The more I learn about football, the more I realize how little I understand.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||I happened to stop by the Mden yesterday||
and stumbled into a pair. I've never had a pair of Jordan's and thought it would be cool (although ridiculous at the same time given my age of 38). I didn't realized how much of a secondary market there was until I got home and started looking stuff up. People are listing these for a lot of money on Ebay. What's the strategy in trying to resell these. As much as I like them, I would happily trade them for enough money to buy airfare to one of Michigan's bowl games this year.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||Great post.||
Based on when you created your account and the lack of points you have (I know, don't mention them), I'm going to have to assume you don't post that often. However, after reading such a quality post, I'm going to have to ask that you write more frequently.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||I was in the same situation.||
Medically speaking, getting a vasectomy is the best option for the team. Nothing is 100%, but that procedure is pretty darn close. Side effects are much less problematic, which is why it's the right choice, IMO (vs ectopic pregnancies, adhesions, more complicated perioperative infectious course if present).
Agree with the sentiment, though, that you need to make sure the procedure is successful. Have them check to make sure the safety is "on" before you get back into the swing of things.
When I had mine, my MD was a Michigan grad and knew that I was a big fan. He asked me to talk about the upcoming season during the procedure to take my mind off of it. The only time I experienced discomfort was when I mentioned Borgess. I should have taken that as a sign.

Your first post gave great information. Your second post was pleasant and constructive in explaining your opinion
|5 weeks 5 days ago||Forbidden Island is a good alternative||
to Pandemic. Easier, but you all still share a common goal. A lot less likely for someone to take full control.
My wife and I have really enjoyed the Project Gipf games. They aren't being made anymore, so when you find them online, they can be expensive. Try looking at websites like coolstuffinc. I think Yinsh is the best of them. We have all of them (6), and apparently you can put them all together to make one super-game, but there is no way we'd ever have a whole day to commit to something like that.
Great idea for a thread, btw.
|6 weeks 5 days ago||Agreed||
I know a lot of people are upset about two consecutive in South Bend, but since we're playing only two games with this contract it really doesn't matter. Either way it'll be one here and one there.
|9 weeks 4 days ago||Agree completely||
It's probably even worse for them, though. The Grinch takes what he wants on only ONE day a year.
|12 weeks 2 days ago||I have to go with||
"Platoon." Runner up would be "Full Metal Jacket."
|13 weeks 4 days ago||I'm at a school function||
right now with the kiddo. One of the teachers, all decked out in Spartan gear, continues to just randomly say "Go green." He knows we are a Michigan family, because my daughter wears Michigan stuff to school. Quite certain he's just trolling. I'm obviously not going to get into it with him re: Michigan's superior academic reputation. I really need Michigan to win that damn game this year to shut up all the buttholes like that guy.
|16 weeks 4 days ago||Rudock turned into a different QB after that game as well.||
If we have second-half of the season version of Rudock, we win that game.
I guess you could make the argument that we got outcoached on that very last play of the game. As great as Baxter is, there is no excuse for being in any formation other than max protect for that kick.

I'm conducting interviews this week for our office. If someone I interview asks my "why now and not last week/month when I sent in my resume," there is a zero percent chance they get the job.
I agree with Meyer's humanity being immeasurably small, but I don't mind him answering a loaded question with a little attitude.
|21 weeks 5 days ago||Half day today.||
Ladies are leaving at 8 am and gone for the weekend.
|21 weeks 5 days ago||IIRC||
Michigan was on a PP at the time. Miss that, and Minnesota shoots the puck 200 feet to the other end killing tons of time on that PP. Also, you have to make sure you don't somehow take your stick above the cross bar in the process. Go too high, but still use some momentum/centripetal force to keep the puck on the stick and bring it back down, and you've committed high sticking that blows the play dead. The goal itself was amazing. How/when he did it was more than macho.
|22 weeks 4 hours ago||That's the best idea for regionals.||
I don't know what the #2 idea is, but it isn't even close to that one.
|23 weeks 4 days ago||Agree completely||
If you want to make a tournament that has the best teams in it, Michigan is undeniably one the top 68 (minus auto-bids and such).
The only way you can justify choosing a school like Monmouth over Michigan is if you are hoping to create the Cinderella-type drama that the casual fan wants. Michigan beating a team like California in the first round does not create as much of that than if Monmouth wins a game.
|26 weeks 1 day ago||No question, that would have been||
the best type of response.
Never take a one day story and turn it into a two day story. Or in the this case, an entire offseason story.
|27 weeks 3 days ago||Couldn't agree more.||
I was watching the second half with my 7 year old daughter. It was easily one of the best "Michigan moments" of my life. We got home from the in-laws and watched the entire second half together. She was always either resting her elbow or head on my shoulder.
After almost every whistle, I tried to explain to her what just happened analytically.
When MAAR went on his "my hands are faster than lightening" kick, it made me tingle to say to my daughter "That's why we work hard, sweetie. We do our best, and good things sometimes happen."

|30 weeks 5 days ago||Couldn't agree more.||
I think the mistake is that people think "could this guy hit a big kick with the game on the line?" That's a big deal, but happens infrequently. What an excellent kicker will do is change probabilities when your team has the ball near field goal range.
3rd and 11 from the opponents 30 means, with an average kicker, you are trying to gain a few yards to make the kick more reasonable. If you have a an excellent kicker, your possible play selection increases. More variance = harder to stop. Of course these decisions are fluid with the game state, and variable per each coach. But, in an important area of the field where drives can stall, I think that accurate leg gives you a pretty significant intangible advantage.
|32 weeks 6 days ago||Not a history nearly as storied as the #1,||
but I kinda got chills when I read that. I mean, Brandon Graham wore the number. That makes 55 a really big deal.

|38 weeks 6 days ago||"Super weird,||
(but) mostly incredible" pretty much nails it.
I love how they ended it by basically saying they like Michigan more.
|39 weeks 2 days ago||I actually think you played that perfectly.||
Yesterday we had a family gathering. My wife comes from an entire family of Spartans. Her uncle, easily the most inflammatory of all of them, basically asked me to justify how Harbaugh could even be considered as good of a coach as Dantonio.
"It took Dantonio 4 years to win more than 9 games in a season at MSU. Harbaugh has at least two chances to do that in year one at Michigan."
I set the trap for him to respond with "yeah, but it's easier to win at Michigan." Of course he took it. I then responded with "yep, even after our 130+ year nadir as a program, it's still a better place to coach than MSU."
|39 weeks 3 days ago||I think it's stupid either way.||
As a fan, I don't talk shit to any players when I'm in attendence, but I think a player or coach should absolutely never retaliate. They are representing a university. I am not. It's the same double standard we all have to deal with in our jobs. Someone can walk into my place of business and call me a "fucking dick." If I retaliate, I'm likely to be fired.
To go one step further, my behavior is not being witnessed by thousands of youngsters. Like it or not, part of the responsibility these players and coaches have is that they are role models. The standard for their behavior should be higher.
I'm not losing sleep about this either way. But I agree with the general sentiment that Cook's/MSU's behavior really does embody "little brother." Doesn't matter how good they are. They act like juggalos. As Brian said, a truer thing has never been spoken than to call them "little brother."
|39 weeks 3 days ago||Agreed.||
I think it's going to be as soon as "one week from now us."
|41 weeks 3 days ago||Succinctly, we are relevant again.||
Lots of talking heads predicted 7 wins or so this year. I mean, we all kinda hoped Harbaugh would turn things around quickly, but didn't necessarily expect it. But clearly, we have a head coach that is not only a perfect fit in Ann Arbor, but is an elite-level coach.
I think Rudock is a solid QB, and seems like a great kid. But when this offense gets a guy that can manage a game and hit the deep ball, we will be top-5 caliber.
Enjoy the ride ladies and gents. As long as Harbaugh is here, we will be the Michigan we all remember.
|42 weeks 3 days ago||After 2008, I swore I would never take bowl eligibility||
for granted again. Pretty much every single goal all Michigan teams have can not be met until after obtaining bowl eligibility. That's not to say kids come to Michigan to just go to any bowl. But, it's a integral checkpoint down the path of a successful season.
It's 15 extra practices. It's an extension of the Michigan football offseason solstice. It's a huge deal.
|44 weeks 5 days ago||Agree with all of it.||
Jake will hit the deep ball at least once in this game.
As a fan, I'm always very excited for this game. But this year's edition has got to be the most intriguing that I can remember in years.
|45 weeks 3 days ago||Then have someone stand next to you||
with a chintzy sign painted green that says "I actually got into both schools, but I chose MSU."
I think every MSU alum I've ever met has said something like that to me.
|45 weeks 3 days ago||"Win out and its moot"||
I think that is completely accurate and it blows my mind. If Michigan were to win out, they would almost assuredly make the playoff. Of course, that's always the goal. But for this season, that was certainly not the expectation I had set. It still isn't, but it's sure as hell fun to talk be able to legitimately discuss.
|45 weeks 3 days ago||We are moving in the right direction.||
Regardless of the outcome next weekend, that is clear. Moving "in the right direction" is a course we haven't been on in years as a program. That alone makes me ecstatic.
This season is starting to have that special feel to it as well. I would have been content with just "right direction." But now it's truly starting to feel like, every week, we are going to find a way to win the next game.
|45 weeks 6 days ago||Yeah me too.||
When I clicked on the thread, I was half expecting that I was going to read something like "seriously, bluewave720, it really IS Friday. Congrats, you are in the movie Vanilla Sky."
What's worse, is that since I so deperately wanted to believe that it was Friday, I just read all the comments in case I could find something like that buried in the thread.
|47 weeks 3 days ago||PPR league||
In my flex I have to choose C.J. Anderson vs Andre Johnson. I've watched both Bronco games, and their offense looks pretty bad right now. But, Johnson has clearly underwhelmed thus far in Indy. I have a feeling Johnson is going to get back on track today. I also think Detroit is going play much improved team defense tonight.
|50 weeks 5 days ago||This is the most optimistic I've felt after a loss||
in years. That's a spectrum I never want to be on, but, IMO, there really were a lot of positives last night. Big mistakes will always cost you games, and that needs to be fixed. I think it will. But, I saw Michigan do a lot of little things that good teams do.
I know I will be excited for every game this season. I haven't felt that way the past several years and it killed me. I have the feeling that the Michigan team we see in November would soundly beat the Michigan team we see in early September. That development will be an enjoyable process to watch.
|50 weeks 5 days ago||Agree completely||
We made some of the bigger mistakes that will almost always cost you games, and that needs to be fixed. I think it will. But, I felt like we did a lot of little things that good teams do. It sucks after all the hype to have to wait for a win on the field, but this is the most encouraged I've felt after a loss in years.

2004 Rose Bowl
Then I got married in 2006, so, like, Big Ten/Bowl tour is currently on hold.
2005 Wisconsin (night game) was the worst experience we ever had. It was the last season for Alvarez. We almost had to fight our way out of 2 different encounters with many Badger fans and we totally weren't being dicks. Just wearing Michigan shirts.

My confession is that I have broken an unspoken rule my wife and I have re: neutrality. When the wife is around, I'm all "both great schools." When it's just me and the kiddo, I say things like "in all seriouslness, Michigan is one of the top ranked schools in the country. When you're a little older, I'll take you through the dorms and show you where I lived my first year."
My kid is 6, but has already informed my inlaws (also both State grads) that she will be attending the University of Michigan.

I posted above (or below, I'm on the app) that I'm such an addict with MTG. I play online as much as I can (limited) and continue to build EDH decks without really having many people to play with face-to-face.
|1 year 1 week ago||I'm still addicted to Magic||
I was hoping I'd find someone else mention it. I'm 37 and have come to grips with the fact that I love a collectible card game designed for teenagers. I play online all the time. While driving to and from work, I only listen to strategy podcasts on how to improve. My wife and daughter are very supportive of my inner nerd, just so long as I don't put it before them. I wake up at 5am on weekend mornings to play online keeping all of us happy.

|1 year 8 weeks ago||If this is true, Hackett is an absolute legend.||
In less than a year, he hired the most sought-after coach in all of football and (likely) made an apparel contract change that by many insiders will significantly effect recruiting in a positive way. He has earned years of support. So, after cleaning up some huge messes and earning all the positive support associated with those changes, he may leave the athletic department to an excellent long-term candidate? I will be disappointed if he ever has to pay for a drink in Ann Arbor again.
|1 year 12 weeks ago||I'm not in favor of Michigan||
playing a game at a race track. But I would imagine a game vs ND after a several year hiatus would sell enough tickets to fill pretty much any man-made stadium.
|1 year 14 weeks ago||Hmmmm||
I hated the bumblebee uniforms, but we were wearing them when State beat us.
I hated the 'Bama uniforms, but of course, that game was a nightmare.
I loved the uniforms we wore while winning the Sugar Bowl.
I love the original uniforms, as Michigan has won far more games than they've lost while wearing them.
Speaking for myself, it appears as though I really love whatever Michigan is wearing as long as they are winning football games.
|1 year 15 weeks ago||It's the first Friday in May,||

|1 year 16 weeks ago||I either reciprocate it,||
or if I'm really fired up, I say "Hell yeah!"
|1 year 18 weeks ago||Just my opinion||
Agree with you 100% though that the bigger issue last year was coaching.
|1 year 18 weeks ago||For me, it's hard to say.||
Last year's team was more talented than 5 wins, they just weren't mentally tough. I think if Harbaugh was our coach last year, we win 8-9 games. So, how much of a jump should we expect? Going from 5-win talent to achieving 10 wins is too much to ask for. But going from 8 to 10 certainly wouldn't be. I would be surprised if we won 7 or less. But I won't be surprised if we win 10.
|1 year 18 weeks ago||Speaking of stupid,||
there was an MSU fan near me in the student section during that game. After MSU took a 3-0 lead, he yelled "scoreboard" a bunch of times. He probably heard "scoreboard" yelled at him about 1,000 times over the next 3 hours.
|1 year 28 weeks ago||+1||

Oh, yeah, and that sounds like some pretty important news as well.
|1 year 31 weeks ago||I hope you are right.||
I love this time of year. It's either boring because our class is set, and that's a good thing. Or we are in the mix for some last minute commits/flips, and that's an exciting thing.
|1 year 33 weeks ago||I am of the opinion,||
that if the OL is as good as his previous iterations, our offense will be very good.
I am also of the opinion that I will say "Drevno? More like Drevyes!" far too often after TDs. I will hold my hand up for high-5s after each of those comments, and rightfully be left hanging.
|1 year 36 weeks ago||I don't think Harbaugh||
would string Michigan along. But he may just be stringing along the NFL.
|1 year 36 weeks ago||Agree completely||
If JH is not our next head coach, I think this is the biggest reason why.
|1 year 36 weeks ago||From everything I've heard about the||
SF front office, they sound crazy and angry enough to fire JH early next week if the 49ers are eliminated. If this is a good and decent world, we may actually have him as a coach by next weekend.
|1 year 36 weeks ago||Weber committing to OSU is a dong punch.||
But our RB situation is awesome right now, IMO. We are loaded. Ty Isaac isn't a high-level recruit. He has, like, actual college stats. We have an embarrassing wealth of talent at the RB position. As many have said in this thread, if we hire the right coach, we don't have anything to worry about.
|1 year 37 weeks ago||Kinda sounds||
like you're nitpicking, now.
|1 year 37 weeks ago||That's the key distinction, IMO.||
If I go to Vegas, sure, I'll throw a bet on something like this without much thought as that bet is just entertainment for me. But Vegas lines don't usually move big amounts because dudes like me put $50 on a bet like this. For the pro gambler, this is how they make a living. They don't just throw money on a prop bet because it sounds fun. The bet has to be researched prior to being placed.
IMO, this is definitely a good sign. But with the caveat that it's a good sign on 12/6/14. These coaching searches seem to have a lot of moving parts. No guarantee that whatever info is out there is accurate in a few days.
|1 year 37 weeks ago||I've lost sleep this||
week as I am so excited about JH becoming our next head coach. Whether it happens or not, it's been fun being excited about Michigan football again.
|1 year 39 weeks ago||Awesome group of guys.||
I will really miss DG. As far as performances go, I will always remember ND UTL II and his unreal performance against OSU with a malfunctioned lower body.
I really love his video board intro as well. When everyone else is saying "Name, year and major" he has his "Devin Gardner . . . I already graduated" and then smiles.
I have always felt as though we have an embarrassing wealth of great kids here. I know there are great kids who play everywhere, but we just have so damn many. I really hope these guys grab a win and bowl eligibility today.
|1 year 40 weeks ago||I got in trouble by reading||
this at work and laughing very loudly. I tried to explain it to those around me and they looked at me like I'm crazy.
|1 year 41 weeks ago||Well, MSU beat us by 24.||
If OSU beats them by 27 and we beat OSU by 28+, we could still celebrate winning the Tri-Wizard Tournament.
|1 year 42 weeks ago||I agree.||
I'm not usually in favor of "everyone should go." I like the idea of maintaining at least a couple of good guys to help with transition for the players. Even a guy or two who could tell the new staff in private "yeah, but you can't really do that/say that/whatever here." (WR gets the #1 type of stuff)
But right now, with as toxic as this program has been lately, I really think everyone's gotta go. We need a fresh start. That includes you (looks over at Adidas).
|1 year 43 weeks ago||I love the idea of fans contributing||
money to alter uniforms. But I'd go one step further and make it a competition. So for tomorrow's game, if Michigan fans donated more money, MSU is wearing the pink. The more we beat them by, the more pink they wear.
|1 year 44 weeks ago||I agree, Narduzzi has totally earned a shot,||
but nowhere near Ann Arbor. Dantonio's crush for OSU was always very obvious. I would not be able to handle Narduzzi having the same affection for MSU if he was our head coach. I also think he would defer to Dantonio on the recruiting trail. It's ok to respect your opponents, but you can't be cool with them being your alpha.
I honestly would worry about a Trojan horse, I don't care how stupid that sounds.
Also, I honestly think MD keeps telling Narduzzi that soon he will retire, and the MSU gig is Pat's.
I was really bummed when Narduzzi didn't take the Uconn job last year.
|1 year 44 weeks ago||It feels very fitting.||

Excellent write up, thanks for posting. All 3 sound like a tremendous upgrade. I have a feeling President Schlissel would have a lean towards Bates. But, yeah, they all sound great.
|1 year 45 weeks ago||Will also be interesting to see||
what happens to the loser of FSU and ND. If ND loses to FSU, but then wins out, they will also be in the conversation. In part, annoyingly, because they are ND.
I think a playoff system is a good thing. But the politics and lobbying is going to really suck. Even if every SEC team has 2 losses, there will be a big push to put at least one, if not two of them in the playoff.
|1 year 45 weeks ago||Agree.||
I think MSU probably gets "jobbed" by the 2nd SEC team that gets in.
It's actually pretty interesting, IMO. On the one hand, they did schedule Oregon. But of course, on the other, the B1G is just so bad this year.
We will keep seeing articles about this until they get another loss this year. Here's to that happening on 10/25.
|1 year 46 weeks ago||I really appreciate this thread||
The only negative for me, was that I had a roaring laugh after reading it and again with the Pelini pic. I work in an oncology office and it always feels inappropriate to me to laugh too hard at work. I'm pretty sure everyone around me just negged me in their heads.
|1 year 46 weeks ago||I disagree||
The more I think of Jim Harbaugh being our head coach, the better I feel. I know the chances are highly unlikely. But, if you'd have told me in 2006 that we'd have TWO different stretches of 3-9 and the worst loss in the history of the sport all while watching MSU ascend to the top of the conference, I would have said that was highly unlikely too.
|1 year 46 weeks ago||Congrats!!!||

The display = +1
The parallels for this season = +1*
*Michigan player wearing #2 making an awesome/aggresive play in the first game of a national championship season with a a 5th year QB, an underappreciative local media, an upcoming road win in East Lansing, and an also impending 7 point victory against ND.
Well done, man.
|1 year 51 weeks ago||The funny thing is,||
as a Michigan fan, we can't recite history without being made fun of. "Typical Wolverine, always talking about the past." Fine. Let's talk about what happens this season. This isn't the ASU team that scortched DII en route to winning multiple national championships. Nor is this a complacent Michigan program.
I'm a big fan of "jinxes," but there is nothing to jinx here. We are going to beat the shit out of App St. We may get catcalls from what happened in '07, we may get told that it's not a big deal, but we are going to crush those guys tomorrow.
When you read "80-3" on a message board, it's usually a joke. I don't think that's going to be far from the truth tomorrow.
|1 year 51 weeks ago||Thanks for posting all these.||
I always enjoy reading articles that increase my understanding of football strategy. I totally understand if you aren't interested in tweeting much during games anymore, but if you change your mind, I promise I'll read ALL of your tweets.
|2 years 2 days ago||My draft is tomorrow||
and I also have the first pick. Was thinking I'd go with Charles, but actually kinda hoping I can trade down.
|2 years 1 week ago||Adaptation.||
That is such a critical quality for any coach to have, IMO. You have to walk that fine line where you adapt, yet continue to work toward your own philosophy. Borges seemed to have been doing that in year one. We won 11 games. Last year, he seemed completely unwilling to adapt to in-game situations. Many situations from last year come to mind, but the 37-for-37 against PSU and calling play-action TEN times vs MSU immediately stand out.
As long as we have a guy who is willing to adapt, we'll be fine. We've got enough talent to win games as long as we do that. If Borges adapted last year, we beat PSU and Iowa and the whole lens we see this upcoming season through is different
|2 years 2 weeks ago||Made my morning as well.||
I just realized, when we play them in Columbus this year, it's very likely the fans use that pose to replace the "H" in all their cheers. Of course, all the double-birds will be aimed at our bench. Oh what a classy sight that will make.

|2 years 21 weeks ago||Those are both fantastic.||
I understand the logistics behind getting these made into t-shirts (on time) would be a nightmare, but either would be about the coolest thing one could wear to the game tonight.
|2 years 22 weeks ago||Well said.||
I've often fantasized about how I'd handle my recruitment if I were a 5-star bluechip. It always ends with me saying something like "I'll commit to you, Michigan, but don't waste anymore time on me. Recruit other guys, I'll be there in the fall."
|2 years 22 weeks ago||I love that he actually put stuff like||
"Three Fiesta Bowl Championships/One Rose Bowl Championship/One Sugar Bowl Championship."
I won't even go into how the "One Sugar Bowl Championship" is actually zero Sugar Bowl Championships per the NCAA. Entries like that just look so out of place and silly when applying to be the president of a university. Also, I'm pretty sure you aren't supposed to use backslashes when applying for a job that prestigious.

I think this season has totally worn on Izzo. Not just whats wrong with MSU, but what's going well for Michigan. Izzo is still an excellent coach, and I will never look at MSU's tourney draw and say "well, we know they won't get past ____."
But this season, he keeps hearing how great Coach Beilein is and how good (and young) our hoops program is. I'm sure he's not too excited to think about next year either when he looks down his bench trying to guess which "weird kid" is going to start next year.
He isn't #1 in our state any more. He knows this. It's killing him.
|2 years 24 weeks ago||Well if you're at the bar,||
you may want to go with "assy in lassy" instead. Some chicks are really proud of their buns.
|2 years 24 weeks ago||It blows my mind how Izzo gets the "classy guy"||
title from the media. If he wins, he's somewhat classy. But if he loses, he whines, makes excuses, and now apparently yells at women.
Putting the "assy" in classy, I guess.
|2 years 24 weeks ago||I agree with Zack Novak.||
HELL YES, BIG TEN CHAMPS!!!
|2 years 26 weeks ago||I've heard this from multiple people.||
You can be tough and "hard edged" but still be respectful towards other people. Not a lot of people, let alone coaches, can pull this off. But it appears coach B does. Impossible not to love that guy.
|2 years 27 weeks ago||I'm a healthcare practitioner||
and I work in oncology. The guy that told me this was going to die soon. So, yeah, I maybe didn't do a great fact check. You got me. Well done, man.
|2 years 27 weeks ago||But what if moon dust is||
different than Earth dust? This was 50 yrs ago. I'm not saying people weren't comfortable with how this would turn out. I'm saying that maybe Armstrong wasn't comfortable. And that would make him really brave for doing what he did. The entire crew. That's all I'm trying to say. Those guys were bad ass.
|2 years 27 weeks ago||I asked the same question.||
Apparently, the width of the landing gear could have prevented it from falling. Kind of like a snow shoe.
|2 years 27 weeks ago||I don't know, man.||
I feel like one could also say that Michigan vs Ohio State at the end of November is just a regular season game. While technically correct, that description is clearly lacking.
|2 years 27 weeks ago||Agree.||
I have always wished that would be changed to "go blue." Saying something supportive is never out of place.
|2 years 27 weeks ago||How do we haze this guy?||
Since he's Mr. Falk's successor, do we, like, not pay attention to him for a couple decades? Wait until he's had to secure/protect/present a rivalry trophy multiple times? Wait until our guys require essential halftime equipment changes that tangibly increase our chances to win?
|2 years 28 weeks ago||This is the most insightful post||
I've read on this situation.
|2 years 28 weeks ago||This is a tough call, IMO||
The biggest problem, is that this is public. This feels unfair to MM. On the other hand, I wouldn't want my kid to go anywhere that I felt wouldn't meet his/her academic needs either. I hate ND, but I would never stop my kid from going there, as it is an excellent institution. With what we are hearing about MSU, however, I would probably dig my heels in on this as well.
|2 years 28 weeks ago||So what happens if Seattle lost?||
Would he have had to move to an underdeveloped country where inaccurate championship t-shirts get sent?
|2 years 29 weeks ago||That's awesome.||
I feel like it's always worth a fistpump to see anyone who isn't a post-pubescent male wearing Michigan hockey gear.
I live near Ann Arbor.
|2 years 30 weeks ago||Agree||
Seems pretty silly to blame the fans for MSUs success over the past 15-20 years. I was thinking it was more secondary to the implosion of our program brought on by egregious violations of NCAA rules committed by our players/coaches. That plus Izzo being an excellent coach taking advantage of the opening provided.
|2 years 30 weeks ago||When I'm elderly||
and have dementia, I will still remember Zack Novak from that MSU game. Thinking about that performance always gives me chills.
|2 years 31 weeks ago||Holy Crap!||
For some reason, my buddies and I love us some Jean-Claude Van-Dancin'. But the one we reference most is the scene from Kickboxer where he gets drunk and dances while wearing a "back thong." This is incredible.
|2 years 31 weeks ago||It's so funny this was posted today||
As I left work today, a work contact tried to guess my age. Unsolicited. And guessed I was TEN years older than I actually am.
|2 years 31 weeks ago||I have trained/worked in medicine for 15 years.||
I have never heard of someone surviving a sixtuple bypass.
You are one tough hombre. Strong work, man. Good luck on a speedy recovery.
|2 years 31 weeks ago||I actually agree with "Heisman talk."||
I don't care if DG wins a Heisman, and I would actually imagine he doesn't either. But despite the issues we had offensively, he showed that he can be an elite QB. Add in the fact that we have an OC now with a better track record at developing QBs and I don't think it's a stretch to say he could make some noise for the Heisman.
|2 years 32 weeks ago||Maybe.||
But it seemed to me that he was either unwilling or incapable of making in-game adjustments. He proved this during the MSU, Nebraska, and PSU games in particular.
IMO, coaches at this level should be able to make in-game adjustments (with relative ease) and consistently obtain the maximum productivity from the talent they have. I don't think Borges was able to do either.
The oline was a disaster most of the season, and part of that was definitely not Al's fault. But I think every offense has a deficiency that has to be overcome. That's one of the "minigames" the coordinators have to deal with at this level. That said, I agree with the general sentiment in this thread and hope he does well for himself. So, I hope he doesn't go to ND, so that I can pull for him to be successful.
|2 years 32 weeks ago||Great post||
What I find interesting, is that coaches are usually only considered "loyal" when it comes to their staff. But if Coach Hoke believes what he says about Michigan, and I truly think he does, his loyalty would more likely be towards this program. This program is a symbol. Something that millions of people are emotionally and financially tied to. Firing Borges, although obviously difficult, would be superseded by the loyalty Hoke has to Michigan.
|2 years 32 weeks ago||No||
It means we don't LOSE in the national title game for hoops.
|2 years 32 weeks ago||I respectfully disagree.||
I think Countess is definitely a playmaker. I also think Ramon Taylor is actually pretty good, and could make the jump next year. IMO, there may be a few more that could cross that threshold as well.
I totally agree with you that it is very unlikely that 2014 will be the return of the 2006 defense. But besides '06, I think it will be the best defense we've had in quite a while.
Despite ending the season in a poor fashion, I still have a high degree of faith in Mattison. But as I think many of us are feeling for next year, he/Borges/the coaches in general will really be the "difference makers" as to whether or not 2014 is a successful season.
|2 years 33 weeks ago||Don't know what the kid did,||
but not sure he necessarily deserved that.
What I find ironic, is that the older man was probably just like that little shit 40 years ago. At least, that's the backstory I would expect from a guy who would kick someone in the face at a football game.
|2 years 33 weeks ago||I agree with you||
and am pretty sure we are not in the minority.
|2 years 33 weeks ago||Me either||
Resources are finite. Everytime a regional rival does well, it potentially deprives us of the resources we want. This isn't sour grapes. Right now, and for as long as that staff is in EL, MSU is for real. IMO, pulling for MSU is loosing sight of the war. They aren't to be taken lightly. They aren't li'l bro. They are a team that has beat us 5 out of 6, are in our backyard, and won't ever give up against us. A win tomorrow helps them in recruiting. Right now, that is the only place we have been beating them.
Go Cardinal. Go Blue.
|2 years 36 weeks ago||I have worked as an oncology healthcare practitioner||

Fuck you, cancer. You irredeemable, selfish, worthless sack of crap. When you take people from us, we don't ever remember you. We remember the toughness and grace of the people who fought you. Although your treachery knows no bounds, neither does our resilience. We will eventually beat you. Fuck you.

|2 years 38 weeks ago||Narduzzi to Nebraska seems like a strong possibility to me.||
But I wonder if the folks in Nebraska are a little gunshy with the "DC who's not really fun to talk to."
I do think Narduzzi gets that level of job, though.
|2 years 38 weeks ago||+1||
Most informative post I've read on the interwebz, in, like, ever.
|2 years 39 weeks ago||Lol, this game isn't going to OT||
Taylor is going to pick off Braxton at the end of regulation to seal the deal. Michigan wins 20-17.
|2 years 40 weeks ago||I remain cautiously optimistic||
about Michigan football.
|2 years 43 weeks ago||Agree.||
If we don't put this game in Devin's hands, we will lose. Of course, he might make too many mistakes and we lose. But that's better than the alternative.
|2 years 43 weeks ago||Love the optimism,||
but I would be very surprised if we win big in this game. I agree with your thought about our D vs their O, though. We have a deceptively good defense and it's suited to stop an offense like this.
|2 years 43 weeks ago||I thought Friday is a big day too.||
I remember hearing that's when the "sharps" come in and lay some real money on lines that have drifted too far in one direction.
|2 years 43 weeks ago||Pretty spot on, IMO.||
It's funny that people describe Devin as having flashes of brilliance mixed in with huge mistakes. Al seems to fit the same description.
|2 years 43 weeks ago||Thanks for posting this.||
I was going to be stuck in the purgatory of watching the TV show Parenthood. Now, I'm being a gentleman by letting my wife have the TV, and I'm getting to watch this game. A game I thought I wouldn't be able to watch.
|2 years 45 weeks ago||I'm holding my grade for now.||
I agree that the last 4 games have been concerning. However, how/if we change our ideology following this game will certainly influence my grade.
In 2011, after the Iowa loss, we stopped trying to force manball and let Denard be Denard.
In both cases, I felt as though it represent a needed, but likely philosophically uncomfortable change by the staff.
I am cautiously optimistic that we'll see a similar type of change after last night and we'll stop regressing as a team.
|2 years 46 weeks ago||1. 2003 Minnesota||
2. 2004 Rose Bowl
3. 2002 Purdue. About 4 days prior to that game, I broke up with a long-term girlfriend who was very uncool about my football addiction. I remember waking up on that Thursday and realizing how nobody was going to try to stop me from going. Understanding that you are now "free" is pretty damn great.
|2 years 48 weeks ago||Neither answer is wrong||
But I always pull for ND in this one. My hatred for Staee has grown over the years more than my disdain for ND. Also, we always want our rivals to lose and ND isn't a rival. /s
|2 years 49 weeks ago||Still not early enough.||
I used to have a recurring nightmare that I would awaken from a coma to find out that I had missed the Michigan football season. I would yell at the nurses and doctors to leave me alone. Then, I would have a friend bring me all the games on tape so that I could watch them one at a time in sequential order. My worry now is that I awaken from a coma to find out the medical staff got me up just in time for the week preceding that game.
|2 years 49 weeks ago||I remember looking up Gerg's "stats" for his last||
season at Texas (co DC) prior to going Syracuse. Before their bowl game, Texas gave up 3 second half points all season. I thought we landed a Mattison/Tenuta type of DC when we got Gerg. Clearly, I was wrong. Also, clearly, Gerg likes to rub my face in it. And by "it" I mean a stuffed animal.
|2 years 50 weeks ago||My ears are still ringing.||
Granted, we were yelling so loud that the lady in front of us left after the first quarter. I felt bad, but, like, if I'm there, I'm supposed to yell loud, right?
|2 years 50 weeks ago||On a blog full of awesome/insightful comments,||
your Tommy Rees description is the best I've read in awhile.
I share your concern. I really think Michigan wins tomorrow, but I doubt Rees is the player who beats ND.
|2 years 50 weeks ago||And shortly following that was a||
"Houston's Better" chant. Because Houston actually scored a FG on us. That was awesome.
|2 years 51 weeks ago||Agreed. It's a positive feedback loop.||
If you are recruiting well, you can afford to play the freshman. Playing true freshman (who deserve to be on the field) helps you recruit better.
|2 years 52 weeks ago||So good.||
I went to Michigan for undergrad and Central for grad school. Of course, goes without saying, I'm hoping Michigan rolls on Saturday & I don't want a close game. As much as I like the idea of Michigan curbstomping everybody they play, I'm always in the "respect your opponent" camp. Probably a little more for CMU than I would for most other schools. As such, I really enjoy this wallpaper. I mean, I enjoy all your entries, but this one feels perfect. Well done.
|3 years 2 weeks ago||Agree||
You lose a "pipeline" school when you are not genuine with a recruit or string him along. That certainly isn't the case here.
It's all good. This is a really good situation for both Cass and MSU. In the long run, I don't see this as being a big concern for Michigan going forward with re: to the recruitment of Cass Tech.
|3 years 3 weeks ago||Vodka and Gatorade||
In the spirit of the Bioshock franchise, I call it "Vitarade."
|3 years 3 weeks ago||I agree.||
I'm old (35) and could easily say that personally, I do not want to go to a night game. But they are obviously good for recruiting and TV, so it's all good. I'll go, be happy and realize that as a parent and spouse, my family is going to get kinda dicked the next day with an inattentive meat sack.
But we should never, ever play MSU at night. That is inviting truly bad things to happen.
I thought last year Air Force would have been a great UTL game. I mean, you aren't going to get involved in shenanigans with a crowd like that unless you deserve it. But, I know we aren't going to play Air Force every year.
I don't know what the answer is, but it's not MSU.
|3 years 4 weeks ago||Certainly could be a "surprise factor."||
But, I think what counters and trumps the surprise factor is the fact that up until about 11pm the previous Saturday, Gardner was a WR. I know he played the position in high school, but for over 6 months, he was studying and practicing as a WR.
I rewatched the Minnesota game this past weekend. Gardner looked pretty lost in the beginning of that game. That is absolutely not a knock on the guy, because most athletes could not have done what he did. You could actually see his handle on the position return during the course of that game. So, in his first 5 games after playing at WR (and at a high level too), Gardner had this streak.
I think of how sometimes guys really struggle with transitions to just a different spot on the same offensive/defensive line. But, since little nuances specific to each position on the lines exist, that makes sense. What Gardner did does not make sense. That kind of productivity without the focused practice and studying for the QB position is absolutely incredible.
I'm not going to hold him to an unreasonable standard. But, after what he was able to accomplish with so little preparation last season, I feel their is literally no cap on what this guy can do.
|3 years 7 weeks ago||A day off of work, alcohol and blowing shit up.||
That's a party.
Go red, white & blue!
|3 years 7 weeks ago||Awesome post||
But I have to disagree with you on "outside of football, he's a perfectly respectable guy." Of course, I don't have any facts, but if any of the coed rumors are true from Florida, he's a real sack of crap as a person. I also remember reading a collection of tweets from his daughter prior to accepting the OSU job and they were all along the lines of "he promised us no more football."
|3 years 10 weeks ago||Wife and daughter are making me breakfast.||
Later we will be going to see the movie "Epic" in 3-D. Watching cool kids movies is a good perk of being a dad. I will likely be experiencing one of the best perks of fatherhood later in the evening when the kiddo is all gorked out on popcorn and glucose. That would be impromptu songs about things like armpits and stinky butts with an oscillation of singing voice between choir and heavy metal.
|3 years 11 weeks ago||Great points||
For me, with the constant barrage of grief I take from the large number of Spartan in-laws, the win vs MSU really helped bring me close to a sense of closure. Which I understand is a stupid thing to say. Not because I'm talking about Staee, but "closure", in and of itself, is complete. But as you're saying, LSA, it's our trajectory that creates the sense of comfort for what the program is doing. We're back and we aren't going anywhere for a long time. Even when we lose, we seem to be getting better, IMO.
But as many of you have said, it's the B1G title and Rose Bowl. I'll probably get a little emotional the next time I see us run out on the field in Pasadena. Hopefully that will be this season.
|3 years 14 weeks ago||Agreed. What I find very frustrating is when Michigan||
fans say something to the effect of "yeah, but despite the officiating, Louisville made the big plays down the stretch and we didn't." Wrong. We did make plays down the stretch. Our unanimous player of the year made a legendary play at a critical point in the game but it was taken away by the officials. So many bad calls in that game. If we get just a few of those to go our way, I really think things would have turned out different for us.
As an intentional method of getting past this game, every time I think about it and get frustrated, I think about what we have to look forward to this fall. We're back in football, and things are about to start getting really good again.
|3 years 18 weeks ago||I don't think they are balanced,||
but you make excellent points. I'm just so happy that the division names are inspired by a compass.
|3 years 19 weeks ago||Drinking||
I am proud of our young men, coaches and university. I will be totally fine, soon. But for now, I am drinking every night after I get home from work and trying to move on. I love this team and feel that things c/should have turned out differently.

|3 years 20 weeks ago||Crap.||
Thanks for the info, I was afraid of that. Oh well, it's all good. The thing about Kickstarter isn't that I get it, it's that we all get it.
|3 years 20 weeks ago||Did the duo + shirt, excited as hell.||
But while I was surfing around Kickstarter, I found another project I want to back that ended 7 days ago. Does anybody know how to, well, I guess "kick" an already kicked project? I feel like maybe I'm just too stupid to click on the right icon.
|3 years 20 weeks ago||Well, you are doing a great job.||
Thanks to your comment, I feel cute and appreciated.
|3 years 20 weeks ago||Clearly, I am the fat man on this site.||
I usually wear an XL, but with the Climalite, I order a large. It doen't look unreasonable on me, but then again, maybe it's my love handles that are unreasonable.
Whatever, I'm too happy about the Final Four to worry about being fat.
|3 years 20 weeks ago||Agree.||
Gardner is a smart kid and a smart football player. He's also one of the leaders of this team. Good move to publically endorse him being a leader on the field.
This is nothing but pure upside.
|3 years 21 weeks ago||I can literally smell the Axe||
I can literally smell the Axe body spray with stale Marlboro Light undertones coming from the brah who first said this. Well, cheers to us winning a Natty this year.
|3 years 22 weeks ago||Should they get a #4 seed?||
I mean, recordwise it's an easy answer. Michigan wouldn't deserve a 3 seed. But I think Minnesota, or any other #1 seed, deserves not to have to face Michigan in the first round. I guess in the hockey tournament, you don't have any bad teams. I've just been thinking over the past couple days how frustrated I'd be if we had to play a North Dakota or BC in the first round if the situation was reversed.
Either way, not our problem this year. Just win today and we'll have fun finding out what happens.
|3 years 22 weeks ago||I try not to follow any future Michigan athletes for that reason||
Seriously, what if you even "favorite" one of their tweets? They would get an email from Twitter with your name and digital thumbs up. Is that considered contact? Doubt it, but not worth it.
|3 years 23 weeks ago||I was thinking the same thing.||
I don't know if there's a decent "backstory game" every year because that's what you'll get when you randomly throw opponents together 30+ times, or if it's by design. I guess whatever the selection committee says, I'll believe the opposite because I don't trust the NCAA.
I think we end up as a 3 seed in Auburn Hills. Fingers crossed.
|3 years 23 weeks ago||I think the score may be a little lower,||
but I agree with Michigan by 1-2 points.
I'll go Michigan 60-59.
I also predict that McGary is going to have another big game.
|3 years 24 weeks ago||I don't know how many times||
I sat in front of my computer showing that clip to my then 3 year old daughter. For weeks, she would keep asking "can we watch Denard say WHAAA?" /proud dad

She's a Sparty grad, and unaware of the contest, but somehow found a way to vote on this. Sheer will, I guess.
|3 years 25 weeks ago||I have always noticed and hated your||

I have had several "preachy" phases where I wanted to create another account to spread my supportive word. It has never been political, religous or what-have-you bad. It's always been a slap-happy kinda "support our boys," but I have never actually done it.
I probably never will either, but after last night's game, I really thought about it . . .
|3 years 26 weeks ago||This is the end of my week off.||
So, I'll be thinking probably too much about how I wish I didn't need to return to work on Monday.
I met an mgoblogger at a tailgate once. He gave me a homebrew that his son had made. Needless to say, I thought he was pretty cool.
As far as "grilled cheese" variant, I heart all things that include cheese regardless of temperature. There really is no wrong way to consume cheese. I guess the only way to make it better is to include a meat with it.
|3 years 26 weeks ago||Agreed.||
He is really classy, but only if he wins.
|3 years 26 weeks ago||Still would be considered "New Money"||
Your rebutal of 3 conference titles in 20 years kinda helps prove the point. Prior to Heathcote, they had nothing. They want to compare themselves to the traditional elite in both hoops and football, but it's garbage. You can't claim to be a historical team with no national presence prior to 30-35 years ago (and even though Heathcote made the tourney and was even a one seed once, they weren't Duke, Kansas, UCLA or anyone else "historic" from the early 80's to the middle 90's). I hear the argument all the time from Sparty fans that their basketball is like our football. But, they aren't anywhere near the top 5 in wins, winning percentage, national titles, tournament appearances or even (all-time) conference titles.
Their claim to fame is the decade from 1999-2009 where they won a bunch of tournament games, a national title and like 5 Final Fours. UCLA had a decade where they won 10 national titles.
Don't get me wrong, they have an impressive program and something to be proud of, but (respectfully) get outta here with "historic."
|3 years 26 weeks ago||Reminds me of a joke involving math classes at Staee||
Math 102: Subtraction, addition's tricky friend.
|3 years 28 weeks ago||Just don't forget to send||
him a similar text when Wisconsin is unable to play up to their seed in the tournament. I've heard that officiating crews don't have to share one whistle when they reffing tourney games.
|3 years 29 weeks ago||Yeah, I actually thought that the game||
was pretty fairly officiated. I mean, as good as we can expect to get playing in a road game in this conference.
|3 years 29 weeks ago||You have totally nailed it.||
I hadn't really thought of it that way, but you are right. The BTN is the tail wagging the dog in a lot of ways. Adding Maryland and Rutgers only makes sense if you actually generate interest in those regions. No question Michigan/OSU/Penn State will always increase interest and TV ratings when compared to other schools that aren't as polarizing.
|3 years 29 weeks ago||Hearing that he's played for only a few years||
reminds me a lot of Anthony Lalota. Not saying he'll have the same outcome, but limited data points always kinda concern me. But, I'm certainly not saying that I'm glad he's gone or anything stupid like that.
|3 years 29 weeks ago||Your username and that comment||
go really well together.
|3 years 30 weeks ago||^this^||
(couldn't help myself)
Although I will never tire of the Upton gifs, it is annoying when they are inserted into a thread that isn't labeled "NSFW." I mean, I know that's the risk any time I'm on a blog site, so I'm not a victim here. It blows my mind how frequently someone happens to walk by me at work when something like that shows up. Meh, I guess being known as the "Upton perv" at work isn't all that bad.
"Cool story bro" is definitely overused. If the frequency was cut down about 90-95%, it may start being funny again.
|3 years 30 weeks ago||Awesome video, man.||
Great play selections and I loved the music.
|3 years 30 weeks ago||I agree, Denard's patience is||
incredible when running with the football. I've always felt he's been underrated in that regard.
|3 years 31 weeks ago||I'm so happy someone created||
this account. Strong work.
|3 years 31 weeks ago||Godspeed.||
I wish there was an upvote option of "heroism."
|3 years 31 weeks ago||I hate the home court bias.||
In the end, it's a wash. I don't think any team (at least in our conference) benefits more so than others, so every time we lose a close game because of it, I feel confident that we'll get the makeup when the game comes back to Ann Arbor. But I think it weakens the validity of the event itself. It feels like it has a "part show" quality to it.
|3 years 31 weeks ago||I agree,||
that's a solid looking list. Including Michigan, he had 10 offers from BCS schools.
Edit: Oops, I mean 11. Sorry Purdue, forgot you were a BCS school.
|3 years 32 weeks ago||Holy crap.||
Somehow I had never seen that first hype video. I just watched it and you are totally right, that was incredible.
|3 years 32 weeks ago||Hell Yeah!!!!!||
Go Blue! Awesome news!!!
|3 years 32 weeks ago||This is eerily similar to 2002||
'Bama (Miami), defending national champion and everyone's pick to repeat. Possibly complacent, but we'll see.
ND (OSU), great defense with not-so-great offense. Got pretty lucky to win some of their games and easily could have lost several of them.
I have evolved in the last decade, so if ND pulls an OSU and surprises everyone, I won't visit catatonia like a I did in Jan of '03.
Clearly the difference with the "defending national champion" in this analogy is coaching. But I am definitely not going to count ND out in this game until they are actually out.
|3 years 33 weeks ago||I love his attitude in that.||
It seems like it's excitement and confidence without being a dick. Awesome.
|3 years 33 weeks ago||I'm actually hoping they have that||
exact uniform distribution in the starting five. Two blue uniforms, two white and one maize.
Suck on that, Oregon! /s
|3 years 33 weeks ago||Agree.||
I am not ready to be happy, or even neutral, for PSU in any way. I don't know when/if I will. I understand that the scholarship/bowl restrictions are going to crush PSU over the next decade, but I want that descent to happen faster.
|3 years 33 weeks ago||I think our team is mentally tough.||
I know that's kind of a trite thing to say, but for some reason, I think it's actually going to have more of an impact on today's game than usual. We win an ugly, close game that comes down to making a big stop late in the fourth.
Michigan - 20
|3 years 33 weeks ago||Exactly.||
I hope now they will stop with the "will play anyone" meme. Because you won't, ND. You broke a contract to get out of playing a team that had beat you 3 years in a row at that point.

I mean, obviously all the football stuff. But what 17-18 year old wouldn't want to come to college as soon as possible for all the obvious social reasons as well?

I also think it's a lot more of a gray area than people want to admit. If a kid is working hard in the flimroom and in practice, it's good for a team as a whole that he's rewarded and sees the field. Also, based on maturity, it seems reasonable that a player may benefit greatly from even limited playing time.
We need WRs to step up next year pretty bad. I would imagine Darboh is much better prepared for that now after getting his feet wet.
