USAC sprints/midgets

I agree on the local tracks.  I miss seeing the USAC sprints and midgets on ESPN.  I can't remember if it was Saturday Night Thunder?  The Night Before The 500 race at IRP used to be a big deal, probably still is there, but unfortunately is no longer televised.

CHN has customizable pairwise

Check out the customizable pairwise at CHN.  You can pick the winners of future games and see the effect on pairwise.  Of course, this doesn't include the effect of all other games, but it's interesting.

At Disney!

Arrived at Disneyworld tonight, first day in the park tomorrow. Not concerned about missing NSD breaking news, but I'll check in tomorrow night.

Take the people mover

It's been a few years since I've been to the game at the Joe, but I recommend eating in Greektown and taking the people mover.  We had a great time one year with our car alternating between screaming "Go Green, Go White" and "Go Blue".  IMHO, once you're at the Joe, the game is a letdown compared to a GLI Championship, old CCHA Championship, Red Wings game, or certainly Yost.

Once you've taken her to this game, you gotta get her to Yost to see the difference.  Have fun!

points, just lookin for points...

Gotta get to 100 so I can start a dumb thread and get Bolivia'd.

seconded

It was my first year at UM.  I took the bus from north campus, then walked through rain, which had turned to sleet by the time I got to Hoover.  Sideways, needle-like sleet.  Temp kept dropping and it turned to snow.  So I was first wet, then freezing.  I left at halftime, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.  It's not like the product on the field was a beautiful thing.

Happy bday to another Friday the 13th-er

As a fellow owner of a Friday the 13th birthday (I'm April), happy birthday!

Born on Fri the 13th

My vote is that you have good luck.  I was born on Friday the 13th, so I'd like to think that you and my daughter inherited the good luck from your father and me (respectively, of course).  I extend my anti-bad luck to things such as black cats and walking under ladders.

woo hoo!

Pity points please?  I have no intention of starting threads, I just want points!

Gallon coming open

I think Gallon was going to come open, Gardner just had to get rid of it a second too soon.  If you kick and go to OT, then Hyde>gimpy Gardner, so it was a great call.  I love that Hoke makes those calls.  Nothing to be ashamed of today.

Grandpa's hair

Borges coming back to life in the last frame scared Glenn's hair from gray to white!

Is somebody actually going to tally all of this information up?

Funny...

that as a UM alum and Portage (next to Kazoo) resident, I love the atmosphere at Yost and at Lawson, and I've never considered the atmosphere/students to be much different between two.  Yost is a much nicer building, but the low metal roof and smaller size of Lawson makes it as loud (or louder) than Yost.  I think the Lunatics are great.  I was at the UM-WMU playoff games last season, and when the Lunatics were all over the UM fans it was deserved, since the UM fans right in front of me were being antagonistic, which I've never approved of when you're on the road.

One point about recruiting: At WMU, hockey is quickly becoming the #1 sport, so I think some players may be attracted to the thought of being BMOC at WMU, vs. being an athlete in the #3 sport at UM or MSU.  Just a thought.

Fleck should bring...

plenty of energy to the stadium and the team, which I expect is good for maybe 0.5 wins a year.  Unfortunately, too many people (myself included) are primarily UM or MSU fans who will stay home to watch on TV rather than go to Waldo at the same time.  The team and the town does do a good job with the MAC mid-week night games, though.

Hockey's a lot of fun here, too, and worth coming to for a change of pace.  Not the same tradition as Yost, but plenty loud.  CC, DU, Duluth and North Dakota all coming to town - looking forward to season tix arriving.

4/10 but...

I'm calling BS on #3.  The Cubs never have two on and none out.  Oh wait, it ends in a triple play.  Order restored.  Full disclosure: I'm a Cubs fan, and yes, we have a healthy sense of gallows humor.

Breweries?

I grew up in St. Louis, went to UMR, then moved to the east coast before moving to west Michigan.  At Rolla, kids from Kansas City and outlying areas called it pop and kids from St. Louis called it soda.

My only thought is that the use of soda in STL and Milwaukee, surrounded by pop territory, is that it has something to do with the beer industries in each city, notably AB and Miller.  It's the only reason I can think of.

74polSKA, send me an email to sbooton13 at gmail dot com.  I'd like to hear about your time at UMR.

thanks, and

Great job again.  Please keep it up.  One suggestion: is it worth adding the year we play each team, or break them into groups based on that year, since the ND, Appy State and NTM recruits don't matter as much since we'll only see them if they play as true freshmen?  Obviously we can all look it up if we haven't memorized future schedules (sorry, I haven't), so it's just a suggestion.

Yep, same situation...

I was tied for 1st after the first weekend, only leader with Florida winning it all, and couldn't be more happy to have the bracket blown up.  Go Blue!  Gotta win it all now!

nice weekend

Kansas comback Friday, men's swimming national champs Saturday, Florida demolition Sunday.  Gotta start a website "EWSBEW" - Every Weekend Should Be Easter Weekend.

great celebration!

Hilarious to see coaches belly-flopping and awesome to see a water-treading Victors (with the trophy)!  Go Blue!

MUPPETS PLEASE!

Brian/Seth/Ace/somebody, we needz moar muppets!

my maths

tells me that we can clinch in the 200 fly - can someone confirm?

Ah,

I think you've got me there.  That explains why collegeswimming.com is showing an "N" next to UM's time, presumably for NCAA record, and an "A" next to Cal, presumably for an American record.  Good catch.

new AR too, right?

This is also a new American record also, correct?  If collegeswimming.com's blog is correct...

buy tickets!

Lawson was just over half full last night, plenty of room left for UM fans to come see a sweep!  I'll be in section 20, and to repeat what Rob F said, we have a chance to turn this into a neutral site game.

crap crap

3-1 now, get it back Blue!

We back on!

We back on, we still on, we on.  Wear it with pride, Blue!

weekend plans...

1. WMU-ND (YTND) hockey Sat night (senior night).

2. Not for a few years (aging sucks)

3. Yes, and it's fun to have conversations that include "not that..." and "cool story, bro" and the other person knows exactly where it came from.  The guy in the cubicle across from me reads MGoBlog at lunch just as I do, so I can say "did you see..." and he'll answer yes before I even finished.  The MGoBlog universe is better than the real universe, and MGoBloggers are more fun to be around than non-MGoBloggers.  But we all knew that already.

4. No variant, please.  Just plain ol' grilled cheese.

Buffalo Bill

First thing that popped into my twisted mind after reading this post: "It puts the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again."

Lawson's not Yost, but far from bad

I go to about 7 games a year at Lawson and 2 or 3 at Yost.  I think people are thinking of the Lawson from a few years back.  It doesn't have the history or the soul of Yost, and never will.  It doesn't have the amenities like a cool (or even semi-cool) scoreboard, but the Lunatics are awesome, and with a low, metal roof it gets as loud as Yost.  Most of the Lunatics' cheers are copied from Yost or everywhere else in college hockey, but chanting "sausage fest" for the opposing team having two guys in the penalty box is Yost-worthy.

Air Force game

Section 24, Row 40, right on the 40 yard line.  Two seats at $65 apiece on stubhub purchased the night before and printed at home.  Great deal for the seats, and stubhubwas very easy.  I'm sure I could've had seats for $25 each if I bought them outside the stadium, but these seats were worth the price.

How does #9 in Michigan

translate nationally?  I assume most talent comes from the sunshiny states.  Brooks wrote a great primer on lacrosse recruiting - I think we'd all appreciate it if someone has the knowledge/time/inclination to do the same for baseball.

Great idea

As always, genius from the Mathlete.  As a native Missourian, the best part is seeing Kansas in level 2.  A minor, picky point: Big 12 level 6 has Missouri A&T which should be Missouri S&T.

Can't have an all-CCHA Frozen Four

It seems like each year it's possible to have an all-WCHA Frozen Four, but with 5 CCHA teams, they couldn't arrange for the all-CCHA possibility.  Bracket integrity, attendance, yeah yeah, but still...

Has TV...

... been announced?
