Nice post, OP.

Do you have data to support this assertion?

"... rebounding is one of the areas where transferring up in competition is very hard."

It's not that I'd expect someone's rebounding numbers to improve when leveling up, but I've read that rebounding generally is something that translates well with a step up in competition.

Fair enough, but here? I can't recall seeing many negative opinions of Greek life expressed on MGoBlog. Now, bring up firearm safety and Eddie will come out of the woodwork. :)

jv02, 4/12, 11:15 A.M.:

Sure we were all eager to move past the CS thing, but you have to admit the occurrence of the whole scenario is disturbing and bizarre.  Is Schembechler Hall fertile ground for more shenanigans or has it been sufficiently reformed.  If so, how?

Sure, I'm cherry picking, and that was the juiciest cherry.

"lol one spring game with…

"lol one spring game with split squad, where you aren't going up against a first team unit is not a determining factor for me."

Why, then, did you elevate Chesson out of nowhere at the WR spot?

Also, I like Cabana and I know he's had injury issues, but he's done almost nothing on the field yet, and you have him ranked pretty high at multiple spots.

"... there’s inevitably…

"... there’s inevitably going to be negative comments on this thread about Dusty going to visit frats ..."

Genuinely curious (and maybe naive): Why would you expect that?

If I were Dusty, the Maize Rage would (of course) be my first stop. After that, if I'm targeting students? Frats, of course. Their members are probably more likely to be sports fans than the average student and also more likely to be "joiners," so your investment may yield large flocks.

I'd definitely like to see…

I'd definitely like to see those types of WRs and some jump balls, sure.

But, they had Nico Collins and didn't bother with that type of play, so I'm thinking it was cultural. I know this site complained about a lack of jump balls.

Okie State isn't a school I…

Okie State isn't a school I'd expect to see at the top of that ranking, but I just looked and, sure enough, they're #1. Nearby are a bunch of schools (Stanford and UCLA included) that culturally make a little more sense. I'd like to know the history at OSU (NTOSU).

UM still needs a bigger jump…

UM still needs a bigger jump-ball receiver and probably 2 at that.

When did Michigan last throw jump balls to its receivers on a regular basis?

You gotta admit that on this…

You gotta admit that on this board the life cycle of a thread is short.

Just wait. It's gonna get worse in about a month. We'll see the same basic post for approximately (no, precisely) 100 days. On most days it will garner a handful of comments and displace more useful content.

"It has to be the big money…

"It has to be the big money."

Ding, ding, ding!

They're like Kentucky in basketball. It's crazy.

That wouldn't surprise me at all. Think of how weird (and improbable for sure) it would be if they played him only in the "tough" games (which, hopefully, will be a short list) to preserve his RS and ran the 9-1-1 with Orji for the others.

Prediction: If [1] the…

Prediction: If [1] the communication is encrypted, OSU will spend $ and figure out how to decrypt it. Michigan will eventually -- and unwittingly -- get on that train through an overzealous staffer. Because of sloppy processes, OSU will find out and try to kneecap Michigan.

[1] I haven't looked into the technical details at all.

I have no idea what's going on, but here are two ideas:

  • Pippen really hit it off with May and wants to be part of the "revival." That would make him enthusiastic about claiming a spot.
  • Players already in college have to wait for due diligence (maybe more sophisticated than it was in the Shannon / Love days) to run its course.

Sensationalism aside, I get…

Sensationalism aside, I get it to a small degree. J.J. is young and doesn't have a ton of "reps" at this point. He's probably still pretty far from his ceiling. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a rough adjustment to the NFL. He's resilient, though, and I'm not concerned about him getting "scarred." I think he'll eventually succeed. Possibly very soon. We'll see.

I can remember Giudice's…

I can remember Giudice's uninspiring recruiting profile, and he's barely played, but he is a 4th-year interior lineman, so it's not surprising that he's ahead of a high-ceiling 2nd-year guy who'll need some time to reach his potential ... right? I hope.

Ouch.

One day you're an "award winning" (https://awfulannouncing.com/2015/gregg-doyel-wins-first-place-in-apse-column-writing.html) sports journalist and the next day you're a creep. You know it's bad when the NY Post and Dave Portnoy are flaming you (https://nypost.com/2024/04/18/sports/columnist-gregg-doyel-crossed-the-line-with-caitlin-clark/). He might have to go write for the edge of the internet (NTE).

I suppose sports journalists will cross the line more often now that they've been almost completely reduced to circus animals.

OSU scored, remember. The FG…

One of the great all-time Michigan plays for sure, but remember that OSU scored. The FG was good. So, 31-23 instead of 31-27 (or, maybe, 31-28 if Ryan Day suddenly grew a set and ran the ball in a short-yardage situation and had success). Does Michigan clench up if they're up only three instead of eight? I don't think so. Not that team.

Barely safe for work. :)

I agree with most of what you wrote, but I don't recall any missed chip shot field goals in the Rose Bowl. IIRC, Turner's only miss was from 49 yards.

Thanks for that.

I think that's unfair to the C-levels. There's a good example in UM sports history. Compare these two football players from the early '70s: David Brandon and Jim Hackett. Similarly accomplished, right? I can certainly imagine Brandon doing something insecure, but not Hackett.

+1 informative for the first part.

For the second part, what do you mean by "They didn’t bring in anyone that resonate with kids in the Metro Detroit area?" Were you looking for someone with Metro Detroit ties? Is there a reason the staff won't be able develop relationships with SE Michigan HS coaches?

Maybe wait until the '25 class is in the books?

Maizen spoke the truth sometimes, too, back in the day. (Get it?)

Graham (https://247sports.com/player/alex-graham-46129900/) has an appealing profile, but the OP sounds like a concern troll.

It would be easy to fill the message board with posts about recruits that aren't "trending" to Michigan (and the OP thinks Michigan has to get). My favorites are the ones where UM is way down the favorites lists but still manages to get a hat on the table. Don't worry -- someone here will publicly gnash their teeth.

OP: How did you read that and conclude that "we were in serious running for Kobe?" Here's what I saw (emphasis mine):

With his standout performance in high school, it was hardly surprising that several colleges took an interest in Bean. That list included Duke, Michigan, North Carolina, and Villanova.

Where's the part where Kobe was interested in Michigan?

"... espn love for BC …

"... espn love for BC ..."

This is a reminder to me that I've always had a difficult time cheering for teams that are darlings of East Coast media (Red Sox, Yankees, Eagles, etc.).

If you're old enough to remember Seton Hall in '89, the whole East Coast was ready to be "Randy" in South Park. Michigan spoiled the party.

There are two months until then. Where exactly would you set the odds of that ("got nothing") happening?

Congrats, OP. Unless you're really ill, losing weight is generally not easy.

To the main question, if you're not picky, I'd add places like T.J. Maxx and Marshalls to the list. Your odds wouldn't be great, but I've seen UM and MSU gear in those places over the years.

Some of RichRod's guys:Greg…

Some of RichRod's guys:

  • Greg Frey bounced back to Michigan under Harbaugh for a short time.
  • Scott Shafer was the head coach at Syracuse.
  • Jay Hopson was the head coach at Southern Miss for a few years. (Not sure if that counts as high-level.)
  • Tony Gibson is the DC at NC State.
  • Rod Smith had similar jobs at other D1 schools.
  • Fred Jackson needs no introduction.

As far as RichRod and Michigan are concerned, I think this information is mostly beside the point. I don't think he ever would have been successful at Michigan.

I have my own question: How much would it cost to tilt all of the Michigan Stadium rows up at least ten degrees to give everyone better sight lines?
