"and the mind argues with itself about whether it should say "hooray" and wave a little flag or "did you notwant to win the Iowa game?" and wave a pitchfork."
And this is what will make my brain argue with itself for the next 12 months.
Part of me thinks I would feel better getting trounced in that game trying to run manball and know the direction the coaches are headed in rather than the feeling of having no clue what offensive system we are going to roll out next season.
|5 days 3 hours ago||I'm probably crazy too||
but i've been wondering for a while if Lewan has been subconsciously being more careful in games they should win so that he doesn't get hurt. But in this final shot at OSU, threw all caution to the wind.
That probably sounds like I'm calling his character into question, which I am not.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||Hey Brian, thanks for writing||
thanks for writing this one. it answers the main question I had from your initial game summary where you mentioned the near-interceptions could be attributed both to predictable play calling and bad decision making.
So it helped to see the different categories and I like hearing your thought process on things.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||this one is my favourite||
thanks for the chuckles a2_electricboogaloo! needed a laugh today.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||not trying to pick a fight||
...but which one is it?
"That was a major cause of Gardner's near-INTs: Michigan was running the same things they always do and Northwestern was in the huddle on them"
"Guy has lost faith in his line with good reason and is making bad decisions."
It's probably some of both.
I would be more happy than sad if Borges was gone after this year. But I guess I felt like Gardner showed on Saturday why his short, quick passes could be more frustrating than the efforts to install a running game.

|2 weeks 6 days ago||did I watch a different game?||
wish I could have posted this when people were on the board, but I live overseas and watched the game from BTN archive. But can someone please respond to this?
I feel like I watched a different game. Why not go for it on 4th and 2? In the context of the season, it's worth the risk. We were not playing to stay undefeated...we are playing to get more experience and try to find some positive momentum.
Also, didn't Borges call all the quick, dump it off type stuff that everyone has been screaming for? Did we feel good about how that went? There should have been 5 or 6 picks from those 'easy' throws! I think Al put the team in position to succeed (perhaps with a few exceptions) but it just doesn't seem like Gardner is making great decisions.
...and, yes, lots of reasons why he may not be making great decisions at this point.

Looks like we are in for a long wait to see if Hoke is right or not.
To me this is as close as Hoke comes to transparency with the OL issue without totally making excuses...'we had about half as many OLineman in the fold as you need'.
As much as I hate to wait, it's where we are at. Everyone on this board was screaming to not run it up the gut at State. We didn't. We still got the same result.

I'm getting sick and tired of this! ... the song we all hold hands and sing is 'You raise me up."
|7 weeks 4 days ago||I guess I don't see it as||
I guess I don't see it as holding an ace so much as it was worth the risk to try to establish the running game against lesser competition. But things did't develop as hoped...
|7 weeks 5 days ago||a season-long strategy||
I'm surprised at how upset people are about losing in OT. A win at that point would have tasted just as bitter, I think, because of how under-developed we continue to look for long stretches of the game.
But here's the thought I keep coming back to. Is it remotely possible that the coaches may have a season-long strategy in mind?
They want to re-establish power running. They have been risking tight games against lesser competition in order to develop the players. To me that's why Hoke/Borges continue to go to the run even when it's not working. Not because they are idiots or do not know how to mix up plays...they are trying to establish the run against lesser opponents. "Even if this looks ugly, we should still win this." Like the rest of us, I think they had hoped to be better by this point.
Now, if this is the strategy, is it worth the risk against a team like Penn State?
And if this has been the strategy, do we see the playbook gradually open up post-Indiana? (I would guess yes based on the 2nd half, bar going conservative when statistically it seemed we could kill the clock)
|7 weeks 5 days ago||...but what does Hoke mean||
When Hoke says, 'we are' does he mean 'we are looking at how we are coaching it and the way we should coach it?' or 'we are coaching it the way we should coach it.'
I think he actually meant the fomer.
|8 weeks 1 day ago||what is up with these fans?||
thought it flipped over to a showing of Happy Gilmore or something...taking our shirts off and booing Cabrera
|8 weeks 1 day ago||Also nice to have a man on base||
maybe just me, but seems like MIggy has come up to bat so many times this series without anybody on base. Anybody have a stat?
|8 weeks 1 day ago||in your face||
couldn't have been more classic... right after showing the 'Cabrara Too Bad You Suck" sign then the A's fans - I mean announcers - saying he can't drive the ball anymore!
|8 weeks 4 days ago||Leadoff batters||
I have't seen a stat comparing the 2 yet...but I would say that's the single biggest factor in being down 2-1 in this series. Coco Puffs is on base every at bat. Jackson back in the dugout every at bat.
|10 weeks 2 days ago||Devin and audibles||
This is a good discussion and starts to answer a question I've had about DG this season. During one of DG's first games last year I remember seeing him call more than audible, and they generally seemed to work. I turned to my wife and said, 'Borges is letting DG call audibles...I don't remember Denard getting to call audibles.' So the reason DG is not calling as many audibles this year is? Too deep a playbook? Too inexperienced an OL? Lost his voice? It seemed to be working last year and that DG really 'saw' the game. It would be great to hear any more thoughts and thanks for those already offered.

I'm a Lions fan. But I've always had this idea that a lawyer could get a lot of money by gathering a bunch ex-Lions players together and filing a class action lawsuit against the Lions for ruining their careers...or at least for money they lost from endorsements, etc because they played for Detroit!!
If anyone runs with this idea and gets rich...give me a cut?
At any rate, incredible loyalty Jason for sticking with us.

But was it out of a total lack of ability to control his emotions and actions?
Cause that's what I saw on that video happening multiple times.

I played a contact sport. I think it's horrible.
Part of what I love about Beilein and Hoke is they seem to be so consistent in their ability to control themselves and see the bigger picture of life. And I love that their aim is to raise up not just athletes, but quality men, husbands, fathers. Sometimes that means being firm and getting in people's faces. But it is clear this dude is not in control of himself. Glad the student athletes at Michigan have better role models to be shaped by.

I live in England and watch the games on espnplayer.com. Other option is to find a friend with a slingbox (or buy one for a friend like I did!) and watch their tv from your computer.
|37 weeks 4 days ago||thanks. couldn't have said||
thanks. couldn't have said it better. I think this is what has made watching this team so difficult. You know they are better than this, but so often we were all left trying to find answers after a stupid loss. The answers were comforting for a couple days, but after so many of these you start to think: "Good teams don't make this many excuses." Then, 'Oh no! Maybe they really are not a good team."
I don't know anymore. All I have left is blind homerism filling out my bracket and putting them into the Final Four.
|40 weeks 5 days ago||Bacari Caption contest||
We've got to have a contest to change the caption of the pic with all the coaches standing together...though I may be missing the full extent of the Walter White joke.
But Look at Bacari's face! Wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that death stare.

You're not going to try and take credit for this are you? We've always believed that even the sea turtles in Australia know that Ohio Sucks.
|42 weeks 3 days ago||just tired||
for some reason the Wisconsin loss is still harder to get past than last night's for me. I think the guys were just plain tired. They went down by 6-8 early and didn't have the emotional or physical reserves to fight back. We can talk about all the numbers and statistics we want...but there's also the reality of hotel rooms, bus rides, plane flights, away crowds and some fairly decent teams stacked back to back to back.
I think that accounts for the lack of hustle, driving to the bucket, etc, etc.
Let's be careful about writing these guys off before we see how the next couple of weeks go.
|42 weeks 3 days ago||offense||
why does our 'behind by 20 points offense' spend as much time running out the shot clock behind the arc as our ahead by 5 offense????? It didn't work when we were ahead at Wiscy and it doesn't work now!
|42 weeks 5 days ago||me too...||
"I thought I'd be better by now; I'm not." Sounds like it's the same for everyone...but I'm surprised that for most on the board the lingering emotions are aimed at the refs. I didn't like the officiating, but I still felt like Michigan lost the game. Why did we stop running plays with 3.00 left?!?
|43 weeks 4 hours ago||nope||
absoultely guarantee we will not beat them at home this year.
