For fuck sake. I had to log in for the first time in - checks notes - years just to reply to the horseshit in this thread.

Instead of bitching about regression how about we applaud this team and these young men?  They’ve changed the entire culture of the program. We aren’t soft.  They don’t flinch. They are resilient even when they don’t play their best. Nothing is ever good enough for some of you. Just enjoy 11-0.  Enjoy a chance at a b10 championship and a playoff berth.

This team can lose next week and it is still a great team. I wish we would celebrate that instead of dumping on individuals, the coaches, position groups, etc just because they failed to be perfect. They haven’t lost. Enjoy the ride. Beat OSU.

Dorco is legit. Anyone using Dorco is legit. Anyone using Dollar Shave Club should switch to Dorco, since Dorco makes DSC's blades anyway. Don't get suckered in by the marketing.
Does anyone know details Does anyone know details about where Harbaugh and his family are staying temporarily? I kept thinking today that he was just a bit overwhelmed, and under the weather, by the whirlwind of events. Not stalking the guy, just curious how UM handles the logistics of a cross-country move for their $5mil guy and his family.

hydrocephalus?

Thoughts and prayers.  I have a niece who had a similar procedure done and my daughter had it done as well.  I've been told by neurologists that shunt placement to reduce hydrocephalus is one of the most common brain surgeries performed.  I'm sure you are in great hands and she will bounce back quick.

Webber Performer?

I had this same dilemma last summer.  I checked out the BGE, priced it, was ready to purchase, then walked away.  BGE is certainly awesome.  However, I watched a friend prep his BGE and then make burgers.  My wife was not having it.  Took too much time.  She liked the idea of charcoal, but not lighting the chimney, getting ito going, etc.  She was all for charcoal, but having a young family, she did not want to have to plan way in advance to start the grill.

So, I settled on a Webber Performer.  COULD NOT BE HAPPIER.  Best grill I have ever owned.  It gives you the best of both worlds.  You get a Webber grill, which others have mentioned how they can be used as smokers, and the Performer has electric starter w/ a small propane tank to get the charcoal started.  Using a charcoal grill could not be easier.  So, wife-approved because it doesn't take as long to get going and she can do it herself.  Yet, still an awesome grill, with a nice work table and charcoal storage.  Still built in the USA if that matters to you.

Ironman by Black Sabbath

Ironman by Black Sabbath works for the same reason Babo O'Reily works - great intro that everyone knows.  Plus, Ironman at least sounds tough.  Other ideas:

As an Ohio University grad

As an Ohio University grad and former employee I can explain the OHIO thing.  Here it goes:

It is branding.  In 2004 or 2005 OU (as everyone in the state of Ohio calls them) hired a new president and as new presidents usually do he had a "rebranding effort."  Gone was any reference to "OU."  Instead, the university was to be referred to as OHIO in all caps, all the time (kind of like THE in front of OSU).  This was coupled with a push to greatly increase external research funding, something a primarily undergraduate university had no business doing.  They failed to greatly increase the external research funding, but the OHIO thing stuck...kinda.

If you went to school there or partied there or had friends there it was and is OU.

agreed

I'm not sure how we stack up against the best b10 teams, but at least we are winning the games we are supposed to win: Purdue, NW, Minny.  Toss Iowa and Illinois into that mix and this season doesn't look that differen then any of the late Carr era records (2006 excluded).  That is major progress over the last three years.  Even last year's team struggled against crap: Indiana, UMass, etc.

they are legit

I hate that we have to look back beyond the recent past to show that MSU isn't legit.  The fact is they beat us the last 4 years and OSU has beaten the last I don't know how many times.  MSU is good right now.  It pains me to read the Little Brother comments or the comments about "we're recruiting now and normalcy will return in a year or two."  F that.  It is always next year for us.  No one ever considers the fact that Dantonio has changed MSU.  I think he has.  He may be an ass but he's a good coach and he makes damn sure his guys are ready to play us.  They get up for us, even if it means sacrificing the next game.  I wish we had that intensity.

steel horses!

"Riding steel horses through a post-apocalyptic future like it is not even a thing"  - AWESOME and I vote that it should replace "save us the hymnals, cooler poopers" as the blog's tag line.

THANK YOU!

I just wanted to say thank you for posting that about the workaround w/ att and ESPN3.  I have time warner road runner for internet and was getting the stiff arm about not having their video service to use ESPN3.  I used your suggestiona and Bingo!  ESPN3 is working.  That was the last piece to the puzzle after cutting off Directv. I was very worried that I was going to miss games that I couldn't get OTA (I live in North Carolina).  I haven't found your suggestion anywhere else, so thanks again.

Brian was right

Awhile back Brian said something like, "Michigan's fans would eat themselves and the program if they could."  Judging by the back and forth over the last few days on the board I have to agree with that sentiment.

Magnus, just get it over with

Magnus, just get it over with already and have a Diary about Cox, similar to the one you had a few years ago where you argued for Minor to get more playing time.  You want it, I want it, the American people want it.

Actually, I think he could be

Actually, I think he could be special as a third down back.  He seems to have good hands and he is so small that he could sneak out of the backfield and into the flat/wheel route.  He is ideally suited for that and Borges probably knows that too.

I like the black background

I like the black background and I like how you pick a RB and argue with everyone else that he should start.

In my dream world - UM has a great season and Vincent Smith and Magnus hug it out.

I feel like it is 2008 all

I feel like it is 2008 all over again....only substituting Cox for Minor.

A corvette that was an

A corvette that was an anniversary edition - they had a few in the 90s would be worth something some day.

Early 90s Toyota MR2 Turbo - they are fairly rare, they were heavily optioned and quick, but still got good gas mileage.  Recently, Car and Driver did a small article on collectible cars from the early 90s and the MR2 made the list along w/ A Mustang 5.0 LX.  I owned a 91 MR2 Turbo and wish I still had it.  Great car, handled great, good acceleration, bullet-proof, looked like a mini-ferrari.  Way, way better then a Fiero, which I also owned.

Early 90s Acura NSX (if you have $35K or so) would be the ultimate option.  Exotic car, incredibly dependable, bound to go up in value b/c they didn't sell many.

Love the Stark County guy.  I

Love the Stark County guy.  I hope for his sake he doesn't, but I could see Mallett flaming out in the NFL.  Not quite Ryan Leaf flame out, but a flame out nonetheless.

It is not a different car.

It is not a different car.  Still the same platform, it is a Sebring underneath.  They re-configured the suspension, put a bit of new sheet metal on it and upgraded the interior, then changed the name.  The Sebring was a disaster.  Going from the Sebring to the 200 is a step up, but you can only polish the turd so much.  They will have a new car in a few years to replace the 200 and it will be a Fiat.

Bottom line - Fiat is calling the shots at Chrysler.  Not Americans, but Italians.  The commercial was a commercial for a city, not a car.  Last I checked, Auburn Hills is 33 miles form Detroit.  I'm glad they did an ad to lift up Detroit, but I'm not sure it'll help them sell more 200s.

like the ad, not the car

The ad was great b/c it focused on the city...not on the Chrysler 200.  The Chrysler 200 is a reskined Sebring, which may have been one of the suckiest cars Chrysler has ever produced.  They should of highlighted the new 300 because the 200 won't be around too long.  I give Chrysler credit for updating a really terrible car and making it decent w/ no time and no development money.  However, the 200 will be replaced by a rebadged Fiat product within two years.

lewan = bill brasky

Lewan is Michigan's Bill Brasky and I like it.

3 game season

I look at the rest of the season as a three game season, starting with PSU.  Last year it seemed like we started losing and there was no way to catch our breath, make changes, etc. because the next game was right around the corner and the season just snowballed.  This year, we have a bye.  We lost to two pretty good teams and in some ways we beat ourselves.  I say three game season because I think everyone, the fans, players, coaches, have an idea of what makes a successful season and what doesn't.  Winning the next three (a tall task) puts us at 8-2 heading into Wiscy and OSU.  To me, the team has nothing to lose if they are sitting at 8-2 going into the last two weeks.  If you come into those last two games 5-5 then the team is going to be awfully tight as last year's collapse will be an enormous monkey on their back.

You are looking at this

You are looking at this correctly.  8-4 for past UM teams was a disappointment.  For this team it is an achievement and a sign of progress.  To just blindly say that 8-4 is unacceptable is forgetting that UM has turned in many 8-4 season with a lot more talent then this team has.  What is really scary is that this team is going to have to really play great to get to 8-4.  They could easily lose the rest of their games.  Based on the past two games it is easy to see that if this team (especially the offense) doesn't play mistake-free then we're screwed.  I don't see any of the remaining games being blowouts in our favor.  I expect the next three to be very, very close games.

Thank You

This talk about Pryor sucking is ridiculous.  He's not perfect, but he's 26-6 in his career.  I don't give a shit if he does shot put the ball and looks relatively clueless in the pocket.  The results stand on there own.  What is our record in that same time frame?

so, two incidents of the infamous note card?

So, with all the responses were there two incidents?  The Rose Bowl and the ND game?  In a way, I'm glad I never saw it.

so, in other words So, in other words you expect RR to do something at Michigan that hasn't been done since BO left. Ok. Did you happen to expect the same from Lloyd or MO? Every year we play teams like Cincy and USF they're called MAC schools. Louisvile was actually pretty good during WV's run.
you are joking, right?

WVU's record in 2005 was 11-1, in 2006 it was 11-2, in 2007 it was 11-2.  When was the last time UM put together three straight years like that?  "Any good by UM standards."  I would argue that our "standard" is about 8-4 or 9-3, which is your stated ceiling for RR.  Mo's avg. was 8.8 and Lloyd's was 9.4, so if RR gets 8 or 9 wins with an occasional 10 win season then he's keeping to historical norms.

1 or 2 loss seasons are rare.  Lloyd had exactly 3, none of them back to back.  Bo had a lot, but football was a lot different back then.  It bugs me when people talk about "UM standards" as if we are undefeated heading into the OSU game EVERY year.  Most of the time we have a loss before entering conference play.  1 or 2 loss seasons are EXCELLENT seasons by any standard.  They are also a rarity, and something  Michigan has done exactly once in the last decade.

OU

OU is a fine school with a flat out beautiful campus.  I graduated from there and always felt it was a good value for undergrad education (no great programs, but good programs).  I didn't want to pay out-of-state tuition and I didn't want to go to Miami of OH or OSU.  It isn't Michigan, or any other B10 school for that matter and it doesn't try to be, but like any school, you get out of it what you put into it.

The party reputation is only partly deserved in my opinion.  I think a lot of that reputation is built on the Halloween party, which is a city function.  The daylight savings time riot stuff was really, really stupid.

The green light is key

Pryor DID NOT have the green light after the Purdue game.  If you compare OSU's rushing stats and passing stats in their games down the stretch (psu, iowa, UM) you will see over 50 rushing attempts and under 20 passing attempts.  They took the chains off Pryor against Oregon and he had a great game.  He can win OPOY if Tressel lets him chuck it and run it.  No way he lets Pryor take a lot of hits though.  They don't have a ton of depth behind Pryor do they?

Shaw eligibility

Man I hope Shaw gets eligible.  I think he could be something special and it would be great to have all options available at RB, especially when V. Smith may be tentative on the repaired knee.

I think OSU wins this game

I think OSU wins this game and covers.  Tressel knows that if they win this game they will be vaulted into the top 2 spots in the rankings and that should help them cruise to a potential NC game if they navigate their favorable b10 schedule correctly.  This is a bigger game for OSU then Miami.  OSU should come into the season in the top 5, probably top 3.  Win against Miami and they'll be an even trendier pick for the BCS NC game.

linking renovations and wins

I know OSU wen through their big stadium renovations, but I don't remember the timeline.  I believe it was around 2000 to the tune of $194 million.  What would be interesting is to see how their revenue has changed since then, especially in light of the article that came out recently that Brian mentioned about OSU out-spending nearly every B10 school.  He thought the numbers were wrong, perhaps they weren't.  In other words, is there any link between renovations and kicking a$$ (as OSU has done throughout the 00s)?  Maybe adding a few luxury boxes allows you to spend coin on other things, attract new talent, and win.  That's a stretch, I know, but the added revenue surely can't hurt.  At the very least, the renovations to the Big House will allow us to keep up with the ever-increasing $$$ spending race that is college football.

I grew up in Cbus and lived

I grew up in Cbus and lived their most of my life, so believe me, I know what you mean.  I thought the 2006 team was great, but I thought OSU was the better team that year.  I've thought OSU was the better team throughout the 2000s, except for 2003.  I knew we were the better team that year and it showed on the field.

Are you serious with this

Are you serious with this take on 2006?  ,That great rush defense you keep talking about surrendered 187 yards that game, 6.4 per carry.  I distinctly remember a young beanie wells ripping off a 50+ yard td run against that amazing rush D.  They also passed for 316 yards on us and amassed 503 yards.  Bottom line, they beat us and they were the better team.  Kind of like they've been nearly all decade.

Nothing between Greesnboro

Nothing between Greesnboro and Raleigh?  What about Burlington, Durham, and Chapel Hill?  You could find the game at any sports bar in NC, I'm sure of that.  I live in Winston-Salem which is west of where you will be but I've never had a problem finding a game.  ABC, ESPN, or BTN will have it.  Not sure why everyone is saying there aren't any bars in NC b/c that's not true.  Winston has lots of bars, most of which show games. If you can find a Buffalo Wild Wings or similar you'll definitely be able to watch the game.

I always felt that Radiohead

I always felt that Radiohead could have really had an incredible double disc if they released Kid A and Amnesiac together and deleted some filler.  No one mentioned Amnesiac on here, but it is a great disc unto itself.  The music on those two records came from the same recording sessions.  Maybe eliminate Treefingers, Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors and Hunting Bears.  Replace the original Like Spinning Plates w/ the live version  and you have a double disc of 18 songs of awesome.

One of my favorite albums

One of my favorite albums this year is Surfer Blood's Astro Coast.  Great disc.  The new Band of Horses album is also good.  Contra was not as good as I thought it was going to be.  I don't know if any of those are album of the year candidates.

Neko Case is great.  Fox Confessor Brings the Flood is an outstanding disc.

I think they posted on their

I think they posted on their website in January that they were going back to the studio to record again.

OK Computer is a better album

The Bends is a bit more straightforward and I think that is why more people like it, but for me, OK is the best disc out of an outstanding discography.  As for best three song series, OK has several:

Airbag - Paranoid Android - Subterranean Homesick Alien; Climbing Up the Walls - No Surprises - Lucky.

Dark Side of the Moon has an argument for best 3 song stretch - Time, Great Gig in the Sky, Money.  That's tough to beat.

D line strength covering up secondary weakness? I read all these observations and I get excited and worried within the same paragraph. Would it be possible that our D line is good enough to cover up some of the growing pains we may have at LB/spur/secondary? In other words, I'm hoping our D line gets consistent pressure to greatly reduce the amount of time our secondary has to cover pass routes.
Saturday will be vanilla Did anyone listen to RR when he was interviewed during the video? He stated that Saturday's game would be vanilla in a lot of ways. I wouldn't expect anything incredible because I think he'll play it close to the vest. I know we're all looking forward to Saturday, but I don't think the highlights will be anywhere near as good as they were last year.
Highland and Duck Rabbit... You sir must be from North Carolina! Highland Oatmeal Porter is solid. Duck Rabbit Baltic Porter is outstanding, but rare. You ever try any of the Pisgah beers? Not sure anyone mentioned: Old Rasputin Imperial Stout by North Coast Brewing Raison D'etre by Dog Fish Head (heck anything by Dog Fish Head)
Carpenter movies There are several classic John Carpenter movies. The Thing is an underrated horror flick with excellent effects, especially if you consider the time it was made. Big Trouble in Little China is a classic. Finally, Escape from New York is awesome. What do they all have in common - directed by Carpenter, music by Carpenter, starring Kurt Russell.
BT in LC! Big Trouble in Little China is as good as it gets. "It's like I told my last wife...honey I never drive faster then I can see. Besides that, it's all in the reflexes."
3rd Coast Is the 3rd Coast Old Ale like a barleywine? I've never had it and a sixer down here in NC is running $15. Worth it?
fat tire I live in NC and we have Fat Tire. Maybe they just don't have it in Toledo yet?
When I watched WVU a few When I watched WVU a few years ago, I always felt like they were a tackle or a missed cut from going the distance on just about every play. Watching our offense this year, I'm starting to get that same feeling. Every time an RB touches the ball or Robinson keeps it and gets into the secondary I start thinking, "he's gone." It is really entertaining to watch this offense when it is hitting on all cylinders.
Mundy? What about Ryan Mundy? He graduated, found a loop hole and played another year at WVU. He's with the Steelers now and seeing the field on occasion b/c Polamalu is out.
OSU's D line is for real OSU's D line is outstanding. They played a great game today and they played great against USC. A big reason for how bad the Illini looked was b/c OSU's D line dominated them. Iowa's D-line also looks very good. Every game for us this year is going to be an adventure. MSU will be no different. They will come out fighting for their season, considering their record.
