- Strength of Schedule: The other two non-conference games that year are Air Force and Cincinnati. If we scheduled a bodybag game at the Big House then people would complain about lacking strength of schedule, especially with the new playoff system.
- Appeal to fans: Everyone knows how tough it was to get a ticket in 2012. Dave Brandon is surely taking that into account. Part of our fanbase that can't easily get to games regularly will be able to go, and they will go.
- It's not just about us fans: IIRC the players were pumped to play in Dallas before.
- In a tough spot: With Arkansas on the schedule the next two years, other home and homes scheduled in farther out years, he needed to find a single game to fill that spot. Not a home and home.
- A seat for all games
- The same seat for all games (except for students, but their tickets are cheaper)
- Wow experiences (I say in jest, but the MMB is not insignificant)
- The entitlement to renew for the following year
- A discount off the face value price
- Early access to buy single game tickets
- Preferential access to buy road game tickets
- Preferential access to buy bowl game tickets
- Preferential access to buy tickets for other season-ticket sports
- Ability to specify where you want to sit in the stadium (if you pay the applicable PSD). I've changed my seat several times, all you have to do is ask politely.
- Perhaps the biggest thing for me is avoiding the stress and time of having to hunt for single game tickets (more of a derived benefit than the above)

Can anyone explain the "revenue has not kept pace at nearly the same rate" comment? I thought Nike gave Michigan all of the money and I also thought that the demand for tickets spiked the day the Harbaugh hire was announced nearly two years ago.
Given the Nike contract, Harbaugh hire and what we've heard about the upcoming TV deal it's hard to imagine a scenario where revenue growth would ever be better than it is right now....? Right???

Every time I listen to Shawn Beligian I feel like he insults my intelligence: "You know that right?" "I shouldn't have to tell you ..." "Stop, just stop". Regardless of the topic or point of view, this is how he speaks every day. Passive aggressive. Such a polar opposite from someone like Sam Webb who is energetic, realistic, articulate, professional, etc. Am I being too harsh on him or have others noticed this too?

It's not a true TETRAFECTA but it's as close as you can get to the real thing. Here's to November 26th!!
Michigan wins and moves to 7-0
OSU ... loses to a PSU team that was embarassed by Michigan
ND ... doesn't win (but lost to teams from four different conferences so far this season!)
Sparty ... well you know
To compensate for the absence of a ND loss, can I offer you a Cubs Pennant? Or an unbeaten WMU?

I was wondering when you would starting putting content on YouTube! Unless it's there and I've missed it?

I am totally bummed about this and yes this is one of the main reasons I invested in a Lifetime membership. I am a season ticket holder and have always used this program to get additional tickets to the home games that other friends and family wanted to attend. I can't imagine there's a benefit the AA provides that is/was used more consistently and by more people than the Football Saturdays program. How many people could possibly be using the job board or the True Blue travel program each and every year?
Also I cannot believe he said the demand for tickets has declined. First off, isn't there a waitlist again now? Demand is not declining for Michigan Football. Second, for all but the garbage can games, I cannot imagine StubHub prices will ever beat Face Value as long as Jimmy is at the helm.
His point about exclusivity probably means they are seeing a lot of these tickets resold on StubHub. Probably true, however, IMO not a reason to cancel the program. Every ticket in the stadium could potentially be sold on StubHub! No different for the AAUM tickets, it's just a fact of life. And by the way, the Athletic Department ENDORSES THE USE OF STUBHUB!! Unless they ended that relationship and I missed it.
So to me the justifications given for canceling are total horseshit.

And 8 years since he first took over and didn't get Casteel. Something happening today gives no indication of how things COULD HAVE happened 8 years ago.

This is a much better holistic tribute to Spike and his value to the team. Honestly I thought Brian was mailing it in (something Spike would never do) by just copying and pasting a single game column from last year. Thanks for this. There's too much tape out there of Spike being Spike to not create this post.
|1 year 29 weeks ago||ANSWER||
We were in the same situation last season. Go to the crisler ticket booth a couple hours before the game, hand them your normal tickets, they will hand you tickets in ADA seating in your same section. So for us, this meant sitting in a folding chair at the top of section 20 with all the space in the world, and easy access to bathrooms.
|2 years 5 weeks ago||Kind of ironic?||
You didn't care enough to do anything about this "problem" until it threatened your revenue. Enacting change in the name of Protecting and Maximizing The Dollar is typically criticized around here. That said, this change is for the better clearly
|2 years 5 weeks ago||You are missing the point||
This interview is not your opportunity to make someone listen to you talk, as you put it. The applicants are not interviewing for something that you have the power to give them. You don't make the final admission decision, you don't define the criteria that is used to evaluate the applicants. You play one specific role in the process and the manual is very clear about the types of things to ask and why. As great as the suggestions might be, I don't think crowd sourcing questions from the mgoboard is what the people who designed the alumni interview program had in mind. I've done several of the interviews myself and I've read their manual. In my opinion, your job is to ask the applicants how you can help them better understand Michigan by answering whatever questions they may have while representing Michigan well. You also need to uncover any significant things about the applicant that they feel weren't adequately conveyed in their application. A kid's college choice is not something to play around with. The kids should be asking more questions than you.

Did Beilien learn McGary would not be allowed to play in 14-15 before or after Horford announced his departure? If before, would Beilien tell Horford about McGary's situation?
|2 years 48 weeks ago||Horford question||
Has Horford landed anywhere? If not, is landing at Michigan an option for him?
Apologies for what I'm assuming is probably a stupid question.

I don't read the blog every day, but I do remember thinking to myself recently that's it's been a while since mgoblog continued its whiny complainy narrative about how terrible the athletic department is.

Refreshing to get you back in your wheelhouse
|3 years 11 weeks ago||Great post||
Thanks for a great post - this type of informative hard working content is what mgoblog should focus on more, in my opinion at least.
Bonus: we can use this post as evidence next time someone claims the Michigan tradition is lost in the eyes of recruits.

They literally had a question at the end where you could write about anything you wanted.
Do you expect they read your mind and craft a question specifically for you?
|3 years 14 weeks ago||Agreed||
That was my immediate reaction to the post. DB gets criticized for making a decision that will appeal to a subset of fans that don't normally get to go to games... then DB gets criticized by ... fans.
Last week he was unfavorably compared to Mark Hollis because Hollis (w.r.t. Rose Bowl tix) wasn't making decisions based soley on money...
Some people just can't be pleased.
|3 years 14 weeks ago||A few reasons...||
I agree with other posters. This may not be ideal (compared to a home and home with a high quality opponent), but given the circumstances this move is not bad. Some possible motivations:
|3 years 15 weeks ago||DB bashing per usual||
It would indeed be nice to have a band. However you could also view this move as a way to get as many fans into the game as possible, which you deemed favorable when mark Hollis did it with rose bowl tickets. I mean, we are so desperate to bash DB that we are actually using Mark Hollis as the poster boy? As in, mark Hollis, from "lol mark Hollis" fame? The guy that that gave Glenn Winston a vote of confidence and gave trey Burke unsolicited twitter advice? I will never think Hollis is a better option than Brandon. Deep down I bet you feel the same.
|3 years 15 weeks ago||It's a ploy||
Michigan, K-State, Duke and Texas A&M players arrive in Tempe and Atlanta only to find out they've been duped. Instead of playing football, they all must travel to Cheyenne to observe and judge the annual cattle air show, where the BW3 Flying Buffalos will compete against the Chick-Fil-A Parachuting Cows.
The players will later be bused to BW3 headquarters to play with the buttons that control all the sprinkler heads in stadiums hosting all the other bowl games.
|3 years 15 weeks ago||Playing is voluntary||
If at any time Devin Gardner does not like his arrangement with the university, he can end it. My guess is that he won't do that, because he perceives value in being a student and an athlete. He probably assumes an investment of his time now will pay off later! Same reason anyone pursues higher education, or in his case perhaps college football, right? Without the UM providing a platform, he does not become a million dollar man.
|3 years 17 weeks ago||You buy the pizza when it's||
You buy the pizza when it's good, you don't buy it when it's bad. You are fickle. That's what it means. If you bought the pizza when it was bad, you would not be fickle, you would be constantly loyal no matter what.
He's not saying there's anything wrong with your tastebuds. In fact, he has said everyone agrees the pizza sucks.
|3 years 17 weeks ago||Ways the the AD reciprocates loyalty||
If you buy season tickets, you are entitled to:
What am I missing here, regarding Loyalty? You're complaining about "access"? Why do you deserve access to watch the team practice??
|3 years 17 weeks ago||Good examples||
The old versions of the posters were free and were posted everywhere, but I'm guessing they were much cheaper to produce. I think they had ads on them too right? So maybe they were free (for the AD) to produce. The 3-D posters are cool and they don't have ads ... that's why they are $5.
The stadium open door policy was nice while it lasted, but I understand discontinuing this perk due to the new structures they built. There is more at risk now, if they were to just let people in and run the steps and explore: Break-ins, vandalism, overall security of new spaces. Plus the $10 tour allows you to see the luxury boxes that you can't even get access to on gameday.
I see your point here. I also understand the AD point of view, the $5 posters and the $10 tours.
|3 years 17 weeks ago||Like anything in life, you||
Like anything in life, you get out of it what you put into it. I enjoy the stadium experience. I don't have a problem paying money for things I like. Tickets and concessions have never been free, have they? Water is free at the Hydration Station. I'm wondering what it is that used to be free, which was bought up, then sold to me?
|3 years 19 weeks ago||Hmph.||
So what you're saying is, a current high school kid was aware of Michigan's history in football even though this blog's board would have you believe he is too young to remember last time Michigan was relevant.
How does that work?!?!
|3 years 21 weeks ago||Losing to OSU stings more||
Beating Sparty is more significant than say, beating illinois, but I would rather lose to Sparty than lose to OSU (obviously), ND or even Wisconsin.
