Agreed. Gallon had more receptions, yards and touchdowns both total and on a per game basis. Gallon also had more yards per catch and a longer longest reception than Abbrederis. I thought this last week sealed 1st team for Gallon.

I thought this last week sealed Gallon as a first teamer. He beat Abbrederis in literally every categorey: receptions, yards, touchdowns per game and total. Gallon also had a higher yards per reception average and a longer longest reception.

I thought this last week sealed Gallon as a first teamer. I don't think Abbrederis beat him in any receiving category. Gallon had more receptions, yards and touchdowns per game and total. He also had a higher yards per catch than Abbrederis and a longer longest reception than Abbrederis.

This is definitely an issue of perspective. I am from central Ohio and my entire family is Ohio fans. A successful Ohio is far more annoying to me than a successful MSU. I do sympathize that it may be just the opposite for those living in Michigan. If it makes you fell any better MSU is not taken very seriously around here (meaning either my original home around Columbus or where I currently am, in Cleveland).

Yeah, a lot of kids (both athletes and non-athletes) say or think they are interested in engineering and then end up never doing it. Anytime I hear an athlete claim interest in engineering or pre-med I take a wait and see approach before heaping praise on them for their "focus on academics."

Kind of ironic how the author claims OSU fans are so dumb when he can't even spell barbell right. Overall a rather juvenile, contrived piece. Half of it could be arbitrarily said about some fans in any fan base. He does get a few things right though, for instance how Urban was a cheater in the eyes of OSU fans while at Florida, but is a saint now.

I can't tell if this is supposed to be a joke. In the very sentence you praise Hand's apparent valuation of education you make a grammatical error using the objective case of the pronoun instead of the nominative. Regardless, I agree that guys actually valuing education in college ball is rare. However, I don't think it is rare for kids to say that they value education and then do nothing to back it up. Only time will tell whether Da'Shawn is serious or not.
|10 weeks 1 day ago||Actually they do get a||
Actually they do get a stipend for living expenses. Very few choose to take out injury insurance and none of them are forced to do so. Players like Lewan have every oportunity to go pro after 3 years but he chose to come back and pay for the insurance policy. No big bad NCAA or NFL forced him to do that. If you want to remove age/years since HS requirements from NBA and NFL drafts, that would be one fair approach. A professional minor league system would also be a fair option.

Are the non-revenue generating sports' athletes going to get paid their net value to the university too (ie they would have to pay to play)? If you are going to pay revenue generating sports' athletes, and still keep your other sports you will have non-athletes paying into a general university fund that will also be used to pay athletes (which I guess already sort of happens at the majority of colleges where the athletics department loses money).

Is Gallon a lock for Big Ten Offensive player of the week? There were a couple other quarterbacks (Gardner included) who put up some big numbers, but not against this level of competition.

To be fair, Wisconsin has been dominant as well. Granted they haven't played ND, but they also haven't given up a single point in 2 games while scoring at least 45 in each.
|13 weeks 3 days ago||That whooshing sound you just||
That whooshing sound you just heard was that comment going right over my head. But it more enlightening news it did prompt me to quickly check Michigan's interception history as listed on mgoblue.com. I was only able to find 2 guys in the 2000's who had more than 3 interceptions in a season: Warren had 4 in 2009 and Hall had 4 in 2005. That was actually surprisingly low to me. Hopefully this is an area we will see improvement in with an improved pass rush (hopefully).
|13 weeks 3 days ago||I think he means 4-6 picks||
I think he means 4-6 picks for Wilson on the year, not just in the ND game. That is perhaps an optimistic number given it has been a long time since any Michigan DB has gotten more than 3 picks in a season, but not out of the question.

Dymonte Thomas isn't a blue chip stud? I realize he is at nickel now, but with T. Gordon and Avery leaving after this year Thomas has to be a leading candidate to start opposite Wilson next year at S.

ESPN is more positive on Michigan, but not nearly that positive. Michigan still only has 1 top 50 player on ESPN and 3 top 100 players. Michigan has a lot more players in the 101-150 range (6 of them).

I think Wheatley is actually 140.
Also of note, Mike Weber is 239.
|16 weeks 5 days ago||OK, I see Space Coyote||
OK, I see Space Coyote responded to the SDE/3DT question while I was typing. Do we know why the article assigned Strobel to SDE and Wormley to 3DT though? It almost sounds as if it is based on observation.
|16 weeks 5 days ago||I see you mentioned that||
I see you mentioned that Morgan didn't practice. Do you know if Black practiced? I agree Morgan seems too good to be passed up on the depth chart (although I don't disagree that Bolden should still see lots of time as well), but it doesn't seem inconceivable that Black could be passed up. Also, is the comment on Strobel's and Wormley's positions due to observation or supposition? Wormley is a lot bigger (well, heavier) so I just assume he would be inside with Strobel on the outside.
|16 weeks 5 days ago||I wouldn't say they have||
I wouldn't say they have recruited a lot of corners fitting Countess' profile. Stribling and Dawson are both 6'2 whereas Countess is 5'10. While Douglas is 5'10 he is a low 4*/borderline 3* whereas Countess was a consensus 4*, Army AA ranked in the 100's. Lewis is really the only one fitting that description (actually Lewis was ranked top 100 by several services). If you go back to last year to Richardson, he had a pretty similar profile (Under Armour AA, consensus 4*, ranked mostly in the 100's) albeit he was an inch shorter at 5'9. I have to imagine Lewis is competing with Richardson for the backup field corner position. The key difference this year though, is we don't have to rely on a true freshman stepping up. We actually have 2 returning starters (granted 1 missed a year, but it sounds like that hasn't hurt him) at CB and both seem to be at least average to well above average.

I tend to consider myself a realist, but wow! 7 losses is unfathomable, even in my mind. ND and OSU are the only highly probably losses on the schedule.
|18 weeks 4 days ago||That would be awesome. If||
That would be awesome. If we're going with pairs of commits, Weber and Alabi have to be a reasonable choice too.
Edit: OK, I see that it is a 2014 kid, so I'll change my guess to McDowell now.
|19 weeks 1 day ago||I don't think it is a red||
I don't think it is a red flag at all. Why do athletes have to pick a college so much earlier than everyone else? Aren't they allowed to be a little closer to normal and pick during their senior year? I would rather have a kid wait and make up his mind for sure as opposed to go back on his word, affecting the coaches' recruiting strategy and other kids' options.
I'm not very optimistic on Fournette yet. He has yet to visit campus. I would love to get him, but realistically, we are looking at pursuing two great targets, Harris and Weber, hard for 2015.
In the same respect that Fournette not having committed to a southern school yet shouldn't be interpreted strongly against those schools, I don't think the fact that McDowell and Westphal haven't committed to Michigan yet shouldn't deter our hopes for them. While no one is claiming they or anyone else are surefire bets for Michigan (this is a prediction thread after all), Michigan has to be considered the tenative favorites for these two.
|19 weeks 1 day ago||I have to agree with this||
I have to agree with this list the most. I also think there is a real possibility that Pallante gets the grey shirt removed and moved up to this class like Jeremy Clark a couple classes before. There is the one obvious difference that DL will be more crowded in the 2014 class than safety was in Clark's class though (Wilson and Gant were the others and Gant ended up moving to SAM recently I believe), so it would probably take us missing out on either Hand or McDowell for that to actually take place. I certainly hope we don't miss out on either of them, but we don't really have any other DL that we are pursuing all that hard.

I'm not so sure about the GPA. You see a lot of these high school athletes with good GPAs due to low standards (or even 5 point scales), then they have standardized test scores well below average. Rivals will often post standardized test scores if the kids make them known. Lets wait for that before proclaiming academic excellence.
|22 weeks 3 days ago||I think Mike Hart remained a||
I think Mike Hart remained a 3* RB to the major recruiting sites (Rivals and Scout). ESPN was the lone outlier that had him a top 100 overall prospect at cb, but they didn't give out star ratings back then. I don't think he actually got a bump by committing to Michigan. I actually don't think many players get bumps by committing to Michigan. They might get evaluated if they previously were not and therefore might get their first actual rating, but I don't remember many cases of a prospect getting a bump simply from committing to Michigan.

Although signing day 2014 is pretty far off, and none of these guys are committed yet, it is not that far fetched to think that our receiving corps could include WRs Drake Harris and Corey Holmes and TE Daniel Helm. I'm sure we can come up with some terrible/great Triple H puns here.

True. But to be fair, you probably wouldn't see that headline on ESPN for an athlete at any school either.

Does anyone else have a hard time putting the Carr era and RR experiment in the same category? One of those resulted in a national championship and perennial bowl game appearances and winning records... the other one, not so much.
