I don't understand people blaming DG for this disaster. He has been under borges for almost 3 years now. borges is his qb coach. He obviously has not been taught how to play the position. He looked better last year just playing on instincts. this has to tell you that borges is completly incompetent. He cannot coach a mobile qb and he cannot call plays that suit his team. Any one blaming Devin has not ever played ball at any level. With the beating he has taken I can't believe he is even out there right now.
I think he is a warrior and a talented football playter with no guidance. I thank him for giving his all for MICHIGAN.

if it wasn't for Denard he would have looked much worse the past two years and we would probably be talking about firing Hoke right now. Denard covered up the offensive staffs incompetence with plays like the one in the picture page from today. I don't know if I will be able to watch next year if he is still around. Way too much arrogance to tolerate.
is very concerning. I am worried about the Oline because during the game it does not seem that they are getting beat because of lacking physical maturity. They are getting beat because they either do not target the right player in pass pro or the blocking scheme does not account for a pass rusher. If they were engaging players up front and getting beat by the player they were blocking I'd be less concerned because theoretically 1-2 more years in a college S&C program and getting older would fix this. My concern is that they either don't know what their assignment is, can't get to their assignment, or the scheme is just that bad. These things won't get that much better with maturity. Blocking assignments change week to week based on what the other team is going to throw at you so being in a system for an extra year shouldn't really help with that, at least with pass pro. Run blocking may get better with time and reps. I fear that our offensive coaches don't prep the players well during the week. I hope I'm wrong but I know what I am seeing. Unfortunately I don't think there will be any coaching changes in the next year or maybe never because I think Hoke is very loyal and won't let his guys go. It's probably going to be like this for awhile and I don't see our offense ever winning us many big games. Our only chance at being elite or even good (as good as MSU this year) is finally getting a lock down D on the field. (Sigh)
Every game better be a good game or you need to be replaced. I can't stand hearing this "He's called some good games" crap. What would you say if you were in the hospital and your doctor misdiagnosed a routine problem you and you died. Then in court his defense is I've made some good diagnoses during my career just not that day. you wouldn't be satisfied with that and his ass would lose the lawsuit.
Borges has clearly underperformed here. This is Michigan and there is not room for his "bad games."
Because as long as you run against bad numbers you won't be successful. Watch Alabama and LSU (this year). They don't run against 8 in the box. LSU did last year and the OC got replaced. Their offense is much better this year. How about calling plays that the team is capable of executing to build confidence in the young O-line? How about not giving the seniors a couple of losses they shouldn't have? If your theory is in fact correct Hoke should go along with fat Al and promote G-Matt to head coach.
I think Al is just a bad coach and that may be why he never had an elite job before. I don't consider Auburn elite. He also got canned there.
That formation cost us the ND game last year. Vincent Smith HB pass for INT. Another game Borges cost this program with his incompetent playcalling. (We are going to make Denard a passer this year.) It was a giant waste of practice time and plays on the field.
The playcalling is the problem. I really don't see bad technique from the O-line especially given the in experience. The playcalles and lack of ability to check out of bad plays are making the O-line look worse than they are. I am not saying this unit is good, but running into 8 or 9 in the box isn't helping.
In that clip, hopefully his ass is in the hotseat and he knows it. He needs to get canned. he blows at least 2 games on his own every year. If he stays it will be really hard to think we ever have a shot at an undefeated season
bottom line al is calling bad plays at bad times. running into stacked lines with 8 in the box and 10 within 10 yards if LOS does not work. that is why teams have audibles to check out of bad plays. we have not been doing that. my highschool team did this and it is not that difficult to do. i was in hs 16 yrs ago. this is not a new concept. to run on a stacked box takes a truly elite o line which we dont have. you cant expect your players to things they physically cannot do that is just bad coaching. like having threatt run the spread option
I like the consultant idea but not a fan of Tice. I think Alex Gibbs would be a great consultant. I think he came in during the Mike Hart years for an offseason. It seemed to help. He is more of a zone blocking guy and I don't know if that's really the direction Hoke wants to go. I don't know if we have choice at this point. I don't think we really have the horses up front to base/drive block the rest of the Big Ten this year. Actually I know we don't based on the games we have played so far. I definitely don't think an outside opinion could make things any worse at this point.
VT's offense has not looked that great this year. Bud Foster has been awesome as usual and that's really the only reason they are winning games. Granted this is only his first year at VT. He did do a good job at Temple the only place he had time to establish his system.
I just don't think Michigan should have to hire guys that may or may not be that great. We should have the ability to hire a proven commodity. Borges is one of the highest paid assistants in the country and for that kind of money we should be getting upper eschelon coaches. Essentially the best money can buy because we are paying some of the highest assistant salaries.

you dont get it. my post was not well written. change in formation will help with qb vision and mechanics because the oline can't create a pocket. gun will eliminate need for 5 and 7 stp drops hopefully helping gardner some. if you have ever played football before you would know you can't come up with a whole new running scheme mid season. this ain't ps3. you can hone in on plays that work like the zone read and qb runs which are not under center. also if hoke must have his "power" plays they dont have to be run from under center. basically i think staying in the gun/pistol will help compensate for inept o-line play.
We can't keep Devin under center with the way this O-line is playing right now. 5-7 step drops and play action require good interior blocking. Miller and to some extent Glascow get blown up every play. Passing from under center requires a pocket which is not happening most of the time. Devin is making some poor decisions but mechanics are being affected by the poor interior line play. Also when we line up under center Akron and U Conn both continued to bring an extra blitzer off the right side which eliminated the play action with a roll out to the right. With a right handed mobile QB this is a big problem if you are going to make PA a staple.
IMO we need to go shotgun or pistol with a quick passing attack. Also we need to take a couple of shots deep more often so the zones are not so compacted. We can still use the same running plays out of these formations. Also I would like to see Bryant or Magnusson/Braden crack the OL. Miller is just not servicable from talent standpoint in my opinion. He doesn't have the strength to hold up yet.
I'm getting tired of watching Borges put our quarterbacks into situations that don't fit them. Granted DG played like crap. However it is evident that he plays much better out of the gun. The zone read was clicking and we did not stay with it. Also Borges has to get out of his tendencies. When under center we always run a dive/power run or PA roll out to the right. When we were under center Amato stacked the box and brought a blitz off of the R edge. That covered about 95% of what we have been doing from under center. He repeatedly calls about 3-4 horrible games per year. That combined with poor play from the guys on the field led to this near loss. Last year ND and MSU games stick out as badly called games. I hope we start running mainly shotgun formations until we get a decent lead. Also we need to realize that we are going to have to use DG in the run game more than we want to due to the youth in the middle of the OL. At least we got the W.
