on Kovacs' action it appears the defensive play call dictates Mouton has outside contain. I think Mouton play is correct, although I would have liked to see him be more aggresive in taking on the TE. If Ezeh steps into the hole the guard has no chance to block him. He either makes a TFL or the RB has to bounce outside right now to a waiting Mouton. We are lucky the ball carrier's vision and feet aren't elite because Roh's missteps create a huge cut back lane. OK, I said all that to say Ezeh could have played this better, but it was a good play by the offense. EDIT: I type way to slow. Didn't see the SS's ILB read post. |

| 2 years 34 weeks ago | Five Months Ago |
If any one would have said five months ago we would be 3-0 with a convincing win against UConn and last minute 72 yard drive against Notre Dame I would have been giddy as a fat kid in a candy store. I do agree, the lack of fundamentals e.g. outside containment and tackling is frustrating; however, we knew our defense would make "freshmen" mistakes. Hopefully this was our one let down game and we will be o.k. to solid on D the rest of the way.
Here's to the glass being half full. |

I get a little teary eyed watching Brock's videos. |
| 2 years 42 weeks ago | Kovacs! |
Defense: I don't think he will be a surprise . I do think it will be a surprise how difficult it's going to be to beat him out. Kid is a player. Offense: Hemingway- no reason, just a feeling. Question, with the hopeful emergence of Banks and Campbell how likely is it that we see Michigan playing a 4-3 with RVB, Martin, Campbell and Banks in all at the same time? |

| 3 years 12 weeks ago | Good pick up |
I compared Conway's video with one of Kyle Prater's and didn't really see a big difference. Conway's QB doesn't appear to have the arm to get the ball down the field. if this is the case we wouldn't see a highlight film showing Conway's separation. FWIW I like the offer and acceptance. |

Furman's HS coach posted over on another forum that U of M and V-Tech are recruiting him as a hybrid LB/S a la Stevie Brown and that is Furman's preferred position. |
| 3 years 22 weeks ago | Coaching and Abuse |
This is a very "touchey" subject and a LOT of factors are to be considered. When I started playing football in the PAL I had a coach that slapped our helmets and yelled so much I cried all the home after practice. Funny thing is I believed this coach cared about me. Fast forward to college, there was a coach that cussed and screamed and occasionally grabbed facemasks and kicked players, this was in the late '80's. This guy was an a$$hole if there ever was one. The point I was trying to make is sometimes when a coach or parent "spanks" a kid it is warranted and the kid(s) know the difference. That's why so many former speak highly of Bo, Lombardi, Bryant, Knight, etc. Having said all that an abusive coach should be fired. |
| 3 years 22 weeks ago | Bo Pelini |
It's easier to turn a defense around when you have a bad azz space eater in the middle. Let's hope Martin and/or Campbell can be our "Suh" next year. |
| 3 years 22 weeks ago | Senior D-Linemen |
I totally agree W. Campbell will be key for the D for all the reasons stated above. Our senior D- linemen will need to step up big time. Assuming Campbell, Martin and Van Bergen are the starters we may be up the proverbial creek if either Martin and/or Campbell go down or simply get worn down. Sagesse, Banks and Patterson have to be able to play quality minutes next year. I am cautiously optimistic our D will be much improved even if we red shirt every in coming (summer enrollee)freshman. Our safteys will improve with a better understanding of the defense and their role within the scheme and more competition. A strong front 3/4 will by default make our inside LB's better and if we can get pressure with only the d-line our pass coverage will be better by default as well. |
| 3 years 23 weeks ago | CC has great technique |
I just think the six month head start Witty will enjoy might give him the edge. I know I will be a minor in this thought, but I think a secondary with Kovacs, Williams, Turner and Woolfolk might be better than the '09 secondary. This of course assumes William, Kovacs and Woolfolk improve between now and September. I don't see Kovacs starting every game next year, but he will be improved from last year and we can surely use his sure tackling vs teams like MSU, Wisconsin and other run dominate teams. |
| 3 years 23 weeks ago | Adrian Witty |
Of the cornerbacks coming in 2010 I am most intrigued by Adrian Witty. Considering he will go through spring ball, has very good speed and the coaches spoke highly of him while he was practicing with the team this summer, he may be more ready than any of the other 2010 corners to play next year. |
| 3 years 24 weeks ago | More D-linemen |
He all, thanks for letting me get involved in U of M football (recruiting) discussions. I not sure siging Talbott, Hankins and Beachum would be over kill. I can see Hankins at NT, Talbott at DT and Beachum (considering his athleticism) at the DE spot. If we did sign all three and Martin, Roh, Campbell and Lalota continue to improve I can see G-Robinson's D being much more versatile. I also feel strong D-lines hide A LOT of weaknesses in the LB'ing group. If anything, with a strong core of athletic D-linemen we could play more 4-3. Edit- forgot about Paskorz and Wilkins. All three probably would be over kill. |
