To say Harbaugh is perhaps the best coach in football is an to put it mildly. What he has done with this team is exactly what we hoped for.
Next year will be even better. Look at the development of these players! We were worried about not having great receivers, but they were developed to their potential. We were worried about the QB position, yet look what has happened with Jake.
The O-line is better by leaps and bounds. The defensive backfield is better, and it's not just Peppers.
Michigan has recruited well in past years, and Harbaugh knows how to develop players, inspire them to harder work, and is a very fine in-game coach.
I'm not worried about the future of this team any more. Michigan will end this season on the ascendancy, and Harbaugh will not let things go backwards. The future looks really great!

It was a douchey thing for Elliott to say. At the same time, we sometimes talk about player's rights on this forum, and those rights certainly include freedom of speech. I don't see how a university can punish a player for speaking his mind.
That said, there are a lot of things a coach can do to regain the control of his locker room, and no doubt Urbs knows them, and has taken whatever action he needs to take. He's been around the block too many times to let a situation fester.
There's a difference between punishment and things coaches do with players who screw up in front of the media.

Indiana, Riutgers, Maryland and Illinois are the closest PSU have to quality wins.
It'll be a tough game, sure. But Michigan will prevail.

For some reason I thought Harbaugh was interviewing for the Maryland job. I heard it's his dream job of all time; could this be somehow untrue?

I love that Harbaugh's not afraid to praise his players when they actually do well, and doesn't feel he has to downplay the success they're having or the hard work they've put in.
Anecdotes notwithstanding, it's not about him, and it's obviously not an act. He likes coaching this team. I think he's having a great time.

It's very difficult to strike a balance between protecting the public from unscrupulous scams, and overprotecting the public from their own stupidity and avarice.
It'll be interesting to see how this works out, considering the investment of some wealthy folks and leagues. Big time financial backing always seems to affect the perceived legitimacy of things like this.

MSU has been playing wirh fire in several of their games, and have squeaked by. They were ahead and didn't close out this game. They can blame it on the refs, but they didn't control the game at the end, and that's on them.

One year at Michigania (M alumni camp) I became friendly with Jim Hermann, when he was our defensive coordinator during Carr's best years, and we were talking about the difficulty of Big Ten games.
I made the mistake of saying that games against teams like Indiana were probably gimmes, as we were blowing them out year after year. He became very adamant, and said, "You have no idea how difficult it is to prepare and to consistently win against Big Ten teams, any Big Ten teams. We have to work really hard for every single game."
He told me about thd difficulty of preparing for a different team each week, the overall talent level in the Big Ten, keeping the players engaged, etc. He was very serious, and I believed him.
I do think Harbaugh knows that, because he's been there as a player and a coach. He'll have our guys prepared to win games they should win. But there still aren't any gimmes.

I admire the dream, but I don't think there's a realistic chance that a two loss team makes the playoffs this year.
|3 weeks 12 hours ago||They beat us, and it wasn't||
They beat us, and it wasn't any more a fluke than a last minute interception would have been a fluke. Their end-of-game defense put them in a position to have a last shot at winning, and they took advantage of our team's football error.
Hey, I'm glad they lost, because it gives us a shot at the division, but let's not get carried away with predictions about the future.
They're good, they'll be good for a while until Dantonio retires or leaves, and we need to be great to consistently beat them. So far, that hasn't happened.

I feel the very same way!
Harbaugh was obviously motivated by them as a player, and wants his team to have the same motivation. It ain't broke. Don't fix it.

I think a few factors were in play. First, Minnesota played inspired football, with great effort, and had some incredible luck with interceptions that never meterialized, and their receivers and QB played out of their heads.
Second, I think our guys may have bought into the predictions for the game, and thought that all they had to do to win was show up. That only inspired the Minnesota team to greater effort.
The important thing is that they are learning how to win tight games on the road and play to the end. That's something that Hoke and RR's teams rarely did.
Even if the team goes 9-3 this year, they're meeting many fans' most optimistic expectations, and there's still a chance for 10-2.
But I did almost have a heart attack during the game.

It's true that there needs to be more emphasis on safety, and particularly, getting the high school players proper fitting, new equipment.
My only perspective on this is that there are well over 100 of bicycling deaths each year, and 20% of them are children.
I think we tend to point a finger at football, and forget other sports that can be dangerous.
One of my daughter's friends died skateboarding a few years ago, and he was wearing a helmet and other safety equipment. He fell on concrete and I believe hit his head on a step or a curb.
59 people died skiiing in Colorado alone in the past few years.

We're improving faster than I thought we would, and I'll admit that I didn't have high expectations for this season any more than the media did. But seeing Harbaugh get substantially better performance out of the players, who are now starting to look like the type of players we thought they were when they were recruited, is truly encouraging.
Then too, we've seen early-season fool's gold in past years, so I'm taking a conservative view until we see how the B1G season progresses.
However I do think we'll beat teams like Minnesota and Northwestern. State and OSU? Competitive games that should be a lot of fun to watch. I wouldn't be shocked to see the team pull one out.

Maybe I'm still shellshocked from those early season RichRod rankings that always collapsed, but I really think it's too early in the season for rankings to matter.
Example: Bronco Mendenhall saying Michigan's the best team his team has played, and that includes highly ranked UCLA.
We don't know if he's right or if that's just talk after having been clobbered.

One of my favorite things about this presser is that Harbaugh seems to be really enjoying these games, the team, working with this staff, and his role as head coach at Michigan.
"I'm starting to know our team and I'm liking what I'm knowing."
Kind of says it all. I'm liking it, too!
