He was great in 2011 behind an okay, but not great by Michigan standards, o-line. I doubt Wheatley, Biakabutuka, A-Train, or perry could have done much better the past two years, especially coming off that injury. Kid competed every week. Get over yourself.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||Stability||
Sometimes stability is underrated. We had instability for pretty much four years. I think the staff needs to be given until 2015. The whole staff. I mean, if Hoke doesn't think Borges or Funk or whomever is cutting it, then fine, but if he does, then I'm okay with the whole staff staying. When the entire interior of the OL has no clue, what do you do? I guess you can redesign things on the fly, and they did that to a small extent, but if you want them to MANBALL in 2015, punting on it in 2013 isn't going to help them learn any more quickly. It stinks, but we knew going in that the interior OL was a huge problem. Heck, we knew that was something to be frightened of last year, when Miller and Bryant couldn't crack the lineup. Next year won't be any prettier with two new tackles and Kugler. Hopefully Kalis gets it figures out.
I hope Brandon continues to be patient. His patience served us well with Beilein, who made the tournament in year 2 only to have a losing record in year 3. Year 4 started out like year 3, and then the team got hot and made the tourney, and now look where we are. Two largely empty recruiting classes (not filled with three-stars, just not filled) is tough to manage back-to-back. We need the effects of that to be almost completely passed before making a true judgment. In the meanwhile, root for the kids to do the best they can.

I picked him up a round earlier than I should have in that league because I didn't want to miss out. Also, I thought he'd get a bit more run than he has, and his RB/WR dual eligibility in my league gave him some extra value. But I should have picked Mike Glennon, who I thought would be there another 10 picks. Oh well.
|5 weeks 4 days ago||Beilein is a great evaluator||
But he was also one of the first to talk to Booker. Everyone else just saw him quickly enough to get involved, unlike Levert or even GRIII.

If I'm a pessimist going in. Also, they're still reaping the rewards of Tatgate, so they have a better base of talent.
|6 weeks 3 hours ago||It depends||
Do we lose a close one? Did the refs only call one penalty on Staee? Is it terrible weather? Do we lose 63-0? If we lose 63-0, my opinion will change. Otherwise, not so much, since my expectation this year was 9-3, losing to Ohio, and losing two road games.
But again, how we play matters. Coming off a bye week, I'd hope we don't look unprepared. That will disappoint me.

Is a year younger. It would be pretty natural for him to be behind others on the depth chart initially. And one would hope that even as an early enrollee he'd be enough behind others in spring practice that he couldn't catch up after only spring, as otherwise what have the other OLs been doing all year. That he's been able to pass about 5 guys ahead of him on the depth chart speaks highly of him, but says very little about coaching, except that coaches are willing to keep evaluating the depth chart.

If I get screwed over from something weird happening at closing, it'll be because I've even reloading mgoblog all day, I guess.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||Saw it live||
It was the first targeting play I'd seen, and it made me like the rule. He the receiver who was jumping and completely defenseless, and the defender led with his shoulder and hit him around the neck/facemask area. If this is the type of play targeting gets called for, I have absolutely no problem with this rule. Now, they do need to fix the rule about overturning the penalty in addition to the ejection, but that's a small quibble, since how many other 15-yard penalties are automatically reviewed after they're called?
If you like watching sports where people die in combat, build a time machine and go back to Ancient Rome. Football is fun, but if rules can be put in place to help prevent serious head and neck injuries, then they should do so. I frankly think the NFL should adopt this rule too. If Brandon Merriweather gets thrown out of the first half of every game, he'll learn what targeting is very quickly, or be out of the league.
|7 weeks 2 days ago||I'd be fine limiting when you could snap the ball||
Maybe require 10 seconds to run from the play clock. In addition to the defense not having a chance to set up, refs are running so fast to catch up to the offense so as to not slow them down that they're all out of position, don't have time to check to see if formations are legal, and are themselves out of breath. You want a well-called game -- don't make the refs have to gasp for air all the time.
And the video review booth has no shot whatsoever. You can still run a pretty effective no huddle if you snap it after 10 seconds. But this 7-8 seconds some teams do, while entertaining yesterday, seems to be stretching it to me.

I think he's got an okay chance to make the Celtics. They only have 14 players with guaranteed contracts, and have just enough room to add one player with a rookie-minimum salary deal and stay under the salary cap. They've also had him in camp before and with their affiliiated D-league team in Maine, so they know his game and like it enough to keep giving him a chance. I think it's between him and Kammron Taylor for an unguaranteed two-year contract with that final roster spot, although the edge goes to Taylor because he's a point guard and Rondo is injured. Whichever player wins the spot will probably be waived in early January, however, before the contract becomes guaranteed for the rest of the year per the CBA.
|12 weeks 2 days ago||Clearly the refs thought he got his knee down||
Otherwise they should have stopped the clock for change of possession shortly after the ASU player fell on the ball.
|12 weeks 5 days ago||I think that throwing is more important to the staff||
They're going to look kids who can make all the throws first. If the kid can also run, like Gardner, all the better, but a lot of high school "dual- threat" qbs really can't throw at all.
Look at Andrew luck. Most people wouldn't call him a dual-threat quarterback, but he's relatively effective at running the ball when he needs to, because he's fast enough, and defenses are more worried about his arm. I think he's the type of qb that would fit this staff's ideals more than Cam Newton, if you want to compare consecutive #1 picks.

Probably taken already.
|13 weeks 11 hours ago||I think Chesson will emerge||
Darboh was ahead of Chesson the entire spring and summer until he got hurt, so Gardner probably doesn't have the confidence/comfort in/with Jehu yet. I'm sure Borges will point out how wide open he is during film sessions, and he'll get at least a target or two the next couple of weeks. But the Notre Dame game wasn't the week to get Gardner away from his comfort zone of Gallon. The next two weeks plus the bye should fix it.
|13 weeks 3 days ago||Jaguars||
Denard obviously, but that division isn't anything special, and I think Gabbert is going to surprise some people this year if he stays healthy.
More likely is Saints and Eagles.
|13 weeks 3 days ago||Personally||
I was a little uneasy with the joke, but never enough to say anything about it, because it's a relatively anonymous sports blog and people make jokes that I don't like. But when I recently heard about the rape allegations, it became a little too chauvinistic and objectifying of women for my taste. Also, it's been a joke for almost 20 months now, and it probably should be running its course anyway. Things can get overplayed, regardless of your initial feelings about the humor.
|13 weeks 3 days ago||I don't think it's the hair color that matters||
I think it's the rape allegations combined with a slightly chauvinistic joke that doesn't sit well with him (at least that's my guess, because I'm a little sick of the brunette jokes too).
|13 weeks 6 days ago||Disappointing||
Unlike some OSU players, he always seemed classier. Hopefully he works on his anger issues and makes this a one-time event, and not the beginnging of a long-term problem.
|13 weeks 6 days ago||Thanks||
That's a tough one for my fat phone fingers.

Only M game I've ever attended. I remember the PA announcer stumbling over Tshimanga Biakabutuka. Nice to see footage of it preserved.
|13 weeks 6 days ago||Teams with easy schedules||
I root for whichever team(s) have cupcake schedules that might allow them to waltz into a title game. This year that team is Louisville. Their schedule is embarrassing, and I hate the they can't control who they play nonsense. Ohio (Bobcats) might be their best non-conference opponent, and their in-conference schedule isn't much better.
|14 weeks 5 days ago||Norfleet is a 7||
Norfleet is a 7, blocking is a 1, so that averages to 4.
|14 weeks 5 days ago||Nailed it||
Questionable hits can get you a full-game. A half-game is just a made up punishment because they either have nothing, don't want to punish the player who will make them the most money, or both. It's a bigger joke than no punishment at all.
|14 weeks 5 days ago||If we can get Hand and McDowell for next year||
This D-Line could be set for the next half-decade. Can't wait for the games to start to confirm how much depth we have!
|14 weeks 6 days ago||"Lineman"||
He may be a unique object. So definitely not.
|15 weeks 1 day ago||Yes I did||
Always confused them in my head for some reason. Hopefully Bolden has an all-conference season in his future to remind me who he is.
|15 weeks 1 day ago||Poole and Bolden?||
The depth-chart-by-class page in this site has shown 3 available for a little bit, so I don't know where the talk of only 1 came from.

But I'm sure there are others with less than 2 years' experience.

32, DC. From upstate NY originally, never went to UM, but was raise by two fanatics who met there. Went to one of those NESCAC schools, so I don't have any real college sports teams to cross allegiances with. Currently work for a federal agency that will remain nameless (mostly so that I can say what I want here without getting in too much trouble. Or maybe it's the CIA. Who knows?)
