clear to me the loss in game 4 sparked them to play an excellent game 5. They might not have had that kind of response going back to Tampa knowing they were 2 up with a game at the Joe in hand. Conversely, Tampa might have played a lot more desperate in Game 5 knowing they had to win.

in the Stanley Cup at Pittsburgh, fall behind and whine. Hated that guy.
Its the playoffs, Babcock has done the subtle complaining before, nothing but gamesmanship. If a Red Wing reads it and suddenly is a little more hesitant to interfere and TB gets a goal than Cooper did his job.
Its hockey, Its the Cup.

I also like watching the English Premier League, absolutely no attachment, its just sports.

to make players want to play hard for them. There are many ways to do thta, tapping into the 18-21 year olds inner fire is much easier when you show passion for what you are teaching.

missed here is that many colleges and universities will be facing the very same problems over the next 10 to 15 years. I've been part of conversations where its been said nearly 10% of all private liberal arts colleges could close due to financial problems within 10 years.
Louisiana has taken it to an extreme but these problems are real. For the first time in many decades we have kids actually believing college isn't worth the expense. That's a very bad place for any society to be.

MSU in a 5:30 start, it was one of the worst fan experiences at Michigan Stadium I can ever remember. Michigan/Michigan State is not a fun rivalry, add 8 hours of alcohol consumption and its a tinder box waiting for a fire. Pretty sure we set a high for fan arrests that day and medical emergencies (most drunk).

about 4 or 5 times last fall thanks to late night Pac12 games and DVR. They lose their all-time leading passing QB, with little proven back-up.
They make plays on offense, but are prone to big mistakes. The defense as mentioned above is pretty average to below average.
Out of the Pac12 North they are solid #5 or #6 team going into this fall, I'd say Washington State is in better shapen heading into the year.

If you are 21 years old or younger this fall, you were 12 years old or younger the last time Michigan won a Big Ten Championship and went to the Rose Bowl.
That's right around the age most kids are introduced to college athletics. In other words, an entire generation of new fans has really never seen Michigan be the Michigan most of us grew up with or remember.
Sucking at football for nearly a decade has cost Michigan dearly.

the Tigers held the best record in baseball for the decade, so I can understand where the poster is coming from. The long decade of futility should keep the Tigers out of baseball's top 5 or 10 for most people.

for instance, the Raiders have been a joke for 20 years, but growing up for me the Raiders were a close second to the Steelers and Cowboys in the 70's early 80's.
I'll go with a 30 year window and my percepetions of some organizations
NHL Best: Red Wings and its not even close
Worst: Buffalo Sabres, Toronto Maple Leafs. Hockey mad towns and can't get their act together to have any kind of sustainable success.
NBA Best: Lakers, Spurs, Celtics, grudgingly put the Bulls in this category.
Worst Atlanta Hawks, other than the Dominque Wilkins years not much.
NFL Best: 49'ers, they were it in the 80's, 90's, Steelers, Patriots close
MLB Best Cardinals and Yankees
Worst San Diego

well less than $1 million in the early 80's. At one point Texas A&M offered something around $750,000 per year to be their head coach. (1982 or so)
Today's 1982 equivalent of $1,000,000 is around $2,400,000. Just to show how out of whack college coaches compensation has become.
Or put it another way, Urban's 2015 compensation would be $2.5 million in 1982. No one was paid that kind of money to coach college football back then, not even close

Reece Davis is now doing the morning College Game Day, the evening wrap up show is getting a total revamp now that Holtz is gone.
I used to love that show, but years ago they went off the rails and just like Sportscenter devoted more and more of their time to talking. More like taking opposite possitions just to argue on TV about it. It just became unwatchable to me. Holtz himself became a character rather than an analyst and it just wasn't any good to watch for a long time.
Happy he was able to contribute something beyond coaching for so long, but the show had run its course for me a long time ago. Here's hoping they find a new host, a new good analyst and they run more highlights like highlight shows are supposed to do.

will be painful for some people. So will the injuries.
Just enjoy a great start to the season, its a very long haul in what will turn out to be a very good division. Stay in the race and be ready to make a move or two at the deadline, then see what happens.

One team people forget
No NHL team scored more points than the 2006 Detroit Red Wings with 124. True their division sucked with Columbus, Chicago and St Louis finishing in the last 3 spots in the Conference.
The Wings were 2nd in goals scored and were never shut out during that season.Wings were beaten 4-2 by Edmonton in round 1.
Cup success is everything in the NHL and I understand that, but that Red Wings team was awesome and for me is probably its most disappointing in the last 2 decades as far as Cup performances.

"no win situation" depends on how much you believe Dave Brandon had his hands on the day to day of the program. I for one happen to believe it was more than most of us would feel comfortable with.

Brady's a good man, and coach, who was brought into a toxic, virtually no win situation. I wish him nothing but the best.
